North

Well this is just lovely and strangely addictive. A cedar sauna in Finland hung with dried flowers, snow falling outside, and skin rubbed with oils of jasmine, vetiver and bergamot... and yes, a bit of pepper. There is no one around for miles and there is a feeling of absolute peace. This is a very dry, earthy and woodsy perfume. I got this in "The Old Library" sample pack from Bloom and it was described as "An old monastery library". I can see that image too - the cedar beams, the earthy dust swirling in motes, the burning incense (patchouli, vetiver, and pepper have a frankincense-esque quality). It is, in essence, the smell of quiet places. The perfect meditative scent.

Absolutely gorgeous - the scent so captures alpine meadows and mountains. Not my usual mix of notes - but the dry cedar is really enhanced by the soft sprinkling of florals and an underlying earthiness. It gives an undeniable sense of being outside in fresh mountain air. Natural, distinctive + very beautiful! Meravigliosa! 😊

The best cedarwood that I have ever smelled on a fragrance, hands down. All the other notes give the dry forest ambiance. Strong projection and longevity. Love it so much, it is a pity it's expensive, but here you get what you pay for. Edit: you only live once. I will get a full bottle

Welcome to a Swedish sauna... The scent of The North This is one of the first niche fragrance that entered in my collection. It is sharp, dry, elegant and simple, like Scandinavian modern architecture. What I get smelling this juice are many things not listed in the notes break-down. Apart from cedar (main player) which It's shown dry, freshly cut and raw, I feel incense and some short of eucalyptus... this could be the aldehydes playing with the vetiver and a pinch of citruses. The end result to me is like entering a 5 star modern Scandinavian resort, in the middle of a forestry fjord, where some incense is being burnt in the the entrance and you go inside the cedar-wooden sauna. Inside the sauna you may find this little bunches of eucalyptus branches, sauna whisks, to rub them in your skin, getting scent of The North. Uniqueness: High Scent: 7.5/10 Performance: Average Would I buy it: Yes (already in my collection)

The shop assistant described it as the "cold" scent which uses only "cold" ingredients. I can honestly say that this is a very precise description of the lovely fume that this is..It just has a very crisp atmosphere with a lush combination of cedar and green notes with, of course, florals.. Lovely creation. It is very versatile and I imagine it would work in the winter as well as it does in the summer...

This smelt amazing on the strip, but just gives me a serious black pepper bomb on the skin, annoyingly. That being said - still really nice, super addictive. Just not what I'd anticipated

First impressions are blond wood furniture loaded with fresh varnish and polish. There's lots of cedar and the cloud of aldehydes and terpenes that vaporises off my skin make this lean towards paint thinner in the early opening but as it settles and smooths it blooms. Alongside that uplifting, airy cedar a distinct bergamot emerges up top, nutmeg in the heart and a refined Terre d'Hermès-style vetiver in the base. There's also a mysterious, cool greeness in the mix — I thought moss or a tomato leaf accord initially but seems it's just the choice of cedar in combination with steam-like aldehydes. North tests much better on skin. That greeness becomes more coniferous and the woods are a little softer and soapier. On me it dries very soapy at first but then a couple of hours later the cedar's woodier side returns to dominate. Overall, an enjoyable sauna-ish vibe of fresh pale woods supported with scalded steam and clean, unperfumed soap

Yellow flying birds startled, looking north to the gray sky. The pointed beak indicates the direction of migration. Perhaps there are some newly built tall pine houses over there, where the bitter people who have covered the past are waiting? Along the way, the population is sparse, with small white flowers scattered, and the clear cold light penetrates the tips of the leaves. But the road is still a bit far. Intention, it doesn't make me feel cold, maybe because I am from the south? It says: Wake up, it's time to set off.

If you like this, try Greylocke by PHLUR, which smells more natural, is stronger, more affordable and doesn't seem to have the Iso E Super that I notice in North. If I didn't already own Greylocke, I would have loved this one. Both of them are like a bright, fairly sharp, totally dry conifer forest.

