Russian Leather

Memo calls this a Frozen fougere and frozen fougere it is indeed! The opening of Russian Leather is green, yes, but I pick up many other hues - purples and greens and crisp whites -a camphoraceous lavender, a beautiful pine note and a prominent peppermint that combine with (I believe) an unlisted iris note to create a thick and rich accord that transcends the sum of its parts. Very Guerlinade, in fact - the opening actually IS somewhat reminiscent of Guerlain Homme/Intense with the mint and Guerlinade combo. The opening is bracing and cold, but neither thin nor shrill. A prominent clary sage comes to the fore in the heart and is joined by nutmeg and these two notes warm the opening accord, especially as the leather note slowly surfaces as the fragrance moves to the base. Ever present throughout the frag is a gorgeous "fougere accord" - so very Guerlainesque - and it is in this context that the leather accord makes total sense. The leather in Russian Leather is more of a supple white suede coupled with a bit of warm and fuzzy animal fur. No hardcore leather here, no petroleum notes, no harsh or synthetic vibe. Honestly, the choice to go this route with the leather was brilliant as it adds so much depth to the fougere-spine of the fragrance, and it blends seamlessly with the brisk accords that come before it. I think the key to enjoying this fragrance is to go into it expecting a beautiful Guerlain-esque take on a fougere, because that's what it is. If you go in expecting hardcore animalic leather you'll surely be disappointed. But the fragrance, evaluated without expectations based on the name, is gorgeous. It is what Guerlain Homme should have been. Rich, sweet, green, vibrant and deep - a modern take on a classical structure. With regards to the rest of the base notes, the patchouli is used to add depth and a bit of darkness to the base, and the guaiac is noticeable later on, taking on an almost rosy-sandalwood like quality, but neither are major players, both being used to add shade to the central accord. Lastly, I will say the ingredients in this one smell very very natural. That's not true of all Memo fragrances - surely not some of the other leathers (Irish Leather has a nice, if rather synthetic leather accord), but this fragrance is the most natural smelling of the 12 or so Memos I've smelled.

I cannot believe I finally found this scent. There's this candle I have, it's a random candle, it says nothing but eucalypt on it, the shop I bought it in closed so I couldn't repurchase. It was fairly cheap, probably less than 5 euros but I burned it with such care. The scent was fresh, like pines and eucalyptus, kind of what you could envision a christmasy forest to smell like, fresh and covered in snow. There was also something sweet, I couldn't pinpoint it but it wasn't vanilla, kind of made me think of cinnamon (now I know it was tonka) and It just made the room smell absolutely amazing. Everytime someone came over and It was placed on a table, not even lighted on, everyone complimented the scent. I couldn't for the life of me find the candle again even if I exhausted my nose every weekend. Then I came across russian leather. There it was! My favourite candle in the entire world in a perfume, it was like someone decided to grant me a wish. It opens so fougere, so herbal, fresh, almost like a turkish bath in a hammam: opens your sinuses and makes you feel warm at the same time. It's almost resinous, waxy at times. It might not project as potently as others in the leather line but you can still feel the leather underneath the freshness, mixed with the tonka, a sweet and ever so slightly animalic ending, so creamy in contrast to the beginning, it mixes and mashes and transforms from the pine trees to a breeze at home, in the winter, under a blanket... The most notorious notes for me have to be the pine, lavender, leather and rosemary. A gorgeous barbershop scent. I think with the right attitude anyone can pull this off, I'd recommend to wear it in the winter but it's so good I can see myself craving it in the summer as well.

Purchased it due to it being described as a more potent niche version of Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Extreme which is discontinued. The description is pretty accurate. I also smell a slight resemblance to Margiela At the Barbers too. This one and Beach Hut Man are probably my favorite quasi-barbershop type niche fragrances at the moment. They are like Neo 80s powerhouse fragrances in my opinion. This one is definitely the darker of the two though. Gorgeous pine forest and high quality leather type smell that reminds me of the Van Cleef and Arpels Tsar that my dad used to wear back in the 90s. l Honestly too gorgeous for words. Definitely my favorite of the Memo leathers too. $125 on Jomashop was an absolute steal for this. I would have been willing to pay Amouage level prices for this beauty.

