mark Earth

Admittedly: I was never a fan of mark (or Avon) fragrances in general. I'm not a fragrance snob and am open to trying all kinds: from drugstore to "Drop that bottle lady and we'll possess all your worldly goods!" Any major design house backed by big bucks and a built-in clientele had better know how to compose fantastic fragrances (for prices that often top the price of gold!) I'm more careful with less expensive fragrance brands as obviously they work with less costly ingredients (and lesser-known chemists) in their attempt to make scents available to everyone. I'm very much in favor of this. It's always a great reward to experiment with more affordable scents and find a hidden gem. I've never held the belief that cost alone is an effective measure of success. This brings me back to mark/Avon fragrances, and in particular: "Earth." I haven't a thing against mark/Avon, but for many years haven't been lucky enough to find anything there that works with my dry, highly acidic chemistry. Surprise! They are the very ones that taught me to "Never give up hope" after I tried and had much success with Cynthia Rowley's "Flower," Christian Lacroix's "Absynthe," "Perle Noire," "Casbah," and now..."Earth." Likely more of which I've not yet tried, and more in future, too. The bottle itself captures the essence of "Earth" the fragrance remarkably well. It's quaint, quiet, and very natural. Refreshing in it's relative simplicity to the extravagant bottles that are often coveted. Right down to the brown fabric topper and green juice: this is "Earth" in all of it's simple glory. As for the juice itself: it is certainly earthy, but not so in a dingy, heavy, muddled way. Quite the opposite, in fact. It is crisp, invigorating, luscious, and oh-so-verdant. It is possibly the most natural outdoorsy scent in my wardrobe. Somehow mark (Avon) managed to capture a very realistic impression of nature itself inside this charming orb! "Earth." Green, woodsy, and floral notes. Not very specific, but ever-so-accurate. For what exactly are those specific notes herein? The art of camouflage is masterfully done here just as it is in nature. None of the notes ever truly dominates but instead mysteriously enhance each other to create a true sense of being outdoors. I don't get warmth, however. I think this is a cool--not cold--scent best left for Spring, Summer, and early Fall days. Here's my take on how "Earth" presents itself on my own skin. For the "Green" part of the symphony: my senses read crushed Violet Leaf (not the flower), Melon (Calone), Green Apple, and Cucumber. I detect "Woods," but specifically only Bamboo. The "Flowers" are also subtle, not sweet--and the kind which lend themselves to the Floral and Woodsy chorus. The masquerade/camouflage effect lies in the fact that the fruit notes create "Green" not fruity, and the "Floral" notes add a raw dustiness to the composition that suggest earthiness and "Woods" more than any specific "Flowers." Think Geranium, Nasturtium, and Iris. The kinds of notes that are flowers--yet not, fruits: yet are they? And woods are definitely present: but do let's first wait for a fine breeze for them to greet us! This is not grass, nor woods, nor flowers, nor water, nor soil. Nothing is predominant. It all melds together seamlessly to create a succulent 'al fresco' that is "Earth" itself.

I used an entire bottle of this as a young girl, and recently managed to snag one from eBay under $35. This is exactly as I remembered it, which rarely happens when I revisit old favorites. Earth smells like someone added the slightest hint of sweetness to freshy cut grass. Perhaps it just rained and the air is still humid - it's a hot Summer day but the sun hasn't quite peaked back out and you're standing outside in the backyard barefoot. I can't distinguish any specific florals in this but when I say sweetness I don't mean in the sugary sense. It's like the sweetness of the sun? This one is difficult to explain, I'd suggest blind buying if you find at a reasonable price. I will cherish the bottle I've got and hope that one day I'll find another green fragrance that stuns like this. Edit: a close relative is the love & juicy perfume. While it lacks the depth that earth has it smells very similar in top notes and performs only marginally worse.

