whilst on a trip last year, i visited an antique shop where i ended up buying an old tobacco pipe that was still in it’s original black leather purse. the owner of the shop said it was atleast 50 years old and belonged to an old man who was a life-long chain smoker. a few hours later, i opened up the purse to admire the pipe. i then realised that there was pouch of tobacco hidden inside a pocket. 50 year old tobacco. this perfume reminds me of the smell of that. dark, stale, antique tobacco that has been perfectly preserved inside it’s leather bag for half a century. no harmful chemicals, toxins or preservatives, just pure tobacco. it is a gorgeous fragrance. the opening is very herbaceous with facets of rooty, soil enriched orris. but once it dries down it transforms into slightly musty old wood, tinged with tobacco smoke and warm leather. there is certainly something antique about it. it’s unisex, but definitely leans more masculine. in my head this scent would be absolutely divine on a man with a cool shaggy mod haircut, who has a big thing for vintage leather jackets, death in june and william burroughs. loool

Nice and classy iris is a good way to describe it. The opening is actually my favourite part, when the herbs and castoreum and ambrette are all freshly fluffed and swirl together to give off sparkles of that signature Marlou dewy-skin toned ripeness. Once that fades (fairly quickly), a classy leathery-rooty iris hangs tight to the skin for a few hours. It's not makeup iris, or powdery, dusty-chocolatey like Dior. It's actually hard to describe. Just lightly radiant, pulsating, and rooty. I love it, but for the house it's light in projection and I often think it's disappeared until I go sniffing for it. So I wish it was stronger but I've found that spraying it under the shirt brings it to life and helps it cling, and I will probably accidentally buy a bottle some night soon when I'm half asleep and my defenses are low. Every time I wear it I get a hankering for Moschino Pour Homme, interestingly. I think it's the castoreum and iris combo, which is irresistible to me.

Gothic Harvest Deity When I saw a new launch from a brand I respect with a note of fenugreek, I blind bought immediately. Always looking to smell like a mysterious harvest goddess, and the earthy iris, hay-like tobacco and the fenugreek bring that to life for me. Add some smoky woods and subtle animal funk, I'm in heaven. In most mythologies, the goddess of the harvest also oversees the cycle of life and death, and there's a healthy dose of gothic darkness here to represent that. Definitely a cold weather scent, very intense. It's a total mood, but still approachable even though its not an easy reach. I know its supposed to be a "horse" scent which is a whole category but I'm just not familiar. Always liked this brand but their other offerings aren't for me. Can't wait to wear this more, it's so interesting. This is why we blind buy, for moments like this.

Beautiful. A very complex woody iris/violet (or woody iris/violet). The top notes are very soft, a veil of violet pleu, a caress, the scent of love and a body in close proximity. The heart notes, meanwhile, are perfectly mastered: soft ambrette, a hint of animal and musk that dances gently with woody, tobacco and smoky aspects. What follows lingers, awakens and dries out: some spicier aspects (fenugreek), brown/ochre tones, the crunch of leaves underfoot on an autumn forest walk. Very sensual, but genuinely sensual: a connection to the scent of life and to the bodies we encounter. A little something in the DS&Durga vein, a few points in common with Scent Society-type references. Personally, it's everything I like. A slight holding problem on my skin, but not really a big red flag.

First review here... Bought the tester pack from Marlou to test Carnicure since I like animalistic fragrances. Tested this and boy oh boy... This is the first time a fragrance makes me physically nauseatic. Brings back vivid, feverish memories from chilhood. Grandparents retirement party with lots of old women smelling something like this. Afterwards puking because of too much cake. Similar "memories" from teenage years when drinking cheapest dessert wine too much and puking. I don't know what this is made of but for me it smells like something overly sweet with gastric acid. Almost puked now 30 years later when tested this. 5/5 for how strong mental and bodily reaction this fragrance gave to me. However, also I hate it.
- em inglês
Opening was very medicinal to me, but the dry down makes this fragrance great. Beautiful iris paired with elegant tobacco, with an animalic castoreum. I also pick up on an unknown note, possibly fenugreek as I can’t remember trying a fragrance with it. It lasts long, I got about 10-11 hours on skin. The projection is average to below average, but this doesn’t take away from the beauty of this fragrance and in my opinion adds to its charm. Overall it’s a beautiful animalic iris, blending sophistication with wildness. Would definitely recommend purchasing the marlou discovery set, as I think that all of their fragrances are some of the best animalics.
