The Pink Bedroom

I went to Ministry of Scent today and asked for recommendations for two scent profiles: an experimental gourmand and something harsh and industrial that leans feminine rather than masculine. While gushing with the sales associate about the strawberry-rubber fever dream that is Toskovat's Age of Innocence, she beelines to the other end of the store for The Pink Bedroom. I had had this one on my test list, but had forgotten about it by the time I had eventually visited. She was gracious enough to show me a lovely array of scents that matched my requests, but The Pink Bedroom was the easy winner. Admittedly I'm a bit of a freak but this fragrance is all the things it sells itself as while still being extremely wearable. It's sticky, sweet, waxy, glossy, gummy, chewy, plastic, but gracefully tamed by a comfortingly familiar powdery iris and jammy rose. I do wish I could smell a stronger musk note on my skin, so this one might call for some layering experiments. I had an era in my life where every day I would eat one singular mini Laffy Taffy (my interpretation of "having a little treat" before it became a christened phenomenon). I can't say I have any distinct olfactory memories of what that smelled like but The Pink Bedroom is, at least spiriturally, what it would smell like to rip a strawberry Laffy Taffy out of plastic wrapping. My only complaint is that the sillage is pretty intimate on me. I have other oil-based perfumes with quite impressive projection, but perhaps coconut oil is not the best carrier for my skin chemistry. Don't care though, I'm so happy to have this in my life. Really testing the boundaries of nose blindness here but in the last seven hours I've had this on my skin, I've genuinely considered rolling this somewhere on my face so it can be closer to my nose...

Just received my rollerball in the mail and decided to slather it on my wrist while already testing the mechanics' garage that is The Lover's Tale by Francesca Bianchi. What a pair! The Pink Bedroom girly notes skate atop the oil slick that is The Lover's Tale. The doll head note blends seamlessly with the sweet gasoline, greasy black leather, smoky wood and motor oil, and cheap pink liquid soap from TLT, while the cutesy strawberry and pink rose accentuate the orris notes in each fragrance with hearts and stars. This combo is the fragrance equivalent of The Shangri-La's song "Leader of the Pack."

My BFF gave my this for my birthday a couple weeks ago and it is such a soft, sweet, and nostalgic smell. The lipstick notes are very forward and I love it! It's a very cute and flirtatious fragrance on the surface however every once in a while I will notice a somewhat old or dusty note that intruiges me. It honestly reminds me of my own pink bedroom full of dolls, makeup, and old furniture because I never clean it LOL It captures the story incredibly well and I can imagine the exact scene this is supposed to illustrate. It is unique but still very very wearable.

my childhood in a vial. plastic dolls mixed with strawberry lip smackers and the scented kid makeup palettes my mom would let me and my sister play with so we wouldn't ransack and destroy hers. this is a perfume that really makes me realize how much fragrance can paint a picture in ways i didn't even think were possible. while this probably won't be my most worn fragrance, i can't deny that this is a masterfully done work of art and Marissa Zappas truly hit the nail on the head when she created this. if she had zero fans i am no longer here and have passed on.

i love the concept and story behind it so much but it's just giving strawberry lipgloss with lipgloss level longevity and no matter how much i apply and re-apply i can barely smell it. she's my beautiful daughter and i'm not mad, i'm disappointed. edit: i'm so sorry!!! i take it all back!!!! i don't know what was wrong with my nose before but it wasn't you, it was me. longevity and sillage are totally average but you smell like a strawberry scented doll from the 60s and exactly as advertised. i love my daughter!!

i wanted to pick up more before stock ran out but i missed my chance. it starts off smelling pretty much exactly like a scented baby doll, like the head of one i had when i was little. smelling it brought back the exact image of the doll in my mind. as it progresses it smells more like a vintage lipstick and potpourri boudoir situation. it ends up very close to the skin, it makes me feel like a 1960s showgirl.

Beautiful sweet rose dolly fragrance. I also wish it was an EDP not just the rollerball, so I've discovered layering it with Osez-Moi! by Chantal Thomass works really nicely. I wore this combination to bed and could still smell it when I woke up. If you wear TPR alone, it's pretty light and sits close to the skin.

Smells like: painting my nails to avoid household chores ripping open the packaging of a new strawberry Lip Smacker crying that I'm too old to play with Barbies Reminds of me of the characters on Pen15. Women pretending to be girls pretending to be women.

I reserve my girly fragrances for bedtime, in hopes of their powdery sweetness seeping into my dreams, though it’s to no avail; I’m always dreaming about heavy rain and all my teeth falling out...but what a lovely scent to fall asleep wearing!

Freakin Love’s Baby Soft, your old prom corsage, and lip gloss. I feel indecent wearing this, and I love it.

This fragrance really does match it's description perfectly. It's a plastic baby doll, with that artificial strawberry powder smell that used to accompany scented toys. As it wears, the musk is very prominent on me, almost to the point of being dirty, the "something slightly more unnerving underneath." The unfolding of The Pink Bedroom is a coming of age story. It's such a shame this was a limited edition fragrance. EDIT: It looks like Marissa is selling The Pink Bedroom on her website again!!!

This is so much fun. At first I get delicious plastic doll head from my childhood, almost like the Strawberry Shortcake dolls. Very forward lipstick/orris root which is the best part in my opinion. The only thing I kind of wish were a bit less present would be the syrupy strawberry bit, but I find that it dries down fairly quickly to be a doll head, lipstick, dusting powder, with a little rose and it’s just adorable. Paints a beautiful picture as if I myself am in the pink bedroom.

