French Leather

Very lithe and ozonic I almost thought it's watered down especially after the initial spray. So I think it's easy to overspray this. Almost as elusive and ephemeral as BR540 but this does project by at least an arm's length (potentially more) if exposed to warm climes. It gets much louder and noticeable after the dry down but it's still polite. This is rose forward. The rose is a beautiful natural rose. Upon initial spray you get lightly scented rose with what smells like pencil shavings but the latter goes away. The rose is not synthetic although the scent has a rose-scented shampoo quality about it because it is so lithe and diffuse. It smells like what it smells like if you just got out of the shower after washing your hair with a rose scented shampoo and the rose smell is still lightly emanating from you. Looking over the notes I see Memo is using rose water rather than rose extract. That explains why the rose is like this. I don't think my nose is sensitive enough to detect the leather notes. Either that or it comes later because I'm not getting any. Feminine leaning but I think men could wear this too. It leans mature because of the higher quality and complex nature of the rose. Generally for women over 30. You could be 90 and this will still smell good on you because it is so reserved, controlled and well-judged. Roses done this way also makes one smell wealthy. This is quiet luxury. UPDATE: 4 hrs in this has turned soapy. But like a really expensive high end soap. I must say this has got some staying power. It's already quieted down to a skin scent but it's still projecting about 3 inches from where I sprayed. UPDATE 2: 10 hrs in and it's still there. 😲 Projection is about half an inch now. I think this may go eternal.

When I'm shopping for a new fragrance I usually hit the stores when they open, spray some of the ones I'm interested in on my skin, and then walk round for a while and have a coffee or two. I probably look a bit weird walking round sniffing different parts of my arms. I had already tried Memo's Irish Leather before and while it was OK - a sort of leather with weird stuff going on over the top - it didn't wow me, so when I hit the Memo booth I wasn't expecting much. French leather was an immediate hit for me. Much nicer to my nose than the other leather offerings from this house which are all very strong leather scents. I sprayed a single spray on the inside of my left wrist and wandered off. In another department store the fragrance staff were trying to sell me their stuff, but they all agreed that the French leather smelled "amazing" (their word) and struggled to find one of their own perfumes they liked better on my skin. 6 hours later and the single spray was still going strong. 24 hours later it was still noticeable on my wrist. Stellar longevity on my skin. Needless to say I acquired some French Leather! It's a really beautiful scent. There's a lovely floral/citrus top which complements the beautiful soft suede backbone and wood perfectly. Masterful blend in my opinion and much less "harsh" than the other Memo leather scents which are a bit too full-on leather for my nose. It's one of my favourite scents - really beautiful.

I bought a FB after seeing it on sale and being infatuated with a sample I've had for a while. Though overpriced, it is an excellent choice if you are looking for a rose forward scent that works for a masculine wearer - the rose is superb. If you want something with these notes that is fresh and pops, this should be a pass. It is dark, musty and dry and I suspect there are better offerings for a more feminine wearer. The notes here are listed as linear and I think that is fairly true of my experience; however, I do think the pepper and sage stand out way more on clothes than skin, and the lime gets a bit lost after a while. The leather is soft, definitely more a bright suede, especially compared to a lot of the other Cuirs Nomades, but it holds its own with the rose on me. I took on board the critique of this smelling like an old (the handbag not the woman) woman's handbag, which I think is fairly accurate, but after wearing for a bit with that in mind it just doesn't deter the allure that it brings. Really this is just a great rose and leather combo that will deliver sensuality and sophistication, especially to any suited or semi-semiformal occasion. I would make it a signature scent were it not so expensive.

A fantastic and beautiful rendition of a Rose! Perfect for daytime, this is neither a bomb nor a skin scent. It is absolute perfection in terms of projection, sillage and longevity. I am an absolute sucker for Rose fragrances. I have too many if you ask me and so to say that I am in love with this Rose means something! I am usually weary of leather in fragrance but I have to say, this is such a wonderful blend! I do smell the leather but it is very subtle, it is more of a supporting note to the rose than anything else and it is definitely an asset to this fragrance! I think it makes this Rose perfectly unisex and elegant. There is a sense of refinement and class in this scent. Certain facets of this fragrance remind me a little of Delina Exclusif but this is not at all a dupe for Delina. Delina Exclusif has a certain sweetness and a lot more woods in its blend. French Leather doesn’t. All in all, it’s a love for me and I hope to acquire a full bottle of it very soon!!

