Luci ed Ombre

This is so very different from Giuseppe’s Meo line. This definitely fits Masque’s operatic vision because it’s theatrical with the light and shadow contrasts at play. It’s so very different from his coffee heavy Little Song which I enjoy wearing during the dead of winter. The moment this hits the skin there’s this swirl of incense, dark and resinous like walking into a candlelit chapel hidden in an overgrown forest. I particularly used the word swirl because the atomizer is very high quality, and the heavy bottom bottle is gorgeous. Within an hour it settles down to a soft, almost creamy tuberose paired with jasmine and ginger, lifting the composition into something luminous and alive while remaining delicate and dandy. I don’t find the patchouli overwhelming as it it lingers in the background. Some other reviewers below say it leans feminine. I don’t necessarily disagree, but I think it would work on a confident man over forty. It’s truly unisex in my humble opinion. This was a good blind buy for me based on my existing Meo collection. Two weeks later I've decided this is a delicate scent on me and best suited for early spring in the American Southwest. A few hours into the dry down I really enjoy layering with a small spritz of Splendida Tubereuse Mystique Bvlgari. Tubereuse has been my favourite floral since childhood. It lifts up Giuseppe’s accords.

Initial burst of some slightly animalic florals and citrus. Patchouli moderately prominent from the start. Luci Ed Ombre is a pleasantly sweet and less intense offering from Masque Milano. I initially smelled some of the others like Tango, Mandala and Russian Tea, which scared me away from the brand for a while due to the heavy synths. I was surprised by this softer more classy offering after receiving a free sample with another order. There is a beautiful spice note, ginger perhaps, that works wonderfully with the florals. I wanted more incense as it's so prominently listed on the notes. The incense is there, but blended more as part of the whole rather than sticking out individually. The drydown features a light and sweet cedar and patchouli. Luci Ed Ombre is far from being a powerhouse like the others. Moderate longevity, soft sillage. 3-4 sprays recommended per wearing. If I were to buy a fb from MM, this would be a candidate. The lower price is also an added bonus.

Luci ed Ombre is very pretty, and strikes me as a straight floral in the beginning, broadening with increasing complexity over time into a more chypre presence. This is very beautiful and I think I'd find it wildly sexy on the right man. For myself, I prefer the smouldering mystery of Masque's Montecristo, but LeO is quite lovely. If I had a much larger purse from which to purchase fragrances, this would be in wardrobe. The sillage is modest, but the fragrance is enduring, and I've been enjoying the scent for 10 hours now. I think Luci ed Ombre would make a gorgeous alternative for people who find Montecristo too heavy and brooding. These two are my first samplings, and thus far I am very impressed with the Masque line of fragrances.

Love this. Incense and tuberose, but neither steal the show. The tuberose is beautiful, it’s very present but not overpowering. And it’s a good tuberose. More similar to carnal flower tuberose than perris Monte Carlo tuberose, if that makes sense. Floral but slightly dirty. Meo Fuscini is a killer. I can’t detect the other notes per say, as they are stated, but there’s lots more than just what’s mentioned. It’s reminiscent of a few other scents to me, most notably l’artisan histoires des oranges, but more so in general theme than in the smell itself. Absolutely love it. The dry down is a bit funky.

This is a love of mine, but it isn't an 'everyday' perfume - and it took me awhile to lean into it. It has a strong, almost pungent, top note that takes time to settle. Although the notes say incense and ginger - to me this combination gives a really strong eucalyptus/tea tree vibe, which makes me think of this fragrance as very 'Australian' even though it is Italian. Overall - this is a really refreshing, zingy fragrance that is also dark and mysterious. Love it.

An absolutely perfect work of art. Bliss and emotions you didn't even know you had in every spray. After a hot shower on a cold winter night, I coat myself in this and my plush fleece robe.

Heady incense and tuberose with oakmoss, jasmine and cedar, this is lovely and gentle but does, alas, not last as long as I'd have liked. A bit like this review.

This is stunning, fresh but spicy and very zesty with the ginger. I am in love with this, it has a zingy cocktail feel to it that is intoxicating.

