Honey and Deer Musk

Honey Deer Musk is one sexy perfume, and I don’t use that description lightly. It’s sweet, alluring and captivating all in equal parts, with an element of classical French perfumery behind it which tickles that particular spot in my brain. Seeing both real deer musk and civet used here you might expect something very challenging and animalic, but it’s not. Instead the animalics are very tame and subtle. The notes listed here on fragrantica are only a fraction of what’s actually in here. This scent is actually constructed similarly to a classical Chypre with a mossy, amber base. The beeswax gives the scent that honeyed feel, it’s intensely sweet and erotic alongside the musks. Overall, I think this is a fantastic fragrance. If you’re looking for a scent which truly embodies everything about natural deer musk then this is not it, but if you’re looking for a complete perfume with endless versatility and won’t offend everyone around you whilst using real musks, you’re in luck.

I haven't bought a perfume in a long time. I don't really *need* anything in my collection. But I ended up almost by accident with a tiny vial of Honey & Deer Musk and I wore that thing until there wasn't a drop left. My bottle just arrived. Unlike so many very small perfumers it arrived in a lovely wooden box, (sealed with gold foil) packed tight with strands of wood curls/raffia. The bottle is incredibly simple, but elegant. And well, there's that powdery, warm, soft hug of a fragrance. This is one you have to experience. It is sunlight on a shimmering pelt. But it is also a jar of honey warm and sweet. And it is neither because of course it is a lovely medley of the two. I wish there'd been a sample of one of his other creations included, but then again, given how good Matthew is my pocketbook probably rathers there weren't.

I love this! This is soooo clean! You wonder how?-It has strong animal notes civet and castoreum -- animal notes have funk stinch and tang. HDM turn down funk stinch; turn up tang. Its like the green soapy tang in realistic florals (indolic). HDM not indolic. Honey and Deer Musk is very soapy. This powdery clean. Dirty honey! The animal notes used to make honey realistic raw unprocessed; animalic. This mature sweet. This transition into sweet floral. Honey dominant perfume, honey transition too. This like surypie slight buttery salted-caramelized amber with floral greeness. Transition again to sweet leather; the sharp nasty animal stinch is curved into 'genuine leather smell'. I am writing the same general review for my favorite Meleg perfumes - Civet Cat Chypre, Birch Tar and Russian Leather, Honey and Deer Musk, Madeline Peach, Oakmoss Forest Florals, and Mushin. I am very particular about perfume, and it is not often that I find something I really love. I expected to really like 1 out of the 10 samples of the sample set I received from Etsy, but there were 6! They are very special - unique, smooth, well blended, interesting, wearable, beautiful, and addictive! Nothing weird or harsh standing out, and nothing like I’ve smelled before out of the over 1000 perfumes I’ve encountered just in the last few years.

That 80s honey with vintage musk! Sounds cliché, but smells like sex. In a classy, elegant fashion. It is NOT as strong as the infamous Kouros "urinal" note. (Which I love!) Reminds me of the musk from Opium. A bit linear: You get sexy musk and 80s honey all night. It is a simpler, more natural version of Balenciaga Pour Homme. Makes it really hard to choose which full bottle to buy...

Holy shit, this smells so much better than I anticipated. Honey and musk sounded right up my ally but because this is an artisanal perfume house, I was skeptical that it would come across a little too DIY-y, but it’s not. It smells wonderful and very well blended. I’m really impressed. Well done, Meleg!

If you enjoy vintage fragrances and love honey, this is for you. The honey isn’t suffocating but light, sweet and almost fruity. The dry down is beautiful - sweet, powdery, slightly animalic.

So good, reminiscent of Zoologist Bee with the animalic honey note, but muskier, more vintage. Definitely a great scent for the fall and winter. Smells like money.

Warm, sweet, and animalic. It's comforting and cozy, though it does also have a little bit of animalic pong to it. The rose, honey, civet, and musk come together in a combination that's honey sweet, tangy, and kind of salty, all at once. Like honeyed lemon, lathered bar soap, and a bit of sharp, pheromonal animal scent. Meanwhile, the castoreum is warm and supple, like the softest, chewiest vanillic leather. After an hour or so, the tangy sharpness of the animal accord ebbs, leaving behind that lovely, leathery vanilla, with an extremely soft balsamic vibe; mellow and sweet with a delicate hint of saltiness. It's like a nest of whisper-soft kittens in a patch of sunlight; their grey, white, and pastel orange fur like a low-contrast impressionist painting.

I was a bit worried if I would like real deer musk, civet and castoreum or if it would be too weird or too funky. My worries were unfounded. This is an excellent fragrance. It is inoffensive, old school leaning, fresh and clean and well blended. VERY powdery. Cool weather only for me, but very wearable for just about any occasion. Long lasting and has good projection without being too much. 100% unisex IMO. Some of Matt’s fragrances may seem “out there” but this should appeal to most. It is sweet, powdery, musky and a bit woody. It is really well done and smells great! Impressive.

Vintage feeling clean slight powdery floral musk with a sweet civet sheen. Like a mildly feminine leaning version of vintage Givenchy Gentleman; Givenchy Gentleperson. First Meleg I’ve sampled, I’m definitely interested in trying more.

It is, in my opinion, waaay too strong. I had the sample and one spray on my left clavicle, and it filled up the room. I had a headache and I don't think my coworkers appreciated it. It also smells way too sweet. I wouldn't advise men to wear this as it is a feminine scent. Ladies, you may like this but please do only one spray.

What a beautiful deep, authentic musk and honey. Easily unisex - although I must admit I imagine an elegant lady in a fur coat when I smell this. This perfume cannot be discussed without a comparison to Musc Ravageur, as they share many of the same notes. Honey and Deer Musk is drier, less gourmand, and more floral, but equally cozy. It lacks the bite of the cloves and the lingering sweetness. In fact, my boyfriend prefers Honey and Deer Musk and cannot seem to get enough! Like other Meleg perfumes, this one is a real treat and quite special. Full bottle worthy! Notes according to my nose (in order of prominence): deer musk, non-descript dried flowers, cinnamon, honey, oak moss Notes according to my bottle: top - bergamot, clary sage; middle - heliotrope, rose, cinnamon; base - deer musk, civet, sandalwood

this is EXTREME. the first note i made to myself was "apply sparingly." a little goes a long way. there's something really dreamy about it, sexy, animalic. pheromonal, even. the drydown is downy, powdery, "feminine." sort of... seductive young girl energy? but a body scent, not something that was applied. the soft white underbelly of a baby deer. it's unlike anything i've ever smelled before, but for me this is one to wear really rarely.

I wouldn’t say this is like bee. This to me is like L’heure Bleue but sweet. Old school sweet musky powder but not baby powder. The honey doesn’t stand out to me just lends to the sweetness. Moderate sillage and longevity. Not a beast but it shouldn’t be anyways. Very feminine.

Pissy honey and fur. It does evoke the concept of dirty dancing in pre-revolution France. In a way this reminds me of Miel de Bois or Bal a Versailles, less violet-y than the first and not as amber-y as the latter.