I was surprised to read this review today (3/6/24). 2 months after I can say this is one of my favorite scents. I still don't get any leather in it and I still call it 'pepper rose', but this is so beautiful. And funny enough no more headache and soup associations :) ---- lime at the start -100% pink pepper always -100% juniper and sage after lime -100% rose- 1000% suede? leather? hm... well I can imagine I feel it after I was told it's there, but honestly- I don't. I mean, we c-a-n imagine. "real" / most likely expected leather = 0% fantasy leather/ leather mood/ memories/ vibe = 35% If I had to choose a description, I'd say 'pepper rose'. No leather (as in classic leather scents). To me rose= headache => and this scent gives me headache. I would not wear it myself and I don't event think I'd find it attractive on others. Smells like somebody who's been making soup and spent whole day in the kitchen,

• Good. • Leather and unisex are a worrying mix. Leather is a heaviness note, and heavy unisex fragrances often just smell like an entire cosmetics desk. • Not the case here. Simplicity keeps it in "I just bathed and smell like roses" territory. The leather is a suede and quite subtle; sartorial rather than biker-style. Both are sprinkled in citrus. • Rose is not a candied girly rose nor dry masculine rose. I'll just call it "shower rose" and hope you know what I mean. It reminds me a lot of the "Jose Eber" rose toiletries stocked in Vegas hotel rooms; a scent I've loved for years. • This does NOT smell like Maschino Toy Boy. That smells like a rose/rubber fragrance to me. Sorry for the people searching for a Toy Boy alternative disassociated from Maschino's, uh, interesting marketing choices.

I was on a trip and went to visit a niche fragrance store. After an hour sniffing out the whole store, this was the resounding champion. I purchased a 5ml decant, used it up within a couple of days and have now ordered the full bottle. What a fragrance. It’s a green, bright rose. The lime and pepper notes are strong but there’s enough lime to offset an overload of pepper and vice versa. To me the detectable notes are rose, lime, and pepper. The suede is the canvas and it blends everything together beautifully. Leans feminine but works as unisex. For comparables I’d say it’s a greener Delina with some pepper - I don’t mean this in a bad way as I’m not a fan of Delina. This is just something else. Love love love 💕

This could be the first fragrance with ‘leather’ in the title that I actually like. Going off previous reviews it seems that Leather isn’t the prominent note here which is probably why I like it as I often dislike fragrances that feature Leather, will buy it later today, definitely unisex in my opinion, no issue wearing it and also wouldn’t mind smelling it on a woman in the right situation. I also feel like this is a fragrance I wouldn’t want to project too much so I’d go with a couple of light sprays, to me it just seems more effective if someone is in close vicinity and catches the aroma as opposed to announcing here I am to the whole room. The longer it sits on my skin, the more intrigued I am

A legend says that the thorns of roses were created to protect them from the hands of man who, envious and unable to bear such beauty and perfection, had tried to eradicate them all. French Leather is a beautiful rose. This adjective is not obvious for me, it contains many nuances because here there is the interpretation of this flower in one of the most elegant and wonderful ways there is: it appears protagonist, decisive, acidulous and sensual, accompanied by delicate leather , like suede, with spices and green notes, which give it a unique personality. Truly original for me, as it is stripped of the more feminine meanings of her. I love it. “The soul of the Rose” painted by Waterhouse.

Many reviews say the rose is stronger than the suede in this fragrance, but I have to disagree. On me, this is a strong suede with a hint of rose and lime. I agree with some other reviewers that this fragrance is similar to Delina/Delina Exclusif. I think it's closer to Exclusif, in a way that is softer and more wearable in terms of practicality. Exclusif is a beautiful fragrance, but so strong it's difficult to wear without potentially annoying someone who is scent adverse. French Leather on the other hand will not disturb anyone, and you'll smell elegant all day. This is a fragrance for those who enjoy understated luxury.

French Leather reminds me of Dries Van Noten ROCK THE MYRRH but with rose— They both share the same suede note and pink pepper. I picture a bouquet of dark roses wrapped in a fuzzy suede cloth. The aroma of that suede very much in the picture. The scent has a “chewy” texture, also dry. To me this is a feminine leaning fragrance that is high quality, luxurious and really elegant. As a rose non-lover, this a rose perfume I can get down with! Not too sweet, mature (yet not grandma), has depth and very modern. If you like Rock the Myrrh then you’ll love this! French Leather is perfect for cool spring days!

Wow this is really an amazing scent! It gives me that fresh’n’sweet type of vibe just like Eclat de Arpege. You can see cedar and musk in common, but there is definitely more common notes. I would add tea leaf and peony to this pyramid as well. It. could work for office and for a date both and easily be someone’s signature fragrance. It lasts hours on my skin, not sure if the projection is great. Even if not, I am still looking forward to a full version because I just love to smell it on myself when I move my hair or smell my wrist😍❤️if anyone selling please feel free to message!