Masque Milano Luci ed Ombre, Act II-I , begins the second act of greater complexity, of inner emotions and deep thoughts. It’s primarily a mix of incense, white florals, and woods, slightly sweet but a quite well-balanced portrait of resins, cedar, white florals of tuberose and jasmine, as well as patchouli. This was one of a handful of offerings that I found very to be quite nice on paper during the Masque Milano event at Perfumology earlier this summer, but that I’d not yet tried on skin, and as with Russian Tea, for example, it’s much better and more convincing on skin. Luci ed Ombre is an elegant mix, certainly less provocative off the bat than Russian Tea, for one, and in that respect, rather easy to wear. Pleasantly unisex, though I could see it being perhaps not masculine enough for some men, given that the florals factor in significantly, but it comes off as very agreeable on my skin, a nice year-round versatile player. It performs quite well, too, creating a nice sillage with just a few mini sprays on the arms and neck from the sample atomizer. The pricing for the Masque Milano line isn’t cheap but the creativity and daringness are general high in the line, and while I usually don’t fawn over presentation, Masque Milano’s is among the best I’ve seen. Luci ed Ombre specifically is $125 for 35ml, on the lower end of the line’s pricing. Luci ed Ombre works well at the intersection of a few different categories—those who aren’t big aficionados of incense or white florals might like their more nuanced use in this fragrance. Because it’s not so indulgent, I’m not sure I’d reach for it a lot of it were added to my collection, but I could see this being a versatile, frequent wear for pretty much anyone. It doesn’t scratch one itch thoroughly, but scratches several at the same time, nonetheless. 7 out of 10

A white floral scent which immediately evoked memories of a female friend of mine that I haven't seen in years. It's quite a specific mixture, namely the smell of her car when she used to pick me up. A combination of jasmine perfume, soapy, waxy hair products, a hint of stale spliff car seat and maybe a magic tree hanging from the rear view mirror? Reminiscing aside the main accord here is the combination of Tuberose and jasmine which is honestly intoxicating. It should be awful and not my cup of tea but the jasmine sweetens it up just enough to be likable. There's a hint of smoke and I do mean the tiniest amount could this be the illusive incense? I can see how a fresher smell of frankincense could be hiding in this composition but I would never describe Luci ed Ombre as having an 'incense' note. Well there's definitely tiny hints of something else here like the ginger perhaps? I really couldn't say because the overriding sense is powerfully floral, so powerful in fact the longevity is very good and the projection pronounced at first then dying down. The basenotes are much the same as the opening but it gets a little more soft, soapy and clean as it matures. Still I'm not one to label a perfume off hand but this just says feminine to me and not something I would choose to wear. No denying this is quality juice and I would recommend it to a lady that loves white florals but have to point out it's not the most exciting composition in the world. I'm sure there's similar quality perfumes cheaper and more interesting elsewhere.

- Masque Milano is an excellent brand, a true Niche worth its price, BUT, BUT, BUT, this is one of their more boring work . Frederic Malle said in an interview, "once you do a tuberose perfume, people will scream: Fracas! It smells like Fracas! " Well, he ain't wrong. Luci ed Ombre is one of many variations of Fracas. Scent Description I'm welcomed by a quite unpleasant beginning--sharp citrus? Gasoline? Rubber? (My guess is a natural olibanum and perhaps myrrh. yep, natural incenses smell very challenging). But in a few seconds this cacophony dies down, then a very sweet tuberose comes out. Think a simultaneously tamer and sweeter Fracas, you'll know what I mean. It's unfair to say the sweet tuberose is all there is. A withered-petal-like sourness is hidden inside, and a few drops of fresh spice ginger juice is trying to balance this huge sweet flower, like an ant battling an elephant. For a few seconds, I got a mellow, tuber-y, cooked carrot -like base, but that didn't last long. ( I came across this “tuber-y, cooked carrot” tone in quite a few other perfumes, I suspect it has something to do with one of the natural ingredients?? ) Then the pure sweet tuberose turns to a slightly sour-sweet scent, as if it's mixed with rice-tone sake , or a refreshing Pinot Grigio . That...pretty much sums up the rest of the perfume: sour-sweet tuberose, soaked in slightly sour rice-sake.

