Black Angel

As with most fragrances created by Mark Buxton, Black Angel is subtle, with moderate silage and longevity. It attempts to capture the lightness of citrus with the darker amber in the base. There are so many fragrances with similar notes that it is hard for any one to stand out dramatically. This is a fragrance that can be worn anywhere and anytime and will draw compliments for its sophisticated mix but only if people are close enough to catch its rather light cloud. I think the name is misleading and it may be a bit too angelic to earn its dark art. I have read reviews of this one that say it will be great in a club. I can't imagine it standing out there unless the wearer has emptied the whole bottle over themselves. This scent makes me feel cooly warm in the late summer. It does have a bit of a sexy kick to it in the dry down and I would enjoy this scent on virtually anyone, Classy, but not old-fashioned. Buxton is one of the great makers of subtle gems. Well worth a sample. I am glad i have a full bottle.

This is airy, sweet and ambery all at once. It opens with a crisp, uplifting brightness that whispers “hell yes” rather than shouts. Then it settles into a soft, warm glow that feels comforting and reassuring, like a deep exhale at the end of a busy day. The overall performance leans lighter unless I pour it on, which I often do. It wears beautifully and effortlessly. The ladies notice, this one is a genuine compliment magnet. If you’re familiar with the energy of Hedonist Extrait or Tygar, this hits a similar sweet spot: polished, modern, and quietly seductive without the full-throttle seduction. It’s confident, calm, and comfortable.

All the scents in this line smell good, but none of them at least on me. My skin/chemistry is tough on fragrance, so your results will vary. This is a nice, woody, slightly spicy scent. In the southern US this is mid September when the golden rod is out, everything is turning brown and summer is fading away. I enjoy it, but due to its sillage and longevity I probably won’t replace my sample.

Smells like baby powder in the opening but I really like the drydown! Wish it was like that consistently though
