When darkness enters our lives, we feel lost and trapped in its tarry embrace. Then the pain comes in its perennial black wave, obscuring our horizon as it shatters into a thousand pieces, viewed through the prism of our hopeless tears. In that moment, we bear witness to the fading of all hope, the collapse of dreams, and, most painfully so, the death of love. Buio is the olfactory representation of that darkness and the pain that comes, rendering us immobile, mute, senseless to anything but the growing chasm within our hearts that threatens to swallow us with every laboured breath we take. When I first tried this creation, I had the rare honour and privilege of having Meo himself present it to me personally. Buio – meaning “darkness“ in Italian – opens with an onslaught of cade oil, olibanum and carrot seed which paint the olfactory image of thick black smoke embued with a profound tarriness. There isn't a single ray of light to save us from this darkness as we watch our precious treasures burn to feed its infernal furnaces. The vision is obscured, the mind overcome with a howling emptiness that threatens to devour the soul. As the smoke clears, frankincense takes the forefront, purifying the worst of the pain and empowering the spirit to gather enough strength to push through. The heart of this fragrance consists of warm labdanum and a bouquet of tenebrous, comforting florals consisting of geranium, magnolia, osmanthus and peony. Wistful and ethereal florals give hints of levity and sombre beauty to the dense, smoky incense. Buio starts pulsating on the skin, like a little black heart beating to the rhythm of its caprices. The dry-down is an intoxicating, leathery concoction of dark amber, enhanced with the classic oriental base notes of patchouli, vetiver, musk, sandalwood and cedar that lingers on the skin for hours. Visceral and hauntingly beautiful in its portrayal of the eclipse, Buio is an undisputed masterpiece and a worthy addition to Meo's opulent tapestry of scents. The darkness of this fragrance is not the Gothic darkness of Varanasi, Last Season and Viole Nere, it is a much more existentialistic, nihilistic, and traumatic experience with an almost oppressive opening that somehow manages to intice us to delve deeper. Additionally, it's a rather accurate portrayal of the zeitgeist of the here and now, reflecting on the many fears and anxieties of the postmodern world, particularly that of the looming shadow of a global nuclear war and the rise of autocratic regimes. Not an easy perfume to wear, even for a lover of dark scents. In fact, this is one of the darkest fragrances I have ever tried. Ti ringrazio perché hai separato il tempo per me, caro Meo. Below the.scent.files described this as a flower shop on fire and that is the perfect description. I a fairly new to niche brands but this fragrance is incredibly dark, ashy (not smokey) and floral. I have never smelled something like this. It is reminiscent of taking a iron drum filing it with wood and lighting it on fire. Once the wood is burned and becomes embers takes flowers and place them on the embers. I absolutely love this smell. You don't wear this for others, you were this to show confidence and to stand out. You will get noticed because this is so different. It is very primal is the best way possible. I need a bottle of this for the late fall and winter months.

The scent is hard to compare to any other scent. The main notes that resonate here are the dark and smoky notes of juniper oil and the spicy notes of vetiver and patchouli. Since juniper, it goes well with the incense notes, of which there are quite a lot here, so the whole thing is of course quite smoky. If I had to describe what this scent reminds me of, it would probably be a walk in a thick leather jacket through an autumn, dark forest. I also caught myself that the scent reminded me of some wooden cottage with an old wooden chest of drawers full of dusty old books in thick leather covers. Projection and durability very good.

A superb perfume as only Giuseppe knows how to make! Basically, I consider Buio a much more polished and nuanced version of the monstrous T-Rex! It gives the same sensation, the same structure, but the difference is the finesse and the raw material that Giuseppe works with! A smoky par excellence, a thousand-year-old forest with traces of wild animals, a newly dug earth, freshly dug with leaves! A stump of wood still smoking after a devastating lightning strike! This is Buio!

Wow. Where to begin.. in my honest opinion, this has got to be one of the most complex perfumes from Meo’s line of offerings. Very well chosen name as it is as expected dark, deep and imaginative. With some facets that remind me of Notturno’s inkiness but so very well blended with other notes, It pulls from all my favourite note profiles: woody, aromatic and spicy. I can totally understand why this is Meo’s most personal offering yet. 2 little words for ya: experience it!

