Starlight Shimmer

Based on the notes alone, I would NEVER expect this to smell the way it does. I was out with my boyfriend's sister, sampling perfumes in Priceline, and initially overlooked the bottles in this line for their gaudy, but girly appearance (never do this, kids. That was my first bad decision). However, when I was talking to the sales associate that I wanted to sample Marc Jacobs' Decadence, she said, "If you think that's your vibe, DEFINITELY try Starlight Shimmer. It's amazing." This was her suggestion, as she herself liked the same sort of perfumes I did, and she adored this. Oh. My. Heavens. The second it was on my skin, I new I had smelled it before. But that also meant, I knew I needed to have it. This smells almost identical to Valentino Donna Noir Absolu, which was a purchase I had planned on making prior to this perfume. I loved the leathery, musky, boozy feel that perfume had. And when I sprayed this on, I got almost exactly the same scent. It was just denser, and thicker, and richer, which I was so down for. The oddest part about these two perfumes is that VDNA only shares a single note with this perfume: rose. And I can not smell it in either of those fragrances. If I had to choose between VDNA and this perfume, I'd pick this one. Not only for the fact that it smells like an amped up version of VDNA, but it can be found significantly cheaper as well. Priceline has fragrance sales regularly, and you can get this at a huge discount you can't get VDNA on. I'd recommend this to people who really, really like heavy orientals. The title of "Starlight Shimmer", is a lot sweeter, innocent and sparkly than the perfume itself, which better matches the dark nature of black bottle itself.

I have to say this is such a beautiful scent! Have been wanting to try perfumes from MK shimmer line for a couple years now, but often the prices a bit more than I’m willing to spend for blind buys (over $50). I lucked up in finding a 3.4oz bottle on Poshmark for about $23, and totally worth every penny. Initial spray is reminiscent to something in my middle-eastern fragrances. I’m suspecting it’s the combination of rose and saffron, which are often used accords. The amber gives this is warm and cozy vibe, but it’s not dense to point that I would say this is exclusively a nighttime fragrance. Did a blind buy of Mason Alhambra Baroque Satin Oud, and I won’t go as far as to say it’s a dupe, but it’s giving me very similar vibes on the dry down. For $20 if you’re looking for a substitute, I would try Baroque Satin Oud.

This is a gorgeous rose/saffron/oud scent that is very comfortable for a person new to this combo of notes. If you've ever smelled any of the Ro's Argan products from lush (my fav), I was shocked to realize this perfume is a stronger and more sophisticated version of that scent. I also own Twilight shimmer and I think the oud in that one is more pronounced than in Starlight shimmer. In Starlight I find the rose to be the most prominent note. I cannot comment on longevity as I've not had the opportunity to wear this one out in the world yet. This one is a perfect night time scent and has a strong projection. I think you might be able to get away with this during the day in the winter as well if you spray more lightly.

I think the names don't match with the bottle design! I always remember this being Midnight Shimmer, because it's black. I like the bottle and love the scent. As a person who loves fresh scents, I crave sometimes something warmer and darker. I thought first buying Black Opium or it's flanker, but BO is a bit linear and too sweet for my taste after all. Starlight Shimmer is exactly what I was looking for. I had tested the 3 Shimmers some time ago, and had hard time remembering which one I loved. It was Starlight with it's beautiful rose-saffron-amber notes, and I do smell oud in it. I might even get some stronger oud-perfumes in the future, but now I really enjoy Starlight Shimmer.

It’s so weird that there are almost no information or reviews about this parfum so far. Like I’m really surprised why no body mentions or review this. I tried it the other day and the longevity was Super. I tried nothing before that lasted so long on me. To me it smells like a less/no sweet version of Dior addict, something is less girly about it but it smells really fancy and deep,not a fresh sent but smells expensive clean 😄 I already ordered mine .

Smooth entry into this scent profile, but the feminine lean is stronger. I sense Montale/Mancera vibes, Starlight just doesn't challenge near as much. My favorite Kors perfume by a wide margin, bought my wife a few bottles at a great price and it has been fantastic in cooler weather. Took a risk on 50ml of Mystique, now THAT is a challenge...much spicier to start, much sweeter to finish. Starlight is, to me, much more agreeably balanced.