I had 3 wonderful samples of Masque, courtesy of Essenza-Nobile a german webshop for niche perfume. Montecristo, Terralba and Luci Ed Omber. They are all kategorised as unisex, but to me this one is by far the most womanly of the 3, probably be cause of a clear flower note together with the darker notes. I really do like it! And I have sniffed my arm again and again. There is not that much sillage (which I like, but all 3 scents lasts forever. I am now going on the 7th hour. Luci ed Ombre means light and shadows, but the shadows here are as pleasant as the light, nothing scary as otherwise mentioned in the sales material. The light and shadows, light and dark notes play with eachother in a perfekt combination, and you will feel wonderful wearing this scent. If I give this one to my boy friend, I will certainly borrow a spritz from time to time. Get your hands on it, (and the other mentioned for that matter), it would be such a shame to miss out on this one!

Yes, this is a medicinal, incensey tuberose. Buuuuuuuuut... Its not in the way that you'd think. Luci ed ombre isnt harsh, sharp, or bitter in really any way. The tuberose really calms down the incense, really blending with it, almost toning down the smokiness. I see a lot of people saying this is super churchy and resinous and dark.... I dont get that at all. Yes, this has incense in it, and it definitely is a main aspect in the fragrance, but its really not an overbearing smokey thick churchy incense. The tuberose and ginger really works to smooth the resinousness, tuberose is an incredibly strong, identifiable note in mostly anything that its apart of, so you can't miss it. This is basically ELDO's Fils de dieu if you replaced the lime and coconut with incense. Lasts a good while, doesn't project much.

I first sprayed this on card and was rather alarmed. It sortof smelt like urine! Not nice at all. I thought I better try it on my skin anyway. Well, it transforms like no other fragrance Ive tried. I definitely got an initial big dose of tuberose, ginger and wood. It was not a nice mix. I hung in there and it calmed down a bit more. It was more dry with jasmine, ginger and wood. It becomes quite dry, cooling and almost a coconut milk fragrance. Its reminds me so much of Montana 80 and also Versaces Crystal Noir. I have to be honest and admit I much prefer CN. I imagine you would wear this in warm weather. There is very little sweetness and its perfectly unisex. The sillage is low and longevity moderate at best.

Nice slightly animalic floral musk with sweet and peppery undertones. A bit of soft citruses (I guess it’s ginger) in the opening but becomes quite dirty and heavy in a couple of minutes. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

Bright ginger opening. The mid smells powdery with spicy notes. The base is a bit green. I'm not picking up much tuberose at all. Overall: Nice. Gentle. Green with a softly woody undertone. But not fbw for me. -

Not exactly my ideal fragrance, not too original but is pleasant and certainly effective. I can not smell tuberose, then olibanum is very strong. I like it.

Reviewing a sample from 2024. Luci ed Ombre was launched in 2013. Described as a woody chypre this fragrance is much lighter and airier coming off as more of a fougere. There is just a hint of ambery japanese incense leading to beautiful ginger spiced subtle white florals . This is all enveloped by mossy aromatic woody notes ( patchouli and cedar). There is some sweetness and a touch of soapiness. I would have liked more of that wonderful incense but then it may have overwhelmed the florals. There is a synthetic note in the base described by some as moldy or stale which is not quite so bad but ruins the drydown. Quality - good 3/5 Unisex - Slightly feminine leaning to start but then leans slightly masculine in the synthetic drydown which has barbershop vibes Performance- average 3.5/5 stays close. lasts 6-8 hours A soft fragrance of delicate white florals contrasted with light incense and earthy undertones. It is perfect for everyday unobtrusive wear or for those who like subtle scents with longevity. Personally I find it too light for my taste ie plenty of Luci but needing more "Ombre" to balance and add depth and I feel the base is not well executed. 6.5/10

