Le Jardin d'Amour

Helen, you're so right! The new juice is a mere shadow of the powerhouse this used to be. Don't despair, just keep your eyes open for the same red-capped bottle in the photo above at on-line auction sites, where I was lucky enough to find mine. I do think this has become more popular as it's become more rare, even though it was pretty enough originally but truly no great masterpiece. That said, it is a strong, aldehyde-rich floral that lasts all day, and that's not something to quickly dismiss with so many newer releases fading into nothingness shortly after application. Deceptively simple, this old gem opens as any ordinary light floral that features rose & lily of the valley but it soon morphs into a more mature and yes, darker fragrance as amber, sandalwood and cedar come drifting up from the basenotes. The florals nearly disappear and what's left is sultry and delicious. Worth being patient until an original bottle surfaces.

I had this perfume when I was in highschool and loved it. I agree with some of the reviewers who say that it's totally different but unlike some of them I actually love the new smell too. The confusion is in bringing something back with the same name and bottle but completely different smell. The original was more floral and suited me at that age. This new formulation suits me now and is less floral. The orris root and woodiness is more prominent. Like it's matured with me. Amazing value for money and handy size bottle. At this price, no harm in trying and in my opinion, it smell expensive and exclusive.

I loved, loved, loved this one! I must have gotten my first bottle when I was 13-14. In the beginning,it was very flowery and fresh, but turned into something extremely dark and mysterious. I managed to get hold of a small bottle just before it discontinued, and if I come across it again, I'll buy it - I'd probably feel a little out of place wearing it now, but I'd like to have it just to remember chilly October nights, climbing around in forest ravines wearing a floor-length dress ...what? Didn't everyone do that in high school? Oh.

My grandad used to buy this for my birthday every year until he died. I still have my bottle from 1988. He died in 1989. His birthday is today, December 22nd, and I wear it once a year for today only. It's very special to me and it has aged wonderfully. I miss him all the time, but once a year we get to spend the day together thanks to this nostalgic perfume. In its current 35-year-old state, it reminds me very much of vintage Poison. This is one of the very first fragrances I fell in love with as a child and took every opportunity to sniff it at the local Chemists, whenever I ran an errand for my mum. And I still love it in it's vintage form today, as it's a kind of relative of Poison and Lou Lou.

I love my vintage bottle with its cute metallic sticker. Reminds me of a Leonard silk scarf. Smells a bit like Poison or Lumiere. VERY 80s. Nice!

Very elegant,rose dominant,little sweet. I love this fragrance,its very original not popular. Longevity 10/10.

What a beautiful fragrance! I recently acquired this treasure and I am going to try my hardest to make it last. I don't ever want to be without it in my hoard again! This is a perfect example to prove that a perfume can be both inexpensive and exquisite. Immediately after spritzing it on, I am hit like a freight train by an amazing, luscious, divine, heady, decadent bouquet of the most delicious flowers I've ever smelled. Enraptured is the only way to describe how I feel when I spray this precious juice on. My mean skin - that loves to eat all of my favorite scents - goes to work pronto, so sillage is not that great. I definitely think arms length is the max it travels. My husband is only a step or two away from me and can't tell that I'm wearing perfume at all. That is so sad...This is so delicious everyone should get to enjoy it! The floral notes pretty much hit me full force and all at once, and lucky for me, they stick around for a while. I must confess, I'm getting lightheaded from sniffing my wrist! As time passes the base notes start to warm up, most noticeably the woods for me. Maybe a hint of amber and maybe, just maybe, a whisper of musk. I'm not getting vanilla, but I'm actually relieved because my hubby hates vanilla...it causes him to have sneezing attacks. So far so good, with no sneezing. Overall, I would have to say this is on my "LOVE" list, and the vast majority of my perfumes only make the "like" list. I think we have the beginning of an intense addiction here. By all means, if you LOVE florals and haven't tried this, do so! I really think you'll be glad you did. When the scent is almost gone...in a mere 3 hours I can't even smell it hardly at all on my wrist...I am at least left with a comforting memory and can look forward to my next spritz! P.S. I just figured out what this is reminding me of! When I was a kid, every year for her birthday and Christmas, my Dad helped us kids buy my Mom some highly perfumed, luxurious bath oil pearls. They had a high quality fragrance oil in them, even I could tell that as a kid and pre-teen. This perfume brings those bath beads, and all the memories associated with them, to my mind. Isn't smell memory awesome? I have always had the best memory recall when it involved a specific scent.

