Oriental Leather

Memo leather fragrances are interesting because they show different aspects of this popular theme. Oriental leather is soft and tender like suede and reminds me a lot of 80's seducer, one of the most popular powerhouses of that time, One Man Show, which is still in production by Jacques Bogart. They have a lot in common: geranium, patchouli, vanilla and of course leather. Oriental leather is more 'modern' - sweet and spicy but fresh and not cloying at all. What I like the most is the honey-dew undertone which is just a reincarnation of One Man Show main theme. I felt a lot of geranium on my wrist, but after spraying Oriental Leather all over I just felt heaven. This scent is perfect for those who love gourmand leather fragrances, because leather itself is less prominent here comparing to other leather editions from Memo. I have a wonderful flashback in my 20's when every girl could go with me if I was wearing One Man Show. Times changed, and what was suitable for a man that time, now is unisex. I can add that comparing to Bogart's masterpiece Oriental Leather definitely doesn't have any signs of gender, it's just polished and beautiful. I'm glad I noticed it on the shelf!

Where to start? This is my first review on Fragrantica; I just started learning about fragrances recently. I purchased a half a dozen testers a couple of days ago, this one immediately caught my attention. Upon trying it for the first half of my day, I can safely say, "I love, love, love this fragrance." The blend is smooth and so intoxicating, very light on the leather but the spices are like "wow". The initial blast was not at all off-putting, it worked really well with my skin and on my wool sports jacket, it smelled amazing. The dry-down was where the magic continues, I get this incense-y feel similar to the Incense City by All Saints (another tester and also amazing). I'm not certain how much compliment one might be able to garner with this scent, but I believe I will be wearing this one for myself.

It's a leather box in a similar style to Amouge and Parfums de Marley, and a printed postcard of the art on the bottle on one side. The scent is beautiful, you get a full leather scent that is blended beautifully with the other notes. It's not too overpowering, but I can smell it projecting off me as I sit at the office. It tones down after about 5 hours and I get wiffs every now and then. After that it sits about 3-4 inches from my skin for the remainder of its 10-12 hour life. Only thing is a sample I got from Nose smells spicier in the first hour in the opening and the bottle I got. It smells exactly the same after the spice disappears. I'd definitely buy it again. It's a top 10 for me

I LOVE this fragrance!!!! Although it has leather in the name, I don't get much (if any leather) in this one. On me this opens with a prominent lavender note, and reminds me quite a bit of some of the old school aftershaves. However, this is very warm and spicy, and a bit powdery as well. I would say this is unisex, perhaps leaning masculine, particularly in the opening. As it dries down the lavender fades and it becomes more unisex, and the result is a warm, spicy, resinous fragrance. Overall, this has a more mature or vintage feel to me. The performance on me is fantastic, lasting all day with great projection.

I love how if you didn't read the notes you'd never really know this was a leather fragrance. The first thing I think is sweet heat! Its like a medium sweet spicy smell. This also has has great silage and longevity. It was a choice between African leather and this one and even though this one is a little more expensive because its newer, I like it a lot better. It just seems like a better value to me due to the performance. I also feel like this is just light enough to get away with on a summer night, so you can where it almost year round.

Hypnotising warm sand, a smell of grandeur - this feeling of being so small in comparison to the desert, to the sky -, warm days, fresh nights, so so tender

Ohh, how very subtle it is. And how it smells like the softest leather drenched in spices and aromas of the surrounding place. Perfectly genderless. I feel curry and saffron in the opening, but in the background. Exactly like oriental bazaar souq smells, its spices carried on the wind. The leather is human-like or of the softest gloves that were touching perfumes and spices. It creates a warm, clean, slightly spicy aura that is very restrained and elegant. This is a classy wear nothing showy, brash or attention-seeking. Sillage wraps me in a bubble, I can feel it even outside, amazing for such a soft scent. It does not change much during a day but it never feels boring.