This is great for my tastes. I was a little concerned over the "green" label that I saw many give it, however upon smelling it, that green front is extremely aromatic and naturally sweetened by the lavender and clary sage. The greeness is extremely refreshing and aromatic as opposed to being vegetal or earthy. This is more of a pine christmas candle scent than an earthy plant smell. There is a great woody note as well giving the fragrance great structure. Definite fougere presentation. The mental picture it gives me is a snow ladened spruce or pine tree. So if you are like me and hesitant on the green label, dont be concerned. I think if you are into fougere fragrance, this will be great for you. The only knock id give it is that the leather is not very present at all.

This is first and foremost a coniferous fragrance! 🌲 As is the case with most Memo Paris Leathers, they all lack a true leather accord unfortunately. So if you're looking for a green leather fragrance go for Polo Green better. 💚 This reminds me of my childhood in Siberia 🐻 🗻where the wilderness and the forests are just like a fairy tale 🌲🌲It brings back those memories of the beauty of nature, which is the greatest beauty on earth. 🌏 The fragrance also has some icy coolness to it ❄️ ❄️ I believe that's coming from the mint, sage, lavender and pine notes (also Iso E Super). The icy coolness coupled with the coniferous vibe makes it a very special fragrance. This is my second favorite from the house after African Leather. 🐆 A video review is also available on my YT ▶️

From the title, I was hoping to get: Rocky running through the forest, being chased by Russian guards, ending with climbing to the mountain top screaming with fury "DRAGO!!!" Sadly, there was no Rocky, no danger, nothing remotely leathery. Just making a snow angel in a snowy Russian forest. This needs a flanker that is full of steroids like Ivan Drago. Ramp up the leather. Where is the musk? Memo, you can do this. If I can change... (Russian translation) And you can change... (Russian translation followed by slow claps) Then Russian Leather can change!!! (Russian translation & elation, and standing ovation) Cue "Hearts on Fire" by John Cafferty & the Beaver Brown Band and get ready for the dramatic still shot, before fading to black.

Seems like there're batch issues, so be aware of that, if you can. I (luckily) don't have any performance issues with this one. I love my vintage (and new) 80's perfumes. But sometimes I'm the only one. This gives you the same 80's fougere feel, but in a modern rendition. Quality is good and it smells expensive. Is it new and groundbreaking? Not at all. Does it have to be? No! I love this scent. It's made for guys like me. I seek out these type of modern takes on fougeres and I love them. I agree with a lot of the 'reminds me of' - Apex, BV pour homme and I'll even through in Zaharoff Signature pour homme Please note; it's remind me of, not smells similar to. They're all the classic fougere/barbershop with a modern twist

This may well be the Holy Grail of leather fragrances. The interplay between supple leather or even suede, a whisper of incense-like smokiness, crisp pine, lavender and verdant herbal nuances creates an atmosphere of pure autumnal bliss. While projection and sillage are understated, a composition this refined has no need to shout to make its presence known. The price is undeniably steep, yet some will argue that the craftsmanship and balance of the blend fully earn its premium. As someone new to the world of Memo, I’m eager to explore more of the house’s creations—though I suspect few will rival the sumptuous, almost meditative journey to Nirvana that this scent entices you into. A barbershop masterpiece.

When I first smelled it on paper, I thought "this has no relationship to the typical russian leather exercise! I cannot smell the leather even!". Yet for some reason I was really hooked, so hooked that I bit the bullet and bought it. It is on my skin now, and I love it! A beautifully made fougère with a blast of pine needles and basil upon application, with mint, cedar and a subtle note of leather. Chic, mature and all class. Certainly a beautiful addition to any wardrobe. And it certainly is the older brother of the Guerlain Homme Intense/EDP to me. Just keep an open mind before trying this one, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Got a decant because of comparisons to 1828 which I love. First impression: This is excellent. This smells like the somewhat similar to 1828 but with lavender, mint, pine, and tonka for a bit of sweetness. Maybe like a mixture of 1828 and Gaultier Le Male. But here there's background players of guaiac and leather. Many say they don't get much leather but I find it really blooms on my skin on the drydown I think this does a great job at conveying the cold tundra of a Russian forest in the winter. 🐺 Scent 9/10 Performance 4.5/10 P.S. Tested further and bought a bottle. Love this one.

