This is a very good release from Mercedes, regardless of what age group it's best suited for (though I agree with the reviewer below that it's probably best for the 30 and up crowd). The cypress accord is rich and spicy, and it rests nicely over the smooth, rounded woody base. Private reminds me a lot of Oud Malaki, another underrated little gem from Chopard. Overall, this is a spicy woody fragrance with a dark amber hue running through it creating a fragrance that is sophisticated, and somewhat mature and serious. It's definitely more of a business fragrance or personal scent than anything to wear to a club or on a date, especially if you're young. Still, I have to hand it to Mercedes, they didn't miss a step here. The whole composition has good, quality notes, and rather than release another men's sweet woody amber like every other company's doing nowadays, Mercedes took it in a more traditional, classic direction and added something to the industry that's more needed these days--an elegant men's fragrance that doesn't pander to the mass market with cliched trends. They should be commended for that. I get good performance from Mercedes Benz Man Private. Final rating: 8/10, maybe 8.5 considering the bargain prices that it goes for. Side note: Ambroxan is listed as a central component to the composition, but I don't really pick up on it that much. Either it's been camouflaged really well, or I just don't understand the note, because I would have never guessed that it's here.

Digging this... A masculine woody, ambery scent with hints of some underlying spicy sweetness. Very solid modern masculine - The touches of Ambroxan and Labdanum give it a leathery smoothness that I really enjoy. The Cardamom in the opening is reminiscent of the Cardamom accord in Mercedes-Benz Select Night (if you have that or experienced it in the past). Private obviously goes in a different direction, but the Cardamom is very similar. More dry earthy spicy as opposed to herbaceous sweetness. Some sweet accords do exist, but this is not a YSL LNDL type Cardamom. This is a fragrance that while not specifically listing Tobacco as a note, will give you the feel of a scent that contains a Tobacco note. As the "this perfume reminds me of" section indicates - If you enjoy fragrances like Bentley for Men/Men Intense, Bvlgari MiB, many Leather based fragrances, masculine Amber fragrances and fragrances such as Pasha de Cartier Parfum, Nasomatto Pardon and even something along the lines of Nasomatto Baraonda... You may very well enjoy Mercedes-Benz Man Private. For the price - This is a very solid pick up.

A green and spicy opening is quickly joined by sweet, resinous notes. This pleasing start leads to a warm amber, with the spices continuing but the greenery giving way to grounding woods. The dry down is warm, resinous and woody, bringing to mind freshly lit pipe tobacco. I do not detect any leather notes/accord here. There is a slight synthetic feel to the overall smell, but not unpleasant by any means. Very smooth from start to finish - does not challenge the nose at all - definitely an good all-rounder for most occasions in colder weather. This EdP performs rather well, and a couple of sprays easily surround me in a bubble of softly warm spices. If generously applied, no touch ups are necessary for many hours. Given the affordable pricing and this being a car manufacturer perfume, the Private scent is unexpectedly elegant and accomplished. One of the very best budget scents I've experienced.

Warm woody tobacco spices and cedar, ochre/brown with a lavender absolute (more sweet and creamy than lavender oil) note woven throughout. Hints of honey, too. A wonderful smell that is slightly hampered by quality of ingredients - it smells great but feels a bit flat and 2 dimensional. Similar scents are Oud Malaki, while a bit more "3 dimensional" it has its own drawback of a harsh metallic note throughout (something like scratchy sandalwood mixed with scratchy incense). I prefer MB Private for sure. 1 Million Golden Oud is also similar but much more 3 dimensional and feels higher quality overall. Though, while having a similar woody, spicy tobacco profile, that fragrance is a fair bit more leathery. I think Golden Oud is the objectively better scent but MB Private is easier to wear - it's less demanding and more comforting.

Guys, Mercedes Benz Man Private is a true gem! This scent is mature, daring, masculine, different! Woody, smoky, dark-green... Pure class! What I love about it - it got own character and this scent is not for everybody, it's not mass appealing fresh or semi-sweet everyday scent. Private is for a man with manly taste of perfumes. To me, it is better than Gucci Guilty Absolute and Lalique Encre Noire A L`Extreme, because it is more refined and wearable, but still dark and masculine. Bold and brave move from Mercedes and Olivier Cresp. We all know what Mercedes(Olivier Cresp) did with Mercedes-Benz Cologne 2016 - stunning fresh beauty! Imagine Private got the same high quality of the blend, but in the dark and mature genre! Highly recommended! Bravo Mercedes!