Spicy, woody, boozy, smoky perfection. I absolutely love this beautiful fragrance. It is potent and long lasting but not annoyingly either. I usually like sweet gourmand vanillas but smoky spicy orientals also appeal to me in contrast. I would wear this at night, in colder weather. I think it is quite sophisticated and unique -- nothing else like it in my large and always expanding collection.

Wow wow wow ! Intense , dark , deep. Oh wow ! i can't stop smelling this amazing piece. The title is just absolutely perfect. My stomach was engaged and ready to follow a mysterious dark knight on a black horse into the woods. Unique, still wearable, elegant and polished, smoky dark woods are mysterious. Love this. It's intense and you must know how to rock this ! 10/10

Very complex. Courtesy of the name, it's extremely dark in the opening, I get loads of cade oil and carrot seeds. As it dries down it becomes smoother with more floral notes, transitioning into a realistic leather scent along with dusty patchouli and vetiver. Personally love the perfume itself, it's sophisticated and unlike anything I've ever smelled. 9/10.

It’s bizarre how nostalgic it feels. It brings to mind the exorcist priest who was my father’s friend when I was a child. The smell of church, cassock, and cigarette smoke. Fits perfectly with a long coat on a cold winter evening.

A strong dark smokey incense for the first few hours then your left with a beautiful light floral amber leather. Very complex and long lasting. I'm nowhere eloquent enough to capture this fragrance in words. It's beautiful.

So comfortable to wear, as memento mori for me, as you see the chaos of the world, just a sniff that reminds me that everything will end one day. And maybe start again..

Incredibly rich, dusty incense is what I get from the wearing experience. Not a church incense, far woodier and undeniably dark. Meo does not miss!

master of woods is at it again! what a perfect cacophony of complex layers and upon layers with dry confidence that needs no sweetness.

one of the best fragrance i discover in 2026 .. the best.. nothing like lita or Trex.. it its own creation very unique.. 10/10

Opens cade forward with a frankincense bias, with the carrot seeds being notably less prominent, but then transitions to a labdanum forward accord, married artfully with geranium, which isn’t particularly standoffish, but it’s more of an “ambery-floral” faint assist profile that doesn’t make this come off as feminine leaning. Overall it’s quite dark, a bit smoky due to the vetiver and woodsy supports, and the patchouli and abstract leather make this whole profile a bit quaint, but it’s really IMO a much more refined version of Tyrannosaurus Rex by Zoologist, which I can really appreciate, as TRex really just smelled like you hoarded table spices in your kitchen cabinet. Though, for my personal taste I’d rather have some sort of leather that is more tangibly defined, like something that you can find in Morning Chess, Leatherize, Dark Leather (Molton)—any leather here wasn’t something I can particularly associate with or recognize, but nonetheless something I wished TRex was instead. A really well done frag, but not quite FBW for me.

Derivative yet Meo's best - but In Extremis still wins. Compared to other frags with this DNA (e.g. Tyrannosaur Rex, Pyroclasm), it is the better choice in terms of blending and wearability. Must try, if you like smoky florals.

Indubbiamente buono ma ...non so, c'è qualcosa che non capisco e che mi disturba. Probabilmente devo indossarlo più spesso per studiarlo a fondo.

A heavy leather and woods. Little twisted on the top with some flowers and spices on a tricky way. Patchouli on a chocolate side at the back. Heavier than Cuoium by Orto Parisi but similar direction. Niche and not a blind buy.

I can smell most of the notes that are advertised, but the result is still bitter smoke, musty staleness and a metallic aftertaste - a pretty awful combination, at least to my nose. I can easily imagine the perfumer himself wearing this scent - thanks to Fragrantica for the portrait. But I have a hard time imagining a "gourmet" who would be willing to smell like this at work or with friends, and not in a narrow bohemian circle of eccentrics.