I’ve been hunting for a faithful representation of pine in a perfume, and this is hands down the best I’ve come across. A frozen fougere is the perfect description. In many ways, it treads familiar territory, but that pine is just so impressively persistent and fresh. There is leather here too, but you have to really search for it. At the edges of the scent bubble this creates, it takes on more generic fougere qualities so it’s highly inoffensive. Surprised by the 1825 comparisons, they don’t make sense to me at all.

This is nice, not what I was expecting. I was expecting a green fougere based on the comments, and I am getting a creamy cardamom (dont see it listed, maybe it's a play with corriander/nutmeg/tonka), semi sweet leather with some herbal nuiances. Surprises me looking at the note breakdown, as this should definitely be green. I definitely notice the similarity with 1828 from HDM (which I own), but this is sweeter and creamier. The only real issue I see with this fragrance is the performance seems to be lacking a bit.

I get a whiff of leather at the beginning but this feels more like a walk through pine trees in a bitterly cold Finnish/Russian forest in winter, which is a big draw for me. It is a refreshingly cold (not cool) scent, although the weak leather note, on me at least, could turn leather connoisseurs off. A lovely scent all in all, evocative of winter, although the name appears to be somewhat misleading. Those who are interested in a more authentic leathery scent may want to look at Memo's French and Italian leather.

A lovely blend of pine and cypress is the most prominent, the leather note is noticeable but it stays behind the former two, the other notes create a nice background with warming sensation. The profile of the fragrance stays rather stable during the wearing, only change I noticed - it became slightly sweeter after an hour and I started to distinct lavender more. It is a beautiful fragrance for winter as it sets the scenery of a snowy forest of conifers, in the same time making you feel warm and cozy.

This was a pleasant surprise. Being that African Leather is my number one all time favorite fragrance EVER, i really didn't expect this to be anywhere near as good but I'll be damned if it didn't leave me scratching my head! Beautiful mellow frag with a perfect blend of high quality notes. Really does smell like wearing a leather jacket while walking through the most beautiful forrest with a bed of fern & lavender all around you. PERFECT!

I get the pine-y,minty,leathery fougere sensation here, the leather makes it very masculine, quite unique. performance is quite good on me, a very good work & casual scent, might not work very well on a scorhing hot weather, but I imagine will work perfectly on winter & autumn ( if my country had such a season ). My first buy for memo paris but I tested quite some on their line, most of it performs really good except for winter palace.

Opens aromatic green with a bit of earthy aspect I get an assortment of herbs such as mint, rosemary and lavender They are accompanied by aomwthing wet and earthy, probably oakmoss As it dries more i get cypress along with a fougere accord and leather in the back It still remains heavily green and aromatic with a certain note being very prominent - i'm guessing either galbanum or immortelle even though it isn't listed

I smelt this one just this past Wednesday. Russian Leather is a beautiful, warm scent that I cannot wait to try in the fall. I received a sample from the SA of Russian Leather, and Irish Leather. Both very bold fragrances, both also have hefty price tags. I will have to do some testing in the fall/winter to see how it performs. I'd suggest trying to find someone who decants and buy a split rather than retail.

Wow! What a beautiful scent. I was expecting something darker and what I got was the most beautiful easy to wear, intriguing scent I’ve come across. It’s the most beautiful blend of citrus, wood, and spice in my collection. It makes me feel confident, happy, and interesting. Pleasant surprise as it’s not the most talked about memo Paris fragrance, but now I want to know which one would I like next?

Aromatic dry leather-fern, feels pine and wood in the background (not crazy pine). I would consider it softer than typical Tom Ford leather. I would not say it is the same DNA of tom fordish leather-woody stuff, but it is something not far from it, more delicate, and it doesn't choke you. Something tells me it is more winter-season perfume, it really gives you some frozen fern/wood Siberian vibe.

