Quartier Latin

There was a sale on Memo Paris website and this was a bargain so I decided to blind buy it based on its description on official website and reviews on Fragrantica. Very risky I know. But I do NOT regret it. The moment I sprayed it WOW it was heavenly. I got a warm milky sandalwood as mentioned by others with some tonka beans (I guess?) in it. The barista then added some clove / cardamom on top of your drink. That's what I got in the first instance. But very soon cedarwood entered the stage and created an equilibrium between warm sandalwood and clean cedar. The duet lasted for around 15 mins then sandalwood disappeared into darkness (still on stage) whereas cedar took the main role. Whilst @muzzbait is quite right about the combo of 'sandalwood + pencil shavings', it is a lot more sophisticated and complicated. I enjoy it a lot but would only wear it in cooler days. Perfect time to wear is probably autumn. I will see if it continues to develop and how it settles.

I read somewhere that this was supposed to remind one of an antiquarian bookshop - and it sort of does. It would work equally well on a man, I think. I love the sample I have just acquired - if you don't mind smelling like an antiquarian bookshop. I wonder where one can buy it, though?

This gorgeus perfume could be considered unisex version of Feminité du bois, with its significant presence of cedar and sandalwood. I really love it!

To me it's an absolute masterpiece. A bit different from a regular Memo scent. Very seductive, provocative, rich.

I am in 2 minds about this one. The first time I tried it (as a full wear rather than initial sampling) I really quite liked it. I wanted woody and it hit the spot. Very woody on me, I got a strong sandalwood note (the harsher drier Australian kind to my nose, but I am no expert by any means) but it was pleasant, fairly smooth and well supported by cedar. The sandalwood balanced and smoothed the cedar giving a strong woodiness without the peppery prickly feel that cedar sometimes has, while the cedar kept the woodiness of the sandalwood in sharp focus, preventing it from lapsing into creamy territory and keeping this woody throughout. I had wood, good, strong, fresh planed wood, from the outset to drydown. Sure it softened over time with a faint warmth of the amber and the tonka adding a slightly toasted feel to the whole affair. It lasted well, projected to an acceptable level - I got wafts but I wasn't going to overpower anyone as I walked past. And I liked it, rather a lot. Tonight I put it on again for my night time scent, as I have been on a wood binge these last couple of days. The thing is, the other day I wore Bois Des Iles, and Sycomore, yesterday my day scent was Wonderwood and my bed scent was Sacred Wood. I continued my theme today with Tam Dao edt, with a brief interlude this evening to sample Vanille Insencee on my arm before applying this in anticipation of bed time. The problem is, after the smooth, welcoming and creamy woods of the last few days this feels harsh and scratchy. I have to admit I am surprised. I guess this is why we don't make snap decisions and buy a huge bottle after one test (I didn't, don't worry, not this time :D!) I really rather liked this after my first wear but seen in closer contrast to other wood scents that I enjoy this one feels a little sharp, a little scratchy - it feels (I am bad at metaphors but I'll try) as though this is a piece of rough hewn timber, a plank covered with splinters, not refined or smoothed. Whereas the other woods feel somewhere between a smooth planed and sanded wood and a finished beautiful handcrafted cabinet. So I feel that this is a scent that I would only wear very rarely. I have got into my pyjamas with the traces of yesterdays sacred wood and this has softened QL considerably. If this were cheaper I would consider a decant for layering purposes to add a pleasant strong woody base to some other, lighter fragrances I have. However it isn't especially cheap! However for those with a bit more cash this might be a good layering scent. I guess I haven't reached my final verdict on this one yet and need to give it further tests under different conditions. Luckily a little goes a long way and one or two sprays from my sample gives good projection and longevity.

UHm...i feel no resenblance to the glorious FdB, which I adore. It is a rather warm creamy almost chocolatey fragrance on my skin. It starts off with spicy fragrant woods, settling into a nice warm resinous chocolate.. I like it a lot.. Too bad my boyfriend finds it repulsive..things we do for love..

Very synthetic opening. Creamy and rubbery, made me think of foam mats. Smooth and sweet, I got mostly tonka and little cedar. Interesting, but too sweet and synthetic for me. I don't get the "bookshop" scent other users have commented on... to me, it's more like a confectionary that's making a batch of very artificial vanilla taffy. The website says it's made to evoke the "ubiquitous clove cigarettes" of the Latin Quarter - never would have guessed. There is no clove, no smokiness, no tobacco. I grew up around clove-cigarette smokers and to me, there's nothing remotely reminiscent of a clove cigarette, which is not a bad thing.