I love this scent. it is almost identical to Carolina Herrera good girl ‘supreme. It is sexy, smoky and has a beautiful sillage. It is the better of the two (twilight) that I have in the Shimmer series in my opinion. The twilight is not a favorite. the starlight I think is classy and feminine. If you’re a huge floral person probably not for you.

It’s very sexy, soft yet strong, the saffron hints at a little spicy. Midnight is more musky and nice but the twilight has this caustic note, don’t know what it is that doesn’t agree with me. This one is gorgeous and I will be taking this one into the fall season, perfect. Stays long and kinda strong, not if you go light handedly. Love!

a must have!! I already own and love the other two - Midnight Shimmer and Twilight Shimmer so I def have to get my Hands on this as well. teh most beautiful bottles ever and the most beautiful scent

This may be the most beautiful thing I've ever smelled. Starlight Shimmer is delicious, slightly mysterious, projects enticingly, and overall makes me feel radiant. Absolutely in love with this.

This is a beautiful spicy sweet rose upon application, but after a few hours I'm getting a sour smell. The same thing happens when I wear Delina Exclusif, I'm assuming there is sandalwood in the note pyramid, bc that's what javanol or evernyl, another synthetic sandalwood, does to me. It's a shame bc I like it. I'm going to continue to use it, just have some alcohol wipes available. I just have a 30 ml so no biggie, but the search for the perfect sweet, spicy rose continues. I'm editing this on 5/3. I have to say I really like this. I was over spraying and causing the sour smell. I have a tendency to do that with a fragrance I really like. It doesn't take much of this fragrance bc it's strong and well blended. Two spays left a gorgeous amber/spicy/saffron, slightly sweet rose that lasted a good six hours with a little over arms length sillage. Lovely and a definite keeper. One thing, this is a second cousin to Kayali Sweet Diamond Pink Pepper. But that one has musk and gives a different dry down. Both beautiful, but not dupes by any means. I like both and enjoy them, but they aren't interchangeable, imo. But if you like SDPP, this one should be a successful blind buy.

I am not sure how this perfume does not have oud. It smells like a standard rose and oud frag with a warmth that is ostensibly amber. Perhaps the notes used to give the impression of amber are what I'm reading, and that's the burnt smokiness. Regardless of what witchcraft was used, I quite like this one. It is a toned-down rose-oud scent that wears for a long time and doesn't overwhelm. I've had this in the crook of my elbows for the last 7 hours and it is still going strong. (I was inspired by the writer below who mentioned combining SS with Addict...I'm not brave enough yet after the la fille de Berlin and Calligraphy Rose fiasco to layer them, but I was curious to see what both scents wafting off my arm would do...it does give a nice sweet and smokey vibe throughout the day.) UPDATE: this frag is the little engine that could. I've had it on almost 24 hours, and even after a shower I can still faintly smell its woodiness in the crook of my elbows.

Starlight Shimmer is like an abstract amber with melted caramel on top, vanilla and a hint of oud. The oud came across for the first hour or two as something like beer. Eventually the fermented hoppy, alcoholic, yeasty hay-like note dissipated then turned slightly spicy and earthy. I was expecting this to be a rose perfume, but the rose note is either missing or drowning in the sea of sticky amber. It is also intensely sweet, nearly gourmand, which is not what I expected. Update: After wearing this for a full day I can report that the deep dry down featured more, but not all of the notes I was expecting this to have. After 4-6 hours it gets spicier, muskier and loses the overt sweetness of the first few hours. I love the remainder of the scent it left on the sweater I was wearing.

