The beautiful perfume offers a pairing of creamy coconut, smooth and refreshing, with a subtle and juicy fig that tantalises your senses. Though I sampled Akro's Rise alongside it, the scents bloomed differently; Akro faded fast to a simple, formulaic high-street type sweet scent, while Tropica stayed fresh, comforting me like a soft blanket for hours. Silage is amazing, although the fragrance subtly clings to the skin and does not linger in the surroundings. Achieving a balanced scent that captures both coconut and pineapple without becoming overwhelming is a rare skill; Maya has evidently mastered it, creating a fragrance that hints at the creamy softness of white flowers (despite their absence) and the bright warmth of ambergris. Tip: Try layering it with a dose of Diptyque's Philosykos to create quite a surprising result.

Mmm...delicious. What a great unisex, tropical, fruity scent. I'm a vegetarian though so please test yourselves. This fragrance makes me smile and transports me to an expensive tropical island. It has sophistication. I love the amber gris and sandalwood base which tempers all the delicious fruit. The iris is cool and calming. It is sweet but a natural, nectar sweetness. You will probably attract hummingbirds and other pollinators wearing this. There is quite a bit of fig leaf coming through with time which I really like. The woody coconut also becomes more apparent with time. A curious international mix. This room is around 15 degrees so heaven knows how powerful it is in the heat. If you are after an upmarket, a little sweet, sophisticated, tropical fruity scent then worth testing.

I blind ordered a travel size of this, as Maya is one of those perfumers whose work I trust will be solid, and I was right! Tropica smells exACTly like I'd hoped it would - very summery, tropical, pineapple-forward, big time Pina Colada vibes, but still smelling classy! The notes are really balanced; coconut and fig can both be iffy for me but here they're all in perfect harmony with the other notes. This would be the ideal perfume for a beach vacation. I love it, but not sure I'd upgrade to a larger bottle.... have to test the performance a bit more. For now, I'm VERY happy with this one!

Ole ole - ole ole Ole ole - ole ole Feeling hot hot hot! This is the fragrance you will reach for when you're in the mood for dancing or while on vacation somewhere sunkissed and beachy. It's so playful and tropical. It just makes me smile so much! It smells like a very fruity pina colada and I'm living for it. Pure happiness in a bottle. You will not want to stop smelling yourself. Fantastic performance too. I get moderate to long lasting longevity with moderate to strong silage. Full bottle worthy, especially for coconut and pineapple lovers, and for those who love to party.

This is the summer scent I have been spending all summer looking for! Some fragrances smell like summer. This one feels like a passport. The citrus, pineapple, Mediterranean fig, iris, coconut, and salty ambergris create an atmosphere more than a fragrance. I can almost smell the sea breeze, sun warmed air, and endless coastline. It’s transportive in the truest sense, capturing the feeling of being somewhere impossibly beautiful. If you’re landlocked but your soul is at the beach, this is your escape. Ethereal, uplifting, and effortlessly beautiful, it’s summer in a bottle.

If you love Sandalwood then Tropica is yummy. Tropica opens with fresh citrus notes, then the pineapple & coconut notes softly appear as it warms on the skin. Tropica is particularly beautiful in warm weather, it has good Longevity and Sillage. People have stopped to ask me what fragrance I’m wearing. Tropica leans more feminine than masculine, however fragrance is fragrance, and the sandalwood note lends an extra dimension. It’s one of my favourite fragrances; suitable for day or night, casual or dressed up.

This opens with sweet pineapple slices and a hint of citrus with soft white florals in the background. As the scent develops you quickly get a sweetly fruity fig with ultra creamy coconut and soft iris. It’s a scent reminiscent of piña colada but the iris and fig make it more interesting. The dry down is rounded out with some smooth sandalwood with remnants of a creamy iris and coconutty fig.

The vomit note is probably from the Ambergris which is quite literally either authentic ( or nowadays synthetic) Whale bile

Picture this -- you're on a fam vacation and the destination is a beach. Your whole fam spends their days leisurely lounging but you simply cannot sit still. Every morning while they bathe in the sun, you take yourself on unnecessary fast and hard runs and meet them afterwards, poolside, sweating. Each time, you are greeted with a pina colada that they have ordered for you in anticipation of your arrival. This smells like a pina colada with cumin (I mean that as a neutral statement; I don't dislike it.) Maybe it's the ambergris, but it kinda smells like sweaty skin on a beach vacation -- pleasant, happy, buoyant, with a faint hint of something stinky in the very background. As I am smelling it more into the drydown, the other scenario it's evoking for me is like the smell of someone blowdrying their hair who uses the best tropical-smelling products. It's totally got the hairdryer smell (not burnt, but that very distinct smell) x coconut mousse. The fig note adds a lovely green touch.

