Mat Chocolat

Its a bit of a surprising scent. I normally have trouble with dry cacao note as well as with finding true realistic chocolate (chocolatey patchouli smells very off on my skin). I tried Mat Chocolate in store with quite a bias- low price and negative reviews plus my own unsuccessful tries with chocolate scents- to say I was cautions would be understatement. But it really hooked me- though initially a bit messy, it revealed an image of Kahlua, Finnish coffee liqueur, and developed into a clear natural milk chocolate accord, but in a way you have in chocolate candies filled with Finlandia vodka, in a slightly boozy way. Plus its quite musky and airy, not very sugary at all, and has a distant fruity touch.. all in all its a weird scent, but whilst I understand the negative reviews, it works on me really well. The milk choco note is realistic, not on the dark side (I normally prefer dark choco in desserts) and its radiating and not overwhelming having some added bonus of a nice trail. Interesting aspect- I first tried it in hot summer weather and it evaporated quickly, though now in cooler autumn air it wafts around me for hours, and most importantly- the choco stays all the way to the dry-down...... I enjoyed the shop try, purchased and wore off then a 5 ml decant and finally now, have bought a full bottle to wear in mild autumn and spring time when it seams to shine. Which proves- no two chemistries and noses are alike, what doesn't suit one, may be a fantastic find for another :)

It's nice! Not FBW, but definitely lovely. On someone else this is probably superb. My skin has a habit of amplifying two things: any level of screech, any level of sweetness. The amplified sweetness and my challenges with wearing cocoa (natural or synthetic) means this isn't wearable for me. This perfume smells very natural and the sandalwood and watermelon give it a lovely watery impression. It dries down into a beautiful, delicate floral - which on its own is quite unique to any on the market that I have smelled in quite a long time. The cultural influences are apparent and makes it very unique to come across in the US where we seem to favor strong fruity-florals with a sythetic edge and often ambroxan or wood-aroma molecules in the base. This makes a lot of aromas very similar both in structure and impression. Chocolat Mat is such a refreshing change! The pyramid is confused here: base first, then top, followed by heart, long into the dry-down. I would be completely in love, the watermelon is so beautiful here, but my skin just can't do the chocolate note. It's definitely worth trying. It's delicate, feminine, and alluring in a not-overtly-sexual type of way.

What a really nice surprise! I came across this at TJ Maxx and I had to try it. I was a little concerned at first about watermelon and chocolate in the same scent, but it works! It's hard to believe this is just fruits and chocolate because it almost dries down a little floral, but it's the watermelon/grapefruit combo at work, I think. Makes it a little sweet but not too much. This is more of a skin scent, it doesn't project a great deal but I've been able to smell it on myself all day. Okay so I have re-applied THREE times so far...but that's only because I really love it! This is a semi-sweet chocolate, not too spicy, although the sandalwood is there and just serves to anchor this nicely. I'm LOVING the coconut. Oh my gosh, this is reminding me of a Mounds bar. Y.U.M. I've been wanting to acquire a (discontinued) Body Shop Chocomania fragrance (I already do have the lotion and shower gel) and this Chocolat smells very, very similar (so maybe I don't need to hunt it down now!). This would be amazing to layer over Angel Muse or any other scent that is chocolate dominant. This is a love!!

The dry down on this is fantastic. I normally do NOT like any type of overt chocolate fragrance but I read such good reviews I decided to give this a shot. When I first sprayed it, it was a BLAST of chocolate and I thought this is ridiculous and is going back. Then sometime in the next 15-30 minutes, something magical happens. The chocolate fades into the background leaving only a trace (thank goodness) and it becomes the most beautiful, sensual, almost hypnotic and delicious fragrance. I kept smelling my wrist every few minutes because I could not get enough. Not too sweet, not too chocolatey, not too sexy...but sensual, not too fruity...but you can't miss the black currant, not too girly...but feminine. Yet somehow this would work on a man. It is classified as a floral but I am not getting ANY flowers. I could try to describe the notes but it really wouldn't do it justice and everybody smells something different anyway. This is really a unique fragrance (or it was when it was released in 2005).