Based from the notes in this fragrance, it is definitely not something that I would typically reach for. But I saw Starlight Shimmer on sale on the Ulta website yesterday and I have heard lots of really great reviews about the shimmer line from Michael Kors. So, I just decided to blind buy and see what it was all about. Again, based on the notes I was not expecting it to smell the way that it does. Its very boozy spicy vanilla almost oud-y, even though there is no vanilla and no oud that's what comes to my nose. It is very sweet but its also deep and rich. I'll definitely be reaching for this more in late summer for nighttime, and for the fall and winter. Its a keeper for sure.

i can smell definitely the first spray the sandalwood incense note so strong but after a few minutes this lowers its intensity although keep going sandalwood note at least that's the one I perceive the most, i can't perceive other notes just that one, the projection and sillage are moderate but i can say this fragrance is ok like a work day or a picnic afternoon with your partner or family. To finish, I think it is a very wearable fragrance due to its mysterious touch and softness at the same time.

For an inexpensive perfume from Marshalls this is very nice. Warm and sultry. My husband really likes it on me. This was a blind buy based on a review that said this smelled nearly identical to Valentino Donna Noir Absolu. I wouldn't say they're nearly identical but definitely in the same family. The Valentino is a little more complex. I can smell the boozy plum liqueur in that one and it's missing from this one. But this is a solid like and it's got great longevity.

This is not an amber fragrance. It is dominant rose, saffron and some woods. It is very pretty, a little plastic, and not anywhere near as powerful as Oud Bouquet or Shaghaf Oud. Not even really oudy. It reads more like a dry cedar to me. Not sweet. Reminds me a bit of some Lattafa frags, like a tame sister of Raghba Wood Intense. I like it and am glad I have it but a Middle Eastern fragrance it is not. Much safer for office wear. Not as out there.

This is not the rose forward scent I was hoping for. It’s not terrible but I do not like amber so this will not be something I reach for often. it is also very sweet. Longevity is great and projection is also good. Amber lovers, give it a try.

Beautiful scent. Rosy and musky. My favourite perfume profile. Very happy blind buy. Got it on EBay cheap, so that’s a bonus.

Uh, this could've been so much better. You see "Starlight", rose, saffron, & amber & you think "this is going to be a beautiful, night time oriental scent!" No, not really. This a sweet vanilic saffron scent with a hint of soft rose. The amber used here really damaged the scent. Instead of warm, incensy amber, we got woody, sweet vanilla. Sweet, woody, vanilla, saffron, & very light rose. This a gourmand fragrance, suitable better for cool nights. Good performance, though. It lived up to its reputation in that department. An "Ok" fragrance.

This is a simpler variant of the popular Oud Bouquet DNA. It lacks the finesse found in OB and it has a somewhat burned plastic edge to the sweetness. I'm not a fan of that. But, given the price, availability, and similarity, Starlight Shimmer makes a suitable stand-in for the HTF Oud Bouquet.

This smells exactly the same as Ralph Lauren Saffron. I'm at Macy's right now and just tested it. I'm amazed at the similarities. only just tested it so I have no idea about the longevity of the fragrance but the smell is the same. Beautiful.

At first stiff, I knew I really didn’t like it. 👎 Smells old, like an incense. Maybe this teaches me a lesson, to take perfume reviewers opinion with a grain of salt. Luckily, I was able to returned. 😅

I get a lot of oud in this. It smells like les sables roses but more flat and sweet smelling. I dont care for it

There's something really sharp and unpleasant for me here. Good longevity, though.

~ I'm not a fan of Michael Kors , period , I think he is overhyped , and overpriced in general , as well as several other's in his realm of fashion that will remain nameless ~ However , I did purchase about 3 years ago his " Radiant Rose Gold " which I do like a lot , it is not a love but I have only worn a few times . I decided to get two of his Shimmer Scents { Starlight & Twilight } mainly because of the notes and reviews . I'm not even sure how or why these popped up in my feed , but I'm happy they did ~ I have not received yet , but will for sure come back and do my review as I'll get them both on or before the 14th ~ Rose and Saffron are two of my favorite note combos ~ which are in several of my Oudh buys ~ I'm either going to do a " Happy Dance or Facepalm " for these two blind buys , I was able to get both for around $ 30.00 each for the 1.1 ounce bottle , free shipping ~ fast delivery ~ I'll be back ~ ///=^} ~ 8 /12 /20 ~ I received my lovely little bottle which is so cute and I waited until after my routine which is hard for me to do , Ha { of both a shower and bath } too spritz all over ~ I must say this is a real beauty , the notes so simple , yet it comes across as a higher end juice . I'm going to invest in a larger bottle for sure ~ Thank You reviewers for helping me make up my mind on this one as I did not want to do a " facepalm " ~ I'll do an update on the usual longevity and projection later on today or tomorrow ~ I'm so excited ~ ///=^} ~

