Sillage de Thé

It looks like I have the honour of writing the first review for Sillage de Thé by the very much ignored French-Japanese house Masaki Matsushima. I was expecting a strong green/tea type of fragrance, but what I get is rather surprisingly not in that style, and I'm actually digging it. First of all, there is very little tea in this concoction; I get some tea vibe straight up front but it lasts mere seconds (though it hangs in the olfactory memory for as long as I can smell the green notes, say a few hours), and then fades away to make room for white/yellow flowers, not dissimilar to hedione. There are definitely green nuances (I get some freshly cut grass), but are a bit left in the background of what, to my nose, smells more like a airy floral composition, with sparkles in the opening provided by the bergamot. As weird as it is, smelled close to the skin it becomes quite overwhelming due to the strenght of the tiare note, for the first few hours at least; luckily it project quite a lot so this gets diluted and totally pleasant. The scent longevity is provided down below by the woody base (cedarwood, though I would swear I smell patchouli here and there), while the vanilla helps with the sweetness rather than showing up on its own. I tried to smell solar rays to make a comparison, but it was raining today... All in all, the best description I can offer to you is of an uplifting, sweet-green and floral type of composition that for many may lead too much into the feminine territory - though I believe this can be easily worn by men as well, as long as they don't need or want to project a macho image of themselves; it's very nicely put together and with decent longevity, a good 8 hours with significant projection during the first 3. The situation I find myself wearing this one mostly, is during spring/summer rainy days surrounded by a green landscape - it really puts me in that mindset. The bottle is absolutely stunning with its traditional Japanese aesthetics. Batch code is 7K051 from 2017. Very strong like. If you don't like it up front, give it a few days to cement into your olfactory memory and try it again.

The solar note in this one is very powerful. I mostly use it in hot summer time. It's very nice, fresh scent. It's absolutely unisex, very office friendly, inoffensive. When you spray it first u can sense right away the bergamot, after very few minutes it becomes more of a green scent. After a few hours you can sense that it turns out to light vanilla. On the cap it smells more like fabric, but on my skin it's a different story.I think it's discontinued unfortunately. I've got the 80ml bottle and over a year it changed slightly in a good way. As longevity is very good for the notes it has it's around 6hrs on my skin, on clothes is even more. Siligage with in an arm. I recommend if u are into unisex fragrances this is a hidden gem.

Beautiful flacon but let me admit it, I like it as room/textile spray but not as perfume. I do prefer more woody greens like Chanel N19, more musky greens like The Bleu or more herbal greens like Herba Fresca. I wish I could pull it off... I guess it’s a bit too much tea for me.

Smells exactly how you would expect the color green to smell.
