Carnicure

i get a spark of that warm, slightly salty, almost pissy, animalic tinge in the opening similar to ambilux, as well as a resemblance to kiehl's original musk. only carnicure is way less sharp and complex than kiehl's musk, so it has less of that thicker florals, and the florals here is rather soft, vague and abstracted. it kind of reminds me of something honeyed like linden blossom or honeysuckle, with a bit of a laundry-like feel which adds a bit of a soapy texture similar to kiehl's musk. but again, that laundry/soapy-like feel never feels sharp like in kiehl's. that salty animalic spark in the opening tones down as it settles down on my skin, leaving mostly a warm and humanistic feel to the fragrance. there is also a soft and non-gourmand/vanillic sweetness that makes this really cozy and soft. it's like a slightly salty, almost plasticy, dough-like sweetness that almost smell like an older plastic doll head, especially when mixed with the musk, which is the main note i get in this fragrance. the musk smells fuzzy almost plasticy peppery, and slightly waxy almost leaning crayon-like, but never too harsh like in bruno acampora's musc. that soft, laundry-like, vague florals along with the warm animalic note creates a classic clean and dirty tension to this dominantly musky fragrance (which most musks do). as a result it feels natural and lived in, especially with that vague non-gourmand sweetness adding softness. a perfect example of a your-skin-but-better type of fragrance for my taste so far. i can smell the similar dna with ambilux except ambilux has more of that animalic, almost pissy, musky, b.o. note in it, and that warm, plasticy, sour note which i'm told comes from the synthetic costus they used, which i'm not a big fan of. i find this more cozy and comforting. this is also the perfect substitute to my kiehl's musk which has been my signature scent since i was 16. this feels more bare, minimalistic, contemporary, natural and intimate compared to that.

L’animal Sauvage has been part of my perfume palate expansion. I ordered a sample from good ole luckyscent due to their target advertising successfully reaching me. When I got it, the intense musk threw me. It has an incense quality, and animalic & civet overtones. Some melted candle wax. A retro vibe. Not vintage exactly, but in that style. The compositional approach is as overtly sexual as a 70’s style shag carpeted van with a mini water bed inside. I wasn’t sure I could hang with that. I can say now that it’s perfect. Not for everyone of course, but definitely for me. I always run my samples by my boyfriend. When I held my wrist up to his nose, his eyes popped open and he said he liked it...which means I am buying it. He also commented on the incense-y note, must be the sandalwood unfortunately not listed on fragrantica (“woody notes” can mean so many different things). I had wondered if it was just me smelling it. I am picturing this - my new summer fragrance - as a faux animal pelt bikini à la Raquel Welch in One Million Years BC. Sillage seems minimal, but that is always turned up in the summer heat. I wouldn’t have thought of it as a summer perfume if not for moodypaws review. I had been looking at white florals with a touch of animalics, but I thought they were too conventional, too mild mannered, too girly. It turns out I needed animalic with a touch of white floral. As others have commented, I also get mild chocolate notes, like milk chocolate with blends so very well with the sandalwood. There’s stretch in the late development that’s “cuddly”, I guess it could be referred to as the afterglow. ;) Full dry down hours after application still allures as a clean(ish) high quality musk, and sandalwood. Wonderfully done AND affordable. I don’t think there’s anything more I could have asked for. Update: I used a 30 ml bottle within 5 months. I’m still seduced by it, and am about to re-up.