The Michael Kors Shimmer collection continues to impress. So far, three for three from a brand that usually puts out similarly weak and at this point uninspired "fresh 'n floral", shiny but flimsy scents. For one, Starlight Shimmer outlasts many new scents and its longevity matches expectations for its powerful notes. In it's DNA it has the same rich warmth as Midnight (to which it's probably more similar) and a bit of the jammy zest of Twilight, but here its all about the amber. The initial rose blast brings to mind some of the Eastern inspired rose-ouds from previous years, but instead of the more obviously masculine oud, saffron is gentler and less cologne-like. To me saffron even on its own smells like a well blended, inviting, but secretly complex scent. Good addition. This is still very much a "night" scent, in line with intentions. In many ways it performs like a throwback to the big oriental scents of the Y2K era, the Addicts and Black Cashmeres. Perhaps not quite with the same bold character, but surely a relative.

[That no one has ever mentioned it before is downright relevant to me, it gives me pause, it makes me doubtful in some ways. So, starting from this basis I can only assume my chemistry is somewhat strange, I hope not misleading to you.] I noticed that as soon as Starlight Shimmer has settled, for at least 2 hours, I'm beginning to sense the opening notes, or in any case something of the whole Dior Addict old formula. Personally I have never worn it, but only occasionally tested from an old sample that maybe was also toned, how should I know.. The fact is that today I gave it a try, by layering Starlight S. with Dior Addict (2014). Well, what can I say, they dare a lot together. What a wonderful boldness. I wasn't so sure about it at first, but I was right to dare a little, cause I really dig this mix, the scent is gorgeous, and i love it. I suggest you give it a try if you love this genre, my office colleagues have approved, which says a lot.

Successful blind buy! This is the first Michael Kors I have loved. It is dark, sexy, delicious, enigmatic, and very much a wintry rose. The reviews did a good job explaining this before smelling, but it still surprised me. I definitely get the boozy aspect a few people mentioned. It is not as rosy as anticipated, but the rose is classic and red, supple and a bit powdery. I can’t get enough of the sweet amber and something slightly sour/salty? At first, it is quite unisex, even leaning more masculine, but after it settles, this vanilla amber swirl comes to the forefront, making it very feminine, but still a bit witchy. I know this is considered a generic middle eastern frag to some, but it feels different to me, maybe a bit more modern? It’s also very sweet. The woody notes in here don’t smell synthetic at all, and for the price point the quality is fantastic. One of the best performing beast mode scents I’ve tried– not one to overspray!

Love at first sniff! So far I’ve only smelled this on paper but wow! I bought it blind at Ross for $25 so I’m glad I got a winner. I will be more descriptive after I wear this tomorrow (I was into my SOTD today) and hope to add to my review then.. ok it’s tomorrow and I wore it for a while but now I don’t feel so enthusiastic- it has a strange edge. I took a bath and put on my new Alexandria2 by Xerjoff. I may give it another shot but honestly I also might Ebay it. Later- after my A2 wore off in the afternoon I put this back on and I do like it. It's nice and alluring and is similar to Midnight Shimmer which lacks the unusual note I can't place and is more of a vanilla. I also have a question: how can so many fragrances claim to use the note of saffron? It must be so expensive and difficult to extract.. Anyway I am going to keep it:-)

This is a really nice warm and spicy fragrances. It’s well blended and quite sweet, but also has a nice savory touch to it. Yes it reminded me a little bit of maison oud bouquet but it is in no way a clone or dupe.... This is a perfect example of a designer fragrance that is trying to be more interesting and different, but without being “niche”. The rose & saffron combo is a trend that is seen in more and more designer fragrances nowadays. They didn’t added any oud because it would be less mainstream imo, however I do feel like more designers are going to play with oud and this Rose & saffron combo is their steppingstone.. This fragrance is really enjoyable and last for quite some time. It’s a fragrance for someone who wants to try something different than the fruity berry, musky and sticky sweet scents.