You walk into an apothecary and are met with a stark, sterile medicinal smell; that’s the opening here. Medicinal and sharp, but not too herbal. It feels icy-cold, and at first it’s hard to believe you’re smelling tuberose at all. By the heart I could finally say, “yes, finally! This is a medicinal tuberose.” And then comes the plot twist: the fragrance starts to warm up and take on a faint incense quality. An animalic note also appears; surprising, since I usually catch the animalic facets right at the start, not this late. It’s a strange perfume: beginning ice-cold, turning warm and primal. I personally like animalic warmth when it feels truly warm, but fragrances that oscillate between clean and dirty usually don’t work for me. This is one of those. The name... “Light and shadow” really does describe it well. Had the apothecary vibe stayed consistent through the whole wear, this could have been FBW for me. #1797 in my “Tour de Fragrance” I like everything about this but the tuberose. Quality is fine. Maxaroma and FragranceNet have this reasonably priced. But Jomashop and FragranceX are double their price, so shop accordingly. Versatility is fine. But there's a reason you see tuberose more frequently in scents for women. It’s just not a masculine vibe, and for me, not something I even want to smell on a woman I’m intimate with. I’ve owned a couple dozen fragrances with tuberose, and even the ones designated “male" are really not scents most men would wear. I think I’ve kept one Bvlgari and one Marc-Antoine Barrois and given all the rest away. It is clearly not my jam. But overall this is a nice scent, and if you’re into tuberose you probably will be happy with it. Good Luck and Good Hunting1

A ginger spiced white floral hanging in a cloud of incense. This is too baby powder soft and sweet for me, and the ginger and incense lack sufficient spice or smoke to weight this down into balance. I do sense some greenness from the moss and patchouli, but more like a garnish sprinkled on top than anything with legs or roots to hold this together.

Light and dark, exactly as the name promised. A sharp ginger note upon a sweet floral contrasted with a musky and musty base. This smells like a cousin to those heavy 1980's "florambers", Lou Lou comes to mind! Love the idea, not something I would wear myself.

This is my 4th Masque Milano sample and I am not impressed at all with the house. I appreciate the artwork, but the scent do not evoke any emotions that I would like to bare. For me this is incense, olibanum and ginger. I barely detect Tuberose...

Lots of tuberose and white jasmine, very little incense. Definitely not for men and definitely not for me. I don't get the comparison with Montecristo which is a lovely balanced patchouli fragrance.

Love the notes listed. Unfortunately on me this is a desiccated, moldy books smell with patchouli and oak moss. My sample may be off, so I'll try again, but a "No" at this point.

Smells like mold, maybe blue cheese/gorgonzola. Not unpleasant, but not something I'd want to smell like. There's other notes, but for me the cheese dominates. 4/10

Judging from the other reviews, this must be a skin chemistry thing. Because, on me, this smells so crazy stale. Like old potpourri. Had a headache within minutes. I almost never have to scrub samples off, but...

A white floral, leaning too feminine for me but I find it delightful. It starts out like a competition between two golden age Hollywood actresses vying for the camera, jasmine and tuberose go head to head for the limelight. The brand talks of "desire and perpetual quest of oneself" and I can imagine that as the interplay between light and dark here, how do you keep your sense of self when you sold your soul to the Hollywood machine? But this is just a metaphor. Ginger soon makes an appearance to shake up these two starlets, adding a 'tangy' and sparkling aspect to the fragrance. Incense? Not in the way I think of incense as smoky wood fires at night. This is a light and sweet wood note. So although leaning feminine, as this develops it might make for a great summer fragrance. I avoided all the negatives other reviewers experience, and have only the positives to enjoy. The bottle is lovely, not as heavy as I expected for the amount of glass. And the perfumer - Giuseppe Imprezzabile is a name to reckon with. Oh to have a name like that.

