Encens Suave Extrait This has replaced the original Encens Suave for me. It’s incredibly smooth and beautiful. ESE is exactly what I wanted the extrait to be and more; it starts off with a stronger, deeper, and darker incense note. The smoky nuance then leads the way to the added note of amber, and the coffee and vanilla comes in later, while the remaining notes solidify the aforementioned notes. Incense remains all throughout the scent from start to finish, it’s more dominant than the original, as in the original, its base notes show more vanilla. Nothing is overbearing and is all very cohesive. Aside from the incense being the strongest difference, I also notice a higher quality vanilla and coffee, the coffee note is also slightly stronger/noticeable, and it adds an almost nutty, sharp and slight burnt facet to the incense. As for the amber, it’s a tender touch and doesn’t throw anything off balance. I adore these differences; in my review of the original, I mentioned that you get a very slight latte feel, and the incense becomes a little less pronounced and makes more room for the vanilla. In this extrait, that slight latte feel is less so, and the profile becomes a lot more ethereal and mysterious, while remaining very wearable. ESE speaks to my soul and personality. It’s not the most complex scent I own, nor is this my favourite house, but it’s all about how I feel wearing this. This scent just works with me. Now is this worth for the ones who already have the original? It depends on whether or not you love incense and this particular DNA. It’s my number one note so I’m naturally bias. I see lots complaining that the blend is ruined and the beauty is lost compared to the original, but I beg to differ because they’re both different enough to own. If you’re a fiend for incense like me, want even more incense because the original wasn’t enough, and would welcome the differences, then I’d say go for it. If you want a stronger version of the original in all of its particular facets, then don’t get this. Either way I love both, but this one speaks to my soul. Thanks for reading : )

Jeez wtf I haven't had such an immediate (positive) reaction to a fragrance in a while. Like I had to look for a cafe to write this down because I neeeeed to let out how this scent made me feel. I came into the extrait not smelling the edp, and whoa that's smooooooth, and dark *enough.* It's not heavy and overbearing (my problem with deep dark scents). It's the dang incense that keeps it airy and uplifting despite clearly a deep shade of black. Smelling it was a brainblast of clarity for me. I do like the smell of incense and stuff burning! But I don't like it went it veers too resinous/ambery, or on the other end of the spectrum where it smells like something set on fire. This is right down the middle and bounces off into a very mildly sweet place that just rounds out the abrasion on the incense perfectly. The price tag is ridiculous but jesus I might just save up for a bottle. Babycat will not do this to you. They're only similar in how it does fit that dark-evening-vanilla-worn-for-events-and-posh-nights-out archetype BUT this is on league of its own, or rather like it's own style entirely. I can wear this during the day. I can style clothes more flexibly than I could with darker scents. I love this a lot and it's flustering how I can't afford it haha but you knoooow I actually think it's worth it!

I sampled this as part of a discovery set, and I will definitely be buying a full bottle. This scent is so evocative for me on a personal level: the incense is incredible, but the amber in this...the minute I smelled it, I was transported back to the smell of the violin bow rosin my dad used on his violin bows, which I thought was incredible even as a kid. Despite the prevalence of amber fragrances, this is the first time I've had that long-held memory pulled from the recesses of my mind. It's classy, spiritual, yet also sensual, while at the same time, comforting. For me, this is and will be something special, but I strongly recommend sampling this first. Blind buying isn't wise, but this scent will likely not be for everyone, despite how wonderful I think it is. This is not "baby's first fragrance"...not even close.

Better than the OG. Crystal clear opening u can feel the incense amped up with a slight amber touch in the background. Right off the bat seems to be more potent than the EDP. If money was no object I’d definitely pick this over the edp but given a 100 pounds extra its a difficult trigger to pull. Having said that its the most wearable beautiful modern feeling incense I’ve ever smelled. Just the £350 is too much for a 100ml incense frag. EDIT 21/09/24: Two weeks later I couldn't wait for two to three months for this to show up at grey market just HAD TO PULL THE TRIGGER. Edit 17/06/25: This has hit discounters at around $180. Honestly one of the best incense frags out there. Others to consider Mont Blanc Mesiterstuck and Encens Cuivre. Still the MP my favorite.