Ignore the pups... They still have much to learn. If you enjoy spicy, woody, warm fragrances with a hint of something herbaceous... This is an excellent choice. Also... you can get this for $30 +/- 100ml... Is it overly complicated? No... fairly straightforward profile. But it works. If you don’t enjoy this style of fragrance... your nose hasn’t matured all that much yet... Just don’t wear it. No need for the hyperbole.. This is part of the reason why I’ve stepped away from the community... and collecting in general. It’s just not that serious and my collection is what it is at this point... in fact, I’d like to downsize it. Anyway... solid stuff. Just make sure you like dry, woody, spicy scents

For the price this is a steal ! The fragrance has a spicy woody crisp opening, then it starts to give you that boozy feeling with less sweetness that the other boozy fragrances. tobacco is not mentionned as a note but i can definetly pick on it as a note, certaily due to the combination of Labdanum Patchouli and Cedar. This fragrance is like the mature version of Bvlgari Man in Black, and share some similarities with Halfeti, Rasasi Sotoor WaW and Chopard oud Malaki. I Totally enjoy this scent whenever i spray it on ! it's manly and versatile, i can rock this to office without any problem ! For 30€ you can't go wrong !

I have this. Bought a tester bottle (comes without the cap so that's not great) , costed me much lesser than the retail price and I must say it's worth every penny. Sweet old school formal and masculine scent , don't buy if you're into more youthful modern scents , this one is not as old school as a polo green or aramis but at the same time not an ambroxan bomb like a sauvage either. It's the best of both worlds , good for office going gentlemen in their 30s, 40s and above. Great for slightly cooler weather!

I bought this fragrance because of the high rating. After applying I noticed some amber, but it was all very subtle. I didn't think it was very special. But hours and hours later, I could still smell it and somehow I got a whiff of citrus (orange fruit). I didn't get it, as I knew no citrus was listed. Maybe the labdanum is the one to make me think there is a very subtle citrus note. And you know what? I keep on sniffing it and I love it!

smells like a richer version of the dry down of drakkar noir, and a bit more mature. like a rich older gentleman. the smell is extremely comforting for me. i work at a perfume shop and every time i spray this for a customer i feel my muscles relax just a little. my boss gave me it as a gift and i used it as a room spray mostly, as i already have a signature scent, but it made for the best room spray imaginable.

I can’t believe I found a cheap everyday version of halfeti. It has the same back bone with most of the notes and that cypress cedar combo that keeps pulling my nose back. Does it last as long as halfeti.. almost. Is it as rich and full of character.. not quite. For the cost being 1/10th I would smash this and keep halfeti for special occasions. Absolutely worth every cent. 10/10 fragrance for the cost.

#472 in my "Tour de Fragrance" This is like a sharper, rum-free version of Bentley For Men Intense, which I love except for the rum note. Way ahead of Terre D' Hermes, Encre Noir, and fresher than Bentley Absolute. Can't go wrong with this one. Versatile, safe wear in any context, and inexpensive. Hate the ugly brown bottle. Love the scent and the price. I'm ordering backups!.

A mixture between Club Black (vanilla and plum), cola and, to the less extent, classic barber fresh. Smart casual to formal.

A subtle Bentley for Men Intense and Costume National Homme, this is a keeper for anyone's perfume shelf.