If you're not drawn to the northern european minimalist aesthetic applied to perfumery, you should probably stop reading this now. There's really nothing interesting here. Instead, if what you're after is an aloof and yet affable composition, North is well worth checking out. A combo of sparkling aldehydes, bright green citruses with robotic, kind of soapy, florals revolving around a smooth cedarwood foundation that will make the joy of every fragrance modernist. North is the opposite of an old-fashioned fragrance. In fact, it's modern synths galore but the whole composition is handled with the right amount of restraint and intelligence to never border into cheap, mall-style, synth dry woody stuff. Imagine CDG's Seprentine, some of the Geza Schoen's more sparkling offerings and Nu-Be Oxygen and you get close to this fragrance profile. It's cold and detached while still feeling very wearable and affable. It's essential and straight to the point without resulting simplistic. The base is more of a been there done that kind of affair. The usual peppery-cedarwood combo with some spicy-incensey facets but, again, while being remarkably synth, it never feels cheap or uninspired. Probably not groundbreaking and surely overpriced but, at least, it smells very nice. Rating: 7/10

Mendittorosa says their perfumes are "scents for the soul". They have a depth and complexity that makes each an exceptional scent. North's dramatic artistry highlights Anne-Sophie Behaghel's talent, a deft mix of metallic ozone and aldehyde swirled together with woody spices and citrus. She made my other Mendittorosa favorite, ID. The opening of North is a forceful blend of top notes. Every time I smelled my wrist I got a different impression. It went through transitions that ran the gamut from sweet to cool, dry to haunting. Ozonic notes lift and clarify, giving it an arid moonscape feel. It has a dry eerie impact, oddly like sensing the air around steam coming out of an iron. (A similar effect as the aldehydes in Stephen Jones - on Luca Turin's Top 10 "Best Strange Fragrance" list, that gives off a weird Steampunk, clothes iron vapor effect - unique, memorable, glorious!) The drydown for North is a crisp citrus over a cedar/spice foundation . . . buffeted by constant ozonic winds. Sillage stronger than a skin scent, longevity several hours.

The first time I tested this fragrance, I did not like it. There was something of a strong, bitter herbal note to it that turned me off. I've tested it a few times since and loved it. It strikes me as a fougere, with a masculine-leaning pine backbone. It's woody, soft, cool and generally likable. I have several fragrances with similar accords in my collection, so I won't buy the full bottle, but it really is nice. I noticed the bottles for this house look similar to the bottles used by the Aura of Kazakhstan. Does anyone know if there's a relationship?

The whole perfume is dry and lean, from beginning to finish. However, that initial blast has a tender feeling, like a dry flower open on a dehydrated wood block, and died in seconds. Except for the pretty out-spoken dry-woody accord, I actually get that "plastic" feeling of incense, probably the aldehydic C-12 as in Avignon by CdG. It also give out a slightest hint of sweetness. I don't get any pepper. The deprivation of all moisture reminds me of Bois D'hiver by ex nihilo, sans the pepper notes.

My immediate impression was a fruitiness resembling the bouquet of some wines and spirits. There is a kind of banana fruitiness which is also found in the perfume Aurore Nomade ffrom the Different Company. Butterscotch. Ethyl acetate, industrial solvents, cellulose thinners. Manly sweat. There is an underlying woodiness and possibly a touch of Badedas. In general the fragrance is interesting and different. I can't say it embodies a northern concept, for me.

A woody aromatic with some sort of mystery note, opoponax,strax, some patchouli molecule ? It smells like a bright aromatic with a wood note that lasts and acts like a top note and another note that is aldehydic or unique Overall this is a nice scent, but more mature.Fairly well rounded, not dry, and full, but no sweetness really I find it unisex, but masculine leaning A interesting fragrance, but too daring for me right now

a little bit of an aromachemical kick to this. i thought there might be styrax in the mix, but i'm mistaken. there's a little 'tokyo' by kenzo vibe about this. could be just me, though. anyway, nice and interesting. worth a try...

in the trail/from afar it feels herbal woody and very light, like a smell of the nature in the open. but when I listen up closely I smell bananas with butter and... acetone? weird. I prefer the South from this line.

I find this is really simular to Amouage Reflection 45 they are the same direction imo. The aldehyde quality of this created a more airy personality wherease Reflection 45 is more rounded with the floral.

sawdusty, atmospheric, bracing, yet so calming. This like a sauna in the middle of an icy forest, it’s steamy, soapy, floral, and earthy. So expensive smelling and a little vintage undertone to it too

Opens with fatty aldehydes, along with a sweet grassy accord almost like fig leaf, and moves to Atlas cedar/Virginian cedar combo with noticeable ozonic accord.
