Avaritia

This fragrance is described as - An oriental blend of amber and patchouli, with sweet musk, interlaced with vanilla and spices, and a top note of citrus & herbs. It has a lovely opening some citrus and the warmth of the amber comes through, hints of sweet vanilla come through after the dry down. Lasted 4 hours so far on my skin and counting. longevity in the Memoize collection is a consistent factor. I still like the Black Avaritia best I think!

I own Avaritia because Jovoy’s “Psychedelique” had been out of stock for so long. Due to my extreme impatience, I had bought Reminiscence “Patchouli”, which I found to be nothing like Psychedelique, but nice in its own right. I feel as if I had discovered Avaritia by accident. I was visiting a friend at Selfridges when she had to serve a customer. And so I wandered around the fragrance hall to try out some scents. Stopping at Memoize, the brand representative showed me a handful of perfumes based on the fragrance notes I liked, and I was immediately drawn to Avaritia, asking to try it on my skin. To cut a long story short, I ended up buying it, and subsequently made notes on a side by side comparison with a sample of Psychedelique that I had, because I find them to be so similar. On my skin, Psychedelique opens instantly with a warm amber accord (reminiscent of Ambre Premiere) compared to Avaritia’s piney, resinous warmth. On a blotter, P appears to distribute fleeting citrus notes amongst the overall vanillic sweetness, whereas Avaritia is a bit brighter, already showcasing the fresh, piney amberwood in its base. However, P does swiftly follow suit in this almost medicinal, resinous stage for a moment, possibly from the cistus. It is only during this beginning phase where the two fragrances could be considered distinct. Psychedelique, to me, develops to that sweet Jovoy amber before the earthy patchouli gradually bleeds out and takes over. With Avaritia, this same earthy patchouli dry down is slower to settle as the fragrance retains its brightness and an invigorating character from the cedar and the geranium. I find both to be quite similar, with each displaying interchangeable analogies; Psychedelique is warmer, a bit linear yet smoother, and has mad sillage. Avaritia is resinous, more complex, and is maybe slightly discreet when compared to the former. Psychedelique is tenacious on the skin even after a scrub, but Avaritia had lasted on a blotter for a week, where Psychedelique was gone in around three days. Both have a similar earthy patchouli, petrichor, ambery dry down. If you like Psychedelique, if you’re into your earthy, chocolatey patchoulis, do try out Avaritia. (Edit: 2025 - I offered this to my sister as she likes rich, warm scents, and she did not like this at all. To her it smelled of mint and nothing else. Strange.)

Opens up with a fir resin and musky sharpness, this doesn't mess around in letting you know it's a indie bomb of a fragrance but crucially not a patchouli one...at least not for the first few minutes. Then the patchouli comes on stronger and stronger as it settles to a very earthy, soil tincture that would satisfy any patchouli lover. For me though I like patch when offset or tempered by other elements, this however uses darkly resinous tones and other stuff which makes it slightly too rich and peaty for my blood. Don't get me wrong it's really good and in fact turns on it's head again in the 3rd act because the drydown gets really cozy and resinous again almost to the point of an oriental amber. Great quality and thanks to Memoize for the sample, I enjoyed it.

Very similar to psychedelique by jovoy. Got me 3 compliments at work, and I never get compliments. I don't personally love it but I definitely enjoy wearing it and I can definitely say it smells better in the air than it does on skin. Long lasting and strong aswell. For £50 from £177 this is an absolute steal

Testing blind I thought this was another viscous brandy leather fragrance, but surprisingly that is the jist of what I get even though the notes say otherwise. They all make sense, adding up to something more than their individual parts. It does have a syrup sweetness to it, and the alcoholic element is probably coming from the Artemisia, while the citrus provides some sweetness. The patchouli is apparent, but more Herby medicinal in this case. I think I appreciate it more now knowing it isn't another liquor driven leathery fragrance, but still at bay given the pronounced patchouli lean to it.
