Apple of My Eye

I remember more than ten years ago, around 2010-2011, there was a popular Taiwanese movie online called "You are the apple of my eye". Thanks to that movie, I learned about the love confession in English, roughly "Apple of my eye" meaning the most wonderful thing in my eyes. Sometimes, a bottle of perfume will attract you because of the packaging, or the scent that is talked about around the world, or simply the fancy name, in this case. When experiencing Apple of my eye, I have a feeling of a very special scent with a clear, bright, clean, slightly musky-powdery scent of Cashmere wood, and a slightly spicy scent of cloves, soothed by the soft feel of roses. It all blends together smoothly on a base of cedar and white musk. I don't know if it was accidental or intentional from Memoire Des Sens, but Apple of my eye gives off a vibe similar to Le Labo's Thé Noir 29. It's both soft and gentle, caressing the sense of smell, but at the same time exudes a strange tea-smelling vibe, making people want to learn more and smell it forever. Sometimes, a gift with a meaningful name will say what you want to say on your behalf. And here, when you want to confess your love to someone, or simply want to tell them that they are extremely important to you, try sending your sincere thoughts into the Apple of my eye. Because simply, no matter what the result is, you will reap a lot when you dare to speak your heart, especially in a very subtle way when it is a scent!

This is a fantastic fragrance! It’s very similar to Le Labo Thé Noir 29, but I think I might even like it more. Apple of My Eye opens with an aromatic accord of tea and rose. In the background, you can sense woody notes and musk. Even though they’re not listed, I swear I can also smell tobacco leaves and fig. In the drydown, a beautiful creamy rose and soft woods remain. It lasts about 7 hours on my skin, and for days on clothes. The bottle is also gorgeous - dark turquoise glass with a heavy magnetic cap. I bought this fragrance blind, hoping it would be similar to Thé Noir (I previously tried dupes from Dossier and Divain, but didn’t like them), but it exceeded my expectations. I absolutely love it. I’m not sure whether the similarity was intentional or not, but the result is beautiful. It feels a tad more feminine than Thé Noir but still perfectly unisex.

You can buy it for extremely cheap in the UK right now, so this was a blind buy. The bottle cap is heavy and snaps into position magnetically, which is quite fun to fiddle with. The perfume itself unfortunately smells vaguely of urine/a bathroom on my skin in the opening, but layering it with a cleaner musk gets rid of those unpleasant notes and lets the tea shine through. On clothes or a tester trip, the wood is much more prominent.