Totally agree with msajoy below, in that this does remind me most of that seasoned tobacco and leathery main accord in Bvlgari Man in Black. I will also add that I get some of that sharp cedar from the likes of Montana Graphite or Bentley Absolute. But at the very opening, I also get shades of another Olivier Cresp MBZ creation, Infinite Spicy. Sadly, the spicy hit is very fleeting, leaving cedar, leather and tobacco in the clear lead. Any other notes are really just there to soften the edges a bit. To visualize the scent, this is what sitting in an old leather chair in a log cabin, with an unlit pipe full of rich tobacco might smell like. As others have pointed out, MBZ Private is a more mature man's scent, and to my taste, more suited for dressed up, serious occasions in cooler climes. Though the quality is quite evident, this is not what I'd consider to be a crowd pleaser. A touch of vanilla and elevating the lavender a bit might have made this almost perfect, but it's still pretty good as it is. Not a love, but a like for me. EDIT: On further reflection and review, I think what I'm getting out of this is mostly cashmere wood (cashmeran?), cedar and cardamom. I love cardamom and generally also enjoy cedar to an extend, but cashmeran just smells kind of cheap to me. It's that same note that is abused almost to the ruin of Azzaro Hot Pepper, where it overwhelms everything else. It's not quite that heavy handed here, but I think that's the part that just doesn't work for me. In spite of that, I still kind of like this stuff once that note fades. Layering MBZ Private definitely is a possibility. I've layered it under a spray of Woodcut (pure, fresh cut lumber) and topped with a spray of MBZ Club Black (vanilla/benzoin) to round out the woody edges a bit. Combined, they are pure woody bliss! Projection: Moderate Sillage: Moderate to Heavy Longevity: Long (8+ hours)

I don't have a bottle of this but I tested it out in a store on a tester strip. I've been wanting to test it for a while and I read some reviews that said it was an old school style, I stayed away. However, last week after testing it I really enjoyed it. I get that it gives off a more mature vibe but I actually think it's very nice. It starts off very mature but after a few hours on the strip it became very powdery to me at least (which I really liked a lot). The most surprising part to this fragrance is that I still have the strip from around 1 week ago and I could still smell the amazing powdery scent on the test strip. Wow just wow, I didn't try on skin but the fact that it has lasted that long on paper must mean that it has amazing longevity. I got a family member to test the paper they didn't love it stating that it did smell to mature, but after giving the test strip to them today, one week later they said it was nice. But would not be happy to wait so long until the fragrance became more pleasant to them. Personally I really liked it, thinking of purchasing a bottle, might have to go back to the store to test out again. (for context - I am in my mid-30's)

Imagine L'Occitane EdB without the sweet vanilla and tonka. That's what you get from this. The opening is really middle eastern style, it reminds me a bit of Serge Lutens Arabie. I then immediately smell some clove, dried fruits, blackpepper (I'm not quite sure, maybe it's supposed to be ambroxan), on the background; the foreground was dominated by cypress and the spicyness of cardamom. The drydown is more westernized, with just a hint of cardamom, an earthy patchouli, and a really noticeable cashmere wood. Scent wise, this is really creative and interesting, but sadly my SO won't like it on me (this is the case with many middle eastern fragrance). Performance is great. Versatility not so good. It's a solid fragrance, I like it.

If you were, or are, looking for a fragrance for your father or someone older, this is perfect. Right off the bat, you will notice that this isn't a kid's fragrance. This is for the mature man, at minimum 50 years old. For the business man who drives the Benz honestly. The spiciness, cypress, etc. work so well together. This is not for casual wear either. This exudes business. The ad I see for this fragrance, absolutely does not fit the guy in my opinion. This fragrance fits more of a Don Draper / Gordon Gekko type, hands down.

The person who said this is "unisex to female" must have the wrong fragrance because this is most definitely a masculine scent. Woody, warm and spicy is the name of this game. Has a bit of a leathery vibe too, probably from the labdanum. I don't get particularly great performance out of this one, but it's not awful. A great pick up for the cool weather at a great price. I really like this one as well as MB Man Grey.

Tried from a sample and like it enough to put on the "to buy" list, More mature tobacco notes in this one than a playful vanilla bomb as was Mercedes Club Black. Blind buy worthy for the price if you like woodsy/tobacco scents. P.S: @gerry.madoni - Your obvious bullsh*t review at the beginning of this page before this fragrance was even released just adds weight to why people lose faith in Fragrantica ratings.

100% not unisex (had to point due to other review) and very masculine. I like the scent, smells very grown up, rich and of quality ingredients. For me, this one falls a bit in the "when would I wear this" category, but it's nice. Seems like a distant cousin to Bentley for men intense, I much prefer this Merc over that for sure.