Earth is one of my favorite floral green fragrances. What a great fragrance for such a little price tag! The opening is a very green, herbal, almost sour note. As the day goes, floral and woody notes emerge making Earth a beautiful and complex fragrance. I have to say that upon first spray, you may think that it's not so pleasant--but give it a couple of minutes. If nothing else, you'll be able to say it's unique. There is no patchouli listed in the notes, but it is reminiscent of a fresh green patchouli, grass, celery, and a little bit of asbinthe to my nose. Ahhhh, refreshing! Longevity and projection are way above average. I wore Earth for 7 hours, no reapplication necessary and everyone wanted to know who smelled so good! Suitable for office (if sprayed lightly), daytime, summer or fall. Rating 8 out of 10 only because I wish the opening was a little less sharp, but it's a great buy!

Thank goodness... An Avon brand WITHOUT a musky dry-down. (I'm just not a musk kind of gal.) I agree with the reviews that pick up cucumber, but I also can smell a hint of cantaloupe in there immediately after the first spritz. Not strong but on my skin, it's there. Also present immediately is the wood smell. Very exciting - what I look for to wake me up in the a.m. when I put it on. After a few moments, on my skin it dries to a soft, pleasant flowery smell while the cucumber and cantaloupe fade to the background. There's nothing "dated" about this scent which is what I like, and what my husband likes (added bonus). Perfect for nighttime. Typical of Avon fragrances though - the scent fades within the hour. I bought it during the discontinued sale price so for 5 bucks, I shouldn't complain ;) If I see it again on eBay for just as cheap S/H included), I'll be purchasing it again.

Hmm. Very interesting effect this has. I have tested an ELO, van cleef & arpels, and faberlique in different spots, and i always go back to sniffing the spot where i tested Earth. How delightfully refreshing! I smell cucumber, fresh cut grass, earth, woods.. Very natural smelling, and it takes me to summertime, hanging in the yard, pruning flowers, soaking up sun, after the lawn is cut. This a very fresh, positive, gentle scent. And when i go full fledged hippie in the summer, wearnig nada but silken sundresses & sandals, this will be my anthem. Good enough to thoroughly fall in love with, and easy on the pocketbook so i can apply shamlessly over & over! I will get a fb asap, maybe two! What a pick me up!

Every year, mid-September to mid-October, this perfume is all I want to wear. To me, it's the epitome of Fall in New England (Northeast US) where I live... like a walk in the woods when the leaves are turning, some have already fallen and are crunching underfoot. Green, earthy, dry, crispy... this is not the springtime scent of new green growth. It's a grassy field that's seen the scorching summer sun, and now has a brief reprieve before the long winter sets in. Earth is my transition fragrance... all too soon the temps will drop, snow will fall, and I'll want to smell like a cookie. But for a few short weeks in Autumn, nothing but this will do. Lasts a good 8 hours... amazing for an Avon scent.

So glad I bought two bottles when the were on clearance with the intention of giving one as a gift. I love Gap`s Grass and have been searching for a similar scent for years. This is really fresh and green. Also kinda sweet. Very easy to wear. Needless to say, I'll be keeping both bottles.

Cucumbers, a fresh lawn, banana leaves, a pinch of lime and a couple of dandelions... Fields of green, a Spring afternoon - Earth: an endearingly memorable and artistically sophisticated scent.

i love this stuff! total departure from every fragrance i have, including what i consider the "classic chypre" framework. give it a try so affordable you couldn't regret it.

This perfume is indeed a twin to Cristalle Chanel. If you love Cristalle, you will love this too!

Hmmm I love this...it definitively smells green and its really fresh and I think it smells fab!

I sold Avon for many years, and had my share of "dealing" with this interesting perfume and body butter. It was such an odd composition to me, yet not in the least offensive. It just wasn't "me" so I wouldn't ever wear it. I gave a gift pack to a friend who owns an organic commercial garden and she LOVED it. It smelled just like her! Damp earth, leaves that have been tromped on, slightly musky and a distinct vegetable smell too. Not in a bad way....think ripe tomatoes or dripping English cucumbers bursting with flavor. I never did get to much floral out of the composition, but did smell something that reminded me of the blackberry bushes we have all over our beach property in Washington State. Blackberrys have a very pungent musky heady scent, especially when they are over-ripe and I smelled some sort of element of that in this lovely mix. The dry down reminded me of Estee Lauder's Private Collection Perfume (original) and maybe just a twinge of Elizabeth Arden's Blue Grass mixed with Jean Nate. It is just such a different scent. One that made me want to go lay on a lovely grassy field, look up at the blue sky and clouds, contemplate life and how lucky I am to be alive all while eating a bowl of berries! Sadly, I just put the lid back on and went about my day. Next time I should seize the moment when a scent over takes me! After all, that is part of why I adore fragrance so much. It enriches my life, memories and happiness.