Finally tried this, and it’s a solid like. This has a slightly waxy texture from the coconut. The pineapple is slightly sour and photorealistic but sweetened up nicely by the fig. This combination of fruits is very pleasant and ends up smelling like an apricot on me. A bit weak in projection, but I can detect this as a close scent bubble for 3 hours before it disappears. It's more of a personal than a loud scent. Luckily, my skin chemistry didn’t draw out the foul-smelling butyric acid in the sour fruit notes like it did for some reviewers below. Edit: Okay you know what is the strangest thing? The drydown of "Milky Dragon" by Isabelle Larignon smells uncannily identical to this. You get the same apricot note from the lactones there, with a waxy and green aspect that resembles the fig and coconut here. Interesting how completely different listed notes achieve the same scent.

It's always amazed me that people can smell such different things in the same perfume, and now I've just had the strange experience of smelling Tropica with two different noses: my first trial of this wasn't promising. I got the rotten banana smell that others have noticed, then a slightly less sickening dry down if I could stick it out long enough. Then I caught Covid, was anosmic for 3 weeks and have just started regaining my sense of smell. Now at first spray, Tropica is a pleasant, slightly fizzy woody smell with a fig pulp smell I absolutely could not smell before. Which impression is right? I would say both, but I recently mistook the smell of fish fingers for coconut, so maybe my nose isn't to be trusted... EDIT: My sense of smell has nearly recovered and, oh dear, we're back to rotten bananas again!

Tropical fruits like pineapple, a bit of coconut and lemony bergamot, soapy drydown, unisex, leans a bit feminine. I feel that the fruits are toned down in order to make this a safe unisex perfume. The perfume has very little sweetness. However, as a woman who loves tropical things, I was expecting a juicy burst of fruits, and this one doesn't have that. It feels too safe. Doesn't go in any specific direction. Not very tropical in my opinion. Regardless it's a nice perfume. Some might like it. This reminds me of Francesca Bianchi's Sex and the Sea. Sex and the Sea is a bit more animalic and doesn't have the lemony, soapy drydown. 7 out of 10. For reference, I'm female.

The line up of all the notes suggests this is something I might like. And if you lined up all the feminine leaning tropical scents, Tropica would be right of center, meaning it’s more synthetic than a natural representation. We have fig and coconut partying with pineapple and a shaker of salt. All of that synthetic yum yum on the predictable dry down of a sandalwood base. Tropica. It’s a hard one to hate, but it’s also not that special or realistic. Wearing Tropica, I was transported into a TJ Max. Then that feeling comes over me that I have spent too much time sniffing in the candle section, and I’m feeling a little queasy.

A really nice tropical scent with a fresh, bright opening. I get pineapple, coconut, fresh fig, and loads of citrus. It opens very feminine, and at first I honestly couldn't imagine a guy wearing it. But as it dries down, the sandalwood and iris start to take over, and that's when it shifts into something I could totally see on a man. I really like how the scent evolves on the skin. Sadly, I'm just not into coconut-forward fragrances or perfumes with poor longevity, so this one's not for me.

I expected this to be more fruity. I can sense where the coconut is but it’s more like detecting the outline than actually smelling it. Similar to canned coconut milk, nothing particularly fresh or juicy about it. First spray is not bad, dried tropical fruits: papaya and pineapple along with coconut but then almost immediately I go nose blind to it.

Predominantly pineapple to begin with, and a good quality pineapple it is, in company with coconut. Not terribly sweet. What a good vacation scent should be.

Completely generic. Smells like fruit juice you could buy at £1 for a litre. If this cost a pound for a bottle I would absolutely recommend it.

i have the opposite problem as some of these reviews. admirer of maya njie & indie perfume and i would highly encourage anyone to go to liberty, arielle shoshana, MUSE etc and try her scents. each are totally unique which is so rare in such a highly saturated field. i dont think this is generic, in fact this is very different from anything i've smelled before. however, i don't like this. i'm struggling to find words but this has this weird, blunt vomit & sweaty sunscreen-ish smell that i guess can be explained by the ambergris or papaya.

This is one of the worst perfume I have ever tried on both my skin and on paper. The coconut, pineapple and fig clash so horribly they transform this fragrance into post- tropical cocktail vomit, I really cannot describe this any other way. It is very offensive, I do not get any of the sandalwood or iris, just a fruity rotten smell that I need to immediately scrub off. I prefer Vanilj as a day/summery fragrance.

