Black Currant Extrait

I went to Harrods today to smell Black Currant on both a card and on my skin, and it is one of the most photorealistic fruit fragrances I have tried. It does not just smell like a vague berry note. It smells like being right next to a blackcurrant bush and squashing a fresh blackcurrant between your fingers, which is something I have actually done. The blackcurrant runs through the whole fragrance. You get the smell of blackcurrant from the top to the base, which is what makes it so convincing. It is juicy, tart, green, slightly sharp, and almost jammy, but not in a sugary way. To me, blackcurrant bushes have this green, slightly animalic smell, and that comes through here. On the card, the animalic side reads more like a sharp berry edge, while on skin it feels more natural and alive. This is 100% a summer fragrance. It feels vivid, botanical, and sun-warmed, like real fruit and leaves rather than a generic fruity perfume.

I got my sample from the Parfums website, and this fragrance is very strong. It literally smells like Maison Crivelli Oud Maracujá. It has that same bold fruity, tropical, oud DNA. I tested them side by side—Oud Maracujá on my left hand and Black Currant on my right—and honestly, I could barely tell the difference. They're incredibly similar, especially in the opening. Overall, this is an amazing fragrance. If you're a fan of Matiere Premiere like I am, you'll definitely want to pick up a bottle. If you've been looking for something with the same vibe as Maison Crivelli Oud Maracujá, this is one of the closest fragrances I've smelled.

My biggest fear was that it would smell too similar to Oud Maracuja because they share a few key ideas... but thankfully, they’re completely different experiences. It smells like if Oud Maracuja and Rouge Trafalgar Espirt had a baby To me, Black Currant Extrait feels like the juicier, fruitier sibling. That blackcurrant note is unbelievably photorealistic. My bottle arrived. I absolutely love this one. Juicy blackcurrant to start, as it dries down it becomes woody and I really can detect a rose note. Very nice patchouli wafting throughout the day. I cannot believe how strong this fragrance is with just 2 sprays. I’m smelling this all day. Fantastic sillage and longevity. Very expensive but the quality here is top notch.

Received today,when first applied it smells very fruity and sharp,drydown I’m trying to think of where I smelt before(maybe widian London🤔)overall I’m happy 😊

As an oud hater I LOVEEE this fruity, woody & STRONG. I don’t see the comparison with Oud M (hate that one) but this is so good

It most closely resembles Nishane Favonius. I also detect a synthetic leather accord.

Bottle arrived today , only had one quick spray before work, it's good. However this does fall into that dark jammy fruity woody composition that we have seen a lot of recently. The rose is there but it's not a green rose or a vintage rose. Just a red floral component that sits alongside the fruity aspect of the fragrance, there's a slight oud type accord opening which fades to a woody fruity, semi sweet smell which then remains for the life. Lasting power is solid unsure about projection. Seems in the vein of fdb rude oud, fruitier less woody 'the moon' or perhaps bdk Oud nectar , that type of wheelhouse. If I didn't know black currant was the primary note then I wouldn't guess it was that, just a berry compote. Need more wearings on this one but I do really like it

The oud here is similar to the one used in Oud Maracujá by Maison Crivelli - slightly medicinal with a subtle iodine-like nuance. The blackcurrant comes through beautifully, sweet with a gently tart edge, which is further emphasized by the patchouli. The leather has a slightly animalic touch, but it stays well in the background, leaving the berry as the star of the composition. It’s more of the same rather than something genuinely new. But if you enjoy blackcurrant and don’t mind oud, this composition is definitely worth checking out.