Wow, this is a masterpiece and the most beautiful incense scent I have ever smelled. It is rich, realistic, high quality church incense (frankincense, other resins), without any unpleasant smoke. It is a very warm, rounded scent, almost creamy (not lactonic, probably the word I'm looking for is 'smooth' ) . It kind of feels gourmand, due to vanilla and sweetness, and as a gourmand lover I love it, but don't get me wrong, it doesn't smell like desert or food. Not really picking up the coffee note. Also Extrait version is so much better than EDP, as it is more rich, smooth and performs better. A very welcome upgrade, totally worth it! Performance is superb, cannot stop smelling myself and loving it while wearing it!

This is good, went to Saks and they had a tester bottle of the extrait. let me tell you this juice is really good. I had tired the OG and to my nose it was more animalic and prominent upfront. the extrait is a lot smoother, creamier sweet and bit more incense due to the frankincense. the fall and winter is where this fragrance will shine and warm nites for sure. this is a masterpiece for me and def full bottle worthy. but def don't blind buy but sample first bc we all have different tastes so do your homework before pulling the trigger; $390 retail price might be a bit steep so wait for the retail discounts and discounters Imo. Overall an Incense Masterpiece.

I really enjoy this fragrance. To me on my skin smells like a masterful blend of a cardboard and hint of amber and a morning cup of coffee, but not in a linear kind of way. think of walking into a office mail room filled with amazon boxes with that morning coffee smell with a side of amber. I think this is a very well done fragrance and quite frankly i’m happy this isn’t hyped or mass appealing. it’s truly made for those who wear what they want and aren’t swayed by what others think and are confident and ok with that. 10/10 TEST FIRST BEFORE BUYING!

A work of art. Although I do recognize that while me and many others love it for it's masterful smoothness and blending, there are some people who think it's horrible, citing it as smelling medicinal, musty, or like cardboard. The funny thing is that I can't fully disagree with those analogies. I guess it is an acquired taste- something that you grow to love over time. Encens Suave is not an everyday wear, but when it's right, it's really right.

I stumbled upon this while looking for a realistic "church-y" smell, and I am delighted to say I've found it! It's powdery, complex, and very heavy on the resin. Though I really enjoy it, I wouldn't call this a safe blind buy, nor would I wear it to work or somewhere formal. I definitely cannot justify the price tag yet, but when I get the chance this will be added to my collection.

Firewood covered in resinous incense, opens sweeter than the original. My little sample has been beaming from the crook of my elbow all day, going toe to toe with the Vanilla Powder Extrait sample on my other arm. I'd skip the original and get this if this is one of interest, definitely worth sampling.

A lovely incense fragrance that has a complimentary sweetness threaded throughout the scent. This fragrance remains quite linear on my skin but the scent itself is magnificent and I can't stop putting my nose to the areas I sprayed. Aurélien Guichard killed it with this one.

EDP on one hand and the Extrait on the other. I prefer the extrait. The opening is better, the scent is sweeter and more rounded and the performance is even better. Don't get me wrong the difference is slight but I is a step up. The best incense I have ever smelled.

wow this is amazing. most incense perfumes for me all end up smelling the same but this the combination of frankincense with traditional gourmand notes (coffee, vanilla) work so well together. super unique and i want a bottle...

My second favorite from the house. I love this version more than Edp. It’s less sweet and more balsamic-ambery. It will be pleasure to wearing in colder days.

Exact same smell of Absolute Aphrodisiac from Initio, smells hella good

So, something prompted me to "re-try" certain incense-liturgical-frankincense-myrrh fragrances once again. I tried Encens Suave EdP many moons back and I recall liking it a whole lot. I decided to try the Extrait version side-by-side with the Eau de Parfum variation. Encens Suave Extrait is positively a very wearable and enjoyable fragrance. And like the EdP, Encens Suave Extrait is a pleasant, highly agreeable and wearable high-holy-mass incense fragrance. To my nose, the opening of the Extrait is slightly different versus that of the EdP because the EdP opens with quite a bit of noticeable smokiness. The Extrait does not open with great smokiness; however the middle notes of both fragrances perform similarly. Encens Suave Extrait lands with less smokiness, greater depth, stronger notes and a greater balsamic play versus its Eau de Parfum variation. I fail to detect any coffee note in either version. Encens Suave Extrait opens denser and immediately performs very close to the skin, as opposed to the EdP version. There's sweetness from the vanilla and a balsam effect from the benzoin. The Extrait's longevity is fair; silage is minimal. Overall, I like the Extrait version a lot because the fragrance deepens and strengthens in the drydown, whereas the EdP's drydown demonstrates greater projection but a shriller, finer, less dense fragrance. Either way, you cannot go wrong with this fragrance.