This is a deep and sensuous perfume. Smelling from the bottle, it's a delicious caramelly oriental amber that makes an almost chocolate vibe. There is strong oud in the opening and it's not my favourite part but then it blends beautifully with the rose and saffron. I am not a fan of rose, but I do really enjoy this. This is a gourmand take on the typical rose-oud combo. I go nose-blind to this perfume when I wear it, but I can smell it on clothes the next day. My friend from Dubai said this reminds her of home. It's a safer oud option than the Twilight Shimmer from this range, which was all burnt tires to me (I blind bought both and returned the TS).

Starlight Shimmer reminds me a lot of Oud Bouquet. Especially in the opening but it's a little sweeter, and way less powerful. Oud Bouquet is so strong, you only need one spray. So aim it perfectly! You only get one chance! Or better yet, spray the air and walk into it. But Starlight Shimmer, I spray it 3 on the neck, once on each wrist, and it's not choking the people around me. After a few hours, it gets less intense, a little more sweet, floral and slightly less oudy. I love it whereas I only like Oud Bouquet. It's close enough though for me to call it a dupe. Sorry to all the Oud Bouquet fans and youtubers out there.

Perfect scent pairing for you if you love confectionery, deep, rosey, beginner oud scents. I saw some references below to Valentino Donna noir absolu and it made me curious to compare the two in my collection. Valentino is much more dominant, less sweet, more leather for sure. If they’re cousins, they only see each other on the holidays. The scent itself for me, 10 out of 10 for this scent category. It’s stunning. What’s especially surprising about this perfume is the trail. Supermarkets, gas stations, Starbucks. People grabbing at me like zombies trying to get a slice. It’s that alluring...

This perfume smells and has the quality of a niche fragrance. It’s not cheap, but not niche prices, I picked up the the 3.4 oz bottle for around 116.00 including taxes. It only has three notes, Amber, saffron, and rose. The initial spray is sweet like natural honeysuckle and it dries down to a semisweet woody rose. I really enjoy this fragrance, I also gifted the 3.4 oz bottle to my bestie for her birthday and she loves it as well. Scent 8.5 Bottle 9 Longevity 8 Projection 8 Overall 8.5

If you haven't smelled niche ouds and oriental roses this will probably impress you, it's a pretty good introduction to oriental rose, not too barny, a little woody, saffron adds an oriental layer but not bitter. I am impressed that in this category such a scent was made. A touch synthetic but gives the oriental rose balsamic vibe for sure. And it probably won't leave a mile long scent wave after you like most oriental rose balsamic so a touch safer way to try the genre.

First of all, this is NOT similar to Shaghaf Oud. I have and used that one many times. This is a “nice”fragrance (aka not horrible), however, it has a “man cologne” vibe to it which is very strong especially in the opening. My husband thought I bought him a perfume upon spraying it for the first time. And a few hours later my child asked me if I used “daddy’s perfume”?! :)) Not for me, although it might suit other people. Glad I only bought a 30 ML bottle.

Beautiful fragrance! Smells a bit niche IMO. It's dark, woody rose with sweet and creamy amber. Some bitterness from the saffron. Unisex leaning feminine if you ask me. The drydown is really nice, with creamy amber and sweet rose. I keep smelling my wrists. Sadly performance is not that good. It lasts 5-6 hours but with very soft sillage.

Tested side by side with Mancera Roses Vanille. They smell very alike - extremely similar. I think Starlight Shimmer is a tad stronger than the Mancera- which is saying a lot! I have a full 100ml bottle of Starlight Shimmer up for swap if this scent profile interests you :)

One of my personal favorites. It is definitely an amber forward fragrance so if you don’t care for that note, this wouldn’t be the fragrance for you. It has fantastic lasting power and sillage. I always feel sexy when I wear this fragrance.

Spicy-sweet turkish rose, easy to approach. I find this kind of a formula increasingly common. I enjoy it, but there's no need to hunt down a bottle in panic.

My nose finds this to be very similar to Montale's Arabians Tonka.