I actually came for the tuberose, which is indeed present in the first half an hour, putting Luci Ed Ombre in the same mood league as Times Square: a lipsticky floral with a flashy dirty side. After that, though, Luci ed Ombre becomes browner, dustier as if we're suddenly in the attic: a perfect metaphor for light and darkness, if you think about it. Those that compare it to Vierges et Toreros were there only for the beginning. Later on, ginger becomes dominant, both fresh and dried; a light incense note joins it. And that's the main accord of Luci Ed Ombre: ginger and incense, slightly balmy, but mostly dusty and not really inspiring until the phase of the final dry down several hours later; its slowly emerging soapiness kind of puts everything in its proper place.

Luci ed Ombre is perfect name for this one. Lights and Shadows outlines the effect the notes have, with a surface layer of bright ginger and florals, and an underlying layer of dark resinous spices. These two zones float almost independent of each other, like a thermocline, which keeps the intensity of each sharp throughout the drydown. The top layer with florals and ginger is a thin veneer. A sunny sweet translucence. The heavier layer with moss, dry patchouli, spices and cedar give it a seasoned 'hay-like' aroma . . . maybe the barley field in the description. Beautifully done, Giuseppe Imprezzabile realized his goal of bringing light and dark, yet keeping them separate. This has a European flair, with soft sillage and good longevity.

First impression: It opens most similar to Amouage Epic Woman, heavy incense and cloves-cumin-pimento spices battling bright florals underneath. But it's fine and dissolves in a bit. Bit wild, bit animalic, but very polite. Then it turns really balsamic and ambery on skin, like Dior's Dune or SL Ambre Sultan. It's really well done, smells a bit like an old-fashioned male shaving cream mixed with aroma of fresh beeswax - the resins are really smooth. It has a fresh white floral - camphory - minty note breaking through it like light through smooth, dense summer darkness. I don't have anything comparable in my collection at the moment, so I'm surprised. I like it and I think it's aptly named. Would and will wear again. Unique.

An intriguing and well made interpretation of light and shadow through intense incense and florals. Frankincense, tuberose and jasmin are interwoven to explain the brief. Yet, it's a bit of a gloomy scent with Dark overshadowing Light. Wednesday Addams would wear this. There is also a real earthiness to this composition which must be the moss. Funeral~esque scent. I do not get any ginger. Different than anything else in my fragrance collection. Very unique. Unisex leaning masculine. ✨

Well...I can definitely assure you one thing: the top note definitely isn't incense. In the beginning, I would probably consider this to be the kind of fragrance a woman would go crazy for. For a woman, I think this is the most wearable offering from this house. Elegant without ever become cloying(you can thank the bright jasmine for that). Very long lasting especially for a spring time fragrance. Not as unisex as advertised....

Ok I do get the tuberose jasmine and ginger notes. But i must agree that there is an old mouldy smell to this that isn't pleasant. Might just be the moss which is earthy and a little wet, mixed with the smokiness of the incense. Luci ed Ombre ("Lights and Shadows" in Italian), by Masque Milano, smells like sweet grated ginger, tuberose nectar, incense, frankincense, black pepper, medicinal scents, a bit of body odor, animalic scents, a bit of parmesan or gorgonzola cheese. It is not a perfume for me. Definitely unique. All the notes work together and blend into something homogeneous. I can see why some will love it, some will hate it.

Wowww...arrived this morning. There's a pretty sophisticated creaminess and earthiness, that is smothered in incense. Just a very well made perfume. This is what that female art dealer in Chelsea wears. This is what that hair salon owner in South Beach/Miami wears. I like to say these kind of perfumes are very "unto themselves"

For those considering purchasing as a replacement for Vierges et Toreros- this is in my opinion the closest you will get. It is not as rich, smoky or animalic, but it is definitely in the same vein. I wear them together to extend Vierges 💘

Very light, femme, powdery skin scent I loved the marketing description of the dark wood and the wolf's breath, however I'm not getting that at all. This is a nice day in an open space with some flowers somewhere. It's unremarkable

Hyper-floral with a little bit of woods going on in the back. As soon as I sprayed it I wasn't keen on it. It leans a little too femme and top-note heavy, so yeah, not for me...