I’ll start this off by saying that I’ve never smelled the edp. And I’m also a person that doesn’t really like coffee fragrances as they can be too cloying. However I really enjoy this from start to finish. On my skin it starts off with a strong ambery incense. The incense does have a church vibe but it’s comforting. Incense start through out the life of the fragrance. It eventually dries down to a beautiful blend of all the notes. It definitely projects on my skin so dont overspray. I wish the opening lasted longer as the incense and amber are my favorite accords. If you like incense grab it. If you don’t then don’t try it. It’s also unisex imo. I typically wear frags year round but this could be during the summer or spring. It’s a strong like, not a love. Something I’d grab for winter events. Not something that I would purchase again. There’s also a Carmel note that isn’t listed but it’s very apparent in the drydown. 8/10

I don't know what it is about this and the original...they both seem kinda watered down to me. Either that, or I'm going noseblind to them within a few minutes of spraying. For an extrait and EdP, I find both versions to be underpowered. I got this in a decant, but an official sample of the EdP. This would typically be right in my wheelhouse, an incense frag for those who don't like incense frags. I like it and it's definitely better than the EdP, but unfortunately, still missing something for me to even think about buying a FB considering the disgustingly high price. The opening is super smooth, smoother than the EdP. This leans a little too heavily on the vanilla for me, while the incense is a minor player; I would have preferred a little more incense. It does have pretty decent longevity though. Way too damn overpriced for what it offers IMO, but it is quite mass appealing and wearable for an incense frag.

A strong, rustic perfume that smells very woody, dry and resinous with a little bit of ambery sweetness. I'm not getting any realistic incense. I'm getting a lot of myrrh and virtually no coffee. It feels like being in a cabin. I prefer the original because it has a stronger amber note that mellows it out. However, both are extremely similar. There's not much difference. It's a likeable perfume. Unisex, but leaning masculine due to its rugged feel. I picture a cowboy or an outdoors man wearing this. I got a sample in original Matiere packaging from Twisted Lily. Smell: 8 out of 10 Strength: 10 out of 10 Unisex, leaning masculine For reference, I'm female.

On first take the incense is more pronounced and the sweetness is dialed down. I don’t think it preforms as well as the original, which on me is a beast. I am constantly aware of the original from 8 am until 12 am and again the next morning in the shower. I don’t get that from this. The volume goes up and down with the extrait. As the day wears on the incense settles down and the extrait much more resembles the EDP. I prefer the EDP but I suspect that is because I smelled it first. You can’t go wrong with either. From a financial perspective to me it is a no brainer.

Like many others, I cannot detect the coffee note whatsoever. I truly love incense and amber scents, and this one does not disappoint in that regard. The notes do change over time, as it starts off slightly sour on my skin, but it mellows out to something slightly smokier. The scent itself is extremely subtle, and as expected from extraits, it sits very close to the skin. Not exactly full bottle worthy, this was among my favorite among everything available from the brand.

I think the scent is beautiful, but as a scent. As a perfume I’m not sure I want to smell like a church. I’m drawn to the scent, at the same time I don’t want this to be the sole scent that’s coming from me. I started to smell the vanilla and not just frankincense, which made it more suitable as a perfume for me, but it took 5 hours for that to happen. So the good news is, this lasts quite a while on skin.

I started off hating this fragrance when I first got it, I couldn’t stand how strong it was. so I gave it some time and came back to it and smelled it again it’s very photorealistic smell of incense and vanilla with a smoky background like very smoky, I even catch a hint of a fruity smell in the opening this is not blind buy safe whatsoever but this is a nice smell. Niche in a way.