I got a sample of French Leather with another perfume purchase a few years ago and it blew me away. Given the price tag I hesitated for a long time before buying the full bottle, but it’s now easily one of my favourites, the one I save for the days when I want to feel tough. I do not get daytime scent, clean or fresh rose at all, but on me it’s a dark, leathery rose that last and lasts. Kind of how I envisioned female vampires when I was younger. Dangerous, beautiful and nonchalant enough to be completely upfront about the fact that she can destroy you anytime she wants.

Was got a sample to tested it out, it smells like some car air freshener because of the very sweet rose and leather note. Was pretty disappointed for this very expenssive niche perfume at the first impression. BUT after I'm wearing it for an hour, the dry down smells awesome on my skin! I can't help it to keep sniffing it. Leather note will makes me headache normally, but not this soft suede! The performance is good, it last 8 hrs on me with just 1 spray. Already bought a full bottle of it.

My signature scent. Elegant, fresh, softly sueded Rose. Reminds of me rose tea in the opening; it has a certain green/herbal finish that I adore. All of the notes are so well balanced. It somehow manages to be a fresh rose with no sharp edges; I’ve never smelled anything quite like it. The suede accord is soft and buttery smooth. This is not a loud scent, which is why I love it so much. It’s very chic. My current #1 most loved perfume.

I didn't know what happened to me during the quarantine but I bought a full pres bottle online... Blind!!!! This is soooo not me because I usually get a sample or decant first. Good thing I loved how the scent evolves as it dries down. All the comments below are so true. And the metal plate on the bottle instead of a paper or plastic sticker label, that's what you pay for.

Citrus and rose opens up the perfume and then it smells like honey, sweet from the middle and dries down with leathery, musky scents. The transition of the notes are amazing and it is definitely worth a try if you like rose, woody perfumes. I love it! I found it as a versetile scent - could level up your casual outfit and could add more charm in formal clothings.

Rose and leather pair together beautifully, and the addition of lime (to make it juicy) and musk (to make it even more elegant) are terrific here. Memo Paris fragrances are pretty much out of my price range, but this is still pretty swell stuff. This would be a great fragrance for a date night if you can afford it. This works beautifully for any gender.

Smelt it at airport, among several I tried this one stood out. Immediately purchased it. It is very sexy rose scent. The rose is watery, some citrus to support it and maybe some little suede at the background but rose is the main player. It smells very luxurious. The downside is it doesnt last v long, lasted for 7/8 hours and projection is moderate.

I fell in love with “French leather” when my friend used it in combination with “Intense cafe” by Montale. It was such intense experience. Such a familiar notes, but in complicated interpretation. I got myself both, because I’m literally addicted to them. If you want to get “WoW!” effect, it is such a brilliant compliment getter.

Right now I’ve been analyzing this scent for the second hour. Finally, I found a close analogue of “wrappings” that I wore several years a quarter of a century ago!! The next morning I found the purest aroma of citrus in those places that were sprayed with perfume (given the evening shower!) MAGICAL. COZY. WRAPPING.

I just love it. It's a tough rose, a bit fresh at the beginning but warmer in the dry down. I think it's more a day scent, but it can be layered with a vanilla scent or cream at night. It's addictive, the leather is soft so I totally get the suede note. I can't wear thick leather fragrance, so this ain't one.

A fresh blow of French air of Montparnasse in Paris. Rose first role but so deeply composed. If You like Delina this one will be for You. Very well said story. A beautiful story.

Surprisingly, this fragrance smells like apricot or osmanthus on my skin. I do get suede as well but nothing like a rose to my nose.

It is very similar to Memo Irish Leather but drydown in French Leather is more gentle, feminine.

Pretty straight leather and rose. Very unisex. A “dress up” fragrance. Nothin casual about it.

My lovely scent. Fantastic quality, very romantic, sensual and easy to wear.

If security and trust had a scent it would be exactly this perfume. Love it!

