Private Club for Men

I rarely make a blind purchase of a perfume just being edited. However, due to the quality of my Mauboussin latest purchases, my enthusiasm lowered my defenses, and I blind bought the brand-new Mauboussin Private Club. I never understood the need for some designers to use over decorated giant card boxes to contain a flask ten times smaller. In this case the box is small (which is good) and extremely stylish. The 100 ml deep navy blue glass bottle, shaped like the previous M Generation flask, and with the Mauboussin name in a small gold band, is extraordinarily beautiful and elegant. So far this box/bottle package may constitute an exquisite inexpensive gift eligible for someone I treasure or love. The juice... The perfume was a very pleasant surprise right from the first spray. The opening occurs without any alcoholic burst and the scent floods the environment with a soft citrus note and a strong accord of fresh spices. A heady note of black pepper dominates, but it's very well blended with coriander and cardamom. The projection is strong, but not in excess, and there is no danger of nausea. From the outset I notice some resemblance to Penhaligon's Love Potion 9 and this impression is also occurs during the drydown. This is tantamount to saying that a similarity with YSL Opium may exist as well, although the listed notes are completely different. I want to refer to "likeness" which is very different from "copying", and I don't even suspect that Mauboussin pretends to enter in the "clone" market. Private Club is a very unique and fantastic fragrance but we mortals have the need to frame comparisons with something we already know. These olfactory references also extend to the opening of Versace Dylan Blue and YSL "La Nuit de l'Homme Parfum" and to the V & R "Spicebomb" drydown. It is easy to make an association with Eros as well. As initial credentials this perfume could not be better endorsed. The spicy opening notes extend practically until the beginning of the drydown. During the evolutionary journey they are enriched by a hot and sensuous bittersweet cinnamon heart note, which marks this perfume with an elegant and romantic sweetness. In the bottom notes, an earthy patchouli and a cozy warm and slightly powdery amber, blend with the previous notes creating a fantastic strong spicy oriental setting. The initial spices soften slowly, making the oriental nature of the fragrance more salient during the long drydown. This one is triangulated solely by cinnamon, patchouli and amber. The longevity is immense, having exceeded 10 hours in any of my 2 sprays applications. The sillage reaches 8+ feet but with an unnatural high persistence, ensuring a strong projection for more than 4 hours. Experiencing and testing this perfume without having read or heard any opinion about it before, has been a remarkable experience. I felt like a prospector who unexpectedly found some gold nuggets. But what you get out of this fragrance, it's pure masculinity, with no metrosexual or unsisex vibes at all. It's not a fragrance for boys as well. I picture confident men of 30 and up, wearing it in formal occasions, and having a very elegant, unique and distinguished scent around him. The message it passes is one of sophistication, class, seriousness, experience and maturity. I guess the house of Maboussin is in full swing due to the remarkable quality of its last editions, and this Private Club perfume will be a great success for sure. As far as I'm concerned, I found my new Autumn scent. Since I know I'm going to use it a lot, I'd better buy a backup bottle. I'm curious about the result of the math test: - Scent opening 9.25 (irreproachable) - Scent Dry Down 9.75 (near perfect) - Longevity 9.25 (10+ hours on my skin, with 2 sprays) - Sillage 9.5 (sillage of 8+ feet; it projects for 4.0 hours with 2 sprays) - Versatility 8.5 (quite versatile, although not a solution for summer days or any type of hot weather) - Usability 9.0 (avoid the beach, the gym or any activities where you may sweat; very good for formal events, evening wear, night out and clubbing) - Compliments 8.5 (people will notice you as distinct, elegant, sophisticated and sexy but not cute; above average compliments by the ladies) - Uniqueness 9.0 (reasonably unique; I picked up the vibes stated in the text above) - Quality 9.5 (well above average quality ingredients; magnific smooth blending; Issue: the cap is so tight to the bottle that it seems to be glued and disaster may happen with the huge effort needed to uncap the flask) - Presentation 10.0 (one of the best I have ever seen) - Price 9.5 (100 ml EDP flask - €26,00 in ShowroomPrivé) - Average: 9.25/10.00 (wooow!) between 7 and 8 => above average; between 8 and 9 => recommended; equal or bigger than 9 => don't miss it; My conclusion: A fantastic perfume in an awesome flask, One of my best blind buys ever. Been using this as my daily for a week now; and it is indeed an apparant "generic blue" fragrance, but that is not a bad thing as you do get a quality dupe at a fair price. Performance is okay, nothing outstanding - lasts about 8 hours or so on the skin and 12-16 hours on clothes with a good 2 hours (more or less) of decent projection; sometimes you get a faint aroma from the shirt next day but you really have to stick your nose on it. What really caught me off-guard is how closely the dry down resembles aqva atlantique to my nose, which is my absolute favourite; this is what sold this for me. Althought quite versatile, will be keeping this as a daily work frag; but would not wear it for something special or formal since it doesn't really seem like a posh dress-up night scent. All in all, not bad. Update: Please ignore what I said previously, the performace seems to be quite bad now, is almost undetectable after a couple hours of spraying unless you stick your nose to the spot you sprayed, IF you sprayed on the same spot twice that is! On the skin is even worse; the projection/sillage is further abysmal ofcourse. I kind of agree now with @dmd63 and @davidutud POV, don't know how people are getting good performance off this. On the other hand, the smell is nothing special either, I almost feel criminal to have compared it with bvlgari aqva atlantique. In short, avoid if you can as it's quite underwhelming in all aspects.