Update a year and a half in: This is still a stunner for me. Such depth and beauty! I wear it often, either on a cold day or at night. Another dream of a scent by Memo. It is now my third scent from them, alongside the African Leather mega rockstar. Russian Leather is so beautiful and almost inebriating. Deep, rich, complex and very easy to wear. Amazing!

Here I was thinking African and Irish were my favourites from this house until I finally got to try Russian leather. What took so long? I dunno. If I knew it was a fantastic barbershop scent (my favourite genre) I would have grabbed it long ago. I am actually torn between which I love more, rive gauche or this. Damn, this is good. 10/10

My first Memo fragrance. I have loved it for quite a while before getting it. Spicy, aromatic, cold, big forest... the leather is not so present, it can only be felt here and there, but overall a very good pick. Good performance on my skin, wish it laster longer. Definitely my favorite out of all pieces from Memo.

Russian Leather is an aromatic, green and woody leather fragrance with a fantastic opening filled with beautiful pine, lavender, mint and other fresh herbs and spices. The drydown reveals soft and vanillic tonka bean, cedar and ashy/tarry leather that lingers for up to twelve hours on my skin.

So beautiful. Stunning, spicy. Pine needles, peppermint and nutmeg make it a perfect choice for Christmas. But you could wear it all winter. A fougère with a tantalizing leather aspect, one could even say a tobacco accord. Exquisite. Must buy.

It's a nice combination of fougere leather and it smells very icy and cold. I guess it matches Russia because of the low temperature there. Plus the bottle is absolutely one of the reasons why I buy a full bottle.

Why so underrated? This is one of the best barbershop fragrances. Very smooth and masculine. The leather is not that prominent but gives it depth. Lasted 10 hours on me with good projection.

Got this as a sample and fell in love. The pine and leather are phenomenal. As it dries down further I see what other people are talking about. Gave me dior sauvage vibes.

Intense ,Harsh , in your face... I could see myself hiking in the forest under the moonlight ,freezing. I love it.

An interesting take on a fougère. To my nose Russian Leather dials back the aromatic component of the fougère formula to the bare minimum and instead pushes the green component to a near overdose. Right after spraying this on it's almost like getting punched in the nose with fresh greenery. It's spicy, slightly aromatic and oddly enough almost a bit salty. I see a lot of people say "x marine fragrance is salty" and I don't really see it, but I do here, although it's not prominent at all. While I loved Russian Leather at first I found this salty spiciness a bit displeasing after a while but not at all to the point it would make me want to scrub this off. To me this is up there as one of the best fragrances from the Cuirs Nomades line, and it's also one of the better Memo fragrances in general, but much like the majority of fragrances from that collection I got no leather here. Performance is unfortunately not great. Just like with Argentina yesterday this seems to project strongly at first but mellows down to a more moderate projection after a few minutes. Sillage is moderate to dense but you won't be smelling it all day and it's because this only lasted about 5 hours on my skin. It's deceptive because you can smell it very clearly on skin and around you for around two hours, it makes you think this will stick around for a long time but it suddenly starts fading extremely fast.

I like this but I'm glad that I only got a travel size decant rather than the (beautiful!) full bottle that I was considering. Russian Leather to me is a spicy, aromatic cypress-leather bomb. As it dries down the pine and cedar come out more to my nose and turn it into something of a manly Christmas candle. I'm not mad at it; it's very well done but it's not quite my taste--a bit boring honestly. A great fougere option and I will end up wearing it again most certainly, but probably something I'll only be in the mood for a handful of days out of the year. If I'm in a manly leather mood I would go for my TF Ombre Leather over this in most circumstances. I would be happy to wear this as a winter or holiday scent but with so many others in my collection (Profumum Arso, Serge Lutens Bapteme de Feu, IA Cape Heartache, Rook Forest, and a number of other pine frags) it's not something I needed. I may experiment with layering Russian Leather with my more simple fragrances to add a bit of a masculine edge. It does conjure the image of a man wearing a leather jacket in a snowy pine forest so if you're looking for a signature scent with that vibe then this is definitely worth a test.