French Leather Memo Paris () I personally think Memo Paris’s leather line. Can be easy arsenal in your niche collection. The whole concept behind this line softer leather. The actual “Leather” note is aroma chemical, inexpensive however hard to tame and suitable for certain structure of fragrance, you may recall this as leathery note in older Chypre fragrance. They normally end with that dark-deep brown leather note. Concept of substitutes note is long time been using in fragrance world. “Nagamotha as Oud”, “Geranium as Rose” Certain natural ingredient, can also be push to give impression of leathery too, Labdanum / Violet even Mimosa. The uniqueness in French Leather, particularly. Is mixture of Birch Tar, musk with an oil of some seed that gives impression of this texture of suede. You can feel some soft oiliness from this fragrance and musk. Rose in this build, quite similar to the rose in Lyric man. The limey note. However, instead of incense - they replace with smokiness instead, similar to others of Memo paris offer and soft green, aromatic edge, rounding everything all together. I think French Leather utilizes the most from this suede accord, mixing with properly constructed lime rose to make the best of it, Resulting in sexy, deep red rose, allure and sensual. However, as most Parisian, reserved. I don’t think this is amber-base, at least to my nose. I think the “suede” accord is properly grounded scent enough, I got moderate 5-6 longevity with moderate silage. I think my ross fellows could easily enjoy this. And that is a charm of this fragrance. It is not real suede but.. “suede impression”. I think I would probably keep it for now. I do enjoy. As 9/10 and can’t deny the fact that this is properly done with creativity for non leather lover. So far this accord belong to house of Memo only. I don’t smell this in other fragrance. However for me, A quest for rose x leather quest, might be resume again.

French Leather is a nice example of a rose-leather scent. It is woody, dry and aromatic like the others I've tried from the Cuirs Nomades collection, but the suede accord here is more prominent than the leather in African Leather, for example. FL is rosy from the opening, with some bright citric freshness up top, giving an initial dewiness to the rose. The rose is dark and velvet-y as it unfurls, sweet without being jammy, luxurious and deeply satisfying. The suede follows closely, smooth and realistic, marrying perfectly with the rose. It is smooth and high-quality, with no harshness despite it being a very dry scent. Pink pepper, a frequent companion of rose, adds soft spice. The woody undertone adds body as it develops, complementing the suede-rose accord to perfection. The woods become more dominant as it progresses, making this a woody-rose scent with suede nuances in its later stages. The dry, grassy vetiver comes to the fore here, slightly smoky, complementing the increasingly powdery rose to perfection. There is a green herbal nuance here, more muted than in Irish Leather, but adding a subtle pine-like edge to the woods. It fades to a musky-rose skin scent. Sillage and longevity are moderate - its performance is less good than the other Cuirs Nomades I've tried. It is a transeasonal scent, unisex in the manner of Middle Eastern-style rose scents. A good-quality, woody-rose-suede scent, FL is nothing groundbreaking, but is a nice example of its genre. Smooth and rounded throughout despite its dryness, it is nicely-composed and offers easy elegance. 4/5.

Oh dear Memo. You've let yourself down here a bit. I was spurred on by discovering the absolutely beautiful Italian Leather, to sample other perfumes from their leather series. This one drops the ball. I mean, it's alright, but for it's stupid, eye-watering price, I was expecting much more. The rose is dominant in this perfume, like a controlling, jealous male pig in a toxic relationship. It would be better if it was called "French Rose" or "French Fucking Flowerbomb of Powdery Disappointment". It is definitely more suited to the no tails, but a fancy, racy tail in a flamboyant outfit could also pull it off. But John down the pub, who drinks 4 pints of Director's beer a night in order to cope with his miserable existence, is definitely not going to like it. The lime is barely detectable. I was expecting a good old citrus wallop, with a rose undertone, but that's not what it does. The rose is so dominant, that it even manages to obliterate the sage, which is quite an impressive feat, as sage is a super tough herb. I am very glad I didn't buy a full size bottle. 5/10. It just can't have any more. Average, dull tosh.

I mean these are big bottles (probably 200ml) but I was a bit shocked by the price...£335!!! I previously tried Irish leather and although I found it did deliver a kind of leather note, it was a bit too niche for my liking. This shares similarities but again is quite different, the smell immediately reminded me of something but I can't place it just at this minute. This is a delicate floral scent which is the least 'leathery of the lot and listing suede on here is probably more accurate as it's a lighter more powdered effect. The juniper and citrus in the top notes are characteristic it would appear and the pink pepper, rose musk and vetiver are all present as it dries down. This has quality ingredients no doubt but the lasting power and silage are average and even disappointing at this price. I like the smell don't get me wrong and Memo perfumes certainly have a signature going on but this one isn't for me.

For me this is all rubbery, herbaceous leather, and woody-green stemminess. Personally I get very little floral scent from the rose note, here. What I get instead is the mulchy, woody zest of stem, leaves, and stamen, all put through a woodchipper. I find that the rubbery, tannic edge of the suede note actually fleshes out the woody green tang of the other elements nicely, and despite its slight tannic bitterness, the suede has a pleasant chewiness to it that's supple, almost tender. It's a raw-edged, quarrelsome kind of scent, yet it gives me the persistent feeling that there’s something refined, even pretty about it; some delicate hidden element. It balances the vibe of an overgrown gardening shed, with a sense of elegance; the rosebush that grows in brambles behind the shed, isolated, untended, and out of sight.

