"The world is still the same. There's just less in it" This sentence was told by (Captain) Jack Sparrow in the third film of the famous Disney saga "Pirates of the Caribbean". I mentioned it as it also applies to the world of perfumes. Nowadays creative ideas shrink because almost everything we hear in the perfumeries or is chemical or is the copy of other fragrances. I was looking for a fragrance that could remind me of the world of pirates, a fragrance that made me go back to 1600.Not I was content with a simple creation, so I went in search of particular notes of the time. BOOM! Notturno by Meo Fusciuni is the answer. One evening I sat, in front of me: The port at sunset.Ships, albeit modern, berthed.Thinking about the past, on how the ports could be in 1600 and here I am on a ship in the service of a notorious pirate: brown eyes, yellow teeth, gunpowder patches in the face and arms. However, behind that ruthless look, there is a man hiding a woman (secretly) on his shoulders. It is night: while I clean the deck of the ship my eyes fix what is inside the captain's room or the captain himself, seated, with tears in his eyes. Warm up his hands with a candle, Goose quill in his hand, just immersed in black ink as his heart. The light rests on the yellow parchment, eroded by time, poor. Next to the sheet, the inevitable bottle of Rum, from which, the captain, drinks intensely, as if to wipe away the pain he feels for his secret love. The pain is immense, can not cancel the tears. For this reason he removes a strange leather container from his pocket, who knows who stole it. He extracts a handkerchief, cleans his tears and goes back to writing. The candle, in the meantime, is consumed thus generating smoke. Only now I realize that that smoke reminds me of incense and I think the captain has had to do with the spiritual world. He looks up and ... no! he discovered me! He starts shouting! overturn his birch chair. I just have to run! I'm here again ... The port is almost invisible. The sunset is gone, the light of the night invades and pervades everything. All this is NOTTURNO.

EN I have more than 150 niche fragrances, but Notturno is the only one that I always take with me in all my world travels, It's not only because the fragrance (mysterious and gorgeous), but also because Meo Fusciuni has created for his first edition of Notturno the most beautiful and most personalized bottle of all niche fragrances that I own. The second edition, unfortunately's got the really pharmacy bottle. What could I say about... I'm sorry for Meo.

IT. EN. That what initialy looked like a Japanese name, was an Italian one (the real name of designer is Giuseppe Imprezzabile). Scent that leaves you puzzled by an initial hint of rum and then stays with you for a strong woody fragrance.

A poet warrior sitting in a dimly lit room . The air breezy with the smell of ink and Rum.

I really wanted to love Notturno. Ink, rum, incense, leather, birch, incense? Sounds fantastic! But alas, it didn't live up to my (admittedly too-high) expectations. The ink is very prominent. The rum is also heavily detectable and adds a dark, slightly spicy sweetness that is unique. The opening has some slight flashes of leather and there is some soft smokiness going on beneath all the gloopy ink/rum that I would probably attest to the birch or incense. Its strikingly unique for about the first 10 minutes before receding into rough waters. Past the 10 minute mark it kind of smells as if some "struggling artist"-type had too many shots of captain morgan and decided to drink some computer toner in a botched suicide attempt..following a heavy bout of vomiting, he passed out...alas he awoke the next morning in a puddle of rum, ink and softly acidic stomach bile. Ok, ok...the mild acidity is a bit of a turn off but its definitely not as bad as I just made it sound. If Notturno took a few different turns in it's life, it would have really appealed to me. Maybe if it veered into darker, more interesting territory in the drydown instead of thinning out and getting tangy. Performance is underwhelming and the bottle (is that times new roman?...) looks veerryy cheap. I see the appeal here but im not too impressed. 5.5/10

"Notturno" is one of the most unique perfumes I've tried in a while. The ink/rum combo makes this so dark, gothic and almost scary, that it's hard to resist. The quality of the scent is remarkable and even though it's almost borderline repulsive I wasn't able to keep my nose off my wrist. The heart introduces incense and musk, the incense adds even more of the dark gothic feeling, but musk adds a balancing and creepy sweetness to the whole composition. The drydown is musky with faint reminders of "Notturno" darker self. I found "Notturno" to be on the more masculine side, I don't really see a female wearing this. Silage was mediocre and unlike for others longevity for me was decant - some 6 hours. Not the most wearable scent, but worth to hunt down a sample just for the olfactory experience.

the second perfume by Meo I try. I think the inoffensive character is this house’s signature. ink and leather accords are not loud here. I think I could spray a whole sample on myself and it still won’t be choking. it’s actually a good sign as I’m a bit tired of perfumes that wear me vs. I wear them. the opening with pineapple is captivating and I only wish it would last longer.

  • em inglês

This smells like walking through an antique store looking for treasure, unfortunately does not last very long at all :(

  • em inglês

Rum blast quickly gone. Then ink with carnation tuned by remaining ingredients. Weak performance. Nothing special in my opinion.