If you're searching for classic leather, shoe polish, or burnt rubber in this fragrance, you've come to the wrong place. I can say with confidence that this scent is a true play of contrasts. Its robust, luxury leather base is masterfully melted into green, needle-like herbal notes. This is a wild, forest leather; as if in the middle of a Siberian frost, you’ve pulled your expensive leather coat up to your chin and are taking deep breaths of the crisp, cool air of the pines. Rosemary and sage haven't arrived to hide the leather—they are here to give it grandeur and character. I was NOT expecting to like this one as much as I do. "Frozen Fougere" is a perfect general description, and would have been a better name than Russian Leather. This fragrance conjures up the image of a cold, crisp, sunny winter's day outside: It's about 9am on a Saturday in mid-November; the temperature is about 37°, but the sun is out and bright. It's the perfect setting to go for a nice walk before the college football games kick off and consume your afternoon. Russian Leather would be the ideal fragrance to accompany this scenario. The pine tree, cypress and leather combination is just beautiful. It does have a bit of an 80's vibe, with the lavender note providing brief toe-dips into barbershop territory. I see many likening Russian Leather to Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Extreme, which is in the same general ballpark and must be due to them both sharing the prominent note of pine, but I find Russian Leather to be the superior fragrance. Russian Leather is brighter and more uplifting than Bottega Veneta Pour Homme Extreme...which I find sharper and darker in tone.

This is a great woody-aromatic Fougere fragrance. The pine tree, cypress, and fern together with the cedar wood were used to give the vibe of the pine forest. Lavender is very dominant and along with the clarysage gives a fougere barbershop character to the fragrance. The concept of the fragrance is the northern real: the massive pine forest in a cold virgin, and mysterious land of Russia or Canada. But is the fragrance really committed to the concept? the answer is NO. Tonka, coriander, and nutmeg are warm notes and have no relation to the cold northern forest nature. These notes were added to give a luxurious and mass-pleasing character to the fragrance and for marketing purposes. So, although the scent is very nice, it does not remind me of the wild nature and characteristics of the true northern land. To me, this is a weakness for a niche brand that moves away from the concept and adds notes for mass-pleasing. This is a very high-quality and highly refined UPPER LEVEL DESIGNER type of fragrance. 7.5/10

(Older Wolf bottle) The opening is fucking fantastic for about 10min where the mint & green notes blend to create a cold/ snowy forest experience. The best fougere experience I’ve ever come across 💯. Once the dry down hits, the guaiac wood & leather are extremely amplified & the fragrance becomes smoky as hell. The top notes are smothered by a cloud of rubbery smoke 😩 that weaves in and out with the tonka bean. Read the story behind the fragrance & you’ll completely understand this scent- Russian soldiers out in the cold forest & a nearby campfire burning. It’s quite nice, but the smoky leather smelling like burning rubber kills it for me. Edit 7/28/23 Thinking of that opening & I just purchased a full bottle lol. (New bottle design). Minty freshness throughout. In the far dry down the guaiac is no longer. you’re left w/ a delicious powdery tonka & leather kept fresh by the mint.

Starts off with a smooth, spicy hay-woody like smell, then transitions to a mellow spicy, woody scent, more like a mellow fougère, if you will. The leather is there, but it's abstract with the other notes I mentioned combined with it. It's a pretty solid clean fragrance, though as mentioned, the leather isn't distinguishable (or really lack thereof), as the other notes are really what come on top. I can't remember anything else that smells like this so this gets points for that aspect, but personally I would only wear this on a mood or on a date night out, which is perfectly fine. This could even work as an office fragrance since it's not that offensive. The artwork captures the gist of the fragrance in an elegant way, but it's not in anyway carnal-like, or overly aromatic like Tyrannosaurus Rex. Not in a rush to buy a bottle, but it's pretty pleasant and unique IMO.

meh...? It really isn't anything special. It sadly smells like a generic barbershop product, be it a high quality one, but still just ok. For such a pricepoint I expected something more interesting. I have tested this scent on paper first and there I felt this forest vibe with it. I could even say it was a realistic forest, but more wearable and mainstream than some of the artisinal perfumes. I then found the bottle on a discounter website and decided to get it based on just that memory. Maybe that's why I am a bit disappointed as it did not reach my expectations from the first time i tried it. I mean its nice, but it is not a forest scent I expected, just a regular men's foresty-fresh cologne.

