African Rose

I hadn't had a chance to get my nose on African Leather, but I really dislike LDDM so as much as everyone loved it, it wasn't high on my list of frags to try, so I cant really say how much of the African Leather DNA this has but I stumbled across African Rose and immediately thought it was for me based on the notes. After finding out it was limited I pulled the trigger on the blind buy during a flash sale since I couldn't find it in many places. The initial opening is a bright but spicy rose. This doesn't last too long it immediately settles into something that smelled familiar... To me is smells a little like YSL Tuxedo mixed with TF Noir de Noir and the slightest splash of LLDM. at 10 minutes in I was feeling a little let down because even after discount this bottle still cost me over $500 with tax. The dry down however was a different story, this stuff changed in a subtle but beautiful way. For me it developed into a dry cumin with the rose becoming a little more powdery in the background with the vetiver and musk keeping it from being TOO powdery. I found this to be quite seductive, mysterious and just enough of a sweetness to keep it crowd pleasing. I believe it leans just masculine because of the cumin but a woman could pull this off. To me it is one of those frags where you want to feel like you're not super impressed but yet you keep going back for more. I find the sillage is better than the projection which I personally prefer for a fragrance like this and longevity for me is 8+ Hours. I believe this is technically a flanker so I am not exactly sure how they feel its worth $240 more than its counterpart, but forgetting price as a limited edition flanker I think its a winner. I would rather have this than some of the other frags I think it smells similar to because this gives that desert spice that is just so beautiful with the rose that other similar frags don't offer. However that said, I am disappointed that given the similarities its SO much more expensive. I think if this was $350 MAX, it would be one of the most hyped frags in the comm.

I'm currently testing this on one hand (one spray) and a vintage Caron Parfum Sacre on another and this completely blows the Caron out of the water. The projection on this African Rose is absolutely phenomenal. It's not cloying or gross in any way. I have another fragrance with cumin oil in it and that one has this funk not present here in AR at all. To be fair this does smell like a Rose Oud blend found in several other fragrances. However, there is a lot more to this. There is a lot of pure rose oil, which is super regulated and expensive. It's floral and tart, but the cardamom and saffron, both I love, comes in to play slightly. Scent references: Acqua Di Parma Zafferano for saffron Xerjoff Starlight/YSL La Nuit De L'homme for cardamom Boadicea the Victorious Ardent for Rose Oud, but with a more natural smelling Rose, less synthetics BtV Blue Sapphire Supercharged, for the tart aromatic and quality Tiny hints of musk, leather and patchouli, but very subtle as supporting base notes for molecular bonding. Rose is not something that will last for 8-10+ hours, so it's necessary. That's probably why Oud is mixed with Rose so often, because Oud makes it more unisex to appeal to a wider audience and it's a thick, eternal molecule. To receive the rating as high as it is, while being a $600+ retail fragrance is really not that difficult. People like to be the subject of envy - they think it makes them significant. In this case it is fairly well deserved. I found this bottle second hand full presentation for 220. If you see a deal like that, go for it absolutely. Well worth the money IMO This fragrance is a 9.5 overall. I think this is as close as you can get to a perfect fragrance. Absolutely Outstanding by Memo Paris.