- em inglês
Of the three samples I received from this brand, this is by far my favorite. Flickering iris, all at once buttery and sweet, against a backdrop of musks and smoky woods. Too sweet for me to wear in the summer weather, though, it is quite light and sits close to the skin (to be expected from the notes). I don't get much fenugreek, which is what I'd been hoping for--nor is it very green. This is a plush, lavender (the color, NOT the scent) hued fragrance. In a way, it smells like a freshly shampooed head. Compared to Poudrextase and Carnicure, it is the least sweet and the most wearable for me. Cannot way to explore this scent more in the autumn!
- em inglês
I decided to revisit Marlou after seeing a tiktok from Scout Dixon West, I'd previously stumbled on the brand in 2018/9 while questing for a leathery unforgettable something and have fond memories of what was then called L'animale Sauvage (now Carnicure) but I digress. On first test Corpalium reminds me of Cuirs Velours by Naomi Goodsir - though they don't seem to share many notes apart the tobacco theres a certain upper-back nose punch quality on the opening that I can't stop sniffing. Drys down sweeter and muskier which I like. I used to think I didn't like iris notes but this could be a changer for me.
- em inglês
Dry golden herbs starts you off, more on the aromatic side. There is a very powdery almost vintage furniture vibe - soft woods with fading varnish. The iris note here is very rooty and dry but in a very pleasant way. Slightly sweet tobacco, which I'm partial too, with a hint of animalic - more fury than organic discharge - you know what I mean. I don't pick up on the dampness or sweatiness some reviewers noticed. Quiet sillage, as it sits very close to the skin from the onset, but longlasting (6+ Hours), this is a really well blended modern version of a vintage perfume.
- em inglês
They really meant it when they said equine sensuality. This is like falling asleep on a pile of hay in a barn and the old farmer waking you up standing over you smoking his pipe. It's warm, dry, and woody, with a calmer animalic twinge. It's not animalic in a way that screams at you, but it sort of just sits there, like the animal's asleep. Slight bit of BO twinge, but it works so well with the other facets of the smell that you either won't notice it, or you'll like it anyway. Lasts a good while, my only problem is how low the projection is.
- em inglês
Sexy horse but in a way that is more artistic than literal stable. I get new leather, old books, fresh purple florals and blond tobacco. It gives a bright androgynous spin to the more heavy traditionally masculine scent profile of woody leathery tobacco. I wore this to the library and couldnt stop sniffing my wrist. Such a delicious and surprisingly complex little juice.
- em inglês
A very bitter, medicinal, dry wood. Poor ventilation in a tiny trapper cabin while burning thick logs just soaked with sap and resins. I get that damp iris a bit more on dry down. Its very aromatic and well blended with a strong, paper dry tobacco with not an ounce of sweetness to it. Smells incredibly old and decayed almost. Very lovely and quite a stand out.
- em inglês
An elderly centaur stuffing their pipe at a mate's funeral, the herd around breathing out little hay-flavored clouds in the chilly morning air. Shuffling of dozens of hooves among fallen leaves, orris root incense burning behind the last crying foal. Pale sunshine dawning upon a freshly dug grave, the dead and the living. Quiet equine dignity.
- em inglês
cold, waxy... cling-wrap salt, almost sweat-like. chic smoke break iris. something you'd spray on your jacket to keep you thinking rationally as you wait in the rain for your friends to finish their virginia slims. transitional scent, late summer-fall. very winter. too heavy for spring/high summer. blind bought and couldn't be happier
- em inglês
The smell of your beautiful corpse bride after you dig her up from her resting place near the stables of a mysterious gothic mansion, where she was buried under a bed of irises. Separately, it reminds me of the haylofts at my father's New England farmhouse. Very nostalgic, a little haunted, and strangely sexy. Absolutely love it.
- em inglês
Skin pressed to skin, creamy sweet and warm; a little dirty, but subtle and sensual like leaning into the heat of a secret whispered. Then dried down, becomes a bit more ghostly, a humid memory of dew and irises crushed into dirt, as you lay hazy beneath a mirage of sweet sepia light.
