Chapeau Bleu

Many of us know Paloma Picasso, daughter of Pablo, the jewelry designer with her own signature perfumes, but few know that her niece, Marina, also lent her name to a fragrance in Chapeau Bleu. Its bottle doubles as objet d'art, an homage to her uncle, based on his 1939 work "Tête de Femme au Chapeau Bleu à Ruban Rouge (Head of a Woman Blue Hat and Red Ribbon)." It's filled with a rather enchanting, dusky amber floral heavy on beta ionone, suggesting that of the boronia flower, and a dark violet-hued floral heart, seemingly dusted with black pepper. It feels like a mosaic of deep colors: burgundy, forest green, cerulean, and umber. It's played in a minor key, a glissando from one element to another, moving from tart-green and velvety to darker and more shadowy into its dry down—dominated by a tolu balsam and a sweetly resinous base. While its robust, none of it feels dense; rather, it's a sheer cloak that could wear well even on warmer days. It's fascinating to think that this is a distillation of the power-fruity-floral-ambers in the vein of Poison nine years prior, aerated and made more elusive in a 90s style.

I have anticipated if the juice is not as great as the hype flacon. I shouldn’t have bothered!! Chapeau Bleu is one of the best floral fragrances i ever smelled. I thought that the green notes and tolu balsam would lead into balsamic and grassy scents, but that’s not the case apparently. Chapeau Bleu is sweet since the beginning to the end. I immediately detect jasmine, ylang, and tuberose. Tolu balsam and green notes join later just to add nuance, not to take over the game. After a short while, it becomes richer and warmer. Caramel and amber didn’t make this a gourmand, nor civetta made this an animalic frag. It’s always a flower paradise, a rich and dynamic floral fragrance. The flacon is an art as many said. Lucky i got Chapeau Bleu and managed to secure two more as a lifetime spare. Love love love! Chapeau Bleu reminds me of these white floral classic: Ozbek Rifat, White Shoulders, Chloe Lagerfeld, and Mon Classique.

Wow. I've just received a vintage bottle of this. It's a very potent fragrance but no powder in mine. Rather it's peppery, kind of unisex. I love it. First spray is extremely sharp, even alcoholic but as it fades well that's something beautiful. Very very unique. I just went into a sephora a few days ago to smell the perfumes and to me all smell the same or at least along the same line. The old perfumes were so unique and you could keep it secret what you're wearing. Oh how I miss those discontinued scents... Update. This lasts for a good 10 hours and counting... Smells sooooo nice. Now I smell freshly cut grass in this. I can't help smelling myself:) I don't get any fruity lemony florals. On me it's sharp and peppery. Very earthy. Love love love.

Nice green floral aldehyde verging chypre but clean and pretty. Surprisingly good, not sure what I was expecting but it smells very romantic. UPDATE: A perfect choice on this HOT August day. Really brings out the juicy green notes. Breezy and interesting; theres intermittent hints of Lagerfeld Chloe, Arden Sunflowers and Halston Classic. I like to wear it when I want to channel an artistic, funky, feeling that still smells fresh and not ACTUALLY funky.

This is really lovely! On my skin the gorgeous osmanthus is what lingers on after the delectably fruity opening. There isn't much siilage, so my nose is pressing against my skin trying to inhale every molecule. I am so glad that I was lucky enough to snag a bottle of this very original perfume long after it was out of production. I usually keep my bottles boxed and out of the light, but I may have to display this one!

lots of sweet juicy florals but unlike any other big floral fragrance I've ever smelled; unique and utterly amazing; lots of osmanthus, boronia and tolu then some freesia and tuberose with musk and peach. Wow. The drydown has a sweet resinous quality like sap but also is a little peppery.

absolutely unique, amazing and beautiful perfume that I loved when it initially came out. Currently trying to hunt it down again, so if someone has the big bottle with original painted cap at home, would be interested to swap/buy.

At first try I didn’t like this: it was too strange and felt dated to me. I decided to get rid of it, but had no luck selling it, so I stashed it away. However, recently I was surprised to realize that I was missing this fragrance! I was on vacation and as soon as I got home I splashed myself. This perfume is perfect for a warm summer day. It is so unique and definitely not everyone’s cup of tea. But I love it and will treasure my mini. It is actually making me interested in trying more retro fragrances as they seem to possess much more personality than today’s women’s perfume.

The bottle... sure is something. I cannot make my mind up about it. Is it garish or outlandishly enticing? Probably both. As for the fragrance, I like it. It's green but sweetish and fresh. Reminds me of the drydown of post-2014 Ange Ou Demon Le Secret, actually, but less sweet and more tart/green. Not bad, I just feel it's a bit of a mismatch judging from the name and the bottle design.

I was hunting for new perfumes when I found this unique fragrance. It was the packaging that grabbed my attention, and I sprayed it on my wrist...very intriguing. It has the spicy note (I guess the tolu balsam) that really stands out...even spicier than Givenchy Xeryus Rouge which has pimento in it. However, it is now sitting among other perfumes in my closet. Like it much!

I've tested edp about 2 months.Haven't found any reviews.So is it extraordinary?Strange?Unique? I won't describe by notes,because only few are mentioned. This scent seems not colourful to me.I'd say two main colours-dark blue and dark green and a little bit brown,no warm details in wine as Pablo Picasso'"...woman in dark blue hat"has. It is sharp and strong from the very beginning.This is a story about young lady in dark blue.I imagine one day in spring,windy,cloudy,sky is grey,there is no sun.Young woman lands in the woods.She goes far to the thicket.Rain is falling and all in surroundings is soak.Her clothes and hair are wet,all around is dark green and brown,many ferns,a lot of them with very strong smell and smell with wet old wood too.Could say woody aquatic,not aromatic.But the woman don't stop,she knows where she's going.And maybe only at that moment is similar mood between famous grandfather's creation and perfume of his grand-daughter Marina. The scent is long lasting,but very sad and only in minor notes.