I had high hopes based on the cool French name, but Quartier Latin was all Iso-E-Super and more chemicals. There was nothing unique about it, nothing memorable. It smelled dull, ambiguous, bland. Robbery to sell this for the price they ask. There is NO resemblance to Femininite du Bois, which has that beautiful, strong, natural cedar. This is a wannabe at best. According to Memo's description from their website, oil of clove leaf should be in the pyramid above, but it works out well that it is not shown here, since Quartier Latin doesn't smell like clove whatsoever.

Quartier Latin opens with dry cedar and sharp Australian sandalwood. It comes on strongly synthetic, but quickly settles into somewhat buttery woods. I did detect a soft and fleeting clove-cardamom accord. I was hoping for a clean, unisex sandalwood suitable for everyday use, but this one is lacking in dimension and body, especially for the price.

Totally woody and totally wearable. Oftentimes, woody scents can go a bit too far into the forest realm (I love it when they do), or they can become a mishmash of random woods (not so much a fan of this one), but this one blends two distinctly different woods, sandalwood and cedar wood, and the scent functions quite well as an independently unified scent. When the scent calmed down on me, the first thing I though was 'sandal + pencil shavings', and whilst this is true and correct, there is a bit more going on with it. The sandal has a gourmand element to it, almost lemony-caramely, which could have something to do with the cedar, and it is quite sweet, and probably too sweet for me. I usually like to categorise scents into a few categories; nice but not for me, nice but I have something like this already, and, nice but I'd never wear it. Unfortunately, this scent straddles all three regions equally...

This is my favorite perfume from the house. The concept and the scent go very well together and make an enlightened joyful aura. Plus,if you like sandalwood, you can't go wrong with it. At first sniff, it me reminded me of sensuous. I guess if sensuous had a lighter version Iit got to be quartier latin. It smells quite oriental woody, but light and fresh at the same time. I thought I smelt something fruity or citrusy as well, which doesn't exist here in the notes. It is labeled to be unisex, but I think it's more on the feminine side with its inoffensive calming nature.

i just smelled this at bloomingdales ..i was impressed by the entire line ,,its very strong very prominent and excellent longevity and sillage..it smells oriental warm oudy powdery amber y woody mysterious..it has sandalwood base ..very warm and seductive it could be unisex but i think its nicer on women ..i really enjoyed the entire line it has depth and character and a strong sense of universality .. heritage..and passion..its definitely niche and good nice niche ..the prices are also reasonable for what kind of juice you get compared to what we get these days..

those notes can't be the only ones in this fragrance, i can smell a milky creamy note in there which is similar to vanilla light pie. not that cloying vanilla, but the kind that is quite sophisticated and elegantly naughty. something like a clean tan skin creamy essence that is quite luring (prevent it after eating a heavy meal and being full). quite interesting and captivating, today was my 3rd test and i guess i need more cause it's quite challenging to my nose.

Quartier Latin takes a few familiar woody elements and makes something that, despite failing to transcend the genre, then at least manages to not come off repetitive or redundant. I'm reminded of Terre D'Hermes, but it's a little softer, cleaner and more subtle. A soft, spicy citrus lurks just below the surface. Very wearable.

This is woody but smooth and sort of fuzzy-smoky. It reminds me of unburnt papier d'Armenie and the drydown of cedar-based perfumes which have lost their top notes. This would be appealing for the snuggly factor, and I don't dislike it, but I won't be taking this relationship any further.

I should love this, I adore all the separate parts yet the combination leaves me quite cold, it's sort of wishy washy sweetish not very woodsy but a bit. There's something almost plastic about it sort of a synthetic vibe. A pity, I had high hopes for this one.

Quartier Latin is more about Sandalwood-Cedar mix then amber. Some lovely sandalwood here - very soft, warm and milky. This is a winter comfort fragrance. I find this fragrance to resemble the old book swell (the best kind, no mold) mixed with a Tonka bean.

Oh wow, I love this! It opens with a very creamy, cardamom-esque scent and dries down to something really clean and fresh. It reminds me of laundry dryer sheets for some reason. Perfectly unisex and lovely.

Identical to Zadig & Voltaire's "This Is Her". Buy that one instead, you'll get sooooo much more for the money. The Z&V isn't feminine in the least, so forget the name.