I bought this as a blind buy off of ebay despite some of these negative reviews and let me just say that I am so HAPPY that I did! I have only tested it once as I just got it today so I will update later on further use. I can already say that this is love for me! It's not complicated it's rich, melted, gooey milk chocolate on my skin! For valentines day I made my boyfriend treats with melted chocolate and they smelled exactly like this! I do not get anything synthetic and I agree that the sillage is not very good but this is something I wanted as a personal scent anyways for the enjoyment of my boyfriend only. I cannot WAIT to wear it for him :) EDIT: I find myself spraying this on my wrists all of the time! It is so mouthwatering! I can now pick up the watermelon note, chocolate covered watermelon, and I can do it without feeling like a fat kid! I need to stop using it for no reason or I will be out of it before I know it!

Gorgeous well balanced chocolate floral. The gourmand nature is definitely there but it's tempered by the floral, watermelon, and citrus notes. Others mention the lack of longevity. I find that base white musk used is one for which many people are anosmic so this may be the case because I found it to be quite long lasting. I sprayed a bit of it on while standing in line at a TJ Maxx, decided against purchasing it, and left the store. I ended up doubling back 20 minutes later because the sprayed area was so phenomenal. The first 10-15 minutes are all about this boozy Kahlua like accord Finally, the dry down is a refreshing unisex white musk with a chocolate undertone. I'm happy that I picked it up. The bottle was 2.5 oz and was on clearance for just $8. At that price, I don't mind treating like a great smelling chocolate body spray instead of the EDP that it purports to be.

Blowing out the candles from my cake I choke on the smoke as I look around the room" That's exactly how this perfume smells like. It's from beginning to the very end DARK chocolate. Not the kind of milky chocolate, sweet, fluffy and comforting. No. The blackest of black ones. After the initial chocolate accord I can smell something like smoke(musk?) mixed with tea and a hint of something rose-ish. Not bad, not bad at all it's just not very complex and developing. Instead quite plain and warm if you don't mind strong, dusty chocolate note.

for me, chocolat mat was a godsend; chocolate-y, but not too literal. when people comment that i smell gorgeous, i tell them it's chocolate & THEN they can tell. i never, ever (in 2 bottles) got any fruit whatsoever. all i get, from start to finish is dark chocolate (not synthetic at all) with musk & sandalwood. it's gourmand without being sickening. it really is worth at least a sample if you are a chocolate or gourmand afficionado. lasting power is decent, and the bottle is pretty cool, too.

I love this fragrance. It is completely chocolate. Simple and minimalistic. Unfortunately, it doesn't linger very long. The good news is that you can never spray too much, but the bad news is that a bottle will not last very long. I use it occasionally, but I would love to use it every day. Update: It's all gone, and I already miss it. :(

I love it !!! Initially chocolaty and sweet, but not overloaded, continuing with an almost floral vainillian combination; with a decent longevity, sillage moderate, the drydown is very similar to an Argentinian fragrance called "Absolute Vanilla", from Universo Garden Angels. Delicious!!!

Light, airy chocolate. Not a gourmand. Top notes are strange, dry down is better. If you get a deal it's good for olfactory education.

If you like this frag, yay for that. But I don't... This smells like a chocolate liqueur, that has gone bad. OMG stay away. I honestly have to wash my waist. Outside of that...it's a weak sauce at best frag. And if a person walked up to me, while wearing this... I'd stick a piece of mint gum in my mouth and while drinking ice cold water, just trying not to say "get back!". SMFH, no no no...god no. Skip this frag. I would never have sought this out since I am not lover of "gourmand" scents, but the body lotion was on sale very cheaply at Marshalls and, after rushing home to check Fragrantica, I bought it out of curiosity. The chocolate hit first and it is nice and dark, not sweet at all. Then it recedes a bit and the florals start swirling around. The chocolate remains in the background, but considerably softened. After a while it re-emerges as the florals die back. I can't pick out any distinct floral notes and I don't sense the fruit at all, but in total it is a pleasant experience. I would not have thought it, because,fruit, flowers and chocolate sounds like a table setting, but somehow they merge into something that is actually enjoyable as a scent. On my skin it seems to last as at least a skin scent for more than eight hours.