Private Club for Men Mauboussin is one of the best fragrances I came accros. This fragrance is so sexy and mature at the same time. Its scent is unbelievable. It has a very good performance and silage which are typical for an Eau de Parfum. The closest similarities to this fragrance are Versace Eros and Kenzo Homme Night but in a mature way. Also the look of the bottle (a jewelry) and the packaging are very eye catchy. And for the price of 23 EUR on Amazon it is absolutely a must have. I have bought 2 back up bottles before they are discontinued. This fragrance is a must have for those who want to be unique in every detail. This can be worn easily in any month of the year for any kind of occasion. By the way, the ones who have mentioned that they have problems with the cap of the fragrance, you need to twist the cap first so you can pick the cap and pull it up to remove it.

I saw this fragrance on YouTube where it is often described as a mixture between Dylan Blue and YSL La Nuit de l'Homme Parfum. As I like both fragrances and Private Club is not the most expensive fragrance, I bought it. And what can I say, it's all in the mix! The subtle fusion of refreshing citrus notes with warm, woody accords and cinnamon create a fragrance signature that is simply timeless. The longevity on my skin is impressive and the nuances develop in a fascinating way. A lovely cologne, a nice and alluring mix between YSL Body Kouros and Mont Blanc Emblem Intense. It’s quite sweet but dry at the same time, youthful and definitely long lasting. This is how an edp should perform. Cinnamon and apple really shine with a strong support of a spicy and oriental base. Many so called “designer” or “niche” brands should learn from Mauboussin (and a few others cheap brands) how an edp should be done and perform correctly in the first place. The plastic cap is perhaps the sore point, however, just turn it a little to be able to grab it by the three tips and pull it upwards and it will come off without too much effort.

CH212, ZDIE & Private Club are like Identical Triplets. They ARE the same, but different in their own ways. All are peppery, but Carolina is more Boozy & Fruity, Zara is Sweet & Smoky and Mauboussin is a handful of pepper blown in your face. All executions smell AMAZING If you like one, you like all 3. Don't be like me and own all 3 out of curiosity, they are redundant Also, Zara's atomizer is tragic. Mauboussin why is your top like that?

It's a spicy and woody perfume that is growing on me. Give this time, it gets better. This is an attractor. Don't dismiss this at first. It's a good parfum. *Update* Yes, this is a masculine juice with a good performance and effective silage. There is quite a lot going on deep down here, almost a woody aniseed. Close your eyes and smell the silage. It's now a love from me.

Worst cap in the entire perfume world. And whoever 2nd place is (I nominate Armaf Hunter Intense) it's not even close. I really really enjoy the scent and it lasts a long time. I actually bought 5 bottles because they were the last 5 I could find, so if anyone is interested and can't find it, message me for either a decant sample or a full bottle [I ship from Europe]

Perhaps the closest scent to this is CH 212 VIP! Not the same but, of this type. The best opening I've ever smell but only for first 2-3 minutes. Sillage and longevity are 10/10. 100% for night club! if you want Eros, Ultra Male, Spicebomb or 1 million looks like toilet air freshener you must have this, because this one has the top class and quality.