The Victorian violets have turned depraved in Carnicure's opening scene. Their innocence is lost now: they run with the wrong crowd, sleazy kitties and dirty birdies, gallivanting in a manner that would make any Disney princess clutch her pearls and reach for her smelling salts. They've traded Wuthering Heights for a chance to be extras in an Aerosmith video. Goodbye moors, hello "more, more, more!" In all seriousness, this is the ultimate animalic with just the right balance. It teases with the incidental leakage of sordid affairs without ever making the wearer (me, in the case) feel incontinent or soiled or filled with frightful flatulence. This is important, as many a daring animalic 'fume in the 21st century have taken this to disproportionate, even obscene levels (see another release from this house, Ambilux, formerly Ambiguité 50ml). The presence of violet ionones elevate the fur-fest and lustiness, and the raunchy cedar exhale and costus sebum of Animalis forms the nucleus of Carnicure (or Shangrilade, or Tonquitone, or....all the beastly goodies). Perhaps some Civettone as well? Meow meow. This is a GOOD animalic (nods enthusiastically). There are comparisons to Kiehl's Original Musk (the above bases mentioned could account for this), and Muscs Koublai Khan (Carnicure transcends it), but whereas the two dabble with florals and spice respectively, this is minimal, streamlined, not a detour in sight. The notes pyramid mentions whipped cream, but nothing in Carnicure evokes that for me personally, but your mileage may vary. Perhaps there's a vaguely vanillic skin-note, echoing the dry down of Bal à Versailles, but that's the extent of any sweetness. I will reiterate, this is not a feral beast, but it is a surreptitious sexpot...

So many times I try a fragrance that someone says is animalic, and I always disagree. A lot of the time people say something is animalic, it's usually overloaded with cumin (I'm looking at you, Ambilux), costus, leathers or oud. To me they are not animalic, they are just dirty. However THIS absolutely has an animalic element in it. It smells like animal fur. I see dog fur was brought up in an earlier review, but I think it can really extend out to an animal with short fur, because on top of the animal fur scent it feels like you're getting right into the skin, so it doesn't seem right to describe it as a long haired animal like a cat. So I can see the comparison with it smelling like dog fur, but as someone who hates the smell of dogs, I don't hate the smell of this. It's not sweaty or dirty, it just smells like I've picked up a small dog and smelled it's fur. However this is absolutely the smell of a clean dog. Not freshly clean and smelling of soap, but rather a dog that had a bath a couple of days ago and has spent the time since lounging around the house. Here's the thing though, you only get that note if you stick your nose right into skin. In the air it smells rich in violet petals. It smells so clean and smooth, and in such a way that no gender applies to it. It's a cozy scent. When I first tried it, I blew this off as being boring, floral and not very animalic. I'm glad that I had a sample that I could then come back to a few months later. It's dirty in an actually animalic way. I smell like I've rubbed an animal all over me. It makes me feel like I've been transported back 100 years, and it's a fascinating sensation to experience.

Was able to sample Ambilux as well as this bad boy. With Carnicure, I initially get a lot of powdery floral notes, with a solid mixture of clean and dirty musk, and slight sandalwood. The floral and powdery notes are certainly very similar to Kiehl's musk as many have mentioned. Same can be said for the clean muskiness. However, the dirty musk that is in there as well certainly has a sharper animalic edge. It's hay/barnyardy with ever so slight touches of urine/fecal notes. At about an hour in, the floral notes die down a bit allowing more of the dirty musk and civet to come through. Here, it maintains a bit of that powdery-ness which, to me, is still welcome. Note until about 1 1/2 - 2 hours do I get more of dirty animalic notes on the forefront. This is definitely more of the ambery glow phase for me where I'm left with a gloriously sweet animalic bliss. Friggin LOVE it. To me, this is more preferred than the Ambilux at this point. Ambilux is a bit more complex in the sense that there are more notes to take in throughout the wear. However, Carnicure is much more straight and to the point. I think someone mentioned this being something like Kiehl's Musk's dirty cousin, and I concur. SOMEWHAT tame in the animalic realm but the dirtiness is there to the point that it will be off-putting for some. I got a few more samples I want to order and try before pulling the trigger on a full bottle of a animatic-heavy/driven fragrance. However, if they don't come up to par with Carnicure, I will certainly be getting a bottle of this!