Plz don bash me if I'm wrong. My nose is quite a weak type compare to most normal sensitive nose. If u love Noir de Noir, then this is for u too. Testing out 1st try, with my mask on since I'm outside n I'll make this simple, first impression Noir de Noir comes to mind without the Patchouli or whichever notes making d slight chocolaty n earthy. If u got lots to spend I would suggest to go for this, if u got mid budget go for Noir de Noir by TF, if u got d lowest budget go for CDNIW. The rose in here is by all means high end quality. If those of u think African Leather can be a resemblance, think of adding this high quality rose absolute onto it. That's wad I guess why d price is expensive. I heard, there are many types of rose from different region of countries n different scent profile n also a different price value. A friend of mine says this has a good very quality of rose absolute from India. Well I dont have the kinda experience. Easily can be unisex. Not overly of both masculine or feminine n easily can be pull off by both. The scent profile kinda feels sexy at d same time. Max 3 sprays is all needed. Very strong too. So go easy on d sprayer. 1 on d back neck 2 on d side chest. U good to go for 6 hours or more for d scent bubble. I absolutely love it. Blind purchased a 100ml tester bottle of Memo African Rose. I. Am. In. Love. African Rose is a GORGEOUS, ethereal, ephemeral, unisex, rose-centric perfume with perfect base notes. Truly a masterpiece beyond the individual sum of its notes. To my nose, MANY rose-centered perfumes can feel synthetic, cold, loud and screechy. Not African Rose. The opening is 1000% rose with quickly emergent spicy notes. The saffron, cardamom, cumin and other spices add immediate depth, warmth and interest to the fragrance. The middle is a beautiful blend of florals and spices but rose is the star. The dry down is a glorious balance of all the best base notes that keep the rose grounded and perfectly balanced...aoud, woods, some patchouli, a wee-bit of leather. Veitiver lends a warm, hay-like feeling. The entire perfume is dry, dusty and arid (but never powdery). The fragrance is extremely soothing and comforting. Wow...just WOW! Silage is amazing and duration is forever. Love, love, love, love!

This is a gorgeous scent! I normally go for light and airy but boy did the African Rose seduce. After this sample I’m purchasing a decant because a full bottle is so expensive - no way can I afford the bottle at $500.- $600. It’s truly luxurious and I suppose the expense is due to the high quality of ingredients and oils that make it last such a long time. It doesn’t take much to give excellent performance. I’ve never been so enthralled with a scent & such a surprise- I feel like the goody-goody girl that just met her first bad-boy & I’m loving the wrong side of the tracks - intoxicating! This is definitely unisex. I was going to buy a decant for my husband but I love it so much I will buy for myself too! You simply must try a sample & also watch the YouTube channel Cubaknows for his review.

Wow. It’s so carnal, seductive, sweaty-juicy fragrance. It starts off with cardamom and bergamot with tiny bit of saffron, very clearly. The flowers: mostly geranium, follow quickly, with a hint of cumin ...roses stay hidden behind the geranium for the moment. The first couple of hours are slightly medicinal. But then... the magic happens 🤩🌹🥀 It transforms into an incredibly beautiful, strong roses on spicy leather perfume! Incredibly good. Vetiver and musk and a bit of wood are also there, but they’re not doing a solo performance tonight, they’re the orchestra, rose is the star of the night. I am definitely in love! The only thing is the price. I’ll wait for the travel version 😜 Ps I absolutely love it on me and hated in on my husband. He also didn’t like it at all so definitely test first.

Although I like African Rose quite a bit, there's no way I can justify the astronomical price tag; this is literally African Leather with an added hint of rose that's barely detectable unless you bury your nose to your arm. Moreover, personally, I feel like the scent profile of AL works better without the rose, so for me, this is a slight step down from the incredibly good OG. When it comes to performance, AR does last longer and is perhaps a tad louder compared to AL, but I was expecting so much more, given the projection and sillage ratings here and on Parfumo. Even though I was somewhat underwhelmed by AR due to high expectations, I'd give it a 3.5 out of 5 overall - 4 if it wasn't for the stupidly high price point and probably 4.5 if AL didn't already exist.

A Beautiful Rose. The fragrance opens with a beautiful, powdery rose. I’m surprised the powder isn’t mentioned in the notes here. I don’t pick up much cumin or saffron, so if you’re not a fan of those, you’re in the clear. The sillage isn’t as strong as the ratings suggest, either. As African Rose dries down, it becomes closer to the skin, with a more woody and leathery vibe. My only gripe with this fragrance is that it leans unisex but has a more feminine feel. I asked a few ladies if they thought it was a masculine rose, and both of them said if they smelled this on a guy, they’d assume he was gay, not that there’s anything wrong with that, of course. PS: This is quite different from the African Leather DNA.