Spicy and sexy smell. I like it, definitely a scent for men... not for boys. This is the kind of perfume that grows in you. It starts good, it became great and probably will reach awesome. Nice compliments from ladies already happened just by testing it at the office. I want to test it further before making a proper review.

I can detect a light blue scent well complimented by some yummy spices. If Versace Dylan Blue and Spicebomb had a baby, he would look like Private Club. Too hot to wear it now, can't wait for the cooler days. 4/5. PS : If you can't bench 225lb for reps, unfortunately you won't be able to open the cap.

Alexandra did fantastic job with this fragrance, making cardamom so well blended (and Im not a huge fan of cardamom) with red apple and cinammon so it has that "pineapple" effect (when you slice fresh pineapple and first blast of the smell comes out). Its easy to wear, all year rounder.

Blind purchased this perfume since I am a lover of Mauboussin fragrances especially Pour Lui. I was not disappointed at all. As I expected, sweet very lovely fragrance and very very high performance/price ratio.

Absolutely one of the best perfumes I have tried, I have it as my signature perfume even though it shines better at night time, I also tend to use it during the day which feels totally fine.

This has matured for 2 years now and the silage waftng off this is gorgeous. It was very dry and woody but now it has become much more floral

A very pleasant blind discovery for me and it's been awhile. Very long lasting and good light sweet, spicy scent.

Mix between versace dylan blue and dior sauvage

I blind bought this a month or so ago as I liked the look of the notes, the bottle and the positive reviews. However I just yesterday posted it to it's new owner, it's no doubt a very nice fragrance but it just didn't wow me. I wear fragrances for myself, scents that I find uplifting, interesting, empowering and so on. I find that this doesn't do any of that for me, however it will be pleasant to others around you, no doubt about that! I wholeheartedly recommend trying this one out to people who like for example Dior Sauvage (EDP or Parfum) or Versace Dylan Blue but want something a little more elegant yet no less versatile. Bear in mind that this is less heavy on the sharp citrus and is somewhat more refined (in my opinion) and smells of high quality. For me though it's a pass. I only want stuff in my collection that I *really* look forward to wearing (or even just sniffing now and again) only instant favourites will make the cut! Scent:7 Sillage/projection:7 Longevity:8 Presentation:9 Three words summary: Modern, classy, versatile.

I have to laugh at the reviewers below who struggle pulling the cap off these bottles. Its really not that complicated... A simple 1/4 turn or twist of the cap, so that now the corners of the cap are no longer aligned with the edges of the bottle, allows you to get a small grip underneath the corners of the cap with your fingers, then just pull up. Amazing. The cap comes off like any other perfume bottle cap.

The scent is good with strong sillage and long-lasting, A very good fragrance in terms of the price/quality ratio.

Private Club is that "exclusive" club that literally everyone can enter -- less upscale country club and more Costco... It's a fragrance that has something for everyone, but in having something for everyone, some note is bound to not agree with another or its wearer. IMO, this is what you get when you start with the spicy, red chile/cashmeran backbone from Azzaro Hot Pepper, and layer the cardamom/pepper accord from La Nuit de l'Homme (or Crabtree & Evelyn Persian The) and then top it all off with a pinch of that cloying pineapple/amber accord from Liz Claiborne Curve. Overall, I think this is indisputably most similar to Hot Pepper, just a bit too busy. That said, it's not terrible, just kind of overrated by my fellow fragranticans. Compared with Private Club, I think that each of the aforementioned presents a clearer, more coherent idea of what its creator was after. Private Club is just a bit all over the place. And no, it's nothing like Eros (thank goodness!) or Dylan Blue (wth?) in any appreciable way. (I've owned both and have worn DB extensively, so I think I'd know.) Not even close to LP9, either. Nah, closest thing by far is Azzaro Hot Pepper, and for what it is, I think AHP has it all over this stuff, and for a similar price. I would truthfully put this somewhere between "OK" and "Like." Let's call it a "Meh-Plus." EDIT: Spraying this more finely and/or from a distance really helps spread out the scent to where the better parts come through better. Reminds me even more of AHP now. It's a "like," but I think I'd still like it better stripped down a bit, except for maybe something coniferous added for depth. No one will be the wiser.

