White Lilac

This smells like white lilacs but lilac flowers that have been super concentrated into a perfume. It has the same white smell, not purple, white. This blooms on the skin like a translucent halo. I feel on my head is a crown of white lilacs.This is a perfume that makes me feel I am living in another time, another place. A past that I have never experienced but wished I had. There is such a porcelain white feeling in this perfume I have never encountered before. Green, but not sharp, extremely white but doesn't smell like jasmine, a soft spiciness that is felt like a gentle first kiss just barely brushed against the lips. Passion restrained out of necessity, but still there, embarrassed or to composed to guarded to completely express itself. This composition is supported by a gentle muskiness that doesn't seem out of place but rather goes with the mood of innocence that this perfume creates. A fragrance of a bygone era, white dresses and gloves. Lace umbrellas to shade delicate skin from the sun. A stroll through a well kept lilac garden but only those that are as white as snow. Breathtakingly beautiful.

Lilac scents done well is like searching for a unicorn. It needs to be sweet and heady but not too much, and not watery and anemic either. If your persuit has you chasing the lilac note, I highly recommend the trouble to go vintage. Vintage has a richness needed for this flower as well as gardenia. Mary Chess white lilac is the goldilocks of a lilac soliflore. Its straight, unapplogetic lilac. Patou Vacances and the heart of Parure by Guerlain seem to possess the best lilac notes in my opinion. There’s a big difference between purple lilac and white lilac, if you have them in your garden you know what I’m talking about. True to its name, White Lilac is a realistic white lilac in full bloom, it even has that sharp, bright, green note. With a gentle musk in the dry down, this is quite stunning. Leans femme and vintage, a perfume of a bygone era.

Utterly in love. Vintage nips smell like they were made today. Fresh, crushed lilacs with some musk to deepen it. Sweet, heady and perfect for spring. This is a LOVE for me. Any lover of true florals should try this. One of the best lilacs made.In the final drydown it becomes a floral aldehyde.

An old fashioned perfume. A heavy, sweet floral scent. Lovely, but also it's got a touch of that bouquet on the second day, oil distilled, drenching the room floral scent. I'm glad for having the experience of it, but I'd consider this one a bit too Downton Abbey to wear myself.

I love this fragrance, it’s a very realistic lilac. It reminds me very much of a fragrance that is not in Fragrantica data base, Jasmine&Magnolia from Essence Vault, but that one has an ozonic note and it’s more fresh while this one is sweeter. I love them both.

Like Stacia79, I have fun with my box of vintage nips. I pick one at random, and I give it a try. When I saw that the random nip of the day was White Lilac, I was a little disappointed at first. I don't wear lilac perfumes and I don't plant them in my garden. On the other hand, It can be lovely to walk by a lilac bush in full bloom and be surrounded by their sweet floral fug. So, onward with my sampling game, only to be pleasantly surprised and impressed by White Lilac. How can a 50 year old scent smell so fresh and alive? The lilacs are blooming right here in my bedroom, in late November. And if we can believe Wikipedia, Grace Mary Chess Robinson was an interesting early perfumer who began making her own scents using natural ingredients in the 1930's. White Lilac was her first perfume. If you really like lilacs, you might enjoy a vintage bottle of this.

I would be happy to write a review of Mary Chess White Lilac. I had a vintage nip of this (probably from the mid-50s) and no, I don't save vintage like a wine snob bragging about his cellar but never drinking from it. Perfume is meant to be worn and enjoyed! Unlike many vintages, this went on without any of those musty top notes that usually haunt the first 15 minutes of vintage. Right from the start it was FRESH floral, a very realistic lilac, straight out of springtime. It could have been something I sprayed off the shelf at my local Sephora, but it possesses that sort of generous oomph that many of today's florals seem to lack. I love how women of that era were not concerned with smelling "office appropriate". This is a heady lilac with the guts to be a WOMAN! The lasting power is great....used the tiny sample 10 hours ago and it is just now fading.

Probably the most realistic lilac I've ever smelled. (Second would be Pacifica French Lilac.) It's also rather powerful for a lilac scent, which I found surprising because the my flacon is labeled "toilet water," which I assume is the same as eau de toilette. I wonder how strong the cologne or parfum would be? I agree with Stacia79 that, for a vintage scent, White Lilac has none of the stale mustiness that many of them seem to exhibit. I'm not sure how old my bottle is, but it's part of a gift set containing several other MC scents. I'm thinking 1960s-1970s. All the floral fragrances in the set (Carnation, White Lilac, Gardenia) smell fresh and new. The three more oriental/chypre ones (Yram, Tapestry, Strategy) smell mustier, but it may just be that some of the notes used back then don't sit well with modern noses.

I recently acquired a bottle of Aerin’s Lilac Path and now I KNOW perfume collecting is my addiction because I already own this and it’s better and less expensive than Lilac Path. Not that Lilac Path is bad. It’s just a digital photo of a lilac as opposed to a painting of a lilac. And now I’m wondering why I bought it. The LOTV period of this can be a bit potent for me sometimes. But overall this is gorgeous. Pure early spring in a bottle. @ceilstrakna12 is dead right that the Mary Chess florals read more present day and the others can read a bit ‘time traveler’ — as a witty vintage collector once said to me. POTENT. One teeny splash on the wrist fills the room for hours. I have two toilet water bottles — one from the 60s and one from the 40s and they smell the same. Her scents seem remarkably shelf stable.

I smell like I got in a fight with a lilac bush and lost. The first time I tried this, in a 1950s nip, it smelled exactly like a lilac bush. I liked the scent so much, that I bought a 1970s bottle of the "eu de toilette". I don't know if its the reformation, or the perfume has just gone a little bad. The 1970s version has a much stronger "grassy" note. It's SO STRONG and LONG LASTING, I open the bottle and it's like I've released the kraken, the whole room smells like lilac bushes and acres of freshly mowed grass.

Just got my vintage bottle today. Put two dabs on my wrist and wow! This is the most intense lilac I have ever smelled, as Ms. Mink said, like releasing the Kraken. I had Sha by Alfred Sung and it is lilac but nothing like this. Could be more close to edp.? The scent stayed strong as when I applied it. No negative comment from me! I don't know if it is a reformulation or not, I Got Lilacs!! Very, very nostalgic, love it!