Love rose? Like REALLY love rose? Spice? Leather? Then BAM! this IS it!!!! The rose here overtakes the original african leather composition and is honestly all encompassing. And while I love a good rose (in Atomic rose, Delina, Roses on Ice, Sultani) you'll notice that all those roses are used to freshen up or soften up things. This is one is the punchy star of the show. After about 30 minutes the rose simmers down and blends very well with the leather and spice. Longevity is about 8 hours, Sillage fantastic for about 2-3 hours before settling into quite the arms length bubble. Get this at a good price and you have a real gem!

I have never written reviews on this site, but I had to for this gem of a fragrance. This is the best rose fragrance I have ever smelled hands down. Rose is one of my top 3 notes and this blows it out of the park. I blind bought this after reading all the reviews and I already own and love African leather so I knew what I was getting into, but I never expected it to be so good. Absolutely love it. In my top 3 for sure if not the top one. I wouldn't recommend blind buying though because fragrances are subjective, but do try to get your nose on it. You won't be disappointed. Worth every penny!

Wow. I don’t really know what else to say. For almost an entire year, Amouage’s Rose Incense (Opus XII) had been my favorite perfume of all time. It left me speechless every single time I smelled it. I think this may have just dethroned that. I need to test them side by side, but the rose note in here is so good, that I started laughing when I smelled it. Holy shit, this perfume is a thing of beauty and elegance. I am so glad that I purchased a bottle Edit: definitely did not dethrone rose incense, but this is a delicious spicy rose. Worth every penny

What a gorgeous rose fragrance this is. A superb quality rose surfing on a leathery, cumin (or is that coriander?) wave. This has enormous projection and announces the presence of the wearer. Memos are very well made but I like just very few of them but this is an absolute favourite. If you have deep pockets this is a great fragrance to consider adding to your collection. This is almost £ 500 for 75 ml. These days everything is fair in war, love as well as the way all fragrance makers price very desirable fragrances... Try it

Wow, just wow. I see why it’s not discounted. Definitely full bottle worthy to me Update after a few months of wearing: So so sexy, every time i catch a whiff my eyes roll in the back of my head. I only use one spray, and it projects intensely to start, but it is such a smart concentration, the kind of concentration that lasts and lasts but does not project obnixiously! This will draw people in, this will turn heads when they catch a whiff and they will not know where it’s coming from. Absolutely worth sampling

If you have any experience with the leather accords that are in MEMO Paris fragrances, then you will not be surprised by how breathtaking this composition is. I tested this in 2021 having had no idea what African Leather smelled like, or having any experience with MEMO scents. It enamoured me... The rose note is absolutely stunning, and you can smell the richness and quality in the fragrance oils. Buying from MEMO is worth every penny retail, but find a discount if possible because they're really pricey.

I had tried the 2020 batch and reviewed it here in 2021. I tried a new batch again today but its different. The ultra gorgeous rose oil used in the earliest batches that looked like it was straight from the Mughal rose garden is missing. Rose is still there but its been made spicier. Leathery vibe is lesser than what it used to be. Earliest batch was unique unto itself but the newer one while its still good smells very familiar like TT Por porra mixed with Opus 12 rose incense.

This fragrance is beautifully done. Yes, it is definitely unisex, leaning masculine. But I LOVE IT! Got a sample. Wore it for 2 days. I think it’s a perfect fall/winter scent. Spicy, rose, leather and mineral. Just bought a full bottle. It’s VERY over priced. I got it from a reputable discounted store. I can’t wait to wear this when the leaves start hitting the ground. Absolutely stunning, well blended and dreamy.