I purchased this fragrance during my search for Chocolate based scents, and it's actually a pretty interesting take on a chocolate fragrance without being totally gourmand. Upon first spray I get a big whiff of cocoa powder, dark rich dry cocoa powder. Then the mid brings in a watery-effect which I wonder if is contributed by the rose & watermelon accord. It actually works, but this watery-effect is what makes this chocolate less of a gourmand. The rose must be what is keeping this from smelling edible. So yes, to me this is an unedible chocolate, haha. Very intersting chocolate frag, I like it. It's different, unique, and innovative. Chocolate +Rose +Watermelon = Dark Cocoa powder with a watery-effect.

I just got this huge bottle at TJMaxx for $10. Completely worth it for me. I usually don't buy blind, but I have another of his fragrances and it was really good for me. This is a happy surprise. When I first sprayed it the rush of cocoa was strong but then in a few min on me the musk and sandalwood started coming upfront making the cocoa barely detectable. This isn't sweet or cloying like most gourmand perfumes. It actually smells kind of powdery which is odd since no one has mentioned that. A strange but wonderful scent. I think its a keeper!

This smells a lot like a Tootsie Rolls candy merging into Bvlgari Blv Notte pour femme minus the ginger note . Fresh clean lightly sweet with a soft chocolate note wafting in and out. The edp was $6.99 at TJMAXX and the lotion was $4.99 ( haven't opened the lotion yet but it should hopefully boost longevity) . It brought a smile to my face when I tried it. So far this company is two for two for nice ,pleasant,wearable fragrances. I'll have to try more from them.

It's a pleasant fruity chocolate fragrance to me. I think it smells a lot like when you open a box of cherry cordials. All the fruit notes blend together to me into an impression of cherries. Projection and longevity is fairly poor, which is too bad because it's one of the few gourmand fragrances I really enjoy wearing. But, it's inexpensive, so I don't mind applying it generously

Too much chocolate for me to wear by itself, but when I layer it, like over angel or even obsession.. OMG its good.. I going to have lots of fun layering this over different gourmond scents!! I dont get the fruit or floral notes but maybe I'm not wearing it long enough by itself

A fun and pleasant gourmand that unfortunately has zero lasting power - not even when sprayed on clothing... I like it so much though and I don’t have any chocolate scents - so I do not regret! (Price was very reasonable!)

I've been searching for a replacement chocolate perfume for my beloved La Perla Dark Extacy and this is NOT it. Boring, wimpy, no real depth. I'll pass. I guess the search continues.

Smells pretty much like Bailey's that's why I loved it :)) BUT the lasting power is extremely weak (about 30 min) so I won't buy again. Still it is good as aromatherapy.

I just received my order of this in the mail and kind of wish I hadn't wasted my money on it. I don't suggest blind buying it, it smells very generic and run of the mill bland smell. I dont even smell chocolate it just smells weak and medicinal. I am reading about how it smells like fruit and chocolate on other people, it might be my chemistry I need pretty strong scents to even have an effect, but none of the different edible smells are coming through, i might as well have dosed myself with detergent. I dont think I will even use this very much, kind of a waste of money for me. I am going to try and find a stronger, better made chocolate perfume. Too bad, was so excited for it. Man. I wonder what other people are smelling. I am reading these exciting reviews about how a magical chocolate burst happens. Chocolate????? No where to be found. Smells like nail polish on me. So weird.I keep waiting for maybe the dry down to create a new smell. Alas, i was waiting for a "ta dah!" here I am coco moment, but no. No mas, A smell harkening to urinal cakes maybe. Just on me though, so who knows. everyone is differet

More often than not I love fragrances with tart fruits and chocolate. Mat Chocolat has both, but unfortunately, I don't like it too much. In the beginning, the chocolate note is strong - but I wouldn't call it cacao or dark chocolate like the notes suggest, it's more like sweet milk chocolate mixed with light coconut and melon. And then it developes to something weird and unpleasant on my skin. I never had problems with black currant notes, but this one turns a little stinky on me. Also, the chocolate reminds me of a rancid cheap easter bunny at this point - yuck! It just seems like the chocolate and the tart fruity notes aren't well blended, it smells messy. The drydown after an hour or more gets better, but is more of a sweet fruity/floral musk with just a hint of chocolate. Pleasant enough, but not worth the wait. My sample is a few years old, back then I liked it better for some reason. Either my taste or chemistry has changed a bit, or this doesn't age well. It doesn't smell like a turned perfume though, and it was always light milk chocolate and fruity notes to me, never anything dark.