Tropica is a pretty unique tropical scent, that's not too tropical. I get a lot of somewhat bitter grapefruit in this. The fig plays into some fresh fruity creaminess. There is a bit of pineapple, but I think some will be disappointed if they are expecting a pineapple forward fragrance. I get more grapefruit, but pineapple is still noticeable and it is a realistic pineapple note. I feel like fig leaves are playing into the bitterness of the grapefruit as well. It has a hue of greenery about it. There is a bit of coconut. It's similar to the coconut note in Arquiste Sydney Rock Pool but dialed down. It's more like coconut oil than a suntan lotion-type smell to me. There is a slight dusting of a waxy and powdery iris in here. The iris isn't strong or poorly done, but I feel like it just doesn't fit here. It makes my mind wonder what it's doing there. I think this might be why some people believe it is synthetic. The waxy iris might get some the impression of a candle. I disagree with other reviewers saying this smells so synthetic. that bitter sourness of the grapefruit is very realistic and so is the juicy pineapple. The fig is done well, but the fig is only a synthetic note, but it at least smells like it's trying to be a fig. I think this is a solid release and it's quite unique and in its own lane. Given that every pineapple fragrance is compared to Aventus(even though most of them are not similar at all), I think it is a breath of fresh air. I can look past the misfit powdery iris in it and I might get a bottle of it. I am undecided. I still think Nordic Cedar is a better scent from here, but I have overall been impressed with Maya's work and I am looking forward to future releases from her.

In my opinion, this beautiful ambery floral fragrance is one of the bests out there. I've tried many niche brands so far, but most of them were either too strong or too chemical, hence just didn't quite hit the right tone but this one definitely stands out. It's not too overwhelming and not too light either - it has a perfect balance of everything! If you're looking for a great, everyday perfume with a profound niche character, this is definitely your blind take. I am in love with this fragrance. It is the first time I have ever smelled something similar to this and wow it has definitely taken me to dreamy place when I am sniffing on it. Not only does it smell luxurious, but the fragrance actually lasts a long time too, and I am so glad I picked up this bottle. It has a really rich, creamy smell. It smells voluminously sweet and expandingly attractive but not in a cloying way. I can't describe it as anything but 'beautiful'.

Wow, these reviews are all over the place! To me, this starts out as a pulpy, sweet tropical fruit cocktail perfume. The first notes of this perfume are a photorealistic juicy pineapple and coconut, followed by a warm fig, sandalwood, and ambergris dry down (that do not smell like vomit to my nose). The sandalwood really helps this fruit juice of a perfume settle down into a warm, long lasting skin scent. I think this is a great little concoction and a fun addition to an otherwise fall/winter-centric perfume house. I actually have found myself reaching for it again, now that the weather is getting cooler, to bring me back to the sunny days of July and August and just generally jazz up otherwise mundane fall days. The initial fruity hit only lasts about 20 mins on me, but the dry down lasts on my skin about 6 hours and sits close to the skin.

What? Tropical? This is not in any way a tropical scent. I can barely detect pineapple and not at all coconut. This perfume is cold not warm. It smells cold. It smells a bit green but that ́s the most "tropic" I get from it. It smells earthy and mossy and stingy sharp... very similar to santal33 to my nose only 5 times softer because santal33 is a headache in a bottle to my sensitive nose :D. A way softer and more feminine santal33 with a barely detectible hinty hint of pineapple. If you are looking for a tropical beachy scent, don ́t bother. Compared to Vanilj this is stronger, has double the projection than Vanilj which is not much.. still stays close to skin, maybe max 40cm from your skin you could sense Tropica. After 3h comes very close to skin and less stingy. I would say this leans a bit more masculine.

I really like this one from Maya Njie. I do understand the comment about vomit, but I believe that comes from a papaya note that tends toward the vomitous. It's how ripe tropical fruit smells, and I appreciate the realism keeping this from becoming suntan lotion or a sweet pina colada. No, this is earthy and warm and funky, with pineapple glistening in the sun. Eat it now before it goes bad! Enjoy the moment, enjoy the pleasure of the sea air, the smells good and bad, the public nature of it all. It is such a good COVID escape fragrance! Very happy to my nose.

I don't want to read any slander about this fragrance! Tropica mixes some of my favorite notes together to create something tropical and sweet yet light and balanced. Distinctive pineapple with fresh citrus and creamy coconut/fig, then the warmth of iris and ambergris. Not a stereotypical "beach" frag but very evocative of an island vacation.

This smells almost exactly like Roger & Gallet Fleur d’Osmanthus (particularly the body oil version). It’s slightly fruitier, thanks to the pineapple, but otherwise it’s coconut and (unlisted) osmanthus over a milky fig. It’s nice (no vomit for me, thank goodness!), but just not my style - and the R&G version is much cheaper.

I love this take on a tropical beachy fragrance. It has a warmth to the fruitiness and a hint of green papaya among the milky notes. I find that it blooms in warmer weather. In the cold winter, it falls flat and the milky notes turn a bit slate almost. But in the summer it's sheer perfection.

This is very similar to Vacation by Arquiste, Missy by Rosie Jane, and Bosque Mistico by Nopalera. It's tropical and summery and it'll remind you of sunscreen a bit. For me, the coconut is a bit too green. Sillage is intimate.

I only got a brief test but found a weird rotten banana note. I wouldnt blind buy.. Other MN scents are great though, Syren is ace.

This is a straightforward tropical smell with strong pineapple notes against a boozy sparkling gin.