- em inglês
love after first spritz. the first taste of a lovers' sweat. beautifully human. commanding and cleansing. perfect for those who love a whiskey stained kiss. raunchy but sophisticated and, lucky for us smokers, it mingles well with the scent of cigarettes.
- em inglês
Закат. Пастух возвратился домой после жаркого дня на лугах. Пропитался запахом сена распадающегося в сотнях мокрых коровьих ртов. И земли. Cтоит на еще теплом, солнцем прогретым деревянном полу. С возвращением!

This reminds me of smoke sticking to your hair and clothes the morning after a night beside a campfire. There's a hint of salty sweatiness to it, too. Interesting and lovely.

The sour smoke of a lit cigarette, the suspended ash on the edge of crumbling, that must be flicked; a nylon handbag and taupe pantyhose; a ferocious defect in attitude mistaken for charisma—these all come to mind with Corpalium. In a fit of hysteria, she exits her back door and runs through the dry grass, throwing her kitten heels off, wiping her face as lipstick smears her cheeks. She spends some time alone in the woods, lights up another cigarette, and asks herself some serious questions. This smells like the "come to Jesus" moment for this protagonist (or antagonist?). She sits at the foot of a tree, opens her compact, begins to cry, her tears mingle with her rouge. She rummages through her makeup bag as the aroma of her cosmetics, their ionones and powdered detritus mingles with the mild forest air. Touching herself up seems hopeless and she pushes her feet into the falled oak leaves and pine straw, with particles embedding themselves into her tights. She stares into her Eve Lights cigarette box, getting lost in that ribbon of flowers and foliage illustrated along its margin, and wishes she could transport herself into its lush paradise. She lights yet another cig and after one large drag, makes smoke rings. She imagines them as black holes and she tries to jump into them like she is playing double dutch as a girl. She is tired of trying to be glamorous.

Nostalgic for me, not too horsey imo. My brother's first car was a white 50's Holden fb/ek... weird for a first car in the 90s... but anyway it was a cop magnet that he was very proud of. They would pull him over if he was speeding and end up just talking about the car without knowing the glovebox was usually loaded with all sorts of gear. This smells like the leather bench seats when they warmed up in the sun--a particular type of leathery aroma that I associate heavily with the 90s. But it's a feminine, floral-infused, lighter leather... No saddles, no new car, no soft gloves. The smell of 90s compacts and lipsticks, and a thick bouquet of florentine iris warming on the seat. I struggle to see it as gothic... I think of you by little annie on the weekend and Liebestraume no. 3 during the week... lovely on anyone but best on a dark-haired woman wearing Revlon lipstick. Edit: I can now smell a beautiful cigarette ash note that I'd missed before... falling in love with this one...

Like most Marlou perfumes I had quite a negative reaction to the scent when I smelled the bottle but gave it a chance on the skin. The result was surprising. After a couple of hours sitting on the skin it mellow down and transformed into a very masculine sensual scent. I wouldn’t call this a unisex perfume, this is a very masculine scent for my tastes. It’s animalistic, smoky, deep and rough. I smell tobacco, leather, smoke, cinder, fur, wood and sweat. Like going with the “bad boy” to the woods for a smoke, and making out among the moss and fallen branches, on top of his vintage leather jacket. This perfume is a whole experience for me and really makes my head spin. Loved it, but on a man.
- em inglês
Right after the drydown, Corpalium becomes a skin scent. I’m pretty sure that’s the point of the fragrance, but I do wish for a bit more projection. I really have to cram my nose into my wrist to smell this one... that being said, it’s damn good. Sweet maple (must be the fenugreek), raunchy castoreum, ambrette seed, and a dusting of dry tobacco are most prominent to my nose. This scent is very alluring. Like smelling the sweat of someone you have a crush on when you hug goodbye. Seems like a perfect fragrance to wear if you want to seem like you just smell attractive naturally.
