First and foremost I am huge fan of Maxim's Pour Homme, which I feel to be an outstanding men's chypre; old-school, masculine and bold...yet, not one bit dated and with plenty of soft, welcoming, charm - 5 stars IMO. Sadly, Maxim's offers only three perfumes with Orphee being their other men's fragrance. Although I am not as excited about the freshies--in this case an aromatic fougere--I do like or love quite a few, so I pulled the trigger when I found it at a reasonable price. Additionally, I so much enjoyed xoxoMyke's review that I just had to judge for myself. I have worn Orphee twice so far, but I will update my thoughts or feelings should they change. In a nutshell, Orphee smells somewhat familiar and it reminds me of an amalgam of summery/aquatic scents that I have smelled over the years such as Calvin Klein CK One, Etienne Aigner X-Limited, Nautica Voyage, etc. - not identical, but they live in the postal area and leans more on the citrus-aromatic/aquatic size than aromatic-fougere IMO. Speaking of watermelon... The first time I wore Ophree, I noticed a great deal of that citrus-aromatic/aquatic vibe with a prominent green apple note and not watermelon. Moreover, I detected a generic type of cantaloupe vibe and some fresh mint. However, the second time I wore Orphee (morning this time vice evening) I was greeted with a noticeable watermelon accord at the opening along with, surprisingly, a momentary hint (10%) of that Creed Millesime Imperial vibe. Again, the MI vibe was FLEETING, at best, and it does not remind me of this classic summertime gem. While I did detect watermelon, it was not the juicy sun-ripened watermelon I was expecting. Instead, it smelled and tasted like Jolly Rancher watermelon hard candy. Performance for this fragrance is as expected in that it lasted 5-hours on my skin and sits soft to moderate. In the end, I find Orphee to be a pleasant, non-offensive, minty-sweet, citrus-aromatic type scent that is is perfect for the warm weather days. It is not likely to offend anyone, but it is not likely to be noticed and garner compliments. Although I enjoy having it in my Scent Armory (difficult to find)...fragrances such as CK One, Nautica Voyage do just as good of a job, or better, for less money. I do like Orphee, but it is not Maxim's Pour Homme. Moreover, if you're looking for an inexpensive people-pleasing watermelon fragrance then Carolina Herrera Chic for Men is a better option. Cheers!

This is a fragrance I discovered online back in 2013 when I was searching for a men’s fragrance with a dominant watermelon note. There is little about this fragrance online. As of July 2017, there are the three reviews on Fragrantica, and only one of those reviews actually discusses the fragrance. Of course, this review is a generic sentence claiming the fragrance is a “fresh fruity smell.” There are four reviews on Basenotes yet all four contradict each other. One says the fragrance is “fresh, fruity, summery”, a second says the fragrance is similar to Kenneth Cole Reaction with less sour apple, one says it’s a watermelon bubblegum scent, and the final review says it smells like Eaux de Caron Pure Caron. There are also a few threads on Basenotes where users have inquired about a cologne with a dominant watermelon note and several users heralded Maxim's Orphée as a “watermelon bomb.” ▪ Well, I finally purchased the fragrance for $30, and I’m finally ready to review. I’m happy to know the truth. This fragrance does not smell anything like watermelon. The initial spray smells of the sour musk in KC Reaction before a very intense, fresh, spicy mint note takes over. There’s an underlying sweetness that I’m sure the perfumers want you think is watermelon, but it’s not any watermelon I’ve smelled. It’s not aqueous or fruity like a watermelon. Orphée is spicy, bright, clean, and sweet. It’s very appropriate for office wear. Its longevity is close to four hours. It’s very reminiscent of Kenneth Cole Reaction, Jaguar Vision II, and Escada’s Moon Sparkle for Men. It’s less sour and less musky than Reaction. It’s sweeter than Jaguar Vision II. As for Moon Sparkle, the similarity is the extremely spicy, freshness but not as woody. While it’s nice to finally to have my curiosity anointed, I will be honest and say I’m not impressed, and, rather, I'm completely, utterly, and totally disappointed. I wanted a fresh watermelon scent. Instead, I got a higher quality KC Reaction. It's a great masculine scent, but it's not the watermelon fragrance everyone makes it out to be.

Very interesting Maxim's de Paris eau de toilette ! Love so much the fragrance Orphee , " very elegant " and the design bottle " very Pierre Cardin ".I hope that one day a new perfume of this famous Maxim's house will be created !I hope...

Where can you purchase it? How can you have it ship to the united states from Paris France . Do they still sell it in new york I wonder ? I purchase it for my boyfriend there about 7 years ago on vacation and can not find it anywhere.