This was a blind buy and a major mistake. Upon first spray, I got an initial burst of sharp ethanol. Few seconds later, a mellow chocolate set in, then a wave of fruity ozonic melon underscored by some black currant notes. But then, in 4-5 minutes, the scent develops into a salty, gamey, animalic muskiness that reminds me a bit of wet dog smell. Could it be the black currant? I couldn't describe the stinkiness. I have a bottle of this 100ml I'm willing to sell anyone at a steal if they want. Message if you want!

I just want to write a review to offset the fabulous reviews because those fabulous reviews prompted me to buy this. I can tell you this scent is nothing earth shattering. While the aroma is not unpleasant, The spray feels clean and fresh and similar to chocolate cooking extract If you were considering to try this scent, I say skip it and use your money toward something better or save a few bucks and buy mine off me

This fragrance really smells chocolate. But just chocolate. Like its name. Too simple. I decided that I will better go on crying that more complex like a chocolate tart Devils Food by Demeter is not long-lasting at all and wait for something complex with noticeable chocolate and long-lasting. But if you need just chocolate - try this one.

I get an initial burst of chemical cocoa, then 10 minutes in, the show is over. Seriously. Nothing. Nada. I don't know if I've ever had a perfume last as poorly. I'll try again in the heat of summer, but so far this is a definite dislike for me. It's pointless, and what I do smell, I don't like.

This is weak...at least in dabber form. I sprayed it on 10 minutes ago and can barely smell it work my nose shoved up to my skin. The fruity opening seemed weird to me. The chocolate scent is simple and thin with a hint of musk.

Chocolate...ok, good so far. Then Hubba Bubba Watermelon gum. Far too much watermelon + citrus. My skin must amp it. I don't really get chocolate other than the very initial spray. Weird. This is going back.

It starts off as a promising chocolate scent but then fades away so quickly. The heart and base notes are also only sweet mumble-jumble and not necessarily chocolate anymore.

To my nose, just being honest here, everyone has their own experience, view point, chemistry... this smells like sweaty feet. Sweaty feet with a hint of melon. No chocolate or anything at all that I could get used to or learn to like. Just straight up like dirty feet stomping unripe melon to make... uh, melon beer? Oh, maybe I smell some yeast or something too... possibly fungus? Ugh, another blind buy fail! P.S. I would class this as Unisex/AnySex/NoSex because this scent on me is not sexy, it smells more like a medical problem.

But Spray.That's it. That's all I get.