I liked African Leather a lot. And then I tried African Rose. Now African Leather seems a lesser fragrance... but there’s no way that I’m going to go with the outrageous price tag of African Rose. So they launched this (better but prohibitively expensive in comparison) and as a result I’m not buying either this one or African Leather 😂 ... I’ll most likely get one of Tauer’s masterpieces

Finally fragrantica posts a listing for this one. MadeinBklyn nailed the description. I absolutely love African Leather especially because it’s like nothing else out there. They’ve basically added a high quality rose note to the original and it is blended to perfection. Great fragrance which doesn’t get much hype cause I don’t think many people have actually tried it.

This is a beauty. I already owned African Leather when I discovered this gem, which is basically AL with the addition of rose. It is a stunning marriage of flowers and leather. Had I known about AF, I would have purchased it instead of AL. Why is no one talking about this beauty?!

Wow wow wow wow wow!!! Absolutely stellar!!! The most amazing scent profile I’ve come across in a while. This is rose done to perfection for a man. Guys do not sleep on this one. It’s so good I just purchased a second bottle before writing this review. It is just that stunning.

I am not a fan of rose, having said that i love African Rose its a smoother and cooler more calm version of African Leather you feel wealthy when you wear it and you probably are since it costs an arm and a leg, bought a full bottle and had compliments galore! 8.5/10.

Update: this is my #2 rose perfume of all time. Rose is my favorite note, so that’s saying a lot. This thing is a beauty and I am so happy to have a bottle. It’s overpriced AF, but so worth it if you can get it discounted

I smelled this one time many years ago, and I remember loving it. I found this at a great price, so I have this on the way. It's an expensive purchase for something I've smelled once, but I'm excited

I can't for the life of me figure how Memo can justify the price uplift over African Leather .... but my word what an absolutely stunning fragrance. Thankfully I found it for 40% off retail

Gorgeous I smell The scent of black and red roses Plus the mysterious immortality very well design fragrance. The first note of leather is so different from other fragrance 10/10

This is the greatest Rose fragrance ever made.

Someone told me this was better than African Leather. They were wrong I'm not really reminded of African Leather when I smell this, but to be fair I'm wearing this on my hand at the moment and I only smelled African Leather on a tester strip (but I have a sample coming). To be completely honest all I smell here is rose, maybe a tiny bit of patchouli and bergamot, but I don't really get any of the other notes. It also smells like what I assume other people mean when they say a "green rose" scent, this smells a little more like the rose's stem than the flower. It's still an amazing and really natural smelling fragrance, but African Leather had that X factor with the spices that felt invigorating and infinitely more appealing to me. I also don't see this scent as feminine or even feminine leaning, this is a completely unisex fragrance in my opinion.

This is a beautiful perfume. It is African Leather in which the cardamom is turned down and a youthful ambery rose is added. However, on my very cool skin the performance is not great. I get moderate longevity with minimal to no projection. The combination is indeed beautiful, but to me it’s too expansive for what it is. I am a big fan of Memo Paris and I have and love a lot of their fragrances (which perform quiet well on me), but this one is very overpriced for what it is in my particular case. But on me many perfumes do not perform that well, so I would say it is worth sampling for yourself if you love rose because the scent is beautiful.

Tried it today in Spain. It is African Leather plus rose essential oil. I don’t know how Memo can justify charging over twice the price of African Leather for a just a flanker (that is all it is). Maybe it is a market experiment, but the variation is sooooooo not worth the extra money, and at least I, am not a guinea pig for these kind of games. Nice scent. Nothing groundbreaking. Do not pay what they ask for this scent unless you get at least a 60% discount. Outrageous and unacceptable.

African Rose really softens the oppressive aromatics of the original with the addition of rose. I could not wear the original scent, but I found this to be extremely wearable. Could be signature worthy, but far from perfect for me especially considering the price.

Spicy smooth rose. Similar to JHAG lady vengeance bottle I already own but JHAG is smoother, has musky/ clean/ very faint soapy aspect, and has no spice. Both are equally strong, but I prefer JHAG as it has less spice (I don't like spice).

This is predominantly a rose fragrance. Very different from the original African leather. I strongly prefer the original to this one.

