Un Coeur en Mai

The shyness bright yellow tea roses budding among the green leaves are delicate and petite. Consistent Nicolai style, I will not ignore. Un Coeur en Mai, as turin said, a lovely and without unambitious green rose. Un Coeur en Mai is a refreshing blend of Bulgarian rose, May rose, and Damascus. Since it is MDCI, a "classical" perfume brand. Underneath them, Un Coeur en Mai, with another retroist, Patricia de Nicolaï, formulating the recipe couldn't be more appropriate. The slightly sour rose is sweet because of the white flowers. The retro white rosin and mimosa add a lot of color to Un Coeur en Mai. The powder is the fine-grained pollen on the heart of the flower. White, yellow and pink petals gently wrap around the sides. Who doesn't love the hydration and beauty of Un Coeur en Mai? This dewy rose reminds me of the famous Chamade by Jean-Paul guerlain, Nicolai's uncle. Nicolai once said in an interview that she likes to add a hint of what they already know about fragrances to customers, and she likes it. "Of course, my fragrances are original, and I don't want to do reproductions. I thought it would be interesting to incorporate a little hint of what customers already knew into the original fragrance." If Un Coeur en Mai is also a hint, I think it's most likely Chamade in 1969. The core of Chamade is also rose, and the metallic luster is flowing. Un Coeur en Mai is a lipid musk base, like Chamade. Balsam, white rosin, rose, jasmine...few seem to notice this. First, Nicolai appreciates Chamade. She says Jean-Paul's Chamade is an underrated masterpiece that deserves a place on par with other classics. Therefore, Nicolai has reason to pay her tribute to this fragrance. "I have to talk about Chamade," she said. "This wonderful fragrance hasn't been as successful as Shalimar, but it deserves more support! Chamade was released in 1969, and my mom has been wearing Chamade as long as Shalimar." I'm not sure if Un Coeur en Mai has methyl dihydrojasmonate and black currant buds. But I took out Chamade, which is convenient to compare genes all the time.

UN COEUR EN MAI is a symphony of spring filled with the sunshine, luscious greenery and singing birds. This stunning green floral composition is flawless in its execution and balance of the notes. But it is so much more than just a well-done perfume, it is a piece of art, masterfully capturing the essence of the spring with its vibrant shades of green, pink, blue, lilac and yellow. UN COUER EN MAI is a complex but gentle perfume. The opening is green and fresh but very smooth at the same time. It is got to be one of the most beautiful green openings I have ever experienced. It does smell like a lush abundance of greenery in May. The galbanum, bergamot and petit grain are masterfully weaved together with the stunning aroma of hyacinth and lily of the valley. The composition IS like a spring day. I catch gorgeous whiffs of the fluffy and sunny mimosa drifting in when the scent transitions into the heart notes. The mimosa note is gorgeous here. The lily of the valley scent continues into the heart notes but it is not sharp and overpowering but rather very pleasant, shy and innocent. The spring floral bouquet fully develops in the heart notes accented by light and pale, very innocent rose. The dry down is a gentle floral musk and lovely wood notes. Last week I have tried another beautiful creation by Patricia Nicolai, MIMOSAIQUE. I can see the same masterful touch in rendering gentle spring greens. But in UN COEUR EN MAI, I definitely get the full blast of spring, while MIMOSAIQUE was just a gentle breeze mixed with the sunshine. Is there such a thing as the perfect spring perfume? UN COEUR EN MAI comes very close. I agree with Kterhark review below. This perfume is worth its price or at least getting a sample.

Perhaps it's a slightly barbaric comparison, but this scent smells quite similar to Yves Rocher's Comme Une Evidence. Certainly there are many differences, but the essence of both scents are the same. Un Coeur en Mai smells much more delicate clean; the scent itself feels porcelain, or maybe like a translucent sheet of rice paper. I love the bitter and melancholy smell, particularly the way galbanum is featured, which is quite unlike the powerful and overwhelming galbanum you may find in other compositions like Goutal's Heure Exquise, or even Chanel No. 19. Those scents smell very professional and like corporate lady-power, while Un Coeur en Mai is like a cold and ghostly breeze blowing through an open window sill. Overall: dry, grassy, cold, transparent, bitter, green with white florals. To me, I smell galbanum, lily of the valley (not listed), and rose more than anything else.

MDCI: Un Coeur en Mai Gosh I've been lucky buying fragrances blind. This special perfume is no exception. It is lovely, lovely, lovely. At first I thought a little old fashioned. Possibly because the Lilly of the Valley scent comes through quite dominantly on my skin. However, that being said, I must add that the sophisticated artistry of this fragrance is definitely of the 21st Century. It's HEAVENLY and ABSOUTELY FEMININE. While wearing Un Coeur en Mai I felt elegant and definitely stating that I only wear classy, expensive perfumes. The price, however, is true value for money. It lasted on my skin approximately 12 hours. My daughter who usually does not agree on the fragrances I like, said that she also liked this fabulous scent. Ummm, now I wonder who could possibly not like Un Coeur en Mai?