It reminds me of my childhood since it smells exactly like a fragrance my father used to wear, whose name I never got. It's nostalgic, but I do regret buying the whole bottle since it is not a very wearable smell. It is pleasant to smell but not to smell-like. It's a smell I can really only see older men wearing at special occasions, not your every day, & specially not for young people. It is very sophisticated & very hard to pull-off.

Spice first. Leather next. Evened out by the lavender. The leather descends into a gentle spicy patchouli and the spice lasts several hours - close to the skin.. I didnt think I would like this as much as I did! Oriental spice always makes me think of older mature Tabu using lady. This one was very subtle and sophisticated. Well blended.

I do not like this at all. In fact, I hate it. Caution: Sample this at a fragrance counter first before you buy it. It is NOT a safe blind buy. I am so sorry it makes me feel this way because being a generally positive person, I always find something to like about everything. What was Memo Paris thinking when they put out this fragrance? What’s worse is that I love all of their other leather fragrances (I have them all), but this one.........🤮 The opening notes are an assault on the senses. It smells like something that has been left out in direct sunlight for too long, and has gone off as a result. So naturally I waited for the drydown, because one is often rewarded by patience. Unfortunately this one stays the same throughout. It has this vinegary feel to it - quite unfair on vinegar, which can smell nice and crisp. I cannot even get any whiff of leather. I am not sure what to do with this one because I cannot imagine anyone liking it. I wouldn’t even give it away to a friend, because that friendship will be over quickly. Thankfully, I bought it at a discount. For those who have given it positive reviews, I am glad. Because it means that this is not a total shambles. I’m afraid, it is just not for me. Rating: 1/10 UPDATE: I cannot believe that this scent is growing on me. I am upgrading its rating to 6.5/10

Oriental Leather has been on my wish list for a few years, and I recently ordered a sample to give it another try before making the final decision. Despite the captivating and promissing fragrance pyramid, my experience was dominated purely by vanilla. The opening notes hinted rich spices and some leather, but as the fragrance settled on my skin, a sweet and soft vanilla emerged and was here to stay. This came as quite a surprise to me; I even started to doubt the sample because it smelled completely different from the last time I tried it. Now I’m not buying it and will keep searching for original and authentic warm-spicy-not-too-sweet fragrances.

Not at all what I was expecting, With a name like Oriental Leather you'd expect spices, leather, amber, oud, maybe some kind of tea note. But no, you get none of that. Instead you get a semi-sweet bubble gum smell... Yeah, very weird but I've worn this enough times now that it really does just boil down to that one note. The only real positive is that it is decently strong, so at least if you like the DNA you don't have to spray it on super heavy. I'm just super puzzled by this fragrance. Not impressed at all, especially for the prices they're charging.

On skin, I mostly get leather, strong leather with a bit of earthy patchouli. On clothing, I get strong beautiful patchouli with about half strength leather. I don’t seem to get the geranium I bought this perfume for at all. And don’t notice any other notes either. Edit. This does have similar vibe with Idole Eau de Parfum, a vibe that I simply dislike.

first off i smell spices and leather primarily. there is some lavender in there too, i think. after a couple of minutes it gets more herbal...anise, cilantro and geranium are coming out. the leather seems to have died down completely. it ends up mostly geranium and lavender-quite herbal and dry. a bit overpowering, at least on me. it's really strong.

Too sour and bitter for my taste. Buyers beware, as everyone should be with every fragrance, this smells extremely different if the tester at the store has been left out for too long. Also it is absolutely not a safe blind buy.

Not bad, but too much a shadow of Lubin iconic Idole de Lubin. Not as smooth and elegance as Lubin, this young cousin is more spicy and less leathery.