I received a brand new, full bottle of this from the very generous "D." I absolutely love it! This perfume is the "greenest" perfume I think I've ever smelled. Very fresh! It reminds me of walking around outside when all the flowers and leaves in the garden are covered with morning dew. This perfume smells expensive and since it is now discontinued I imagine the price probably reflects that fact. When first introduced I'm sure it sold for a reasonable cost. I like that it's not over done with too many florals, in fact there is just a hint of floral I can detect and it's very mellow. The "leafy" smell is what I get mostly with a little hint of woodiness as well. So unique, so different, so nice! I also like the bottle. It looks like that cool, green glass that was so popular in the 70's. I've seen drinking glasses and pitchers from that era made out of the same glass. I could do without the brown "scrunchie" that is around the cap though. It's ugly and serves no purpose. Overall I am very happy with this perfume and grateful to own it. Anyone who is a fan of "green" perfumes will also love it I'm sure. The lasting power is amazing. I apply in the morning and by evening I can still smell it. If you can manage to find a bottle of this, test it out and see for yourself!

I don't get any florals in Mark Earth, at all... All I get is greens and woods, loads of both. There also seems to be some dirt for good measure, but not your ordinary, dirty, dusty, city dirt, but rather the kind of dirt you'll find when you venture into the woods, find a mossy patch, and dig up some of that moss and dirt up. It also reminds me of a smell of properly composted dirt - no, nothing rotting or gross, just a "sweet" smelling, fluffy, light dirt I use in my outdoor gardening sessions... The bottle is quite lovely, too; I like green glass. Not too crazy about that brown fabric scrunchie-like bit; it's cute but you have to take it off before you can spray the scent (there is a metal cap right under the scrunchie). Sadly, Mark Earth does not work as a fragrance for me - on my skin, it turns from a lovely smelling walk-in-the-woods thing to something resembling woods-and-B.O.. It just gets too masculine on me. But it works like a charm as a room freshener :)

For an EDT this is a very nice fragrance. It last quite a long time too for an EDT. I think this is a good smell for Spring & Summer. It is very fresh and lively. It is not an offensive smell in the least but rather refreshing. I don't get a grass smell but maybe I am not familiar with that smell in a fragrance. I do know I like it, and I will be using it for this Spring. The bottle is unique in a weird kind of way. Not sure about the brown cloth thing around the top though. ;-) Guess that adds to the idea of a woody, green scent. Good buy on this fragrance & I have heard rumors of it being discontinued. Hope not, this is a keeper type scent that will get lots of use this season.

I don't usually use Avon products but was very curious and bought it because of a promo - buy 1 get the body lotion free. I wasn't disappointed. The scent of the edt is so green and refreshing it feels like you are in the forest after a rain. Couldn't smell the flowers at all which is good because I wanted a non-floral scent in my collection. Lasting power is very good but doesn't last for more than 8 hours. Scent is not strong so its great for day-time wear or office wear during spring summer and even fall. The body cream is strong enough to last the whole day and great for layering with the edt.

A beautiful and unique fall fragrance, very green and earthy, it reminds me of taking a walk in the fall right after it rains. I don't detect any particular floral notes but I think I recognize the cucumber other reviewers have mentioned, which is nice as it freshens it up and keeps it from smelling musty. It's not one that I wear often, so that beautiful little bottle with the "scrunchie" will be in my collection forever.

Well, that's what I get for posting a sale. They were sold out when I went back to the avon site a day or two later, so I bought it from ebay. I like this! First, what an adorable little bottle. I enjoy having it on my perfume tray. The scent is nice and earthy- bamboo, cucumber and rain. Mossy and soft, nothing sharp. I wish I could smell a little more wood or earth, but overall very fresh.

Very Earthy scent. Wet dirt/cut grass smell.