First of all, the bottle is stunning: minimalist, contemporary and simple, lean--a craftsman style cottage filled with post-modern decor...Eames crafted of dark wood. The opaque glass keeps the fragrance fresh, and the swirls of chocolate brown are so rich and unique. I love how the Matsushima bottles were created to fit into one another like puzzle pieces, and that there is no cheap metal cap to collect dust and oxidize over time. I bought this in 2005, and it's just as fresh now as it was then. If you can find this for 10.00, grab it! The first time I sampled Mat Chocolat, I didn't even wait for the dry down, I purchased it on the spot. I used to be very fond of chocolate fragrances (Comptoir Amor de Cacao being a favorite back then), but tired of smelling like a bakery. Overtly foodie scents began to seem too immature, too 'cutesy' for me--I'd OD'd on Pink Sugar and Serendipity--so I graduated to the sweet line by CdG, then ditched all of them except this one. I tend to leave the sweets to the tummy and the room fragrances now. Although the lasting power is nil, I still really like MC. The reason I never loved it, why it never became a signature, is that initial 'department store' vibe, as stated by HeidiLynn. It's the over-used top notes that hint of the celebrity fragrance ilk, and are also ubiquitous in so many designer fragrances, that give this a 'bite' and slightly override the uniqueness. MC is nearly half one type of fragrance and half another. Thankfully, they didn't try to squeeze in a vanilla accord here, and I think that a darker floral, e.g. orchid or lily, would've been less confusing. The grapefruit and watermelon notes seem superfluous and like an afterthought: they're sort of lost. However, MC wouldn't be what it is without all of the present notes, right? I suppose it's down to body chemistry, but I don't get the linear chocolate that others claim to experience. Far from it. This is not, I repeat, NOT a chocolatey dessert/gourmand scent, as the name would lead us to believe. Nothing like the Demeters, etc. No brownies here! Initially, chocolate-dipped fruit with a hint of dusty rose, which morphs into a sweetly pretty, woodsy warmth w/o a cloying sugary smack, which is a good thing. The sandalwood visits in the dry down, as does the musk, and the fruity-floral takes a backseat, allowing the warm, wonderful aromatherapeutic aspects of the cacao and sandalwood to glow. A definite feel-good scent. Oh, and if you decide to blind-buy other Matsushima scents based on this one, don't. Sample first! I've tried them all, and they're rather linear, fresh, fruity or aquatic/ozonic fragrances. Nice, but nothing like MC, and nothing terribly unique.

Mat Chocolate is *so close* to being the perfect chocolate fragrance but unfortunately it just barely misses. I love eating chocolate and I love the smell of it, but actually wearing chocolate-forward fragrances is tricky because I find most of them to be very heavy and smothering. There's also an unfortunate association with that "generic chocolate" note that you smell in all sorts of cheap chocolate-scented products like lotions and lip balms. Mat Chocolate smells richly of chocolate but has just enough airiness and openness to not feel like you're drowning in a vat of chocolate syrup. The problem is that it loses this quality on skin very quickly. It's not that it smells chocolatey on skin for 30 minutes and disappears -- it's more that it smells chocolatey for 10 minutes and then flattens out in a weird way, like Hershey's syrup mixed into a glass of flat Dr. Pepper. After 20 minutes all you can smell is a weak shampoo-like scent with no chocolate. It's unusual that the fragrance performs this way considering it's an EDP. This was so close to being a perfect chocolate fragrance, but the lackluster performance and weird development on skin misses the mark for me. Oh well!

At first it's one of the best scents I've ever experienced, with chocolate and hazelnut qualities (and a touch of powdery rose to soften and add complexity), but it quiets down rather quickly. After 1-2 hours, I sprayed three more times to the spot I had sprayed twice (to the chest). Since I wasn't going out, I kept my shirt open to see if that would help. I was then able to detect what I thought was melon, but not much else. There might have been the barest hint of sandalwood and coconut, but at this point I'm thinking that if it was sold at 5 dollars per gallon it might be worth the purchase. So, if you want a very light gourmand, this is one to consider. Otherwise, I don't see much value here, though if you're wealthy I guess you could buy out the stock at the local store and that should last you a little while. I think that layering this above another gourmand might be the way to go, so after another hour or so I did that with a spray of Jacomo Rouge. This seems to help a little, but I'm still surprised at how weak this scent is!

This perfume doesn't know what it wants to be. Spritzed on a tissue, or smelled from the top, it seems like an innocuous, pure lightly floral musk with a hint of dark cocoa powder. The style seems to have that "commercial perfume base" accord (I don't know how else to describe it--like a department store, and tissue paper in a shirt box....). Once it is actually on my skin, it vascillates between a floral musk with a hint of earthiness; and a sweet chocolate with a hint of musk. I generally like musks, but this didn't work well with the chocolate note--it never seemed to really blend. I'm not a fan of gourmands, but think that a typical gourmand-lover would not find this to be sweet enough, as the flowers kept kind of getting in the way rather than complementing the chocolate. The whole composition didn't flow well, didn't have harmony, and was therefore not appealing to me. It lasted on me about 3 hours, and projection was modest. This is one of the few perfumes I've seen given a %; my bottle says "80%".