This is a beautiful and sophisticated clean green floral fragrance and I believe I’m falling hard. The pure clean scent reminds me of China Rain from the 80’s but with a much more modern and classy twist. I just received this sample so I believe I have the reformulated version. From the moment I tried this I could tell that this was well done and far apart from the mainstream synthetics that are mostly underwhelming bordering on “let’s get in on the newest scent marketing craze.....never mind quality.” This pricey nectar is well worth the investment and is going on my “want” list for sure!

I've never ever found a floral green like this. It is light, green, full of spring and still a little bit exotic and spicy on my skin. I can't smell every single note, but they are in a perfect harmony. I definitely want a full bottle of this scent.

Sometimes the dark-and-edgy niche perfume tropes get tiresome and you just want to go back to something beautiful. Something fresh and pretty, but not boring. Something that touches your heart. Patricia de Nicolai has you covered. Un Coeur en Mai is delicate but not dainty, a soft bower of blossoms with a refreshing green-citrusy crispness. A tender, fresh spring floral, in shimmering pastel shades. I don’t love typical “green rose” scents, and thankfully Un Coeur en Mai is decidedly an ensemble piece. The cool, pale-pink rose is balanced with an unusually rich, nectarous lily-of-the-valley and other soft spring florals in shades of white and pale yellow. Within half an hour or so, though, it “thins out” substantially and becomes sharper; just rose petals and astringent green citrus, with a distinctly artificial aftertaste. This is disappointing – but what a glorious opening it was while it lasted! The OG “May-queen” floral is, of course, Diorissimo, the romantic dream of a million 50’s brides. Diorissimo is on a whole other level of honey-dripping richness and musky rasp, very different from the “soapy” reputation of lily-of-the-valley, but still full of springtime tenderness. Un Coeur en Mai is clearly no Diorissimo, but it’s a greener, rosier, cleaner, more modern gesture in that direction, and pretty successful overall. (Can I honestly recommend shelling out $610 for a full bottle? Probably not. But then I’m a discount-samples-and-eBay gal with no shelf space for a “real” perfume collection, so ymmv.)

Pretty, pretty, pretty! I am completely smitten with this one: it opens with a hit of galbanum and geranium, then continues with the lily of the valley and the rose. It is perfectly balanced: green, bright, not sweet and juicy (probably due to the melon) at the same time. I have heard it called "similar" to Le Temps d'Une Fete. They do share the same DNA, but this is cheerful and pretty, while I find Le Temps d'Une Fete a bit introspective and melancholy (beautiful nonetheless). It is excellent for daytime wear in spring and summer. Longevity is good but sillage on the soft side. I would buy it in a heartbeat, but when I saw its price tag, my heart sank: I will give it another year to decide if I really need an FB. Which I do!

14 Jan 2014 Un Coeur en Mai, A heart in May, is a well-blended, artistically composed modern green floral. The hyacinth, freesia, galbanum and green leafy notes give the wearer a feeling of walking in an Italian countryside at spring time, lighthearted, uplifting and innocent. It reminds me Lucy Honeychurch in A Room With a View by E.M Forster. Un Coeur en Mai was created by Patricia de Nicolai. Jan 2017 According to luckyscent, this scent has been reformulated. I recently acquired the new version. It is still the same scent, only better. The musk in the new version is much softer, less screechy.

It is a green floral scent that reminds me of spring. There are no clear top, middle and base notes here and thus the scent smell literally the same from the beginning to the end. The notes are well-blended that I couldn't really distinguish any one of them. It is a very elegant skin scent that will never offend anyone. Love it so much.

Green light classic but, fresh cut geranium - noooooooo for me. But very subtle to start, and slowly, without nasal rape, develops... After 7 hours just divine, when geranium is gone bye bye, and rose with melon are still out.... Ohh, also very distinct cardamon seed, which is great in stew, not on me 7/10

I received this in a pack with 19 other niche perfume samples and this was one that had one note (maybe mimosa and/or galbanum) that I disliked on a paper strip. I did not let that sink my heart and next day tried it on my skin and, yeah, that same note which i disliked was very prominent the first hour but then it mellowed down to a much cleaner and greener scent which I liked better. But at that point the similarity to Cartier Baiser Vole (which I own) was very prominent so I feel I probably don`t need another very similar perfume.

Well, this is certainly one of the best Floral Greens I've sampled, and also my favorite from this line. It does not open with a sharp slap in the face (ala Chamade), it is more grassy than sweet; it wears close to the skin and remains fresh throughout. I know this house is expensive, but this is one bottle that I would say is worth it. This one really pleases my overly picky nose - I love it.

Eh, I don’t like this. It’s too heavy on the florals and extremely old fashioned. I struggle with yellow florals because they’re so unpredictable. Here, they smell like air freshener. It mellows out once it’s completely dry, but still not for me.