Just tried this on - it's a really nice leather fougere blend. Though this remains like and not love because surprisingly it comes slightly close to British Leather, which I absolutely adore. The main difference is what gives the sweetness to the leather - here it's herbs and florals like lavender (and it's a really nice lavender in here) Honestly it's a matter of taste - if you like your leather a little softer and the scent more warm and cosy and more unisex, this is the pick. If, however you like your leather to be a bit animalic and the scent to be a bit more masculine, British Leather is the way to go. Will now give this is a full wearing at some point. 8/10 for initial impression

Described by the brand as a "frozen fougère", this really hits the mark. If you've tried other scents in the "Russian leather" genre, don't expect this to smell like those, because this has nothing to do with that style of perfume except in name. This is more of a classic fougère but with pine, cypress, and mint amped up a lot to give it that cold and astringent feel. There is not much leather in here at all. There's really not that much more I can say about it expect that I think you should try it out if you are a fougère and barbershop-style fragrance fan but want something different to what you usually smell, and especially if you want a fougère that is great for winter.

Leather? No... Russian? Maybe... well made? Yes.. In a nutshell... RL is a slow walk through a freshly snow covered forest. A frozen fougere scents fills the air... an occasional aromatic, fresh, clean and creamy note is carried by the cold breeze... with every fresh foot print you leave in the snow... RL is a very complex and well crafted scent with good projection and longevity on my skin. Works well in a sports coat or trendy casual attire Overall, not a bad scent, but not ground breaking and not worth the retail price IMO. Bottom line: If you like the frozen fougere idea, try a sample of this. If you are looking for leather, look elsewhere.

This one is fairly light on the leather. You do get this barbershop type scent. And some notes do remind me of the Burberry London for Men EDT. Mostly due to the tree notes. As for the Barbershop scent , it does have a light Pasha de Cartier blend. Though Pasha de Cartier is much warmer. I'd categorize Russian Leather as a Fresh Barbershop Pine scent. The dry down is really good. The initial spray can be harsh. Give it 20 minutes to settle down . It's definitely not strong enough for the winter. You can definitely wear this in the other months. $175 for 2.5oz or less is a good price to pay for this.

Aromatic, Woody with a bit of sweetness. So accustomed to the perpetual citrus opening of most colognes, I was shocked by Russian Leather. No introductions, bam! Pine, lavender, tonka bean, basil all in your face at once. And yet, it's an organized multitude. At first it's like entering a forest, your nose adjust to the surroundings, the green, resins, woods. Then as you go deeper and deeper into the woods, you find solitude, a sense of calm and safety. Tonka bean, guaiac wood, patchouli, nutmeg, they create a warm, cozy sanctuary. Pure bliss.

This is a nice (coniferous) Woody-Aromatic Fougere. Evidently there is a very subdued Leather accord buried underneath all those (coniferous) Woody-Aromatic Fougere accords. Makes one wonder why its named Russian Leather. Its creaminess pairs well with that understated leather accord. Some of the 'This perfume reminds me of....' items are nutty though. Russian Leather doesn't remind me much of MDCI Invasion Barbare or YSL Rive Gauche, despite the Fougere elements. And this is certainly not similar to neither Guerlain nor Dior Homme.

Very interesting niche quality cool weather fougere. Everyone on here says they get very little leather if any, but to me its 50% of the whole scent, the other 50% being a cool, emerald green fougere. There must be some batch variation. Very elegant and high quality interpretation of a classic barbershop scent with a leather twist. When I smell this I imagine a date night at a nice restaurant when there’s snow on the ground. Only drawback is the performance. Only lasts about 4 hours before its completely gone :(

I really like the way this barbershop, fougere fragrance offers green and earthy notes. I could have sworn it had vetiver in it as well. Winter pine trees describe it perfectly. But leather....? What leather....? Leans masculine for sure, and it is good at all times of the day. Though it is more of a winter fragrance, I have no problem wearing it throughout the year. Shame about the longevity though (or lack thereof). This causes me to give it a lower score. Rating: 7/10