I'm afraid this scent did nothing for me at all. For me it was a very sweet chemical fragrance. I used it up as a room fragrance instead of wearing it. Wonderful bottle design, a keeper just for that.

Lost for words of gratitude towards flowers-in-the-springtime for gifting me this stunning bottle of even more stunning juice I wanted to have it for ages, not just that the bottle is fab, but because of story of Marina Picasso. I read her book, I feel her deep sadness and sincere heart, I realize how many hard times she had, being a granddaughter of Picasso, who, as many geniuses, had a heart of stone for his family. I know many people would find Marina's book controversial, but I believe her and I wanted her perfume Its one of those times, when you perfectly created the perfume in your head long before you actually smelled it. Of course, I knew the notes, but still its amazing, how its clicked straight away Tolu balsam is a leader here, which has similarity with Rochas Absolu in this way. Osmanthus, fruity by itself, even more blossoming from the peach, its sweet and eastern, deep resinous fragrance on me, I guess aldehydes and civet well hidden-smoothed behind the caramel and tuberose here, just like Marina, who wanted her sad life to be sweetened so badly. Strangely enough, all heart notes create a strong accord of dark grape...Picture of mysterious woman, who is standing on the balcony, surrounded by flowery bushes, at night, holding cluster of grapes in her hand, looking beyond the horizon Its also rather creamy-musky on the drydown. I could wear it anywhere and at any time, 5 from 5 from me

I never heard of this?!!! I know of Paloma, but Marina?! I went on a Fragrantica rabbit hole (similar to Wiki holes) where I was just clicking on perfumes that smelled like other perfumes. And I found this as it's compared to vintage Chloe. I'm still in a vintage 80s/90s kick, and a vintage bottle in it's box wasn't too pricey on ebay. I also bought Marina's book. Love both. Chapeau Bleu is def the 90s... that ROBUST balls to the wall perfume, where this painting has no WHITE SPACE. Pinky/peachy colored SWEET FLORAL perfume. While I think it's similar to the style of old Chloe, it's def closer to the sweeter Chloe Narcisse. (I also find CB to be in the same family as Tocade) Well made and blended, so many notes it just ends up perfumey. But it's good. I sold my Narcisse long before this 80s/90s kick I can't shake. So I'm glad to find this. And I devoured the book. LOVED it.

"bust of a woman " this is the title of PICASSOs work and really the product is reflects the original idea remarkable. i was bought it blindly due to the greatness of a bottle . i keep it from now on and find it it is a real gem .a keepsake ,a must have for any art lover . personally i love quite a few paintings from Picasso .but this one is an exception. the cap is a hand made -as the saying goes and th 50 ml verion is far better eye catching than the golden variation. the smell is good but this is the case when outness is more beautiful than the juics indoor. its a pity that marina picasso didn t do it any further collection. i know the art of picasso in t for everyone .its strictly for those who like some kind of stuff that is irregular and quirky.

A masterpiece! I am awe-stricken by the beautiful harmony the notes are striking in this fragrance! I purposely dabbed it on my wrist because this is the one telltale spot that 'eats up' any fragrance...Wow...This one stands up to that test! It starts out floral on me, then morphs into a light fruitiness...The drydown is magnificent -- peppery [even though there is no pepper], woodsy, and mossy... It's a bold & gorgeous fragrance...The energy the notes emit are much like the energy in the strokes of the paintbrush and in the boldness of color Marina's grandpa used in his famous paintings...Viva Picasso! Viva Chapeau Bleu!

Mine is a gold, limited and number version in the presentation box. I love having it, but I do occasionally steal a spray here and there. Surprisingly, it does not smell out dated at all, if perfume can actually smell outdated. The composition is a pure art and it matches the both bottle designs perfectly. I never had a chance to smell original Chloe, so I can not confirm, but there is a spice kick in the opening of CB, which soon dissipates and you are left with a lovely, feminine and artsy perfume on your skin. Longevity is about 3 hours for me and then it's gone for good.

These reviews on Chapeau Bleu range the gamut, but I suppose that speaks to its complexity. My skin draws out a musky base that is supported by fruit and floral notes. Once the bergamot and peach relax, I am left with a blanket of white flowers, picked and placed in a vase several days ago, most of the browned petals have fallen to the table and lie on their backs, awaiting their fate. The wood barely presents itself. Despite the metaphor, the trail seems synthetic. Admittedly, Chapeau Bleu is not a favorite of mine. It is still in my collection because of the bottle.

Beast from past I got vintages bottle lucky me. Osmanthus here is very dominant for me... And tolu balsam is perfect longevity is quite good... Great deal Caution: it may not safe for an office but For outdoor party i think this is gonna be perfect .. About bottle design this is so artful and beautiful

Bought 2 miniature bottles of 5 ml EDP Chapeau Bleu yesterday at a local perfume store. After years of searching, it feels great to wear this again. My little girl called it the "Transformers" perfume because of it's bottle. And she made me promise to give her the empty bottle once I finished it:)

i actully LOVE it..very unique..must admit its not for the faint hearted or one who like sweet, light and soft fragrances. applyed it 11 hours ago...still smelling it...wonderful.

oh my god a type of woody fragrance that really makes me like wood......literally.....and it's not good....but maybe it's just me.......

There is this gorgeous apple note in it and this dirtiness that reminds me a ton of Promise by Frederic Malle

I wish to try it....pretty bottle powder make me hungry to test it
