Encens Liquide

I'm going to admit it.no bought this because of the box. I had never heard of this perfume... i was browsing through TJ MAXX'S perfume section and there it was, a little book with perfume inside. It was irresistible. I hopped on Fragrancia to check out the notes and reviews. Incense... Yuck... Musk... Yuck. I bought it anyway, I don't know. I sprayed it on in the car and it was divine. It was incense (I don't like incense) but not chokey smokey incense. I like light citrus scents, not a touch of citrus and not particularly light. Then the incense (I don't like incense) merged with rich vanilla (hey, there's no vanilla listed!) I couldn't stop smelling my wrist. It didn't smell like vanilla cupcakes, no, it was enveloping, wrapping me in soft, warm, somewhat exotic vanilla incense. No harshness, definitely not unisex, with which I usually associate balsamic scents. I am in love. I judged the perfume by it's cover (heh) and hit the luckiest blind buy ever.

This one evolves incredibly fast, so pay attention. Upon first spray, it smells exactly like Must de Cartier or CK Obsession. That very quickly gives way to "dried greens", like dried tea leaves or bay leaves, something in that vein of scent. Then there's a peppery scent that flits through. After 15 minutes, amber shows up (fashionably late of course). Incense comes back to greet her. Then musk comes in to bring it down to earth. The ending smells very much like vanilla, but I'm pretty sure that's the amber and musk playing nicely together with just a lingering wisp of incense. The drydown is very simple, and the opening holds all the drama.

This is the most divine incense perfume ever! It's beautiful - really absolutely beautiful!!!! I fell head-over-heels-in-love with it from the moment I first saw it!!! The box is so gorgeous! And then again when I saw the bottle, and AGAIN (but even more so!!!) when I smelled it!!! Oh my my my, what a dreamy smell!!! Sweet and woody. Fragrant. It's gorgeous!!! Such a lovely gentle delicate, not thick and overwhelming, incense. It is a beautiful smell - I can't describe it! Aand it lingers on and on, all day! Oh....divine!! It makes me feel so calm and peaceful! Beautiful!! The perfume is simply - GORGEOUS!!!

I blind bought this. I probably should not have. The note listing sounded sublime, but on first sniff (and when compared to my Spadaro Doux Amour) this little thing did not stand a chance. While the incense is lovely and the combination of notes works well, I was a little bored, gotta say. Thankfully, I can return this to the store where I bought it, and very likely exchange it for something a little more peppy and exciting. Also, the packaging is to-die-for. I'm a bibliomane so it's hard for me to return this perfume due to the "book box" in which it's packaged. Helas.

Reminds me SO much of Oriza L. Legrand's Empire Des Indes. Not identical but 95% similar. This lacks the added complexity and touch of vanillic sweetness but it's a near dead ringer. I think this one is a bit more wearable for everyday, I'm trying to decide which one I like more because I can't justify owning both when they're so similar. Both are so beautiful though. EDIT: I can't stop coming back to my sample of this. It is so lovely even with how simple it is, it's irresistible. I had to pick up a bottle.

Definitely my favorite in the line. It's not pungent and strong like Avignon, Cardinal or dark/musty like Messe de Minuit. This is a very gentle incense that is masterfully blended with amber and resins. It's a bit similar to Passage de Enfer but a bit sweeter. Though it's subtle, people around you will definitely notice and this scent lasts very long that you don't need to re-apply in the afternoon. Although it's marketed to women, guys can easily pull this off as well.

Yum! This goes on sweet, ambery, and woody, with loads of vanilla and even a little incense. However, as the blurbs say, it’s more of a cedar wood incense than the typical olibanum incense. Whatever it is, it’s a lovely, almost gourmand, combination. It’s strong, it has lots of sillage, and it’s persistent, retaining the ambery vanilla character for 4 hours or so and then gradually transforming into an excellent white musk scent. I thoroughly enjoy wearing this.

Let me say that I dont think this smells like Shalimar TO ME. But it may to others. That is perfectly fine with me!!!!!! What I do smell is a similarity to Roberto Cavali Oro. Deep velvety vanilla mmmmm! This is really beautiful!!!!!

Memoire Liquide has been rebranded, it's now called EMES Fragrance and they still carry the Memoire Liquide line.

This is all about a warm, creamy, buttery amber that meets a whispy, gentle incense.

I was wondering whether the wrong vial might have been affixed to the wrong card for this Mémoire Liquide perfume because the description for Encens Liquide makes no mention whatsoever of vanilla or tonka or whatever it is in this composition which imparts which sweetness to the opening. This is definitely a sweeter oriental incense perfume, when I was expecting something more woody, given the notes of soft amber resin, white musk, black tea and hinoki incense. I suppose that the amber could be said to include vanilla, but the opening of this perfume is sweet enough to warrant mentioning vanilla as a separate note. Having read other reviewers' reactions, I see that I am not alone. Everyone else is mentioning the vanilla. The perfume does dry down less sweet, but I would call this an oriental before a woody (incense) perfume. It's pretty nice and more feminine than the Incense series of Comme des Garçons, and other compositions in the incense category, most of which are quite a bit less sweet than this one. The quality seems pretty good--better than most designer fragrances but not as good as Montale or Serge Lutens (both of which offer several woody and amber perfumes).