I smell honey... a dark honey note in the vintage/original fragrance. First I thought it was patchouli in it that mingled so well with the rose, but now I'm not so sure... Maybe it is the rosewood + sweet floral notes that creates that dark honey smell? Also, a lovely ylang ylang note is quite apparent. Apart from the linear performance and moderate sillage I think this fragrance is quite fabolous. If you find a little vintage, buy it and try it. It is a very good one. :)

I like it. It's a very 80/90ties sharp aldehyde scent. The sharpness reminds me of coco Mademoiselle. For the rest it's a complete different perfume. Light floral the rose is coming through after 30 minutes of wearing but mostly the sharp aldehyde is what i smell. It's harsh and you have to like such kind of smell. Not for everyone. Longtivity is about 2-3 hours with moderate projection.

Strange scent. I mostly get the powder and musk notes. Mysterious and sexy, but there's an underlying feel of something metallic and fake. It's a perfume that would either be worn by a grandma or a goth trying to appear normie at work. Reminiscent of a night in an enchanted garden where a murder took place.

I have a sample. --- Powder, wood and benzoin. The other notes are there but these are the most prominent aspects. Sexy in a sort of dark, sort of distant way, but not too distant. The powder notes prevent it from becoming mostly distant. I like it and it's unusual!

a nice dry floral aldehyde with vanilla and a hint of fruity tone in the top then a deep/darkness from musk, sandalwood, benzoin; rose in the base and powdery from the orris in the final drydown

Very similar to Agent Provocateur AP for me...just a little bit more wearable than AP

I bought a set with this and le jardin together. So far with this one it’s not quite what I expected from other reviews, I’m finding it very soapy, which is not really usually my thing. I’m not getting really any of the notes listed except soapy musk and maybe slight rose... no Amber, woody notes or fruity notes.... will try again with different temperature (very cold today) and see if I get anything different. So far it’s just literal plain soap to me....

It is now made by EdenClassics - not Max Factor as such anymore. I bought this today in search of the warm/rose/floral/balsamic scent from my early elementary school years and... it's totally different! The bottle looks similar (as in the ad) and so does the box, but it smells like Paloma Picasso/Ysatis kind of thing - which is not bad but totally different from what it used to be 25 years ago!

A nice and a bit softer version of Agent Provocateur L'agent. No sweet notes at all, alot of woodsynotes in a good way. Not typical femalish scent - almost an unisex. En trevlig och lite mjukare version av Agent Provocateur L'agent. Inga söta doftnoter alls, mycket träiga noter på ett bra sätt. inte typiskt kvinnlig -nästan lite unisex.

It's the most horrible perfume I have ever had, my brother offered me a gift set of Le Jardin d'amour, le jardin smells really nice, it reminds me of Anais Anais de Cacharel but this d'amour is just awful!!

I had this when I was about 17/18 years old. But this one smells different and I don't like it (the bottle is different as well). Luckily I found a small bottle of the original perfume :-)

Aldehyds, nailpolish remover, rubber and cat pee. Another very bad blind buy. My bottle was the reformulated one from "Eden Classics".