If you LOVE the smell of dirt on a human being, or the smell of overripe watermelon sliced open from the supermarket, or the guts of a pumpkin; you may just think that this weird dirt smell actually smells....clean. I'm guessing they tried to make this smell grassy, but I felt nauseated just wearing it. I tried to scrub it off, but since that didn't work i tried to layer it with pink grapefruit. I really, really dislike this perfume, and I consider myself a pretty open-minded, free loving fragrance lover. But this one made me feel sick.

Just got this in the mail yesterday from avon.com - I don't know WHAT to think of it. At first I thought (because I have a nasty sinus condition/head cold) that it smelled like raw nuts in the mud ... Nope; not my cold - it just smells peculiar. My mother, however, likes it, but she also lost most of her sense of smell years ago. I'm afraid to wear it out anywhere. Pretty bottle, though.

i had hoped that this might smell like the old Avon perfume by the same name... but it didn't. so then i hoped it might be a green-grass-and-dirt sort of scent, but nope to that, too. what this was, to me, was Haiku rebottled. boo.

This smells like grass and mud after it rains, sort of damp and dingy. I don't get much in the way of floral notes or woods, unless they've been drowned. I'll pass on this one, it doesn't work on me.

I don't care for Mark Earth. It's not a horrible smell, but I don't like it. To me it smells like the aloe vera gel you use on sunburns. I get a stong odor of cucumber from this fragrance.

This smells really green. Smells like grass and dirt. Don't get me wrong it isn't to bad, but its really, really earthy. Can't wear it for to long.

Oh man, am I disappointed in this one! :( Wet grass and soil is all I'm getting... It is fresh I'll give it that much, but that's about it!

Maybe it was TOO green for me. I didn't like this at all. It was weedy smelling to me.

Lots of cucumber in the opening, wow. Also nothing like Peace, Love, & Juicy on me; that one was sharp, astringent even, and freshly-cut green. This one's watery, sweet, and gently green. Very pleasant but much sweeter than I was expecting! It smells like a cucumber salad that's been sweetened w/ watermelon juice on my skin. 45 mins in: smells like Anarchy Axe body spray (which I really love for what it is) but I wanted fresh, realistic greens from this. Also, yes: it smells like Be Delicious DKNY. Oh well... EDIT: 2 hours in: I canNOT believe this doesn't have watermelon or honeydew (or a synthetic melon scent, like in L'eau d'Issey) in it. There must be melon! Anyway it's still sweet, cucumber-melony and refreshing though not what I was looking for. Nice sweet summer scent. Too generic for me but a pleasant, shampoo-y scent nonetheless. Can see this getting lots of compliments. P.S. Also sillage impressed me! I'd sprayed a sample of it on my leg (just lower than my knee) in case I didn't like it and I got whiffs of it for a good 4 hrs at least w/out having to 'search' for it. Thumbs up!

I got this a long time ago, and I had actually forgotten about having it until I saw it listed on here. I rummaged around a bit, and was able to locate my old, unused bottle, still in the box. I didn't remember liking it all that much, but after spraying it on my arm today, my opinion of the fragrance has changed dramatically. Some people get earth or dirt with this, but I do not. Of course, certain chemistries highlight certain notes, so I suppose I'm one of the lucky ones that it doesn't smell like dirt on me. It's very green, I agree with another reviewer who likened it to bamboo. I also get a soft sweetness (presumably the florals) that diffuses the sharpness of the green fragrance, and mellows the overall scent. Very nice, damp, green scent, this also has a sort of ozone note like you smell after a summer rain. I didn't remember liking it, but today I am a convert.

This has sweet sweet! damp grass, cucmbers (but you gotta love them here!), lush muguet, maybe even narcissus and several leaf of flora mixed together. it is most natural smelling, like a trip in a garden full of heady vibrant flowers. perfect - in its construction, its sillage and staying power. Pitty it's just not right for me, gives me to my dejection a headache. But if I was into floral-green, this would be it! I'm really annoyed with myself right now, that I just can't cope with the flowers -again- in a most perfect fragrance! This is so very gentle but not boring; and so very very unpretentious! Even through my headache I laudate the fragrance itself and envy those who will enjoy this! Bottle and scent match too! Price is ridiculously low, why do florals and me just don't fit together?