  • em inglês

Nice compositions but longevity and sillage are poor...

It opens with a rum flavor for sweets, ("pane degli angeli" ;¬) then I get all the notes listed in a moldy and sweetish powdery mixture with tones of licorice and black cherries in syrup. In this it reminded me of Agonist's Black Amber ... Smoky, charred, with hints of medicinal skin and with prominent birch and ink, dried in the bottom with a clean, antiquated moss. Strange, sharp, sometimes obscure that goes straight to the point but gets lost in character as it evolves. I see it well in the male, in large humid environments, cold temperatures, fireplaces that have just been extinguished, burnt paper and candles all around. Lonely, expectant and thoughtful.

  • em inglês

Very boozy and fermented, syrupy and sweet. It has a slightly stale sour wine feel which I don't particularly like

  • em inglês

I'm testing this blind from the ScentXplore bag, not looking at the name or notes till later. In the opening I get an initial alcoholic sweet gin and juniper but something far more familiar lurking, Is it cherry? Lychee? It's driving me a little crazy. From a distance I get an adult kool-aid vibe. But after the opening it becomes more subtle, more musky and more citrus-like, maybe a little lime. This could all be a figment of my imagination, and I'm ok with this. Within an hour it lost most of its intriguing parts and settled down to a light musky and floral-fruity generic scent. Even though I don't know who it is at this point it was still disappointing as it essentially lost most of its presence within two hours and three hours later, I just get the tiniest hint of something fruity. Looking at the notes now, I'm thoroughly raising my eyebrows. Testing this blind I get no sensation of ink at all, nor leather, or incense. Maybe rum, but it would have to be extremely weak and sweet. I get more candy carnations, but even that is a stretch. Reading other comments, fearing this sample isn't what it says it is, a boozy sweet crappy wine is probably the closest to my experience. But the biggest issue is after just a few hours there is nothing there, there.

🕯️ Officer Kowalski 📋 Year 1946. The war is over, but my work is only just beginning. I am an officer of the Security Service, living on the third floor of a pre-war tenement - high ceilings, stucco, beautiful parquet floors. My wife thinks I work in an ordinary office, but the truth is different. In the evenings, at a small desk in my study, I write reports. I do everything by hand, with a fountain pen - the typewriter clatters too loudly, and I don’t want to draw the neighbors’ attention. Ink spreads across the forms - that smell I know by heart: black, metallic, a little sour. The pen scratches across the paper, each letter a fragment of my secret work. I keep rum in my desk drawer, in a small bottle without a label. My wife would be surprised (or maybe she already knows everything and pretends not to). I pour a sip into my tea “for courage” - the sharp, sweetish aroma mingles with the smell of leather folders. Those folders remember sweat and fear - they are my tools of trade. In a small bowl on the desk, I keep cloves, their sharp scent keeping me awake. Birchwood crackles in the stove, the only source of warmth on cold evenings. And yet, despite everything, I find something warm in this apartment. In the wardrobe, musk lingers - a scent I’ve carried with me forever, warm like an old quilt. And when I sit at my desk and open my grandmother’s amber jewelry box, its sweet fragrance reminds me of times when, instead of breaking people, I broke nothing more than a crust of bread at my grandparents’ table. Notturno is my scent: as dark as my work, yet as warm as the memories from before the war. @the.scent.files

Notturno, by Meo Fusciuni, is a fragrance that is meant to evoke the poetry and the imaginary rooms of night. It is soft, so soft, which is interesting for a leather-forward fragrance because, unlike most, there’s nothing acrid or smoky or tannic about it. This is leather worn close to the skin and worn down over years, padding up and down hardwood stairs in the hours of darkness, tufted with fur and spiked with little claws. Springing silently into bed with you at midnight, kneading a small spot in the midst of faded flannel quilts and snoozing in the crook of your knees. You know these are dreams and ghosts and wisps of memory; your dear inky-furred friend died twelve years ago on a June afternoon and is buried under a lightning-struck oak in New Jersey. A phone on the creaky cedar nightstand illuminates the hour; she often visits at this time. These are warm, blanket-soft moments, a sweet slip in time or space, or sleep when everything is safe and good and exactly as it should be.

The most overrated place to be per square feet is within sniffing distance of Notturno. I'm sitting here trying to figure out what's more frustrating: Wearing this or training a new puppy. This fragrance has one of the most intriguing note/accord lineups you can find in niche perfumery. Too bad the act doesn't match the venue(see Dallas Cowboys). What is Notturno? Is it a Bic ink pen with rum disguised as a fragrance? Not necessarily. There's no need for a note breakdown or an educated nose to highlight this process. This is a dead ringer for sweet loose leaf paper; that's it and that's all. This has the ABSOLUTE worst projection/sillage that I've ever experienced. Potential definitely down the drain. The entire house seems to purposely make their fragrances with low sillage and projection. They also seem to purposely charge egregious prices as well. A fragrance for people that are not fond of fragrances.