If you're charging 590$/75ml that's fine, but you better blow my mind with extreme quality, premium materials, superb complexity, great performance, extreme purity... something! anything! I was interested first, but when I saw that price tag ....This might be the most overpriced perfume ever. I mean, 590$/75ml might not be super crazy, but it's way too expensive for what it offers. It's not attar, extract perfume, or even something special. It doesn't even smell super complicated. I made fun of Tom Ford before but this one left me speechless.

It's all kinds of hot outside. You are sweating but you are on a mission. Hidden in this dry, dense, rose forest is a beast you've been tasked to catch. Combing through the unusually large stems and flowers, you hear scampers and turn. The corners of your eyes keep catching shapes, but this heat, you could be hallucinating. Are the tips of the rose petals burnt? You investigate closer, each one has a bit of smoke coming from within, emitting a sweet incense that is intoxicating your already shaken senses. This also clues you in, you must be near your prey. You reach into your worn leather pouch to retrieve your traps, and again hear a rustling nearby, All the roses explode with flames, and at once the sun's heat pierces the tall thicket. The beast strikes at the exact moment, knocking you to the ground, scattering your Pokeballs, and it begins to... nuzzle you? The Flareon has bested you, now marking you as it's territory. You smell its dense animalic fur and spicy musk. Your face is buried in it's chest and it tramples over you, the wild animal has all the scent of this environment trapped in its coat. It leaps triumphantly away, taunting you, and leaving you defeated. You gathering your good, and get ready to admit failure. Now that you've read my other hobby of Pokemon fan fiction, youve hopefully parsed together how African Rose smells. It's spice and rose that explodes at you in the opening. Big and overwhelming. Rose isn't a favorite note of mine, so I am glad it is only the introductory act. The drydown begins about 45 minutes in, and it is the star. A sultry sweet leather with a warm patchouli and tonka. This is what Janet Jackson in the "If" music video smells like. And I'll tell you what, I became a man somewhere between Ariel bursting out of the water, Chun Lee's thighs, and that Janet Jackson video. Sensual, spicy, good.

This fragrance is beautiful. It feels like a vintage rose with a modern touch. I would love to have this in my collection. It's gorgeous on the skin and clothes. The only thing keeping me from owning this beauty is the price; it's expensive due to the rose they use in it. I own African Leather, but African Rose is one of my favorites from the house. This house has some amazing fragrances that are well done. I'll have to wait until Neiman Marcus or some other retailer has a sale before I purchase this one; in the meantime I'll see if I can get a decant.

Tested on a blotter, this is the smoothest scent I've had the pleasure of smelling in a long time, and the blotter is holding the scent of two tiny sprays of eau de parfum tenaciously after 24 hours. It smells simply glorious, and for fans of rose perfumes it is well worth testing if you get the chance. I tried it in the Duty-free perfume area in Dublin airport, where they have the Memo Paris range (as well as many other high-end brands but this was all that caught my eye and nose!).

Breathtakingly beautiful sprakly rose. It is so complex and full bodied that you feel like it is a single note fragrance. Experience of smelling a freshly bloomed pink rose straight from the branch on a breezy spring afternoon. Leather comes later, but this an oudy leather rather than some animalic harsh one. No overpowering smoke or incense here, just some woody, buttery rose. Not feminene leaning at all, a true pleasure to enjoy all year round.

Store Test Short Review: African Leather made soft, its spices become aromatic rather than rugged or savoury. The rose is actually not very explicit in the opening, unlike their oud flankers which I found more fun. But this is probably the most serious and wearable flanker.

The smell of the rose with all the other notes in there is just magic. It's hard to say that this isn't one of the best niche perfumes I've smelled in my life. Especially since they took special characters and managed to make them sexy, mysterious and simply joyful.

gas gas gas gas. amazing beautiful, although unrealistic, jammy rose mixed with saffron, my 2 favorite notes. this is some heat, def full bottle worthy but gotta sample. 9/10