You don't know what you've got 'til it's gone. By this, I mean you will enjoy the single hour this lasts on your skin, and then you will miss it profusely when it inevitably fades away. Chocolat Mat is a true showstopper, but only for a little while. Sweet, modern powdery notes blend softly with semi-sweet chocolate notes to make a truly delightful frag- I like to wear it as a bedtime scent or over other gourmand favorites (Try it over Tom Ford's Black Orchid or Gaultier Natural Spray). The silage is only okay. Truly, this is one of those perfumes you buy for your own pleasure, but I think it's definitely worth buying for the price. I got a 1.7oz bottle for 15 dollars and enjoy it almost every day. Also, it's a great perfume if you want to wear it in the morning but not the rest of the day. It will wear off by the time you want to switch frags for eveningtime! Also, the cool bottle is definitely a plus if you display your collection.

I had huge hopes for Mat Chocolate. Based on the notes, I figured this would either be a resounding wonder or a flop on me. Sadly: flop. Please bear in mind that this review is based on what my chemistry does with this scent. On you, it may be ambrosia. But on me the citrus opening is muddied, grapefruit and currant combine in a weird slurry to give the early drydown a bilious aspect. It's even a little vomit-y at this point, the sharp tang of throwup in the background. The vomit part passes pretty fast, thankfully, but then when the chocolate comes in it doesn't make up for how bad the opening is. The chocolate here tries too hard to be literal, and ends up smelling plastic-y. I get the same sort of fake chocolate that you have in little kids' chocolate scented lip balms. Not something one wants in a grown up fragrance. This then is layered on top of the base of sandalwood, and the whole thing is just a jumbled shrill mess.

Yeah, I really like this one. The combination of sandalwood, coconut, cocoa, and musk is so beautiful. Its overall vibe is creamy, milky, cozy and casual. The chocolate/cocoa is strongest for the first 10 to 15 mins then tones down and blends with the other notes and there is a hit of fruity sweetness to it. It's not too heavy though - I'd think of chocolate as a fragrance to be reserved for colder weather but this one works well even in fall time and on warmer days. It was sunny and just below 70 degrees yesterday and I thought it worked well. It can be found very cheaply which is a bonus - I got mine at Marshall's for $13. Edit: This is what I imagined Choco Musk by Al-Rehab might smell like before I smelled it - Choco Musk (roll on oil) dries down really plastic on my skin and the cocoa note is fairly fleeting. I really prefer Mat Chocolate - it's chocolatey but not overkill.

I'm really not into gourmand scents. This one is nice. It doesn't last long. At all. It's great for layering. I occasionally put a few sprays over top a nice tubereuse Parfüme. You know to change it up a bit from time to time. However, I noticed that the same issue with the posters is longevity. Perhaps layering it with another fragrance. After I put hair oil in my hair I spray my hair brush with it and brush my hair immediately. It lasts most of the day. Doing it this way adds a nice Coco scent to my hair and a nice touch to whatever scent I'm wearing from the neck down. For instance if I'm wearing a rose clove perfume, I'll add a bit of this in my hair. Nice combo for the winter. But, only draw back is my hubby wants to eat me. As far as longevity, the matching scented lotion helps with that.

I bought this as a blind buy, because I was able to get it for a really good price. I’m glad I did – it’s rather lovely. I was a bit worried when I first sprayed it on, because it smelt like the chocolate syrup we used to get growing up (Nestle). Thankfully that settles fairly quickly once it dries down. The chocolate and cacao starts to come out, and yes, the blackcurrant is there as well – unusual but intriguing. Normally I’m not a fan of fragrances with a watermelon note, but thankfully, in this, it’s very faint, and it melds in well with the rose. I get the sandalwood very faintly – on me, this does smell chocolatey and yummy and I've had a few positive comments on it. Sillage is decent, but sadly, the longevity isn’t great – barely four hours, five if I’m lucky.