(I can appreciate the idea behind the niche brand MDCI, actually I admire much, but for the pricing, it's beyond my principles of how much I would spend. It's always 75mL., no small size, hard to find its sample, and for the sculpture on the bottle will cost much more! Once I asked a fraghead friend, a niche one, is the price of a simple presentation MDCI perfume expensive? The answer is OK, for one with the sculpture my friend thinks it's about the basic price of a niche. My friend takes the expense on niche perfumes to no limit and said without money one is shut out from the niche world, totally.) Taking two family names, Marchal and Dessins, and CI for Créations Indépendantes, MDCI is today's hommage to old days' glory. You can smell old perfumes' exquisite in a modern style from many talented perfumers' contributions. Un Coeur en Mai is the work of Patricia de Nicolai, who is from the Guerlain family and the president of the Osmothèque, her other work on MDCI is Le Rivage des Syrtes, more tangy. I compare with Shalimar Souffle de Parfum side by side, UCEM isn't stronger than SDP and is more flowery in lemon-scented mimosa, two are both fresh. (There is Mimosaique on her label.) On my skin it doesn't last long, on my pillow I read La Nuit de mai by Musset in the ever refreshing romantic breeze. PS I can only dedicated my 101th review to adorable MDCI, but the money, and I'll go directly to the vintage market to satisfy my nostalgia on the beauty of old perfumes... I believe Mr. Marchal won't give a damn, that's the way MDCI goes. XX

This smells just like a little girl’s princess-powdery daydream... soft, hazy, pretty, lovely. It’s the scent you would imagine when you think of the gardens in princess movies or the ones drawn in those old fairytale books your mom read you as a young girl. Picture a garden. It's an early morning in may, way before the warmth of the afternoon catches up to you. The sun rays peaking through your fingers. It’s the smell of the fountain's water splashing spritzes in the air and on your skin. It’s that misty haziness floating around you, in those rose bushes too. You’re walking barefoot, your toes in between the lush grass. Two white butterflies flutter past your feet, wet with morning dew. And then, after you’ve given it time... a heaviness pulls you back down. Thick and dense, like cardboard and dust. That dreamy lightness becomes dulled, suffocating and almost tiresome. Something's not quite right... your toys are packed in boxes now. It starts to smell like spit. It’s your grandma's breath, masked with her perfume oil. You’re not that little girl anymore. Age gets us all, even you. Listen to Past the Bushes, Cypress Thriving. That lull, the magic in those chords, it sounds just like this scent.

Un Coeur en Meh is prim and proper green floral with an old-fashioned feel that's nicely put together and intensely realistic. It has a sort of idyllic English country garden thing going on; it’s the kind of perfume that would fit in well at some high-society social luncheon where everyone keeps on saying shit like “Oh Lady Genevieve-von-Tittington, you are just terrible!” over and over. Overall, it’s a pretty, spring-like, crisp thing, but maybe a tad too characterless in the end. Decently spun, and definitely fits in well with the line’s aesthetic (simulations of utterly ancient perfume), and I imagine that this is what the lady in Jean-Honore Fragonard’s The Swing (1766) is wearing while flashing her bloomers at that creeper in the bushes.

I am now officially in weather denial. No, it cannot snow again! To ensure that this be the case, I have donned Parfums MDCI Un Coeur en Mai. May is less than three months away, so why not live it today? Un Coeur en Mai offers a burst of spring in a bottle, complete with flowers and greens and fruits and black currant. This is a very uplifting scent. Anyone who likes floral green perfumes will probably enjoy wearing this creation, and anyone who does not will not. One tiny criticism I have of this composition is that the melon note is too marked for my tastes. I don't usually like melon in perfume, though, so it should not deter others from giving this creation by Patricia de Nicolai a sniff or, better yet, a full wear!

I can't understand this one here! Huge melon, cantaloupe, black current, berries, with a burst of lime, green notes, and some geranium! quite dry to be specific and very rosy sharp despite the fruits in it! it's like a battle of who wins and who conquers! Pepper also shows up but later. But after all this is more of a rosy fragrance than fruitti. It feels as the smell of the flower in Super Mario video game, the flower he takes it and starts to threw fire balls.

Stunning. Complex. Its green, a little spicy, a little herbal. Something I didnt expect about the dry down was for it to come across surprisingly spa-like. A little bit of a tea note maybe. Crazy thought, but it kind of reminds me of 'Still' from Jennifer Lopez. lol. Edit: 34 mins later I'm smelling old fashioned bar soap. Wish that opening stuck around longer!

starts of fresh, green, citrus, dry grassy then powdery like iris & violets about 5 minutes in I get baby powder like notes, yes to the geranium after a couple of hours there are some noticeable white florals, the fruits are there but they are subtle & reveal themselves later in the dry down 2-3 sprays, medium projection

I love this very beautiful floral fragrance. It is so clean and bright in a very good way. Sweet, but not too much, absolutely not nauseating. Very femminine. It reminds me of some other perfume but I can't recall what, something by Dior?

A fabulous underrated gem, smells like lilac trapped in a bottle. I will always have a bottle of this for selfish reasons

I would love this so much more if she omitted the black pepper. It ruined this otherwise beautiful spring fragrance.