I really don't know how to define this (and any other of the meo fusciuni perfumes that I own or owned, 3 nota di viaggio, buio and recently isola), as "missed-opportunity-signatures". With the exception of Isola, my least favorite from Meo, each single one has the most disappointing and weak sillage and projection. This was somehow acceptable when you could have buy these bottles for 80 euros until few years ago, however nowadays with these bottles going for 220 (with a really unexplainable surcharge within a decade of almost 200%) , I will simply stop restocking these, hoping that this brand reformulates for the better (you only need to work on the performance), and we will all happily keep buying your perfumes (read the reviews under each of your fragrances, almost everyone seems to notice the poor performance).

wow... the first thing came on my mind when i smelled this masterpiece. a night time at the attic in year 1600+, writing poems on a wooden chair & table, with a semi-white costumed papers, an ink pot, a feather & a lighted candle on aside, then the ink splattered upon those semi-white papers once the cooling breeze broke into the attic's window carrying the smell of the dark rhymed blueberries from the public garden. that scene was in that bottle. This perfume is the atmosphere of Siouxsie & the Banshees face to face song. i can't believe how perfect this smell is, perfectly blended, and amazingly packaged. maybe because this is what i was searching for. although it doesn't last long, but it is the love i've been searching for my whole life.

All his perfumes smell like old fashioned soap bar from corner shop or chemists Cheap soap bar even ( not soap bar from luxury hotel) All I can smell is patchuli, lavender and some dry pout - puri. I mean... - all of his perfumes... Im trying hard understand concept and " artism" in his creations, unfortunately, I don't see it. As mutch I think Italian perfumery Is best,( Santa Maria Novella, Lorenzo Viloressi) this one is disappointing. And price... Makes me laugh . Many his perfumes in pyramide mention incense (Notturno, Oblio). Im asking : where is incense?

  • em inglês

This is lousy. The perfumer is using the notorious rum ether — a distinctive, immediately recognizable raw material that’s rich and boozy but dissipates in (I’m not kidding) 30 seconds. For as lovely as that material smells, it’s worthless in perfume and is clearly intended for use in flavoring. Anyhow, once Notturno's rum has burned off, you’re left with a ghastly charred caramel that’s slammed against something licorice-like to produce “ink.” It is inky (think glossy magazine smell), but it’s the olfactory equivalent of a thousand paper cuts.

  • em inglês

Very gloomy, extremely warm, dirty sweetish (Rum and spices), inked. Impossible thinking to wear it in the day. This is a parfume for a quiet wander into the night afar by noise. A parfume almost by meditation. Personally, I consider "Luce" a perfume exclusively for woman, I can't imagine "Notturno" on a... maiden. If you are inclined at the idea to be a "thoughtful wanderer", probably you'll love it. The bottle is the most beautiful I've ever seen.

first impressions: rum, pineapple, leather, woods... a pirate. I'm sure real historical pirates didn't smell this good, but yes it does make think of AC: Black Flag, Pirates of the Caribbean, etc. My personal associations aside, I'm most curious about the pineapple; it's almost caramelized by the other notes. The rest of the composition, however: leather, woods, incense, and so on, are like a nice black blazer: classic, sharp, and.. unremarkable.

It’s got quite hot here this afternoon and the scent has got deeper as I’ve got warmer. It’s radiating off me right now, yet when first sprayed it wasn’t as powerful. I have become more and more addicted to this, the rum was really strong in the first spray. But hours on I’m picking up on the rum again. Just faintly but wow this is so intoxicating and beautifully dark. Totally in love already.

Aptly named! The blend of scent of black ink, leather, the spike of rum, and the fume of incense that highlights the darkness, creates a truly gothic and nocturnal aura. Absolutely niche quality, highly intriguing, and unique, but could be in my shopping list if it had longer tenacity. I wonder why nobody mentioned the olibanum 🤔 It's pretty there.

  • em inglês

it has a strong anomalic note from the first spray which comes and goes on the dry-down, otherwise a powdery dark floral. Sadly animalic scents dont work for me because all i can smell every time is a musty weasel nest, but if you dont have this problem with animalic scents I think it would fit lovely on a goth person

Boozy inky mysterious fragrance. Performance is moderate. Lasts longer than it does radiate. Has a heavenly drydown with the opening being a bit rough with glue like inky note. Wait for the drydown and prepare to be swooned!

  • em inglês

This has a strange opening with the scent of ink (somewhat like Encre Noire) and wine combined. The drydown smells weird like honey and glue together with leather. Longevity isn't that great. Overall not impressed. 3/5

This perfume smells on ink, but not oily think ink, but spicy one with a tart note inside.
