Falcon Leather Extrait

June 2025 update: Even though in my initial review down below I said it's not worth the extra 130 euro over the price of the EdP (of which I have two 100ml bottles), being a true leatherhead I ended up buying TWO 100ml bottles of the Extrait 😅😅(which is also now available in 50ml) and honestly I love it!! 😍 The scent profile is definitely richer & much more darker 🖤 than the EdP which is warmer in an ambery way if that makes sense. Extrait is more smoky due to the genuine Oud Assafi from Bangladesh 🇧🇩, and a higher dose of birch tar from Finland 🇫🇮, however they're both absolutely amazing. In terms of performance the Extrait gets the crown 👑 as I found the EdP to be weak which is why I have two bottles of it as you have to overspray. Just to summarize the difference: they're both built around a Russian leather accord (birch tar) but the EdP is an elegant and more of a sweet amber 💛 leather scent, while the Extrait is darker, smokier and much more deeper and smoother leather fragrance! 🖤✨ Their respective colors are an excellent representation of the scent profile by the way! 💛🖤 Honestly you can't go wrong with either one of them, I have both now but if I had to choose only one it'll definitely be the Extrait 🥇 A video review is also available on my YT ▶️ ( it turns out I'm the only one who reviewed it on YT ▶️ 😄)

I got the Falcon Leather EdP for 220 euro last year directly from Matiere Premiere (it is now bumped up to 240 euro), but will I pay an extra 130 euro for the Extrait version? Absolutely not, and I'll explain why. The extrait version has "a guest ingredient" which is Oud Assafi, but the EdP already has oud in it, so this hefty price jump is totally unjustified! 📈 Yes the extrait to me smells better than the EdP, it's darker, smoother and more well-rounded. It's more smoky due to the genuine smooth Oud Assafi. But again, you get 90% of the experience with the EdP, so definitely the hefty price tag is not justified here. Aurelien Guichard went from a master perfumer to a greedy CEO with this move unfortunately. 💸 Also the EdP is already overpriced, for the price of the EdP you can get a better leather fragrance from a niche house; Hard Leather by Laurent Mazzone, and it's an extrait de parfum! 💼🐂 🪵 A video review is also available on my YT ▶️

The way this is described - "DARK, Potent, Intense" - I was expecting something crazy. Its actually quite tame. Very smoothly blended and likable. Sophisticated and expensive smelling. Mostly a birch tar/saffron smell. Your typical Russian leather profile. But due to the balance - not exactly "leather" - more leather-like. The intensity is perhaps slightly stronger than Tom Fords Ombre leather. You aren't clearing out a room. The projection is very practical at about an arms length. One of the points was that the smokiness is a little like cigarette smoke. I agree with that. Its Like you walked into a room where someone smoked a few hours earlier. I purchased this mainly because I love Oud Assafi. I can tell you that Oud Assafi is a very minor player in this composition. You feel it in the late dry down. Overall, its still a 9.5/10. Classy, sophisticated, wearable with very good performance.

Falcon Leather Extrait de Parfum is an absolutely stunning leathery-woody fragrance. I already own Vanilla Powder from this house and adore it, but Falcon Leather takes things to another level. This is a regal, unapologetically masculine leather scent that’s anything but dull. It opens with a rich note of saffron that remains present well into the drydown. The birch tar is seamlessly blended with the leather accord, creating a smoky elegance that’s further enriched by warm touches of labdanum and benzoin. What really stands out is the drydown — it carries a surprising freshness, reminiscent of a brand-new leather jacket. Longevity is excellent, and the sillage is impressive without being overpowering. This is a fragrance I would highly recommend for any man looking to add a bold, refined leather scent to his collection. It’s confident, distinctive, and undeniably appealing. Rating: 9/10

My first ever scrubber, luckily tested in Fenwicks & initially thought whoa Petrol/Tar/Leather is very heavy. It did not relent & i have to say i hated it. I didn't know the price point at the time but frankly anyone paying £350 for 100ml must have different skin/nose to me. Sampled it on Paper also but just nauseating & this is form a guy who wears TF Tuscan Leather, ADP Leather, Ombre Leather etc. Should like it on the notes alone but 4hrs later still not altering my view on paper sample & still remains on my skin despite my efforts to scrub it. Afraid it is a solid no from me & a get away from me from Mrs R. Footnote: Tried again in store but still wouldn't purchase over TF Tuscan Leather.