The combination of frankincense and vanilla is bewitching. Like ambery burnt sugar. Perfectly warm and resinous. Gently sweet. This scent is so special. Projection is moderate, and this lasts f o r e v e r .

It’s a very smoky scent as the name says, but I do feel vanilla as well when it dries down.

To me the EDP is the better smelling fragrance, the Extrait is stronger of course The EDP is more vanilla-y (some say sweet) For me the Extrait is too clouded with smokiness and incense I hardly pick up the coffee note in either fragrance

Quite disappointing I must say. I must agree with the user Nichedoug. There is a reason why perfume blend is one of the most important things in perfumery. It can make or brake the scent. It can make something that has ordinary notes smell extraordinary. This just smells ruined, like they accidentally spilled too much incense oils in tho the mix and said "Oh well, let's just call this batch EXTRAIT de parfum and sell it for double the price" When you enjoy a certain cocktail, you go to a bar and order it, and if you really like it you order another one, and another one, you do not take a beer pint and ask a bartender to triple the cocktail ingredients in it.

Loved this on paper, even more than I loved the regular Encens Suave which is a lot! But when I tried both of them on my skin, the regular Encens Suave was wonderful and gorgeous and this smelled awful and chemical-y. I suspect the lovely traditional amber accord of Encens Suave EDP has been "amplified" in this Extrait version with a modern superamber, ruining the scent entirely.

oh the cash grab, so unnecessary but of course they have to be on par with modern niche perfumery releasing "extrait" flankers of every existing fragrance in the line up. why is this even needed when the original encens suave exists? uninspiring greedy marketing

This perfume was not for me unfortunetaly.. I had a vibe of Babycat from Ysl but with incense. Perhaps, longevity is present.

Retesting the original Encens Suave made me realise that there is a powdery nouance to it, something i missed last year when i reviewed it. It is an olibanum perfume without doubt, just as i mentioned in its review, but its dressed up neatly in vanilla, benzoin and a gentle powdery haze over it. So much so that its as massappealing and aproachable of an incense/olibanum perfume as this sort of scentprofile can ever be. I just reviewed Gipsy Water Absolu, which also featured incense and vanilla and surprisingly even that one is relatively more niche then Encens Suave. That is not a critique on Encens Suave’s part and i praise it because there is room under the sun for such a scent. Olibanum or incense doesn’t have to be a unidimensional note, made strictly for those into churchy perfumery. Encens Suave is proof that the note can be tailored to suit a larger audience and they succeeded. The extrait version takes things a bit more seriously because Encens Suave Extrait is a darker scent by a few notches. In the opening seconds i even detect the coffee note which is nowhere to be found in the original. It is not long lived here eighter, only peeking out during the initial blast and vanishing into the background equally fast. The original is brighter, more vanillic and powdery whilst the Extrait does away with the powderyness and puts the incense a bit more in the front. The vanilla is present here aswell, especially in the drydown and its what keeps the fragrance from falling into a super-niche category but i’ll get to that in a second. As far as my tastes go, its a better version but keep in mind im a sucker for church aesthetics, fragrances and resins in general. When it comes to mass appeal, the original takes the win and its more aproachable although i wouldn't label the extrait as challenging eighter. Yet again i feel compelled to bring up my experience with the two Byredo Absolus i’ve tested these days. Both of them took a larger departure from their originals then Encens Suave Extrait does. The original puts more accent on the vanilla and benzoin from the start whilst the Extrait flips the switch towards the incense but the far drydown has the vanilla make a comeback. I believe this extrait version caters to a public that wanted a bit more incense out of the scentprofile but who are not decided enough to wander too far towards realistic churchy incense or resins such as Comme des Garcon’s Incense line or Filippo Sorcinelli’s creations. I like it very much but Armani Prive’s Sable Nuit has me covered on this kind of semi-churchy olibanum profile, a fact i also mentioned in my Gipsy Water Absolu review. I don’t usually rate things, or give scores and percentages but this time i’ll make an exception. If Encens Suave is a 5 on the “churchy incense scale” and Comme des Garcon’s Avignon is a 9, this Extrait is the middle ground between them, being a 7. Its like a stepping stone on the road towards the "scary" incenses.

