Hypnotique

I just bought a 60s vintage bottle of this! My mom passed away recently, and when I was a little kid I remember this was her special perfume that she only wore when she was going to dinner with my dad, and she would always let me put a little bit on, so I could be glamorous as well! It still smells exactly like what I remember, and I was lucky enough to find the exact same bottle design that she had. It's a beautiful way to remember my mom.

I agree with other reviewers: this one's in the same arena as Chanel No.5 as far as aldehydes go. I have a vintage Sophisti-cat dabber, which I transferred into a spray vial (I went for two sprays, but one spray would have done it :p). Hypnotique is warm and certainly has that Old Hollywood vibe; you could imagine a screen siren in leopard print wearing this, with her red almond-shaped nails and a mink fur stole. Hypnotique is a sexy vintage, but it's bright enough from the aldehydes and citrus to be worn in the summer. Very lovely piece of perfume history, and totally worth it for collectors (for scent and for the price!). A hidden gem for sure. The more you wear it the warmer and sexier it gets. I can't wait to try other vintages from Max Factor. Primitif is next on my list.

I had bought this frag as a teen in the 80's. Little did I know it was a vintage from the late 50's. One of my mother's friends went absolutely bonkers and offered to pay me up to 25 bucks for a small decant bottle that cost $5. I said "no". I liked it that much that I didn't give it away.....actually , I would have most likely sold it for 50.....but..... I remember this as a very mellow fragrance, as if there was no alcohol in it, like it was a fragrant tea. Very musky, lightly floral, very sexy scent, yes..... hypnotic, if you will. I'd like to purchase it again, if I could find it.

A lovely floral chypre. The dry down resembles Chanel No. 5, only smoother and warmer. Not sure how the scent of a freshly opened flacon would be, but even my vintage is beautiful. H. opens with bold florals and dries down fast, leaving a soft feminine trace. Not as overwhelming as one might expect, H. is work safe.

Big stars like Rita Hayworth was a perfumista and collected many fragrances. Hypnotique is an old Hollywood glamourous boudoir type of scent. It's really quite simple but not always easy to wear. I think of it as being something that would have smelled amazing on Elizabeth Taylor or Sophia Loren. This is indeed a hypnotic perfume. The scent casts a spell and you're transported back to when perfume was perfume. The opening is fresh summer citrus. I detected lemon and bergamot orange notes. It's a tad similar to Shalimar or really good aftershave. Then I smelled some white flowers, a mix of gardenia, tuberose and jasmine. I like white flower scents so for me this is a treat. It has a very old fashioned Fracas type of vibe. It's all about those lush white florals with a heavy tuberose. A white wedding bouquet. The dry down becomes woodsy although no wood is listed as being part of the notes. There is musk and even civet. It's spicy, floral and musky. Very elegant and glamorous, although it does tend to remind one of Church lady perfume. I bought this for my mother and she loves it. I do like it myself and dab on a little sometimes, especially at night for a formal dinner. For me there just is no such thing as a bad perfume. And this is certainly not a bad one.

Mmmmm... a bit skankier and stronger than vintage No. 5 Cologne. Which is good news for me! I love anything that smells like a time machine. ;) Similar to the big vintages- No. 5 cologne, My Sin, Primitif-- aldehydes and animal civet/musk heaven on top of florals. Powdery animal sweetness. There seems to be a bit of spice to this, making it spicier than No. 5. (mind you, this is only similar/alike to vintage Chanel No. 5 in cologne formulation.) I've smelled this before, BUT-- they don't make perfumes like this anymore, so therefore I love it and will prob start hoarding affordable bottles that pop up on ebay. Longevity for the Parfum Cologne is kinda meh. But on par with the other oldie colognes.

I found a vintage bottle with a black cap and faceted glass bottle in a second hand store in the Dandenong’s in ‘24 . It is warm, floral and powdery. I get no citrus notes, they have most likely degraded over the decades. There is a hard edge to it which could be the oakmoss, the animal notes make me want snuggle into my Nona’s fur stole I also have Geminesse (Mum wore this) by Max Factor which isn’t listed in the database. It’s a love for cold winter days.

It's to old fashioned smelling for me. I do not like aldehydes or animal smells. Starts of oak moss and pepper and aldehydes. It dries down to a ambery musk scent. Not my thing but it was a gift from my grandmother. Sophisticat version. I have the pink one with pearls. I love black cats so that's why she gave it to me.

Ah, nostalgia! I haven't seen this one in YEARS! I thought it was discontinued. Does anyone know? This was the only scent that I wore when I was fourteen years old, and the scent could not be mistaken for anything else.

Soapy aldehydes. Gorgeous. Like a watered down chanel no 5. If chanel sold this it would sell for hundreds of pounds. I love it