Iwould like to introduce the most underrated EDP in the world : Mat Chocolate. I was on a chocolate perfumes kick and was able to score this for 10$ !! I sprayed it once, found it to be a syrupy pure chocolate scent, and moved on. A few months later I decided I would like to start using it up.. so I sprayed alot..the begining is the same as before, but it slowly morphed into a warm beautiful very calm very wearable cashmere scent. The longevity is actually decent, and I have a skin that eats up most long wearing perfumes...this is a beautiful EDP that I feel bad it was 10$ and I plan on getting a back up of it. Update: its been 6 hours since I sprayed it directly on my skin that eats up almost any perfume, yet I can smell it clearly, its beautiful !!

PLEASE save your money and buy Choco Musk oil ($5.00 on fleabay) or Chocolate Crave (also an oil but in spray form, about $30.00) if you want a delicious chocolate fragrance that stays chocolatey and lasts and lasts and lasts. Even at $9.99 today at TJ's, this just isn't enough chocolate for someone who loves it. And what little there is just doesn't last. For the first 5-10 minutes, yes, there's a lovely (but somewhat dusty) milk chocolate but then -POOF!- it's gone. For the next couple of hours a very ordinary musk hangs around and then it, too, goes POOF! and disappears. If it lasts and smells wonderful on some of you, by all means wear it proudly. I'm jealous.

I don't like fake smelling chocolate perfumes, but I'm always on a hunt to find a good rich chocolate scent. I had high hopes for this one, and the one thing in it's favor is that it was not fake-smelling. In fact, it barely smelled like anything at all. I had to hold my wrist up to my face and sniff hard to even get a tiny whiff of it. It was reminiscent of possibly having used a lightly scented chocolate shower gel hours before and this is all that was left. 20 minutes in, it was gone entirely. Just a tiny hint in the beginning of chocolate and bit of musk---pleasant, but fleeting. And this was after applying it 3 times. Oh well, back to the drawing board!

This perfume has three distinct phases. First is definitely that Kahlua/Bailey's phase -- yummy but very boozy, so much so that if it kept smelling like that, I wouldn't wear it to work. The second phase is not so good: very much chocolate Greek yogurt, kind of sour. It's almost as bad as when my kids used to drink from sippy cups, and once in a while I'd find an old one under the sofa containing spoiled chocolate milk. Then the final phase is very nice, definitely the best, like cocoa butter. It smells identical to this shower gel I used to have, with a long name: Queen Helene Naturals Organic Fair Trade Certified Cocoa Butter Body Wash.

While at TJ's I happen to see a huge bottle for $9.99 so I grabbed it. A wonderful spent $9.99 if you ask me. I do not have a single chocolate fragrance and this is really neat. I did have Choco musk oil but I love this more. At first strong choco blast. I was asking myself do I really want to smell like chocolate? Of course it's Easter weekend yeah I do want to smell like chocolate. So after about 15 min the choco calms down and there is a nice musk remaining. This is a close to the body scent but a very fun one. I'm glad got it and I will definitely enjoy the novelty of this one.

Starts off with cacao & hazelnut, gourmand but not too sweet. About 10 minutes in, a sharp, rotten, ozonic melon develops, but quickly recedes. Finally, after another 10-15 minutes, it dries down to a mild, soapy musk with a hint of vanillic sweetness that's not identifiably chocolate. The middle part is truly awful, but short-lived and without much projection, as is the entire fragrance experience. It could be used as a body spray, if you can get past that brief sour middle.

PROS: First spray emitted a lovely cocoa and melony scent and then dried down to a lovely sandalwood, coconut and musk. Smells wonderful and put me in a good mood. I am a gourmand lover and gravitate towards all things cocoa. Not bad for $12.00 bucks for a huge bottle from TJ Maxx. CONS: Scent is fleeting and last for about an hour on me. I tried spraying it on my clothing hoping for more sillage but that was a bust. BOOOOOOO!!!! Will not repurchase.

Bought Chocolat today at TJMaxx after an extreme markdown. It's interesting and more 'present' than I anticipated. I like the way the citrus plays with the chocolate, leaving an antiseptic, cleaning product whiff. While that sounds terrible, the perfume is actually quite playful. Menthol is not listed, but on my skin, this note peeks out from behind the others. Chocolat should layer well with others, too. Successful blind buy.
