Oakmoss Forest Florals

This reminds me of the picture Fragrantica has listed for aldehydes. This is a beautiful blue sky in late spring or early summer with a gentle breeze. It is a man looking at a woman and being in awe of her beauty, her feminine attributes and characteristics. Not looking at her a in sexual or lustful manner but appreciating her beauty, luster, radiance as a woman. Such a well blended/balanced work with aldehydes at the start that ease into a beautiful, soft and clean floral bed. There is a comforting warmth in the base that develops while maintaining floral grace and a hint of musk/dirtiness. It is laying down with a woman on a large soft bed with fresh clean linens in the afternoon or it could be a cotton blanket on top of soft, cool grass in the park watching the clouds drift by. The hint of dirtiness and mild density in the base have the potential of turning a blissful, carefree nap into something passionately illicit. The base notes of Indian sandalwood and Ethiopian civet musk ensure a dense, warm semi-sweet floral comfort/nuance that keeps the florals from being too much of a sweet, wet, fresh cut bouquet.

This fragrance opens and closes with beautiful Aldehydes. Underneath you have a lot of earthiness and a bit of funk. This fragrance reminds me of a dirtier Guerlain Chamade. I actually prefer this a bit more because it is dirtier and it lasts a very long time, which Chamade doesn't. The dry-down after 12 hours is powdery aldehydes and oakmoss. Beautiful fragrance and one of my favorites of Matthew's. It smells to me that the soapy/powdery aldehydes take place of the citrus and peach of Madeline Peach however the Meleg DNA (Melegade?)remains consistent through many of his old French style fragrances.

Along with many of his other early perfumes this was a came from a copy from a formula that he worked . He brings this up on multiple videos. He brings it Chanel no. 5 in one Kouros in anouther-but it is only a sorry shadow. He can do better but that was Golden Gai. There he actually followed his profile “I am a scent storyteller” (something like that) literally I haven’t smelled a story here. Just a reworking of a formula... I wanted a story... to be told a work of excitement, drama passion in a fragrance but there was none...This was top notes too many aldehydes scrapping and clambering and middle notes clunked. His musks overwhelm when they need a more delicate approach to be his aimed for “classical” Madeline Peche was his Mitsouko. There are multiple bios that he speaks on these copy subjects like he didn’t like one of the aspects of the original classic formula so he tweeted with it. Meleg shines when he sticks to being well -mostly him instead of trying to spend his efforts copying classics. I want originality. I was given this bottle from a friend unfortunately it also caused a bit of a skin rash. This perfume and his others I have sampled could be better with the confidence to try to compose as himself not as copies.

I am writing the same general review for my favorite Meleg perfumes - Civet Cat Chypre, Birch Tar and Russian Leather, Honey and Deer Musk, Madeline Peach, Oakmoss Forest Florals, and Mushin. I am very particular about perfume, and it is not often that I find something I really love. I expected to really like 1 out of the 10 samples of the sample set I received from Etsy, but there were 6! They are very special - unique, smooth, well blended, interesting, wearable, beautiful, and addictive! Nothing weird or harsh standing out, and nothing like I’ve smelled before out of the over 1000 perfumes I’ve encountered just in the last few years.