- em inglês
The first few times I wore it the fenugreek was so intense it was hard to pick out anything else. Now I find it more like a dimly lit antique shop that rarely opens its windows. It reads as "food-y" to most people I've offered my wrist to, but the dusty, woody elements make it more of a "food location," like it's seeped into the heavy curtains at a (very good) hole-in-the-wall restaurant. There's a moistness to it that's like mildew but not in a bad way. It's interesting and not unpleasant. And as someone else said, goes great with cigarette smell :)
- em inglês
Corpalium is smoky, tobacco-tinged, and distinctly woody, with a subtle animalic edge. It feels dark and edgy, yet there’s also a fresh-spicy facet running through it, which I suspect comes from fenugreek. Within the discovery set, this was the one that wowed me the least; mainly because it carries a familiar character. That said, it may also be the easiest to wear of the bunch. Despite its edgy profile, it conveys an unexpected sense of calm. Overall, it’s well-balanced and genuinely pleasant. Tag(s): dark, edgy, smoky, fresh-spicy, calming!
- em inglês
This does have an unwashed hair aspect in the opening that reminds me of Jorum Studios’ Carduus, a straw aspect in the drydown that reminds me of Papillon’s Epona, and a dusty tobacco/orris combo that reminds me of Universal Flowering’s Purple Afternoon. It leans a little more masculine on me than I’m fully comfortable with, but I like it. As others have said, it’s definitely a skin scent that others may only smell when hugging you.
- em inglês
This perfume evokes vintage carpets in a 90s estate home—dusty, peppery and elegant floral. Think about a carpeted bedroom with sun filtering in, it's mid-afternoon and a sexy, refined middle-aged woman with matching lingerie and bottle-red hair walks towards you on the bed. You hope your father doesn't learn about you and his new girlfriend.
- em inglês
Black pepper and gunpowder, matte thick brown leather, nutmeg, animalic cumin. After 2 hours the notes of immortelle appear. Pleasant, spicy dry and arrousing warm scent, erotically female if she can pull it, otherwise rather masculine. Only pity is the weaker longevity and subtle projection.
- em inglês
Reminds me of walking through an old house that has been turned into a museum, used bookstores, antique shops, etc. A scent that is hard to describe with words; you just know it. Not sure I'd wear it as a perfume, but I appreciate it.
- em inglês
very herbal to me, almost toothpaste scent, can't pick up any animalistic note it's the only Marlou fragrance that doesn't smell too old-fashioned to me
- em inglês
A fossilized, transparent incense. Beautifully singed cedar pencil shavings, airy dried herbs and tobacco. It is not so animal to me as it is ancient.
- em inglês
Weird, dirty, feral furry animalic which is also bizarrely charismatic. Couldn't even detect the iris as my nose was so completely banjaxed by a scent with such a very serious presence of acrid, reeky fenugreek - AAAAARGH my kryptonite! - yet still it kept me snuffling away and almost-enjoying. Definite double-bubble effect, as sniffed from a distance - or getting an odd (very odd) waft of its freakish sillage it's almost ... seductive? - yet up close it's dark, bitter, almost-sweaty, almost-nasty, and still somehow consistently exciting and interesting, Not a smellalike by any means, but in terms of musky, pheromone-tastic scent magic it has some of that otherworldly filthy charm of Zoologist Hyrax or Prin Varuek. Rough and ready - for beastly action - but definitely not one for the newbies. Challenging like a snarling wild thing. For those who dare.
- em inglês
Corpalium's opening reminded me immediately of unwashed hair. It's at this point that there is some sort of projection. As it quickly dries down (after about 15 minutes) it loses its projection and the woody/earthy aspects become more prominent. I did notice Fenugreek, but it's very subdued and subtle. Corpalium took on less of a hair smell and more of a skin or body smell. Not body odor, just the earthy type of smell of someone at the end of the day not wearing any scented product. Corpalium is a curiosity - something that was interesting to sample but not something I'd bother with anymore. Guys looking for a skin/body scent type of fragrance would be better off with the Signature Royale line from Zaharoff (Signature Royale X, Royale XXX and Royale XXXL). They each offer more in a fragrance and emphasize slightly different accords.
- em inglês
I agree with the carpet comparison below but disagree on the specifics. Corpalium smells like the old carpet in a house that's seen a lot of home-cooked meals and the smell of the food sank into the fibers over the decades and now you're moving in and the whole house smells faintly but unignorably like this and even though you can imagine and don't begrudge the former owners of the good times that were had in the kitchen and around the dining room table, you're gonna need to replace the carpet. Maybe it's the fenugreek.
