Emotional Rescue

Just got my bottle of Emotional Drop (the new black bottle packaging of Emotional Rescue - but without any reformulation), after having hesitated for an hour at Buxton's perfumery (Nose, in Paris), between this one and Devil in Disguise (which has not changed name). A great rooty vetiver (very close to pure vetiver oil) with a strong rose support, and also a hint of iris and violet in the background. Currant could be spotted, but you'll need some imagination for that. Reminds me of Diptyque Vetyverio EDP, with a better projection (moderate/heavy in the first 3 hours, than moderate for another 3 hours, then skin scent for 2/4hours) and a twist. Beautiful. I agree with understated and yet eccentric. A unic soapy scent because of the original combination of the vetiver, the tangy gooseberries, the iso E super and the iris. It' swell done and I really like it. It starts zingy, grassy, gingery (although no ginger) and gooseberrie-y. After the opening number the flowers and the other fruit start to sing and make it really playfull and fresh. I bought it and love it. Plus note: not many others smell like this.

Gorgeous! Blind bought this because of the notes (and because Emotional Rescue is a great name), and I am thrilled! A safe one if you love vetiver. I have the discontinued one (the one pictured) and I think it's a shame they've changed the name and bottle.

Grassy green and oh so cheery! I honestly can't imagine how anyone could actually dislike this. I would put this in the same ballpark as Atelier Cologne's Vetiver Fatale, but where that is quite fruity, this is much more grassy.

Rob2b is right; you need to give this one a bit of time to develop on the skin before making a judgment. The first 10 minutes are quite something if you're not used to grassy vetiver, combined with sharp gooseberries. My initial reaction was "Ermahgerd" but after a while, the floral notes emerge and Emotional Rescue becomes a typical Mark Buxton. Understated but eccentric, woody and with some subtle florals and resins in the mix. There were some strong similarities between this and mb02, which Buxton composed for Biehl Parfumkunstwerke. The iris and violet are hiding behind a woody or herbal top note initially, but eventually take centre stage. I wouldn't say this one is a classic either, but it's rather pleasant and interesting when the vetiver calms down. Edit: this makes a good layering scent. Citrus/berries/iris/violet dominant scents work well.

Do not be put off by other reviewers' hyperbole. This is an extremely clean and sharp green herbal fragrance, with an abundance of green, unripe fruit, bitter plant stems and pepper. I have just applied one spritz of this to my forearm and let it settle for about 30 minutes. It is crisp and enjoyable. This is the perfect fragrance for giving a lift to a flagging mood (emotional rescue!) or to survive heat/humidity. This fragrance is completely unisex, although it would suit a younger person, probably under 35, who will enjoy its freshness. This is certainly not a classic fragrance but it is nonetheless well-conceived.

I got a sample of this. Vetiver and gooseberry―how interesting! Sniffing the sprayer, it smells like a tart, woody vetiver. Unisex. I sprayed a little on me, and after 5 minutes, it's just vetiver. Really heavy, dry, cloying vetiver. My skin seems to amp up vetiver; it's not my favorite note anyway. Although different in their vials, Emotional Rescue is barely indistinguishable, once dried on my skin, from other vetiver-heavy scents like Olympic Orchids' Salamanca. They're both just pure vetiver on me. Bummer, because it smells unique and nice from the bottle.

Tart berry vetiver with floral hints Definitely a vetiver centric offering, utilzing the sulphuric somewhat grapefruit like facets of vetiver (and vetiver like raw materials) to paint the image of an tart berry, along the lines of a currant or, if creative liberty allows for it, gooseberry, why not. To soften through the robust earthy roots vetiver is a slightly violet-y ionone based ‚cloud‘, making me immediately think of Sycomore in the way the delicate violet opening interacts with the rather sharp vetiver. However what you will mostly register is raw roots woody inky vetiver. I don’t see the need for this in my collection, but you may. I definitely enjoy vetiver as a core component of many fragrances but not enough to be drawn by something like this, or vetiver veritas or even Vetyverio EDP that strongly approach raw vetiver oil, I believe some Javanese variant blended with acetates.

Horrible. From a distance the vetiver (an ingredient I despise) and gooseberry are fresh, soapy, and peppery, but close up it just smells like a burning tyre, at least for the first few hours, before becoming an insecticide. I personally find all the fragrances in his eponymous range flaccid, thin, uninspired, similar, and unpleasant; if they were art they'd all be sketched in a palette the colors of snot. Their saving grace is that they don't last. To each their own, but IMHO this belongs on a nursing home floor, or inside an industrial machine, or in the bin.

If you’re depressed this would be the smelling sauce to bring you out of it. If I owned a spa this is how it would smell inside. I get a powdery iris that is smoothly balanced with vetiver. There is a very faint gin and tonic vibe in the background which is the juniper berry. There is a soapy clean smell that seems to engulf the entire pyramid of its development. Overall, this a very well blended concoction. It resembles Clive Christian 1872 for women.

Quite a nice vetiver (I have to admit I have a soft spot for vetiver in general), paired with barely discernible floral notes, more to give it a teist than anything else. Luckily I don't feel any berries on my skin :) Unfortunately I don't detect any fir either and I was rather hoping I would ;)

I believe the name has been changed to Emotional Drop and it now comes in a black bottle similar in shape.