Sweetened, dry wood infused incense is what Encense Liquide smelt like in the first several minutes after application. Later on, it goes linear with a more distinguished dry vanilla hint which pushes the incense part to shine. It’s so well balanced, sensual, dry sweet, yet not pushy (as some more serious incense niche perfumes I find a bit too strong and the incense is too solid to be inhaled) or too much vanilla-y-induced-foody. Somehow, I find this one deserves the name of Amour Liquide more than the actual Amour Liquide from Memoire Liquide. Nice scent for slightly cooler weather!

My sample of this lovely juice reminds me so much of the lovely Balmain Ambre Gris, even though don't seem to share much in the way of notes. Ensense to my nose is a gentler version of Balmain AG and does not have the same lasting power. I'm partial to balmy, warm spicy frags in cooler weather so I really like it but I already have a full bottle of Ambre Gris and they are just too similar to have both.

Encens Liquide was a recent T.J. Maxx find I didn't immediately regret. It surprises me that vanilla is not listed as a note because I find this fragrance to be predominantly incense and vanilla. When I first sprayed Encens Liquide, I was reminded of cracking open the case of an old violin. A hint of wood held captive in an airless space. As the incense comes to life it retains that quality of something from long ago, like a trunk of textiles that captured ambery perfume oils and incense before being packed away for years. I wouldn't say this incense is on par with Comme des Garcons, but it is impressive all the same. Soon Encens Liquide takes on a sweet vanilla quality. Sweet like cake batter. Fortunately the smoke and possibly the listed tea note keep the vanilla from becoming so sweet it might seem unsophisticated. Amber becomes apparent in the drydown. Encens Liquide is somewhat linear with soft sillage and lasting power of 2-3 hours. The delicious vanilla and incense accords remind me more of the type one might find in a perfume oil. As I mentioned, my current bottle was a T.J. Maxx purchase. In this case I wonder if my bottle is a bit flat. Perhaps bottles fresh out of production had more complexity. I enjoyed wearing Encens Liquide around the house a handful of times, but I plan to set it aside for more complex vanillas and exotic incenses.

I happened to be smelling Encense Liquide alongside Le Labo's Labdanum 18 the other day, and I noted some strong similarities between them. Labdanum 18, for those that don't know the fragrance, is a rather strong, yet feminine incense and woods scent. Encense Liquide is in some ways the same, except it's much lighter, more generic and sweeter. Both fragrances are pleasing, especially from my incense-loving perspective. Encense Liquide is smooth, quite ethereal and pretty. Like I have mentioned in other reviews, I find Memoire Liquide a rather friendly niche house, producing scents suitable for a younger crowd. In my opinion, this is incense for beginners. I'm already too far gone into the incense category, so I find Encense Liquide far too weak for my tastes. However, it's a lovely fragrance for those who want only a subtle hint of smokiness. It's a very delicate ambery incense on my skin. This fragrance lasts extremely well, a lot longer than I had expected. It has a real expensive feel to it, almost luscious in a way. Encense Liquide strikes me as being very girly and sweet. It's somehow caught between being an innocent girl and a confident woman.

Very straightforward, but if you are thinking of buying it, my guess is that's what you're seeking! Think Messe de Minuit (I've only tried the second version), but with all the "bells and whistles" gone. So I don't get any "damp basement" or something like that here, but I also don't get the listed tea note. I'll update if anything changes, but right now it's mostly incense and vanillic amber. As to the reviewer who compared this to Obsession, the florals are not here, whereas they are obvious in Obsession.

I have Memoire Liquide's Encens Liquide on one wrist and Tom ford's Ambre Absolute on the other. The only difference that I can see is that the Encens Liquide plays up the incense note a little more while the Ambre Absolute plays up the amber a little more. However, both are balsamic, woody, slightly smokey and spicy to the point where they're extremely similar. In the end the biggest difference is the price only(I found the Encens Liquide at TJ Maxx).

Blind bought this because I love incense. This is not so much incense as it is almost identical to old CK Obsession from the 80s. I haven't smelled it in so long that I'm not sure if it's changed since I bought it way back when but this is Obsession as I remember it.

The initial spray is very resinous. As it dries down, it becomes a lovely vanilla/insence mix that's unique and comforting. It reminds me of Cashmere Mist, but more grown up,

Re the questions about vanilla, tonka, etc. not being mentioned in the notes. Often, for obvious reasons, perfumers will not reveal EVERYTHING in their formula.