I'm a musk lover... No, I am a musk stalker in the night to steal you away and lock you in my closet sort of musk lover. Every single fragrance I've ever adored has had musk as either the starring role or supporting character. So, donning my (mental) camouflage gear, I went on the hunt for my next musk prey. Cue in Carnicure. The description of it sounded so interesting - Three fragrance reviewers, in particular, had really detailed descriptions of it on YouTube: The Perfume Guy (in English) Huelememucho (in Spanish), and Roberto e dintorni (in Italian). The Perfume Guy said if you like Kiehl's natural musk oil, you'll like this too, as it's a beefier version, and I agree! My full bottle just came in and I've sprayed the TINIEST little spray on - this stuff is STRONG so not sure if it'll play as a skin scent, as they say. In any case, whether it does or doesn't, IT IS BEAUTIFUL. The initial spray is for sure Civet heavy, and sort of smokey to my nose. When that dies down (it never really goes away, at least on my skin) I get a little salty, and a tiny bit of the orange blossom sort of scent. There's something Pillowy? Soft? not sure what that is - but this leaves like a siren scent trail, luring you in. A very sensual frag, and as one reviewer @albertcamslut said below, "harlot' LOL. It's a love for me. This is the person who looks so chic and prim but will leave you limping the next morning as she walks out calmly. She leaves YOU with shivers throughout the day as you recall what she did to you.

Marlou, and especially Poudrextase and Carnicure, have been for me an amazing introduction into the world of animalic fragrances. I was nervous at the prospect of these fragrances being dirty and "pissy" however they've been an absolute delight to wear and strut around in the evenings, and they don't seem to be thought of as offensive to the nose by anyone I've met so far! But bear in mind that you need to be somewhat of an admirer of funkier scents to properly enjoy these as they do cling to your skin for a long time. In particular, Carnicure brings to mind the image of a fluffy and free-spirited, yet luxurious and elegant house cat lapping at a sweet bowl of delicious milk. It's what I imagine pure seduction would smell like would it manifest in flesh before me. It's ever present on bare skin, reminds of itself occasionally to keep your attention centered on it, but is not intrusive and cloying. It's subtle and doesn't project far, yet once you're close enough it slowly and tantalizingly creeps into your consciousness until it occupies your senses and drives you mad (in the best possible way). I agree with other reviewers below that this is best applied on erogenous zones such as between the thighs, it happens to suit that area very well. I've been testing this out in the hot summer months, however I think it tends to be fairly easily sweated out (not something I blame the formulation of the fragrance for, though), and so it's best suited for the cozier late autumn and winter months.

sullied décolletage skin stained with remnants of a tawdry tryst. hot honey oozing onto midriff draped in fur. a wink, a caress. dried petals as bookmarks between musty love letters. it took me several wears to even begin to get anywhere close to understanding carnicure. wading through clouds of dirty animalia, initially, it seemed like all i could get from it were burnt notes of thick civet; now, i smell a pleasant creamy sweetness, along with a froot loops orange blossom towards the top of the composition, which ends up creating an almost tangy effect coupled with all the skank. the violet is just subtle enough to enhance the downy texture of warm musk, avoiding powdery mishaps. civet still continuously dominates on my skin, but the musk is sweeter and fluffier than i would have ever guessed it would become! a bit of soft cocoa and honey mingle with the dirty skin-like creaminess. still far from explicitly gourmand, the sweetness is gently gesticulated through a cloud of incense smoke in a wooden cellar, a mirage gesturing come hither. deeply inhaling reveals sandalwood, and despite the overall plushness of the fragrance, the woodsy notes are quite dusty and dank, like an old attic full of mildewy books on arcane esoterica and seduction, filled with pressed white flowers from a stranger's long lost lover. songs for carnicure: space heater by geneva jacuzzi, come come by balcony routine, leather me by metal guru.