I bought it from a mall kiosk back in 2020 and have worn it occasionally. You're not getting anything crazy, but it is essentially a glorified car air freshener, like another user pointed out. Cheap smell that has horrible projection and a flat scent profile in general. Despite that, I can't say I hate or dislike this fragrance, I suppose that it could be much worse.

Very beautiful pleasant opening but the dry down not for me!.. little bit dark.. I smell Synthetic amber in bad quality make me little bit headache!.. it's long lasting on my skin but moderate sillage.. unfortunately this fragrance not for me!..

I blind bought a 100ml after all the glaring reviews. I have to say, definitely not for me, as a 30 year old male. I've read that it's what James Bond would wear if he was driving his Aston Martin. Unfortunately, it smells like a much older scent, and I'd have to imagine James Bond being 70+ wearing this. The scent is very masculine and high quality. It lasted an entire day on me, with the oriental and incense notes still lingering. But as I've said, it's definitely not for someone of my age group. Beware, if you are planning on a blind-buy!

I found nothing to be special about this fragrance. It is has a very eminent patchouli note, which describes the dry down. However when mixed with the woody notes, it showcases it as a very "mature" scent, not elegant mind you. I do not know why reviewers compare this to Polo supreme leather, because this has no sweet notes, neither a leather note. Performance for me is moderate at 5 hours, maybe i got a bad piece? Don't know how its possible if it came out in 2018.

If you like to smell like you just spilled a bottle of Bourbon on you, then this is the cologne for you! Besides that it smells like one of those colognes from the 80s that men in their 60s or 70s would wear. I made the mistake of blind buying this. So... I was fooled by the positive reviews for this..."something" pretending to be a fragrance. NO NO NO this is NOT a fragrance this is a car air freshener. I have a car air freshener and I can swear to all known gods that it smells not 100 but 100000000 % exactly the same as this parody of a fragrance. I don't know what kind of noses all those who praise this thing and think it smells good on a person have, but this is not for people but for cars !! Disgusting, cheap, chemical thing that some people think is a fragrance. Run away from this like the devil from incense and don't even think about buying it. You have been warned.

Insanely strong peppery smell (even though there is no pepper note), which settles into wood after 1-2 hours. Do not recommend.

It feels like a heavy patchouli, almost gel like and unpleasant. This one leans more toward being woody, with a more realistic wood note. Not the typical perfumery wood that smells dark and creamy, but something closer to semi realistic wood. I expect the dominant notes to be wood with a small touch of cardamom. As a Fragrance from a car brand, this is a worthy attempt. Nice woody and spicy smell, and quite masculine too. But in terms of sillage and projection it is quite weak. Would easily pass on this if I hadn't blind bought it. Not saying it is bad but just nothing special. I'm quite happy to keep in my collection though. If this was an intense version, then maybe I'd rave a bit more about it as the scent in itself is not bad at all. Anyways, complementing my love for Mercedes Cars with owning one of their fragrances isn't a bad idea. overall 6.5/10

For whatever reason I'm getting a weird boozy leather vibe in the opening. Its very mature, like alot of the comments say; for the older folks, classy gents. The dry down is way better than the opening. Don't over spray, performance and longevity is solid. Hard to find a time and a place for this guy here. I don't think it's that versatile.

This spicy-woody fragrance is a great alternative to Costume National Homme, or Rasasi Sotoor Waaw. It shares their spice rack warmth, and I'm surprised that cinnamon is not listed as a note. It's quite linear and simple, but if you want that spicy, warm, woody amber glow, to keep you warm in winter, this is perfect.

What a splendid fragrance and could quite possibly be the best in the whole MB collection. I can only say the initial blast is certainly one of the best there is for fragrance enthusiasts both new and seasoned. Surely a signature scent for many it is clear to see and truly a modern classic in the making.

This opens up very animalic, which fortunately dissipates very quickly, it definitely has oud and leather with incense. The dry down is woody and ambery and slightly sweet. It reminds me of a mix of chopard oud malaki and dunhill icon absolute. Nice scent overall 👌

Great masciline scent. Lovely spicey, peppery, woody and smokey tones. Just the right amount of sweetness. Ignore the haters, they just think they're clever using ridicilous analogies.