I was looking for a deep/dark rose scent and was recommended to try this. I wasn't expecting to like it considering it's called French Leather and like I said I was looking for something rosy. However I was pleasantly wrong. The first half hour or so, it's a lovely comfortable scent of suede with a light rosy tint. Over time the suede all but disappears leaving a sweet dark rose behind that stays for an incredibly long time, I clocked over half a day with one spray. I like it because it fulfilled what I wanted- a non powdery deep rose. However if you are intrigued by its name and looking for a suede/leather scent, I won't recommend this as the suede didn't linger for more than an hour on me. Good sillage on top of the very good longevity.

This is one of the brightest fragrances I've ever smelled. I got this for test about a few years back, and upon smelling it for the first time I was BLASTED.....and I do mean BLASTED by what I think is an insane lime punch to my nose. I was insanely turned off by this one immediately as I wanted a rosy leather scent, and that's where I realized I need to do my damn research. Given this one was really early on in my fragrance journey, I didn't appreciate those bright, florally scents and suede was something I was not aware of yet. So I feel like this one still deserves another go. Girlfriend absolutely loved the sample, and got many compliments behind it. So I'm thinking about ordering this one for her in the near future!

A nice classic woody rose with a gentle suede-y touch to it. 100% unisex, perhaps a bit sweet for some men. The rose accord is quite nice, dewy and green, slightly tart on the top, but at this price point I expect more than just moderate enjoyment. Were this in the 150 euro range it would have been a good find. Edit; I sampled it once again, I find it dries down better than it opens, with quite a dewy rose and smooth leather undertonea touch of vetiver cutting through, I think it is the juniper and tart notes in the top I was a bit indifferent to. Overall, I prefer it to FM Rose & Cuir which is even tarter and more leathery. I will explore it further and keep updating for anyone who may be interested.

If you are a man who wants to try rose fragrance but afraid that it would be too feminine, i think this one is a really good start for you to try. Memo achieved the right blend of rose and leather, making it totally unisex. On my skin leather is the main note and the rose is there to soften the whole tone. Just like a soft suede with rose petal spread throughout. Good longevity with moderate silage, it has certain lightness to it so wont knock the whole room off but its there creating a nice aura around the wearer and will occasionally get a whiff. Really good release from Memo Paris, cant wait to try other from the leather line.

This is my first time testing anything from this line. At first spray I get tons of lime over leather (not suede), rose, pepper and hint of juniper. The perfume isn't that complex and doesn't morph from one thing to another, but half an hour after applying I noticed the the roughness of the notes settle in and blend together nicely giving an overall smoothness to the scent. It lasted on me about 12 hours and the medium silage stayed pretty strong throughout. French Leather is a wonderful leathery fragrance that could be worn by men or women. It's really nice but not at $252.

Opens up with a fruity sweet rose combined with lime and sage. What I find interesting is that I can pick up a nice pink savory rose which seems pretty natural to me; and combined with the lime and sage, it has an intriguing opening. I don't know where is the leather, because I can't smell any, but there is a nice creamy element in the background. Next to the rose bouquet there are bitter and green herbs and woods which seems to amplify with time. For the dry down, I get a dance between aromatic woods and something creamy. 6.5/10

This is a pleasant scent, I find it super elegant and sophisticated. But every time I thought about wearing it, I chose something else, something with more character. This lacks confidence for me. Grace Kelly probably could wear it, not me. Good work scent, if you’re using good designer bags going to the office. Won’t offend anyone. It’s a quiet and delicate aroma. Imagine some rose water perfume, maybe made by Chanel or so, spilled in a luxury handbag. It smells exactly like that

Very precise, if I would be asked about one adjective to describe it :) It makes a very niche impression from the start. Suede, juniper, vetiver, resin make it unisex in the first phase. It smells original, luxurious, serious, slightly oriental, but not in your face. Subtle. What I love about it is its development. After a couple of hours it turns into a pure, soft, slightly flowery human female skin scent. Clean, dewy, happy skin. Rose-scented skin. A scent of innocence.

Light rose with hints of metallic undertones(think Eclat de Rose blended with Ganymede), possibly from a combination of pink pepper and vetiver, French leather is the perfect unisex perfume because it is probably one of the most elegant leather perfumes women can wear as well as one of the most flirtatious rose perfumes that gentleman can wear. My only complain is how for the price, Memo bottles are unremarkable and unimaginative.