Carnicure, L’animal Sauvage, sex in a bottle. Nymphomaniac Venus in... furs. Think fur coats, animal skin rug, ushankas. Think of bare skin on genuine leather. Think of the pinnacle of eroticism and then dare to imagine just a bit further past that. Dream. This fragrance is all Venetian courtesan with its slight edge and earth from the sandalwood and patchouli, the inherent vulgarity of civet and musk, the milky sweetness of that whipped cream note. She’s all fleur and flesh like the product description on the Marlou site states.That’s what makes her so beautiful, so present. A cat lapping at spilled milk. The slut (not skank) factor is off the charts for this one, it’s like vabbing but highbrow, French, hygienic. Maybe not slut... whore? No... harlot. Natural... it’s natural as natural can be. Au naturale. Skin on skin. Desire. I remember reading a review of this fragrance here awhile back that said you should spritz this on/between your thighs and I agree, that’s where it goes, on any erogenous zone specifically. Spray it any place you like to be kissed. That’s what it essentially is to me. Love, made and bottled. Sex. Put it on to cheat on your husband. Put it on to cheat on your husband with his mistress. Do bad, bad things in it. Blacken your soul with the deadly sin of lust. Carnality can be a virtue if you do it right, if you just wear the right perfume. This is it. Carnicure, Marlou.

I have this perfume on display. From what I have been able to try this perfume house begins by applying passion in its perfumes with animal aroma, in the use of musks and leathers. And in that passion art is distinguished. It is a perfume of high intensity, with a duration between 12 and 14 hours, or more. This perfume is undoubtedly a perfume for lovers of leather and animal musk. The aroma of leather is sweetened and creamy, accompanied by musk and civet, which certainly gives it a sweet animal aroma, but that sweetness is balanced thanks to the floral tones of orange blossom and violet. Passionate about animal perfumes will feel that this perfume is wild, sensual, carnal, .... I personally am not using such animal perfumes, but I certainly appreciate the good work that is in this perfume and I am sure that those who love animal aromas will enjoy this perfume very much. By the way. In the description missing notes, on the official website they describe it with: Skin, orange blossom, violet, musk, sandalwood, patchouli, civet and cream.

I don't really get any florals or whipped cream. However, Carnicure is delicious in a both sweet and savoury way. There is a strong and challenging note that I suspect is beewax, as it is slightly salty/yeasty. This initial wave calms down after about 10 minutes and remains mostly until drydown. After this you have an addictive fluffy musk cloud sitting on your skin. It smells optimal after about 1.5 hours when everything is settled and just purring like a cat napping on your lap. You definitely have to be a dirty musk enthusiast (i.e lovers of perfumes like Muscs Koublai Khan and Kielhs) to enjoy this one. I personally love it and it's my favourite of the three, as this is the most musky. Ambilux is pepper and fresh dried salty sweat (Not BO) - like if you were out hiking near the beach all day. Poudrextase is mostly just sweet rose note powder - I don't get much animalic vibes from it. They are all different so don't believe one is just a 'lighter' or 'cleaner' version of the other.

I understand why some people might be put off by the slightly powdery, old-school character of Carnicure by Marlou, but to my nose this fragrance is incredibly warm and sexy. Even in the South Florida climate I can wear this successfully, placement is key. When applied carefully, it absolutely shines and feels very seductive without becoming overwhelming. The scent has a cozy, intimate quality that makes me think of curling up on the couch with a glass of single malt scotch and your significant other beside you. It’s the kind of fragrance that creates a mood. If you enjoy Musc Ravageur by Frédéric Malle, I think there’s a good chance you’ll appreciate this as well. They aren’t the same fragrance, but they share something in common, likely that warm, sensual musk that gives both of them their character. For me, this one is deeply alluring. The kind of scent that makes you close your eyes and just enjoy the moment. Scent: 9/10 | Longevity: 8.5/10 | Projection: 7.5/10 | Overall: 9/10