This is not quite for me, but nonetheless I have to say I don't dislike it! It's a warm, spicy, approachable leather. It is beautifully blended: it's not at all easy to pick out individual notes once this has settled on your skin. The opening is an interesting blend of resinous and vegetal, with almost savoury elements from the pimento and the cilantro and a balsamic warmth that seems to come from the conjunction of cinnamon and lavender. It's not the fresh, aftershave-like lavender you would expect, but rather an almost balmy one. As the minutes pass, the geranium starts peeking out, as well as the benzoin. The fragrance becomes much more oriental in character, and that's the stage where the leather begins to unfold. It's a very mild-mannered leather but it's definitely there: it smells well-worn and warm, something like a much-loved pair of fragrant suede gloves. I must admit my nose isn't quite sharp enough to follow all the evolutions of the spice notes (and even if it were, I might not be quite able to describe that evolution as I would like), but these are really the core of the perfume. It's a bittersweet, shimmering haze of heat that seems to be in perpetual shift - a "now you see me, now you don't" kind of situation. You never quite manage to pinpoint what exactly it is you're smelling; all you know is that you really want to keep smelling it. In my opinion this is the perfect intersection between the "oriental spicy" and "leather" families, in the sense that it draws from both genres to create something that's not quite a leather fragrance, but not quite an oriental fragrance either. Depending on your personality and what you're looking for, you might find that either very interesting or very annoying. It's not avant-garde in the sense that it's very unlikely to shock or provoke anyone, but it's quite creative in its own right. The price is a little steep but hey, this might be exactly the perfume you're looking for. Worth sampling if you're a spice lover; just don't go into this expecting in-your-face leather.

Memo Paris’ latest release, Oriental Leather, is roughly the fifth or sixth entry in their leather series, which I’ve generally liked but not loved. Oriental Leather is spicy and fairly well-balanced, and frankly, doesn’t seem to contain all that much leather, at least not in a dominant proportion, to the other spicy notes that really stand out. To my nose, it’s mainly a blend of lavender, vanilla, benzoin, and some combination of the spicy notes of pimento leaf, coriander seed, leather, aniseed, geranium leaf, cinnamon bark, and to a lesser extent, patchouli. It’s a healthy note list with lots of variation in the spicy accords, so it’s difficult for me to pin down one or two spices that outshine the rest. The lavender sticks out most of all, note-wise, as its sharpness and freshness cut through a bit amidst the creamy base of vanilla/benzoin. It’s predictably spicier at the opening and within a few hours is quite mellow with more of the vanilla and benzoin coming out. Overall, its performance is strong and it’s a nice, spicy, robust fragrance, surely a little masculine-leaning as particularly with the lavender, it reminds me a little bit of a fougere-type but a lot more cold-weather-leaning than most barbershop scents. I quite like it and while the retail pricing of $295 for 75ml is a bit more than I’d want to pay, personally, for something like this, it’ll likely reach the grey markets at a big discount, which might be more fitting. Oriental Leather is roughly as daring as the other leather fragrance of the house: it pushes the envelope slightly while not being too unfamiliar. Oriental Leather might be among the most agreeable in the lot, in fact, as I see it as a pretty workable cold-weather option for most men, albeit stronger than what some men might like. 7 out of 10

Spices, spices and spices! ✨ - with an aromatic touch! First of all, I simply just adore @memo.paris Leather line - I find it very multi-dimensional and I think it explores and supports the leather note in unusual and interesting ways - African Leather with cardamom and saffron infused, French Leather with blended rose, and here my newest is Oriental Leather which is just beautifully interesting. Oriental Leather stays true to the line, as it is a bit leathery in the base, but it is not the most prominent ingredient and also does not overpower the creation to be dominantly leather-like, just gives it enough deepness and darkness to perfectly be embedded into the line. Oriental Leather opens with a burst of lavender - it gives it an aromatic feel to it, and also there is a definite herbal undertone to it which the infused tea accord creates - in the heart, tea, geranium, anise and cinnamon create a slightly herbal, yet sweet and spicy quality after an initial burst of aromatic splash supported by lavender and pepper. It is definitely something very unique - the leathery sensualness as it swirls with the aromatic facet, and the oriental spiciness makes this a truly extraordinary contender in the selection of Memo - a french perfume brand which produces quality after quality.