Opulent dark leather fragrance built around a Russian leather accord (birch tar). Smokey and has that gravitas to it, while the EdP is more ambery and warm. Interestingly the respective colors of the juice of the Extrait and the EdP mirror their scent profiles. I have both but I prefer the Extrait. A video review and comparison is available on my YT ▶️ By the way guy below me is hallucinating so pay no attention to the "official" notes he listed as it's just hallucinations; there's no bergamot or moss or patchouli or vanilla 😂

Amazing. I have the EDP and will buy the extra it as well. This opens how the edp is the edp is in its mid notes. Loud strong smoky tar slight leather. I like it and might even make it my daily because I like it so much. Not for someone who thinks certain fragrances have a time and place because if I’m being objective, this is a night time, cold weather type of fragrance.

This is one of my favorite fragrances and I like stuff like Crystal Saffron Extrait, Cuoium and Ganymede. During testing I thought it was a bit challenging but after getting the full bottle I actually don't think so. I think it is a very pleasing ambery leather. The performance is absolutely great as it can last me through an entire day at work for example.

This opens with a bitter tar note that is unapologetic and masculine. About 15 minutes later, the other notes unfold of the photorealistic old falconers glove left in the sunshine, as intended. This is not a sweet, thick Tuscan Leather, but a dark, heavy, and dry leather with suede rounding everything out. Beautifully executed.

AMAZING!!! Really good... I'm searching the perfect leather parfum. Filippo Sorcinelli, Amouage, TF, etc... this one hits top 3 for sure. A little overprice, but the quality is amazing. Smells rich, classy and bold. 9/10

Loud, but non abbrassive. Straight forward, but well rounded with depth. This is the best pure leather fragrance.

The extrait version of Falcon Leather is really, I mean, REALLY good. It quickly dries down to the most wonderful, realistic leather scent that's smooth and creamy. There might be a little something else (spice, smoke, etc.) in the background but the leather rules. It's the best leather fume I've smelled to date and also trumps Falcon Leather EdP, which is rougher around the edges. This is clearly a masculine fragrance, not unisex. I also compared it to Leather EdP from Acqua di Parma which I had previously tested but still had a sample. I thought highly of it at the time. I can easily say Leather does not come close to Falcon Leather Extrait which is so much better. Longevity and projection are both very good, improving on the EdP in these departments as well. The only thing holding me back from ordering a bottle is the price. I definitely want it but Falcon Leather Extrait will have to be a special purchase.

More refined and rounded with the oud than the original. Just imagine the original being a bad boy with a leather jacket and this is him dressed up in a tux. Is this worth an extra 100 pounds now selling at 350? Thats a pretty steep price tbh. I’m still going to pick the OG for that bad boy aspect.

The bitterness of the birch tar is extremely smooth around the edges. Undoubtedly, it is the favorite among the extraits from this house. It's still a one-dimensional fragrance, but that particular note is very pleasant.

This is good. Have never smelt anything like this before. That bark is so sharp and bitter. Beautiful.

I tested it at Printemps Lyon and was absolutely thrilled from start to finish. It was a fantastic Oud Assam fragrance that quickly transformed into a tarry leather scent and finished with a very pleasant incense note. The tester was very intense and sophisticated, while the bottle I bought had a tarry scent from beginning to end and was completely weak. On my skin, it only lasted six hours and was barely noticeable close to the skin, whereas the tester was very intense. The same thing happened to me with B683 and Black Afghano. Batch Falcon Leather 4E1 Beware of testers and samples from niche brands. Testing decantations among friends to really get a true idea of the fragrance; however, I stopped buying because these companies have no respect for perfume lovers, and I wonder if it's not illegal to do such a thing.

I wore a black turtleneck under my black coat, and I have a scarf on. I’m ready to go out at night and give off a bold, tough vibe. This is exactly the kind of moment when I would reach for this fragrance. It’s not bad — definitely interesting and attention-grabbing, and it truly lives up to its name. The leather note is in the spotlight from start to finish. However, I don’t dress the way I described, nor do I add a fragrance with such a limited usage to my collection. I liked the EDP version much more.

Falcon Leather Extrait ✽✽✽ Big fan of the original, but this is just grotesque for the first 3 hours - birch tar and leather blast overpower the whole composition numbing nostrils completely. After 3 hour mark it dries down to a creation that resembles the Eau de Parfum version. Extremely potent and imo quite unnecessary since original was already strong.

Ramps up immediately to the birch tar facet, which is pretty prominent, but when combined with the resinous labdanum notes, this doesn't really evoke the smell of leather by any stretch of the imagination. Really, it comes off as a pure birch tar frag, which I can commend, but it's rather simple and a bit muted for my taste. Lasts for quite a while though, but unfortunately, the vision was not fully realized for me, and you could just bulk buy birch tar and layer another frag as an alternative.. EDIT: Obtained a bottle of pure rectified birch tar oil, this perfume woefully lacks of it if this is what you're expecting (though it's already used in such low amounts)--this is more of a mutely tarry dry bark interpretation. Not really my forte.