- em inglês
Smells a bit like an antique store in an old victorian house with lots of dried flowers in it. The "natural" smell here isn't very human smelling to me, more aging plant and old walls. It's by no means boring, but not for me. Only other Marlou I've smelled so far is Ambilux, and I see where it is more wearable for sure, but personally prefer the human aspect of Ambilux
- em inglês
this one is kinda nostalgic, smells like what a chalet in the snowy peaks during winter would, very woody, cedar mainly, smoky, with slight blond tobacco and incense undernotes, it's pleasing and cozy but not something I would wear personally
- em inglês
This prompts a totally unexpected childhood scent memory for me of opening up the kitchen cupboard at my grandma's house - must be the fenugreek? I also agree with the antique store comparison; there's something of old, dry wood to this.
- em inglês
Very nice and classy iris, although the opening is too medicinal/animalic for me.
- em inglês
Smoky, sweet, woody. Creates a cosy atmosphere like a fireplace in an old library with squeaky wooden floors, but I don’t like it, too much for me.
- em inglês
Like if you licked the nicotine that dripped down your grandpa's bathroom. The taxidermied elk judges you.
- em inglês
“Equine sensuality, straw and dried leaves” is right— this is 100% pure horse’s stable. Kind of fascinating that this scent is so perfectly replicated, but to what end? It’s a scent I always found nauseating as a kid and I don’t feel any differently now.
- em inglês
My my my! What a peculiar, but nevertheless pleasant, perfume. Doubtless like many of you reading this, what initially drew me to this scent was its proximity to Marlou's more abrasive options. Just like any well adjusted human being, I sometimes desire to smell like pee pee and poo poo. But when one finds oneself at the pee pee and poo poo store (in this case Marlou's website), looking for said pee pee and poo poo, its a common faux pas to ask: "Do you have anything that smells...good?" Such is an amateur request, as the typical reaction to such an inquiry is: "Buddy...look around you." But Marlou is not the average pee pee and poo poo purveyor. When I asked such a daring and verboten question, Marlou answered forcefully: "Corpalium". As I sit and type these words, I find myself with my bottle of Corpalium in hand. Spraying just one little bit... Let me see if I can penetrate these olfactory layers... Ah, no! Just one more spritz... still no, I cannot place it. What's another spray? Who could it hurt? Oh, heavens no, its been 6 sprays now... ten ... twenty! My hair is now wet, and sticking to my temples. What opens up with stark smoke and piercing iris, gives way to placid fields of dry hay and soothing medicinal herbs. With this scent, you will reach vertiginous heights, all while remaining grounded in the nurturing earthy soil. I cannot recommend this scent highly enough. Indulge me, please, while I share the story of when I first wore Corpalium in public. It was a Monday at work. I sprayed only a small amount of this delicious elixir as not to draw too much attention to myself. Still, my co-worker was drawn to me. And this is not just a figure of speech. He physically drew himself towards me, nestled his head into my collarbone, and took a deep and powerful inhale. Imagine my utter surprise, two self-respecting (heterosexual) males, finding themselves caught in such an intimate moment, and at work nonetheless. But what surprised me most is what came next. My co-worker kissed my neck! I will certainly be wearing Corpalium more often!
- em inglês
I was so excited to try this new range from Marlou, and was surprised by my response to Corpalium, which was the clear front-runner for me. Corpalium is completely wearable as a unisex fragrance, however, I think it leans slightly towards feminine. Newly applied, Corpalium is striking. I immediately get damp earth. Cold, wet roots of flowers exposed and cut into with a rusted spade, sending a clean orris note into the heavy air. Bodies stand in the rain, packed a little too tightly, and there is a faint smell of cigar smoke as someone brushes past in a thick, leather jacket. They smell like they work outside. Eventually, this passes, and the smell of compressed, slightly decaying, garden clippings emerges with the iris. There is a saline tang of sweat and spit - the night before not yet showered from your skin. What starts as something quite salacious, mellows after a few hours into a warm, cosy blanket of orris. The leather is still there, but this time it's the cover of an old book, creaking at its bindings, being read by a fire. The crisp smell of the pages giving off a grounding, woody note. I cannot rate this scent enough. Hoping to be able to purchase a full-size bottle too, I'm obsessed.