LOVE her vision behind this- it is conceptually everything I’ve ever wanted in a perfume. I personally wish that the lipstick/powder/bottom of purse smell was dialed down and the strawberry and plastic was dialed up because I am a freak and quite literally want to smell like a Strawberry Shortcake VHS case. This scent dries down to a more grown up execution of a really fun idea.

Lovely lovely little scent- however I am not moved by this offering from Marissa. I think this is very subtle and maybe a good layering perfume but it's not a scent that I'm in love with instantly like Maggie The Cat or Tragedy Oil.

To be honest, this is overwhelmingly just roses to me. Not dewy roses or even dusty rose, but soapy rose. I would have loved if Miss Zappas maybe put a little more berries in there, but maybe she didn't want to risk it being overwhelmingly juvenile as it IS supposed to be based on a room in "The Museum of Sex." I don't hate it though and maybe it'll get some new character if I layer it over EOS's strawberry lotion.

I used to have this. It smelled like a straight forward rose oil to me. I make my own oils and this reminded me of one I made with natural dried rose petals. Very simply scent. Not worth it in my opinion. I sold it. (Cute packaging though)

this and annabel's birthday cake are what made me realize i hate rose as a note 😭 i LOVE the concept of this but i couldn't smell anything except an insanely overpowering rose. the sillage and strength was incredible on me though, so that's great if you enjoy the scent! i unfortunately do not and ended up selling mine to someone who can appreciate it much more :) overall rating: 🩷💔🖤🖤🖤 1.5/5

I agree with the baekhyun fan who said that the rose is overpowering. I can still smell the lipstick, and a bit of the strawberry, but I can't really get past the rose note 😔

Reminds me of the PRISCILLA movie beginning. The future Priscilla Presley getting ready in her room. She’s very mature but still keeps her dolls for nostalgia. Little does she know she would marry millions of girls “dream guy”. Years later, she’s in her marital bedroom, happily matching her sophisticated outfits with several of her mini guns. 🔫🎀 The strawberry in this is syrupy but light. Barbie Dolls, AquaNet Hairspray, and pink lipstick. Pink Bedroom comes in a frosted pink classic lipgloss glass vial. I find it more nostalgic and playful novelty type and not a teeny bop scent at all because of the nice clean sexy musk that elevates it. That musk makes it adult playful. 😈 It’s an oil but absorbs easily and warms up during the day and smells almost edible when warm but not at all in a gourmand way but in a naughty way. I love the plastic note in this! Cute s3x kitten adult vibes. I had uploaded a picture and video of this already and was waiting for it to be added so I could leave my review. There’s several Marissa Zappas novelty but nice perfumes that are missing on this site like WH*RE.

Just a little review to share that THE PINK BEDROOM, in my opinion, has red dried dusty rose and orris root as the main accords. There is also a hint of syrupy sweetness attached to the rose. Imagine a bowl of potpourri that has dried, sweet, fragrant red and pink rose petals - and the powdery potpourri scent mixes in the air with orris root... that is what THE PINK BEDROOM smells like to me. THE PINK BEDROOM has a real vintage ambiance about it - almost like entering a Baroque or Rococo themed ladies powder room with brushed gold ornamentation, heavy mirrors, lace folded hand towels, petina hand-painted floral wallpaper, and bowls of rose petal potpourri. Of note, I was expecting a plastic, barbie, dolls head type fragrance, but THE PINK BEDROOM is actually quite the contrary to that, for me personally, to my nose. I do not detect any plastic or dolls head accord. Rather, THE PINK BEDROOM evokes a vintage Victorian era type feel and the closest fragrance I can think of that is a similar genre is ANNA SUI by Anna Sui (in the gothic purple and black bottle). Love!!!! I as hoping for a lot more plastic doll head. Like my childhood dreams of that moment you open a brand new strawberry shortcake doll package and get that blast of plastic smell. I wanted it to be a little more weird. Instead I get a strawberry lipstick vibe with a powdery rose in the background. I absolutely love it! It’s so soft and girly and pretty and I’ll probably wear it a lot more often since it’s not weird at all. Update- after wearing this for awhile I consider this more of a rose fragrance rather than a strawberry one and I’m 100% ok with that!

Delicious plasticky strawberry I just wanna lick it!! For a fragrance oil this has incredible longevity. I wore it to bed this past summer and every time I smell it I get hit with a cascade of memories and feel euphoric. Pink Bedroom is what I like to rub on my wrists after a shower, when my hair is in braids and I’m wearing a big t-shirt and smoking a joint. Perfect little intimate and playful treat for the girls who are constantly in search of life’s yumminess.

Had a lot of potential but was just way too light Could barely smell it on my wrists after I doused myself in the oil. Maybe they will make as an EDP? That would be great! A light strawberry with a faint waft of rose de Mai. Had a slight scented doll head feeling but sadly was almost imperceptible. Scented Dolls from Amorphous really nails the 80’s strawberry short cake doll to perfection. Also their oil is much more potent.

One of the most fun perfumes I have ever had. I dont like wearing it much because it is super sweet. Like multiple cavities...but the perfume was a perfect match to the Pink Bedroom exhibit. BARBIE DOLL PLASTIC, GIRLHOOD, ROSE, LIPSTICK.

For anyone interested in this. I just saw on Marissa Zappas’ IG yesterday this is being release again in June 2024. She is going through a rebranding and then this is coming back! 🎉

Rosy vinyl with the pitch (if not the strength) of Insolence. Sour berry lipgloss meets the fragrant clay of real cosmetics. Playful, sensual, campy, vanillic, comforting.

Sad to find out this was a limited edition item from August and I can’t get it now

I would pay an indecent amount of money for an EDP of this scent.