This is some good stuff and the price is right. I hate it when I see someone saying a frag is an affordable version of a more expensive frag - it makes it feel cheaper and puts me off of that frag. No, this is not an MKK replacement, no it's not a cheaper alternative to MKK. I have MKK and ordered a bottle of L'animal Sauvage as well. They are not redundant - especially if you're an animalic/musk lover. You know how MKK has that intense fuzziness to it, with a touch of halitosis? Tone the fuzziness way down, and maybe that halitosis (bad breath) smell, and add HONEY to it! It's good stuff. It's cuddly and yummy. If you've tried d'Ambiguite by Marlou and found that wayyy too much, then don't worry - L'animal Sauvage is nowhere near as challenging as that one. To reiterate - this stands on its own and is NOT just a 'tamed down MKK'. This has an added element of honey/sweetness, and it's awesome.

Not an everyday scent, but definitely very good. Right off the bat it's animalic, aggressive and dry. It's slightly incense-y, and dries down to become much more powdery. As it dries down, the projection dies off, and after a little while the dryness fades away, and the slight sweetness comes forth. The labdanum is definitely present, and the animalic nature is satisfying, a little similar to Hyrax by Zoologist. Lasts almost 12 hours for me, longer on clothes, and projects moderately. In my opinion, a very love or hate fragrance depending on your preferences. Price: 7/10 Longevity: 9/10 Sillage: 8/10 Smell: 9.5/10 Bottle: 8/10 Overall: 8.4/10

The butch of the trio. I love how it changes from this flowery musk to a patchouli and sandal, all dressing this sweet, slightly powdery yet dirty animalic scent that is the star of this fragrance. I love how you can smell each ingredient and how they're adding something instead of making unnecessary noise. I love this line because of how unpretentious and straight foward it is but it doesn't lack complexity. It's primal yet sharp and sofisticated, sitting right on the intersection of smell and perfume. To me, brilliant. Tried a vintage parfum version of Visa from Piguet recently and the balance and feel is similar on my skin

God Carnicure makes me feel nostalgic for childhood summer days. To me this smells distinctly like sticky yellow palms after picking fistfuls of dandelions at the park. The fuzzy, slightly bitter, white sap that stains your hands for the evening. The floral notes here are delightful and wild and feather soft. They dry off a bit sweeter than dandelions. Whatever musk makes up the base is clean skin adjacent. Absolutely gorgeous. Another really fun thing about this fragrance is there is a mild powder note that reads like pollen. Such a warm and gentle evocation. I love this so much. Getting added to the FB wishlist.

Adding another to my wish list! This is just great. There is a faint whiff for me of hair dye but upon closer inspection it is the honey note. And yes, animalic. I hope they didn’t have to hurt any animals? Update: I am so much not a pro at picking apart notes- hair dye? Honey? But yes my nose sniffs these fantasy notes! The hair dye edge softens right upon the point where real hair dye would become unpleasant and rounds out with the imaginary honey. I really love it and ordered it from their website and it arrived today. It has pretty good sillage and longevity- and I’m actually really digging it in the heat!

Lovely musky scent! Orange blossom, violet, cream and civet create a weird Red Bull Impression, or a Mr freeze cola aroma in the opening, but I love it! Dries down to a very warm beeswax, mossy and musky sensual scent. Quite beautiful. Reminds me of Papillon - Salome, only more minimal, without the spice and heavy florals. Also less civet, but this is still very animalic. It is NOT similar to Kiehl's Musk, that would be more like Ambilux, a different offering from this brand. Best of the best if you seek good, rich and dark musk. I find it easy to wear. Good price for the quality too!

Patchouli rises in a warm, smoky haze, almost leathery, then melts into hot wax—a milky base dirtied just enough with a perfectly measured touch of civet. No vanilla, no resins—only the impression of heated skin, rumpled sheets, tobacco still warm on the collar of a shirt. I wore it in the evening. Someone asked if I was wearing leather, or if it was simply me who smelled that way. I didn’t answer. It was CARNICURE speaking for me.