Encens Suave Extrait from the French House of Haute Luxury Niche Perfumery Matiere Premiere is a Oriental Vanilla Incensed Spicy Resinous Woody Unisex perfume. This is a brand new perfume that has launched at the end of 2024. And the nose behind this fragrance is Aurélien Guichard, also owner of the brand. This new Extrait line, in addition to the increase in the concentration of essential oils, also came with a higher dosage of the main ingredient, here it is an exceptional Somali Incense, and also all came with a new ingredient compared to the original creation in EDP; here at Encens Suave Extrait is a slightly sweet resinous woody amber accord. The Brand also has the practice of informing only some key notes of the fragrance. Another interesting policy of the Brand is the simple presentation [box and bottle], and focus on raw materials of the highest quality. This new perfume offers a more intense, deeper, darker, resinous, and less sweet interpretation than the original, enriching the composition with amplified warmth and complexity. Encens Suave Extrait is a deep fragrance that opens with a slight bitterness of a dark coffee vapor. But we quickly come to the heart of the composition, and soon there arises a mist of a wonderful incense... a mystical and dark frankincense woody brown in suspension blending with the also golden incense of smoky and sweet benzoin; They snake through a magnificent creamy vanilla adding sweetness and depth. This smoky toasted vanilla permeating the fragrance as a whole, leaves an aromatic background of a delicious melted caramel. Bringing a sweetness in measure with a mouth-watering gourmet accord. From there, towards the base, come the dark resinous labdanum and the elegant and sensual woody amber, warm and slightly sweet, bringing and amplifying a darker, resinous and woody facet, which leaves this version with a richer, more harmonious and less sweet finish than EDP; and fortunately it was exactly what I was looking for at Extrait. Delicious perfume with a very good performance!

As someone who went on a quest to decide between the extrait and edp,I’ve come to the conclusion that the extrait is miles better in my personal opinion.I disagree with the notions that: 1-the incense is so much more amped up,2-edp is better in terms of longevity and sillage,3-edp is sweeter.They come off really similar initially but the frankincense addition compliments the composition so beautifully and brings a gorgeous resinous sweet aspect that sets the extrait apart from the edp completely,which doesn’t really develop into anything else and remains kind of flat to me.I’m still able to smell the two sprays of the extrait on my left wrist after 10 hours,and two sprays of the edp on my right wrist is gone.I was careful while washing my hands so no water or soap touched either side,neither did anything else come in contact for that matter.So,to recap,this is more resinous,sweeter and more ambery,with incense still playing its big part,but all of these dance together beautifully which makes it more special and intoxicating in my opinion.Longevity and sillage is much better.Edp is incense and amber front and center,which is not a bad thing,that’s just all there is to it.Started disappering after the 5-6 hour mark I think.Also,I do not detect coffee in neither tbh.Extrait is fb worthy to me,I don’t have anything like this and look forward to adding it to my collection. Update:Purchased it and in love with it.This is personally unlike anything i own and so special to me.The frankincense,amber,vanilla combination makes me go crazy and unable to stop smelling my wrist.

Envens Suave Extrait is more or less a mono-note incense fragrance, and it does it very well. The opening starts with a quiet black coffee accord. Just enough to get your attention and then it fades. Next there's a few minutes where you're wondering where the smell went because the incense note takes about 30min to bloom to its full effect. And what you get is very clean and effervescent. The vanilla and resins kinda just blends in, adding weight but not too much warmth or sweetness. The basenotes provide a slight powdery texture. Throughout the wear experience, incense is the main star, even in the late dry down. For a comparison, if Decision was the extroverted protagonist, ESE would be the introverted sidekick. The main frankincense note is not fresh and zingy like Decision, but rather clean and meditative. Another comparison is Le Lion, which is much warmer and smokier than this. There's a bit of a professional personality to this fragrance, which I find makes this very versatile and good for all seasons.

