Nordic Cedar

This is my favorite of all Maya's fragrance. I initially blew it off as being just another dry cedar fragrance and proceeded to fall in love with the other fragrances. Later, when I walked in the room I smelled something intoxicating! I put it on and bought it within an hour. This is not your average cedar fragrance. It's not overly dry or pencil shaving-like. It smells clean and woody but warm. I get more of the cardamom in the opening then the patchouli and amber warm it up and add sweetness. It is utterly addicting to me. Suitable for an occasion. 100% unisex. It has fantastic longevity. Projection is soft but has it's presence. I get whiffs of it throughout my day. Whatever Maya does, it just resonates with me. This is a superb house and I will be purchasing the whole line.

Apparently I am the first to review this scent from the Maya Njie house. It is a very nice, high quality, scent. The cedar is there, very prominent, from the beginning and runs through the heart till the dry down. It is a quite sweet cedar and as the scent develops, the musk gets more and more clear and pronounced. I guess it is the cardamom that creates the sweetness. This scent reminds me of sun heated needles on a path in a forest. It is a light woody scent, light as a Scandinavian summer's eve. I wish it were sharper though, and that the sillage were stronger, bay leaf would certainly give it a nice touch, and piece of moss would create a stronger sense of mystery, but in all it is a very natural quality scent well worth the money. Thumbs up!

Maya Njie’s Nordic Cedar is a quiet feast for the nose. Woody, spicy, warm, but somehow still retains a sort of coolness, the fragrance is serious but has a playful cardamom. The scent is subtle but impactful and succeeds in Njie’s goal of recreating a memory through perfume (my sister was even obsessively smelling my wrist in hopes of figuring out where she’d smelled such a fragrance before). Like a temporary lover, just when you think Nordic Cedar has left, the wind hits your face, and you realize there are still remnants of him from the night before on your neck.

I love love love the cardamom note in Vanilj, and I really tried to get along with the perfume, but it was way too sweet for me to wear. I was so pleasantly surprised when I discovered that Nordic Cedar has exactly the same cardamom note but on a dry, woody base! Much more wearable if you're, like me, not into sugary sweet scents. I have to do some more testing, but I really do think I will need a full bottle of this.

This is very much Christmas in my book! Warm and spicy combined with the dryness of the cedar. In my opinion this would have been better if the cedar (which is delicious in this) was the star of the show, on my skin it’s very much cardamom. But it is very delicious, especially on the drydown when the edge of the cardamom has worn off. Addictive scent!

This fragrance was my introduction into the niche market. This scent is so captivating, enchanting, yet grounding. I wish I lived in a place that was more cold than hot, as this would be a signature of mine. If you like Ellis' Apres, you'll love this. This is also a great choice for the holidays if you prefer something on the fresh spicy/woody side.

This is my signature scent when the temperature drops below 0 degrees Celsius. Be careful not to overspray, a small bottle lasts a long time. It’s a masterpiece, pure ingredients, very well balanced, cold more than warm, yet sensual, and sophisticated. Can be layered over just one spray of Tom Ford Ombré Leather EDT on chest.

Nordic Cedar is a beautiful, simple but complex fragrance. It's cool and warm at the same time and can be worn anytime of the day and year for any occasion. Nordic Cedar is done very well. Very refined. I find that it last pretty long on my skin. It's one of my signature scents at the moment.

Bright cedar with patchouli, somehow sharp yet warm because of the musky base. Totally unisex but noticeably unlike anything else you generally smell on people. Really really well done. I love it, and I love the fact that I can still smell it on my skin 18h later.

A dry, clear, and beautifully aromatic cedar. A cardamon spiced wood sauna, or Japanese incense fresh out of the box.

I have a small sample of this and I traveled with it. Wore it to brunch with a friend and the waitress kept commenting on how much she enjoyed the smell. It struck me because I didn't think it was that prominent smelling and also, I wasn't sure at the time that I necessarily loved it enough to buy a bottle but that was the first time anyone had commented on something I was wearing -- and my collection is pretty big -- so I was struck by it.

This opens with a creamy cardamom paired with some dry, dusty cinnamon. The heart of this is ofc woody forward with a rustic, rugged cedarwood, and the dry down has a warm slightly animalic ambergris with some enveloping musks. The patchouli adds a sweetly powdery and earthy undercoat to the scent. This scent is warm, woody, with an earthy sweetness to it and a sensual undertone. A gorgeous scent

Not for me, because I don't really like cardamom. But I absolutely understand why people love it and if you are at least OK with cardamom, you should really give this a go! I would definitely want to smell this on someone and would compliment on it. I am a bit sad I can't wear it myself but cardamom gives me headaches.

I have the travel spray and I love it. the way Maya Njie plays with cardamom is to die for. this is very, very similar to Vanilj, just without the vanilla, so the base woods are slightly sharper and a little cooler. I already have a full bottle of Vanilj, and I don’t need both, so I might give this to a friend :)

Pleasant earthy and somewhat boozy scent with a bit of pencil shavings and soft texture in the base. It’s interesting and multidimensional. Good job! I think it will be super sexy on a man, but I could easily wear it with a right outfit too. Follow me on IG: scent.guide

I'm getting more body lotion or shaving cream from this than anything woody & warm. I was hoping for dry, pencil shaving-esque cedar, like an old wooden chest or a sauna, with warm musky spices, but I'm not getting any of that here. It's so...clean and sterile. Almost like baby wipes. The cardamon reads super bright and fresh instead of cozy, spicy, and enveloping. It's way too crisp and sharp to my nose. Not at all what I was hoping for based on the notes.

Cardamom and dodgy musk is all I get from this. It also happens to smell exactly the same as Vanilj from the same perfumer. The cedar is undetectable and much better cardamom perfumes exist.

Both Nordic Cedar and Vanilj feature prominent cardamom which I love, so it was hard for me to pick between these two. Maya Njie called these fragrances children of the same mother (or something to that effect). On me, Nordic Cedar is bright and cozy, with the slight sharpness of patchouli bumping up the cardamom-cedar at the center of this scent. I only get cardamom as a distinct note, with all others playing a supporting role in this smooth blend. At times it almost gives the impression of a gourmand, so evocative it is of Swedish baked goods. It does not transition and so is perhaps not considered complex, but it makes me happy from start to finish. Sillage is mild, which I like.

At first it reminded me of unpacking a new piece of furniture from Ikea. Very clean cedar aroma, with a slightly spicy top. Nothing too remarkable but interesting for it's minimalist perspective and fresh, natural edge. Then the sharpness fades and it comes into a cardamom dusted wood with a warm, almost doughy center. It reminds me slightly of caradmom buns without being gourmand. There's also a sourness in there I assume is also the cedar, which makes it feel a little greener. It's nice but it feels a bit too familiar and gentle, for my tastes. The cardamom is a bit too centered so you have to love it.
