Tokyo

So I of course really enjoy the fragrance that apparently everyone else rated so badly. I really don't understand that at all because this is one of the better orris fragrances I have smelled in quite a long time. It is absolute after all. How bad can that be if you are sourcing an ingredient that is coming from one of the best selections available. I really don't understand people sometimes. Perhaps they simply do not enjoy Iris? If you don't, why are you testing out and rating something so poorly when you know full and well what you are about to experience? It seems as though Tokyo is one of the four fragrances Jean-Claude released this year. Apparently it's been around three years since his last creation. I'm curious as to why? Perhaps he is thinking about retirement. He has done some iconic works, however I am not too familiar with his style. He did create Clinique Happy and I believe he also did Organza? I sprayed this on my skin about 25 minutes ago and it has not changed very much. It is simply orris absolute and it is like butter. I love that smell. It's so creamy and soft and perhaps a little bit melancholic. It's very beautiful and perfect for when you are in the mood for a fragrance like that. There is not much else to say. The longevity is outstanding. The other fragrances from this collection lasted a minimum of 14 hours. I am assuming that is going to happen here as well. You can definitely smell this from more than an arms length away. I appreciate that as well. I will say I do not have anything from this brand in my collection. I haven't even really explored. Perhaps you guys can tell me if I'm missing something. That's pretty much it. I will report back if anything changes. So far this feels like a beautiful orris soliflore and I am perfectly OK with that.

This is a soft and sophisticated dry woody iris scent that is aromatic and fresh spicy. To me it represents Kyoto more than Tokyo in the sense that it smells very zen and peaceful. To me this smells completely unisex and would be well suited to Autumn or Spring. It reminds me a great deal of Lost Alice by Masque Milano, it seems they share a lot of similar notes, such as sandalwood, orris and rose. Tokyo is not as sweet or playful but rather a serious and even slightly melancholy older cousin.

Intimate, cosy iris scent that is quite makeup/lipsticky in the dry down. The hinoki wood and orris are very dominant this one. This scent comes off to me as musty and dry to my nose - with this scent I picture sitting in a home office of mahogany oak wood, where the windows haven’t been opened for days and dust is pilling up but a small iris scented candle is burning in a corner. I don’t get any vanilla until it has been sitting for an hour or so then it comes in. The oud is non existent to my nose. If you enjoy Father Figure, Glossier You, L’Papier types of scents you will love this. I think it’s missing musk and some sweetness for my personal taste.

Completely buns for the first 14 hours. Last hour its kind of good. After spraying, you're ambushed with artificial rose and sickly, non-sweet flowery-adjacent notes. The dry down is very woody, a boring yet pungent and painful wood smell.

Out of all the new extraits, I thought this one was the stand out. You must like Orris/Iris though or you won’t enjoy this as that’s the dominating note. Iris is my favorite note so I knew this one would be a hit for me. Ambrette is also quite apparent which is another favorite note of mine, it gives it a nice musk to it. It’s not as loud as the others but I wouldn’t want it that way honestly. I think it preforms perfectly for the scent profile. It’s not so intimate that people won’t smell you, it does project in your bubble but it’s not so loud that it is overwhelming either. Tokyo is cozy and comforting and dare I say, slightly sexy... to me anyways. Powdery, warm, skin like, woody and subtle vanilla, just beautiful! At first sniff on a tester strip I wasn’t so sure but then I wore it and I began to love it. The projection isn’t big but you will be smelled by those close to you. I got told I smelled really good when I wore it and it lasts forever on clothes and skin. I sprayed it on my bath robe and all week I could smell it on there and when I would take it off somehow the scent was on my arm too subtly. Not complaining because it’s beautiful, just it’s longer lasting and more potent than I had originally thought as I was just going to chalk it up to a skin scent but it’s got more body than that. I don’t get any oud which for me is a good thing. To me it’s basically a powdery, musky, orris/iris scent with vanilla and woody elements. Unisex, maybe leaning slightly more to the fem side. The new bottles are luxe too btw!

Orris, orris, orris, orris.. did I mention orris? This one starts extremely woody, kind of reminded me of Le Labo Santal. Then it’s just straight forward orris and maybe a TINY bit of Iris? It feels extremely dry, desert like. I like it, I guess? But in my opinion this is not office safe or “easy” to wear. Think I’ll safe it for special occasions like Christmas.