- em inglês
The wood bounces back and forth between floral nuances, brought by the irisy and sometimes violet notes, and the musk/animalic. Through this dynamic, the wood shifts: at times appearing dusty and rough-textured (when the musk wins the tug-of-war), and at others milky, a floaty cloud (when the florals reclaim the middle ground). I also get the image of an old abandoned house, very old, with a single sunbeam piercing through an oculus. Floating particles of dust come to life as they randomly cross the light, momentarily animated like tiny, wandering sparks. This feels like a modern perfume for all ages, best paired with your freshly thrifted leather jacket. Like this perfume, the old, vintage, dusty, greasy, rough leather jacket has been transformed into something very on-trend ; Santal 33esque (doesnt smell like Santal 33). As it dries, it settles into a more uniform, woody, pencily, cedar-y, shavings-y vibe. I liky.
- em inglês
I think this basically a soft intimate animalic accord of fenugreek (savory golden baked), tobacco (moist earthy dark brown), and ambrette (leathery sweet musky) played at soft volume and blended with synthetic woody amber for the most tasteful of modern fuzzy long-lasting effects. I sense iris in there too in the opening but it probably is just there to contribute to the smoothness and richness. It’s a simple enough concept, the skin idealized, but often flubbed with too much sweet or too much stonking woody amber. I am not absolutely dying for a bottle but I know I would wear it often if I should wind up with it. I WILL buy a Marlou FB but haven’t quite decided which yet. I really enjoy their scents. Edit: Corpalium is my favorite Marlou and I’m getting more and more into it with each wear. 4 out of 5.
- em inglês
Sexy. Straw, polished wood, dusty orris all reporting but this is first and foremost a tobacco on my wrist. Castoreum teases a little something dank but ends up more leathery than anything. It's cold, at first, as I find iris and orris often are-- somehow sort of forlorn and gray-- but fenugreek really opens up on me within the hour and takes us somewhere warm and subtly sweet. It toes the threshold of the kitchen from time to time but never overwhelms in my experience. Well balanced, if threateningly balanced, and again, sexy. Certainly somewhat stranger than your standard fare but I have a hard time imagining this as offensive. If I find this in someone's hug I'll be lingering there just a little too long.
- em inglês
This is a friendly kind of animalic; intimate, nostalgic, and quietly complex. It immediately transports me back to my grandfather’s study, where the air carried the comforting scent of his freshly lit pipe mingling with worn leather chairs and old books. Corpalium has that same lived-in warmth earthy, smoky, and slightly musky, yet softened by something human and familiar. It’s refined but never pretentious. I love this one deeply. It feels personal, and timeless. the kind of scent that lingers in the air and in the soul. Definitely lotion-worthy. I’ll be ordering two bottles, enough to make a 25 fl oz custom body lotion. Just in time to be fully macerated for the crisp days of fall.
- em inglês
a leather-dominant fragrance to my nose. i get only the barest hint of iris or animal. this is cold, urban, almost plasticine leather, supported by pleasantly warm tobacco, a wad of toothpaste spit, and a waft of ashy smoke. to me, this is a boyish scent, with a character that is intelligent and energetic but also spiky and obviously immature. smells like an interesting, maybe even alluring encounter in the right moment under the low lights and the gently altered states of a night out, that becomes off-putting and even painful in the plain morning light. still, there's a certain maladjusted spunk you can't help but admire. i'll have to revisit this one later
- em inglês
Smells like the rarity of a kind, grown man. One that doesn’t fall for the frills of perceived success or superiority and is content by simply being the pillar of those around him. Not too many words, a warm embrace, strong hands, and a neat small cottage in the countryside where he lives by himself. He’s always ready to be of help and he spends his days between caring for horses and carpentry. It’s healthy masculinity in a bottle, but it can also easily be pulled off by a woman. Corpalium will immediately add depth to anyone’s allure, that’s for sure.
- em inglês
Subtle orris theme throughout an odd experience of hay-like tobacco, smoky woods, and finally an intensely spicy and somewhat bitter fenugreek with occasional whiffs of its syrupy sweetness. This is very unique and I appreciate the straightforward dusty and intense nature to it, but I can't handle the intensity of the fenugreek, it's very spicy here and I even find its sweet side unpleasant.
