MCM Obelisk

This fragrance reminds me of our Santorini and Crete trip last June 2016. The Hotel we stayed at smelled like this. Actually, when we were back from that trip, I told my husband I wanna get a perfume that smells like our Greece trip. A few months later, there was a woman who walked by me and I smelled this on her. I automatically asked her what perfume she's wearin. She said Obelisk. So I searched it on the net and found out it is from MCM. :-) So happy I finally have this and everytime I wanna remember the Santorini air, I spray this on.

LOVE! this perfume! I have been looking everywhere but hard to find in the States, you can find it in Germany. Very oriental type, woody, balmy and warm and just the right combination of flowers. My old bottle has been empty a few years now, but this one is worth searching for if you have a passion for oriental types of perfumes.

This one is autumn/fall in a bottle. I smell fallen leaves in this...I'm so glad that I still have this and that I didn't sell it because I almost did. This is a treasure in my collection along with Guess Original. This one could be for a fall day and Guess for a fall night

I have a sample of this n to me, it smells very much like Guess Original, twist bottle, dark brown liquid. Only difference to me is that this is a little more earthy, Guess is a little more buttery orris. I love them both!!

Foody sweet amber I get that mouthwatering tingly punch in the face amber with bits of chili peppers, peaches, galbanum, and rosewood. It has winter's stamp of warmth with that woody, yet ambery with hints of chilies and sweetness. As it cools down, the roses, ylang, jasmines, musk, and cedar begins to raise and balance the blend. This is an extremely sharp strong offensive blend that it's color does present it's strength. Captivating indeed.

29. april 2013 There are 2 types of bottles for "Obelisk": the one that looks like in the picture above and the other one in shape of real obelisk. I am not sure if they are similar or not, i guess the more simplier version is the later reformulation and the obelisk bottle is the original version, since a pure parfum is presented in "obelisk" shape as well. By the way this fragrance lost it ́s "Obelisk" name and was simply "MCM" inbetween, so i guess the version pictured above in the avatar is the latest version of them all. And this one i actually have (it has a bar code and a list of allergens printed on the box, so i am most certain that the version i am writing about is the latest reformulation). Well, what can i say about the fragrance? I see that people have compared it to "Obsession" by CK and "KL pour femme" by Lagerfeld, but to my nose it is none of them all. It is actually so unique smell, that i can ́t even put a finger on something similar in my collection. Yes, it is oriental; yes, it is spicy and yes, it is chemical. At least to my nose. Starts off very very sharp and literally the kind of smell of bug spray. That sharp nasty smell is very dominanting. I would describe it as a freshly lacquered wood panel smell. Somehow i get a feeling of a nutmeg in it. It is just an impression and i guess the combination of the notes of thyme and galdbanum. There is sooooo much going on in here. I tell you honestly, that i strongly disliked it for the first 10 -15 minutes, then it became more softer but still not very pleasant to my nose and now 1 hour later it finally became more pleasant. Yes, it is very balmy and spicy, still a very strong thyme note, now more woody and i finally smell peachy undertone. Oh, i get it!!! It ́s benzoin, that gives that synthetic feeling to the perfume in general. Not a warm weather perfume, i guess quite good for a humid weather and of course a great find for northern autumn and winter. It is indeed unique and now i really want to try the vintage version of it, i guess it would be less synthetic and absolutly fabulous. Lasting power is several hrs (modern EDP) and huge sillage in the beginning (SOS!!) but more softer towards the end. SOMETHING DIFFERENT. NOT YOUR TYPICAL ORIENTAL, THIS ONE IS AN ORIENATL WITH TWIST! The version i have reviewed (modern one) reminds me strongly of Krizia "Krazy krizia".

Obelisk is a potent man magnet, it seems to have a very intoxicating effect on them. When I'm wearing it, I am often approached by men telling me how good I smell and they always want to know what perfume this is. I have often been told that it smelled like cinnamon and that it had a Christmas-y vibe to it. When wearing Obelisk you definitely don't go unnoticed. It is quite a heavy and very sexy scent that's strongly recommeded for nighttime use. Sillage is very strong, even after you have taken a shower you will still smell it on yourself. Obelisk can easily keep up with high-end fragrances. In my opinion it plays in the same league as Tom Ford's Black Orchid. In Germany you get it at drugstores for as less as 7 to 9 Euros which is an unbeatable price for this kind of quality scent. If your aim is to seduce a man or several men ;) you will be right on target with Obelisk because it makes you a total temptress.

Obelisk seems to be what would happen if you mixed together Must de Cartier and YSL Opium. I have never smelled CK Obsession in my life but people do say it smells a lot like Must de Cartier so swap those if you need to when you're imagining the smell. All of them share so much in the notes that it's impossible to deny the resemblance. I can smell the incense of Opium in this although it's not in the notes. There is definitely smoke here. It's no wonder this is from 1985. It's got the same DNA as all those orientals from around that time. The bottle and box are such throwbacks, they look dated and I love it. This rich amber color is such a selling point to me. It immediately makes me want to check it out. I'll be wearing it a lot this autumn/winter.

Ah, this is great ! Well, you really need to be into 80' perfumes, I guess, to appreciate this... To me it is so incensy, ambery and benzoin. Lovely! And it stays very well on clothes. In Germany it is such a classic. This bottle was everywhere when I was a teenager. Right next to Opium, Paloma Picasso and Magie Noire. Because this is where it belongs! Today I found 50ml for 7 EUR in a drugstore. What a shame... and thank you.

Funny, this is what I expected Marc Jacobs Decadence to smell like after hearing about it. Turned out Decadence is a sweetish thing and not highly interesting. This is dark, mature and sexual. I would say it's unisex and not so unmodern actually.