This was my second blind buy of a Mauboussin fragrance following Discovery, and perhaps because that impressed me so much I found it this disappointing. Allegedly a 'warm, spicy, amber' fragrance it smells like a generic 'blue' scent to my nose and I detect little except a note of red apple. Dry-down is pleasant clean, 'sport' scent with a trace of patchouli but it's not going to make a lasting impression in any private club. Reminiscent to me of Dunhill Desire (Red) but much weaker. If you're looking for an apple scent for autumn/winter nights I'd choose that. And if you haven't tried Mauboussin I'd go for Discovery, much stronger, better value, and an Aventus vibe.

There’s a clear similarity to Elysium at the start but this has a juvenile bubblegummy accords in the drydown. Super boring.

I had such high hopes for this perfume. The ratings and the notes made me think this could be the nirvana of scents. Add to this the almost impossible task to get a hold of a bottle, and you end up with expectations a bit higher than Mount Everest. When finally receiving the bottle, the myth continued. It was an almost impossible task to open the lid. First of all, it wasn't all that clear where the bottle ended and the lid started. Second: when clearifying that, it was still a battle opening it. You had to twist and turn and coax and sweet talking to the bottle to get it open. Finally, a spray on the back of the hand and then ... meh!? ... I get a ton of pepper. I don't get any cinnamon, no amber and no cardamom or anything else. But wait, there's another ton of pepper! I can literally smell nothing else than pepper in this scent. I read someone described it as "light sweet spicy scent", which leads me to think there's something wrong with my bottle. I usually spot cinnamon, amber and cardamom pretty easy, but it is absolutely vanished here. Of course, I will need to buy another bottle.

Good fruity scent, but nothing special. Blind buy after reading the reviews. First and last! Has absolutely no power, nothing!! No projection, no silage, no nothing. It seats very close the body, so close that one will not notice it at all. Save your $, really. Edit: Good to waste in the gym, this is a bullsh.t perfume.

I tried this perfume and two perfumes of the same brand, unfortunately it was an artificial smell

after purging nearly 50% of my collection, i decided to purchase this as my last hoorah to 2020. I'd been trying to find this since the release, but trying to obtain it in the USA was difficult. Alas, i was able to find a bottle on ebay for $70usd - which i know is quite the markup, but since it cant be found, i accepted it. I'm glad i did. While i'll say this isnt a totally unique fragrance - it is a totally satisfying one! It seems to pull bits and pieces from many scents i've smelled in the past - but not enough to muddy the waters. I smell hints of dylan blue, l'homme, spicebomb etc. it's truly a beautiful scent - albeit not terribly complicated. It just smells damn good. I'd suggest grabbing it if you can find it. Even at $70, i think you'll find its well worth it.

Opening: Scroll through the reviews and trust the ones that call it fruity and artificial, because it is fruity and artificial. The comparisons to Halloween Man seem apt, because that really is what it reminds me of. Heart: A slight coffee-ish note pokes through, which is likely how people are reminded of Uomo Signature. Base: Fades into an ambigouos artificial amber note. Patchouli nowhere to be found. Overall, it's certainly one of the fragrances of all time. I don't see myself wearing this and it warrants an "ok" rating, but it's forgettable otherwise. In all honesty, if perfumers actually want to build a portfolio for themselves and have their names remembered, they need to stop creating releases like this. Do something different, do something else.

You know what is one of the most prominent and sometimes difficult notes in a perfume? Patchouli! And Mauboussin is using that very much. But what a good one they use. Private club is a typical patchouli performe. It is not to strong and not smelling synthetic. The warm notes of Coriander pepper and the fresh prominent cardamon and bergamot make a great opening. This perfume is elegant and very gentle. Then it turn in some typical fresh-sour spicy note that reminds you of apple-pie with cinnamon. It turn then into that amber like patchouli mix. This perfume is always to use and timeless. it has class and style and gives some dignity. yes this is also a great one, subtle, casual but special too. Greta class.

Same as @dmd63 mentioned. I don't know why most people rated this as a "Strong & long lasting" fragrance, when legit as soon as you spray it, you can feel its smell in your room for 20 minutes and then that's it.

got a free travel size of it, dont love it dont hate it, longevity is decent, sillage is also pretty good, generic as hell scent but for the price its pretty good. 7/10.

Opening is boring spicy amber, almost smells unfinished. Let it dry down and it gets better. But it's still only a 6.5/10