I saw this at a bargain price on one of the fragrance sites here in the UK and, at that price, thought perhaps it was worth risking a blind buy. I read the reviews for it on here and could see that some people raved about it, and that there was a sprinkling of VERY negative reviews for it, so it seemed it's a love/hate kind of perfume. I then discovered I could get an even cheaper tester bottle of it so I went ahead and ordered one, along with a bottle of Revlon's Love Is On, also at a knockdown price. OMG ... MISTAKE x 100! Both perfumes are stinkers, in different ways! This perfume, Le Jardin D'Amour REEKS to high heaven! I knew it's probably created from the 80s maybe, or somewhere round about there, so I knew it would have a certain retro vibe but, my god, whatever, it's just REVOLTING to my nose! It's one of those massively heavy, potent perfumes that some women for some crazy reason seem to adore and insist on dousing themselves in, suffocating everyone around them, as well as insects, wildlife, plants, etc! I think it must be the aldehydes and benzoin that give this perfume a metallic'y, industrial cleaner vibe (not unlike Kouros, which I detest as well!) and I certainly don't smell any lovely flowers like roses (which supposedly it has) in it, nor do I smell any decipherable fruits (except maybe stinky, rotting, putrid ones!). To be honest, this smelled so nasty from sniffing the neck of the bottle and then spritzing a little in the air that I didn't dare try it on ,my skin so I have no idea whether it evolves into something wonderful, and that I might actually like, if only a little, on my skin. I'm brave but not THAT brave !!!! I do realise though that a perfume like this would be good to use as an occasional bathroom killer of stinky poopy'ness, or mustiness or whatever, as it will totally drown out and kill any other 'aromas' ! ! So, given how utterly REPULSIVE I find this awful blind buy perfume, I'm very glad I only paid about £2.50 UK for my little tester bottle of it but still, it's like throwing money down the toilet and that's where this perfume also belongs!

There were only two perfumes I simply loved during my childhood through my teen years and they were LeJardin Damour in the black ovalish bottle, and Paris by Yves Saint Laurent. Both have sinse been reformulated& I refuse to buy the new cersions of these. Recently I found a bottle LeJardin Damour on online auction site the seller listed it as "having been collecting dust in the drawer sinse the 80 s." so I purchased it hoping it was indeed old, and Im happy to find it actually must be original! It smells just like I remember from school. I wore it every other day from 1988-1993, alternating with Paris, then never found it again until today. Someone on here helped me remember its nsme thanks so much! Now I have a full size of this LeJardin from 1987, and a little travel bottle of original Paris also, also sold online by someone who got it & dislikes it in the 80's and just got arnd to selling. Ill be getting a full sized Paris soon, and more LeJardin if I can find vintage. This is strong scented stuff& lasts on me. I have never smelled florals in it to me its like wine and Its not soapy to me one bit. I love bold scents no one around me ever wears or can find. I do well with odd scents, its the ones everyone likes that seem to smell bad on me, like Happy or Opium. Now to locate some original Poison as well.

Absolutely vile! I bought this thinking it would smell the same as it did originally in the late 80s. Oh, how wrong I was. I sprayed it on this morning and it smelt like a cheap air freshener had been sprayed to cover the smell of vomit. I foolishly thought I would give it a chance for the smell to change (for the better) but it never happened, so I had to scrub it off my wrists. And it took a lot of scrubbing, let me tell you. Not sure if it just does not suit my skin, so I am going to pass it on to my mum to see if she gets on with it. I have the updated Le Jardin and that smells pretty much like I remember, but this is a real stinker on me.

I don't think it can be found these days in stores as Max factor stopped producing perfumes just after 2 fragrances. but I had a little sample of it which is finished 5 years ago.so what I write about the perfume,is just my memory. personally I didn't find it memorable.it was just about flowers.nothing fruity nor spicy which make it funnier. although the box was very nice to my childish eyes,the scent wasn't suitable for a young teenager.it lacks something that make it unique. later I discovered "les belles de ricci" by nina ricci.the bottles were quite shaped and looked like jardin d'amour and the scent within were much better than this one.

oh this is lovely! smells like vintage lipsticks! that was my first thought when i sniffed the cap, wich is perfect considering max factor immediately makes me think of marilyns perfect red pout. i imagine this is how the lovechild of agent provocateur and lanvin arpege would smell like. its a swoon worthy fragrance... on my skin i get fancy aldehydes mixed with heady ylang ylang and powdery roses. its so fluffy! yup, i feel like a goddess wearing this. or possibly a cute young lady driving a hot rod. too glam to give a damn! hah!

