Vétiver Santal

I was dying to try Iris Pallida from this brand after The Perfume Guy recommended it highly. I also ordered several other samples from this unknown to me house. In the end, I was utterly unimpressed by Iris Pallia, however, Vetiver Santal turned out to be an unexpected love for me (I typically don't enjoy traditionally masculine associated profiles, and I am ambivalent towards vetiver). The fragrance appears very unassuming at the first glance, but there is something very mysteriously captivating about it. It truly does smell very natural. Traditionally masculine, however there is something lightly lactonic and creamy about it too. Lovely, calm , peaceful scent. Yes, very safe for pretty much any occasion.

This reminds me of Byredo's Gypsy Water. They're both very unique, complex, warm and aromatic. The woody scent is definitely strongest of all but it's not plain, boring woods. The spicy notes are very interesting and overall it is a good combination. Projection and longevity is good. One of my favorite and took me by surprise.

Very natural-smelling and refined, Vetiver Santal plays it extremely safe and has all the hallmarks of traditional French perfumery over it. The most prominent note is the clean, crisp, fresh vetiver. It opens with a blast of citrus which quickly fade, then the hazelnut aromas of vetiver and a creamy woody sandalwood with an earthy patchouli kick-in. Top Notes: Bergamot (Italy), Lemon, Petitgrain Heart Notes: Sandalwood (New Caledonia), Vetiver (Haiti), Cypress Base Notes: Patchouli (Indonesia), White Musks, Benzoin (Siam) Longevity is 4-6 hours maximum, sillage is within grabbing distance and stays close to the wearer. It is unisex but slightly masculine leaning in my opinion due to the woodiness and extremely versatile.

This one shines daytime spring and autumn. It has got a certain calming yet exciting vibe to it. The vetiver and bergamot are very nice and clean, and I like the blend where the bergamot brings the light, the sandalwood and vetiver bring the calm, and the patchouli brings a stroke of adventure. This is a scent that developed when I had been wearing it for a while. Much preferred to the chemical Ex Vetiver. I also like it better than Mr. Vetiver.

Opens with a gentle, not-too-sweet lemony spritz on a slightly green dry brush vetiver. This citrus quickly settles atop a creamy sandalwood and earthy patchouli. Slightly soapy, mostly foresty, very linear scent. It's a nice smell all in all, leaning masculine and mature, but the performance is pretty bad for me. 12hr+ as a skin scent but I'm lucky to get maybe 90 minutes of very soft projection out of it.

A soft, blooming vetiver-sandalwood opening, rich and aromatic. And the patchouli a little sickly when it first comes through. After 30 minutes the accord settles down to a lovely, warm burr that sits close to the skin. And you could really snuggle down in this and purr. I agree with Oudaddict it's a safe, conventional scent, skewed traditionally masculine. There's quality here and though it's not for me, I can see it worn at work or an evening event, quietly projecting solid character and good taste. It would smell magnificent sprayed in a gentleman's wardrobe.

Another surprising vetiver-based fragrance that belies the expectation of dry grass with a refreshing mix of citrus , resin and musk. (SMN's Vetiver does it better I have to say, especially in terms of dry down). Vetiver Santal's pleasures are short-lived, however: a case of hay today, gone tomorrow.