Whereas the EDP feels sweeter, more vanillic, and less incensey, the Extrait is darker, more resinous and has a clear ecclesiastical presense. It smells like a thick, caramelized vanilla extract has been poured into a thurible and left to smolder amidst the frankincense. I was disappointed with how little incense I smelt in the EDP, but the Extrait fixes this. After some hours, the churchy feel fades and the vanilla turns darker, smoky, almost leathery. I much prefer rhe Extrait, but pious incense + syrupy sweetness is not a combination that works well for me. I would rather wear a more pure incense scent (LAVS, Kyoto, one of Heeley's incenses), or a vanilla without the incense (Ani, Angelique Noire). This is very personal of course, and occasionally I do eat my own words - Xerjoff Zefiro being a prime example - a beautiful cathedral incense on top of honeyed spices and lacquered wood. But then again, it has a different kind of sweetness to Encens Suave - much less sweet and syrupy.

Encens Suave Extrait: A Refined, Ambery Incense I enjoyed the scent of this one. It’s not necessarily a brand-new or unfamiliar smell—I’ve seen this vibe in many other incense fragrances—but the execution here is top-tier. The frankincense is truly the heart of this fragrance. It feels very high-quality and refined, blending perfectly with the surrounding notes. Interestingly, even though there aren't any spices listed in the official notes, I definitely pick up on spices, specially cardamom. It’s likely just the way the notes are layered that gives off that impression. While it might not be the most unique scent on the market, it’s easily one of the best ambery, sweet incense fragrances I’ve smelled. If you love that warm, resinous style, this is a beautiful version of it. Rating: 7.5/10 (A high-quality, polished take on a classic incense theme.)

If you cannot detect coffee in this then you either dont know what coffee smells like or you just can't detect notes in fragrance as not everyone can although they pretend to. The coffee lingers on through the life of this scent its a stunning creation and just different enough to earn the respect. £350 though for not alot of naturals regardless of the quality is pushing it. Considering the power house of amouage prides itself on smokey incense ambery fragrances and comes in cheaper with alot of their fragrances at £320 that is my only issue with the extraits from matiere premiere I think they are just a little to overpriced. I would have come in at £295 for the extraits as much as I love them I am torn about the price. Plus just a cardboard box and a not very exciting bottle with a plastic cap yep definitely a little to expensive!

My review on the original Encens Suave is: “Black coffee, sugar, subtle church incense, cash money, a New York Times newspaper and a mini Coca-Cola. Addictive.” This version has an added sweet amber accord that gives caramel vibes. Both versions are dark and sweet but this Extrait version is sweeter, yet the original version is stronger and longer lasting. I love both. I layer Nemat Amber oil with the original Encens Suave and it smells just like the Extrait.

Not having smelt it yet, very few will have, I’m curious. While extraits can be stronger they DON’T necessarily project more. But rather may have deeper, more rounded notes or a tweaked profile. I’m not going to squawk or make assumptions, but rather remain curious and open minded. Let’s see how it pans out. I’ve loved the OG, and am curious how the notes balance will turn out. Not so much the volume. That can be modified by spraying less.

Love this scent DNA. Women seem to love this stuff as well. It's probably the best burning incense cones style to my nose. The longevity is there but I was expecting it to be a bit louder. This is nothing like babycat btw as they each have their own identity. As of right now, this is my top incense scent. I also detect natural ambergris which I feel adds that beautiful animalic sweetness.

This fragrance has a beautiful scent, rich with incense and woody notes, complemented by hints of vanilla and amber. It feels like something Tom Ford would release, but with superior longevity. While it might not be the safest blind buy, if you're a fan of LV Ombre Nomade or TF Oud Wood, you would likely love this perfume.

So extremely strong. I did one spray on my arm and went about my day, tried on multiple clothes and went out the gym. It’s 7 hours later and still very strong projecting off my arm. It’s a more masculine , soapy/clean and darker version of the og. Smells a little mature I couldn’t imagine this on someone under 30

maybe im salty because i just got the OG but, this does NOT need to be an extrait version at all???? 2 sprays ontop of each other projects ALL day, i can only see myself wearing the OG on exceptionally cold days so this is not a good look for the brand imo :/

All I can say is WOW! This is such a comforting, cosy and interesting scent. I can’t remember the last time I couldn’t get a perfume off my mind but this one is living in my head rent free. Definitely my next perfume purchase.

soapy incense with a clean touch from the frankincense. the whiffs i’m getting are stunning.this is one of the best frankincense i’ve ever smelled unbelievably high quality

I hope this one is indeed stronger and possibly even more cone style incense