I loved the original of this, which was in a more delicately artistic box than the one pictured here. Although the fragrance stayed the same, sadly it's lasting power did not, either in the bottle or on the skin. A very feminine, warm floral, not to be ignored, which drew an appreciative, "Mmmm... you smell NICE!" from a total stranger. How I wish that when a company sells out to another, they would put a clause in the contract to stop the newby from changing the formulae. I'm fed up with buying same name rip-offs!

I do sometimes find this wonderful perfume which was very popular amongst the ladies it was readily available at one time then all of a sudden it disappeared which was absolutely dreadful I do so wish they would bring back the perfume the way it once was not the wishy washy mega disappointing one that seems to be in the shops occasionally This perfume was always a welcome present especially at Christmas for all the ladies in the family

I wasn't expecting much from this, based on price and the less than pricey looking bottle. But I spritzed it on and I really, really like it. It's smells much more expensive and sophisticated than it is. Almost in the same family as Aromatics Elixer, albeit a different scent, but sexy and earthy in the same way. After I sprayed it on, everyone who's walked past my desk has commented, "Ooh, it smells nice." So, I guess it works for me!

This is a beautiful fragrance, woody, floral and spicy. Strangely, it is very like a weaker version of Pure Grace by Philosophy. Pure Grace is packaged as a colourless/ white scent, reminiscent of clean fresh linen. Yet, it is a very close match to Le Jardin d'amour. It is worth saying that this version of LJd'a is not much like the original 80s version - that was more floral, not woody like the modern version. Both are lovely.

I remember the original smelling much different to this. The original was definitely a bit wow and for evening wear. The reformulation smells exactly like Ponds cold cream. Exactly! AND for those of you who don't know what that smells like. Rose water is the nearest I can think of. I bought it to remember my youth....but it is going on Ebay.....Yuk...I feel like I have a face covered in cold cream from the smell.

Does anyone know where I can get this now? This was my favourite perfume ever and it suddenly disappeared. It was the only scent that hasnt affected my bronchitis. I thought it was a romantic perfume, it always made me feel sexy, and drove my boyfriend wild too. I remember this as having a fizzy drink kind of smell - something like Irn Bru? (sorry, definite Scottish/UK reference there!). I'm tempted to buy the current 'day and night' twin pack offering of this and the original Le Jardin. 🤔 I don't remember being impressed by the original at the time but my tastes have definitely changed recently so am curious. Hmm, might be a bad blind buy, not sure ...

I had a bottle of this as a little girl back around 1988/89 my mum turned the artistic lid with metallic floral decal (unlike the new edition in the picture) into a decorative lamp in my barbie house. I still remember the smell of it reminds me of Avon 'pearls and lace' from that time as well powdery musky florals I had a mini roller ball of that one don't think it is listed in the database.

It reminds me an old friend who usually wore it when we were teenagers.It was a clear,crisp smell,rare to find nowadays. Upd: The new version(by Eden Classics) is a really different perfume, a darker and melancholic lipstick rose, miles away from the aldehydic and fresher version in the dark bottle with the metallic cap. But it stills keeps alive the romance twist.

Me and aldehydes a big No, I just don't like it when it's aldehydes in a perfume. Yes it reminds of Agent Provocateur but the smell is annoying me, aldehydes and something soapy. Thank you Mooniq for the sample.

I bought a box which had this and Le Jardin. I bought the same set for my mom. She loved d'Amour and I loved the original, so I gave her my d'Amour and she gave me her Le Jardin :) Win-win

Jardin d'Amour, it's a bit of a 80s style scent. Deep rose ambre. It was made in 1986, you can find similarity to Paloma Picasso eau de toilette. Excellent durability 12 hours.

I recently bought this from an online perfume place. It was not the same as we all obviously remember. Very disappointing.