If you would like to replicate the scent of this perfume, please do the following: 1) Allow the grass in your yard to grow high. Wait for a stormy night. 2) When the rain has cleared, get up early in the morning just as the sun is rising. 3) Scatter a bunch of daffodils, some jasmine and three cucumbers on the grass. 4) Get out your lawnmower and run over the lot. 5) Inhale and sigh. I bought this one blind based on the reviews here. I love green fragrances, but only those without citrus included. I've always had a slight aversion to Avon scents because they have that sort of Avon-y smell that puts me off after a few hours. The Mark brand isn't available in Australia, so I thought I'd buy it an Ebay anyway, and I'm so glad I did! Just really lovely. I can't stop smelling my wrist!

I feel just like little red riding hood walking thru the woods!!! The trees r green in full leaf and the ground is warming up after a bitter cold winter. My hood is more for a slight sprinkling of rain than for warmth. This fume is unique in itself. Equally green and woody and full of life. Its a comforting scent. along the way I see and smell ahead,gardenias growing in a patch of green grass. They have poked their little heads thru and pushed aside the brown leaves. This scent lasts alas,only a short whilebut,its good for a little stroll and has no big bad wolf!

Thanks to lovely artysmom for swapping with me and sending me this as it was on my want list. Firstly, I love the bottle. The smell - hmm, I wanted so much to like this but there's a sharp overtone to it that I just don't get on with unfortunately, I like my greens a bit more easy. Having read the reviews, I was expecting something more soft, ethereal. Having said that, I've only tried it on my wrist and will give it another proper go but I'm usually quite good at making the right yay or nay decision straight away with a perfume.

I kinda like this Mark Earth and I am a guy. I even think about wearing it. Like many reviewers, it's nice grassy smell but nothing like sharp and pungent wheatgrass. Then I can smell gardenia, which is soft and much nicer than other white flowers such as jasmine. There is a hint of lotus and subtle wood also, I think. Overall is a nice scent that anyone can enjoy. It may sound heavy but it is not. It's so damp earthy, fresh and green. It's not over the top nor intrusive. Mark Earth, I like you!

Wish I were lucky enough to smell wet grass after a rain by applying Mark Earth but no deal. I had high hopes---who wouldn't love a cheaper chypre that could be worn with abandon? To me this stuff has no character, like it's been focus-grouped to death and doesn't know who it wants to please so it settles for just trying not to offend any demographic. And what is that smell that lurks in the background of some Avon and Victoria's Secret fragrances anyhow?

I have been searching everywhere for Calgon's Herbal Meadows, which was my favorite scent from Calgon and they discontinued. Low and behold I get this perfume based on the reviews and because I love green fragrances and it smells almost identical. Not only is this a great smelling perfume but air freshener too. The scent makes me feel like I'm dancing in an earthy grassy meadow with wild flowers growing all around. I'm so happy I found this.

Is it green? Very! For the price, one of the best fresh frags I've found. I like it in the fall, when the leaves are changing and the air is crisp. Love wearing it outside. It lasts a good while, too, in comparison to other less expensive scents which dissipate quickly. Look at the bottle and you know what you'll smell. Definitely truth in advertising.

I really like this, so I only wear it occasionally because they don't make it any more. At first spritz, it's freshly cut greens, like flower stems and then within an hour it smells like I have been walking through the woods. People stop me and ask what I am wearing, sometimes weird homeless men, but a compliment is a compliment.

I was looking for something that smelled like the old Gap scent "Grass". I think I found it in Earth, although it is also discontinued. I found many cheap options to buy on ebay. No such luck with Grass.

...just got this frag today! I'm NOT disappointed...The green notes are what I was after...It smells expensive...Someone told me Avon is phasing this one out, so grab 'em while you can, folks!

Mark Earth reminds me so much of Coty Sweet Earth solid fragrances of the seventies. It's not sugar and spice or floral but an earthy fragrance and is aptly named.

I've wanted to try this for so long, maybe a look on eBay would be a good idea! Does that brown thing remind anyone else of the sorting hat from Harry Potter?
