Blue Ridge

Fantastic mass-appealing fragrance. Had a travel size a while back and loved it. Took a while to actually buy a full bottle, but I recently popped into a Perfume Palace where a whole bunch of Michael Malul fragrances were set out as testers. They had Blue Ridge for $95, considerably less than the full retail price, and they also had a "buy one get one half off" deal. So I grabbed this "Joie de Vie Blush" for my fiancée. Effectively it was $75, which I think is a good value for this. Anyways, it's a blue fragrance. Fresh, and very long lasting with the freshness. Super appealing and likable. A bit of juiciness mixed in with the freshness. It gets compared to YSL Y, and Ashton of Gents Scents was open with saying it was similar to Y. And it's clear from his videos that Y EDP is one of Ashton's personal favorites. So it shouldn't be a surprise that he drew inspiration from tat. But I think it has enough of its own identity to not just be a Y EDP clone. Anyone coming down on Ashton for not being creative... come on. He polled his audience for what they wanted him to make next, they said a blue fragrance. If you don't want a blue fragrance, if you wear fragrances for reasons other than compliments, then get something else. Couple of comments about the bottle. The atomizer is really nice, gives a steady pressurized spray. It uses a lot of juice in a full spray though, so there's no real need to use more than 2 or 3 sprays. Also, someone commented that the cap is really tight and threatens to pull off the atomizer when taking it off, and that's also the case with my bottle. It does seem that this fragrance has been renamed "South Slope" on Michael Malul's website. Maybe there was some trademark issue with the name "Blue Ridge". In any case, it was still being sold as "Blue Ridge" at Perfume Palace.

OK, so I have had this on my list of wants for a while, but wanted to smell it first - no blind buy. I happened to be at a Perfumania while traveling on business, so I finally could smell Blue Ridge. I was very impressed and purchased it. I wore it the rest of the trip and received a couple of compliments. When I got home and sprayed it on, my wife immediately complimented the smell. It's fresh, soft, and consistent - a great Spring/Summer scent. It's not even close to being a clone of YSL's Y EDT because of the Aldehydes that Y has. It has similarities to all blue fragrances, but it isn't as offensive to my nose as Y EDT is. I don't like YSL Y EDT, and I like Blue Ridge. Two updates. This gets tons of compliments, and the cap is too tight. As I pull the cap off it pulls the atomizer up out of the bottle, almost off... One of these times, I'm gonna pull it completely out. I told Michael Malul support about this issue - they agreed it was a problem... and then, that's it. Another UPDATE: This is great cologne. I think it does smell similar to Y EDP, but not EDT. I wear this one a lot. It has great longevity 8-10 hours easy. It's a compliment monster, and great for Spring.

The opening on this is amazing. There is something in the opening that becomes very faint through the dry down, and it's the one thing I wish persisted in the entire life of the frag. The remainder of this is also very nice. I see what people are saying about Y EDP, but I don't think it's as close as others say. Given what my last statement was, I would probably go with YSL Y EDP over this, simply because you can find it at discounters cheaper, the longevity of Y EDP is beastly compared to this, and they are close enough that I don't think you'd reach for this over Y EDP because of the performance. Don't get me wrong, I really love this scent, but I got the 15ml tester when they went on sale, and I have YSL Y EDP, and I'd reach for Y every time. I actually prefer YSL Y Le Parfum over them all, but I'm a little older, and Y EDP is a little bit of a younger mans frag.

Smells like Y on the opening but thats it to me. More patchouli heavy on the dry down. Just alright of a scent. Doesn't wow me at all. Performance seems bad. I've used it multiple times and even with spraying heavy (10 sprays) I got maybe 4 hrs. And I'm talking about 4 hours and it becomes hardly noticeable on clothes. Pretty much completely gone on skin. Not sure on sillage but I feel like I don't get much of a scent bubble at all with it. I pretty much have to directly get a whiff on skin. So I'll classify it as "intimate." Don't bother purchasing this one at any price imo. It's way overpriced for a full bottle. The other 2 Gent Scents signatures are better.

So this to me smells like, wait for it...... a designer Aventus cologne, but with a sweeter smoother opening, man i love this stuff, finished a 15 ml, and I never do that thanks to my huge collection, seriously I have a problem and the credit card bills to prove it lol . But anyhow this is my favorite dumb reach compliments , not always in words bit people will smile at you when you're wearing this, it's that kind of scent it reminds me a bit of ysl y eau fraiche, but less screechy, so if you like that it's a great buy, look for it on ebay you should be able to find it for 80 to 90 bucks I find retail on it a bit outrageous.

I don't think it's all that similar to Y EDP. I enjoy this scent a lot. It has a fresher opening on my skin. It also doesn't have all of the aldehydes of some blue fragrances. I never will understand people. They ask Ash to make a blue fragrance, then complain when it has some similarities to other blue fragrances. At least it doesn't have ginger mixing with the citrus and it's not an ambroxan bomb. I enjoy this fragrance year round and especially when it's hot. Well done, Ash! Don't let the haters get you down.

I just picked me up a bottle of this after going through a 10ml decant. I have to say, this stuff is pretty awesome 😍 it does not smell like y edp to me at all, way less aldehydeds! Its fresh, a little powdery, citrus, very very nice. Something you can wear all year around and be happy with it. It's more spring/fall but I'll be wearing it 365 for sure. If you like y frags, ferragamo aqua blue, that ball park scent then you'll LOVE this!! Amazing scent. Good job Gent Scents 👏

I've changed my mind on this, it's way better than YSL Y for summer use and the opening is literally mouthwatering. If it gets down to the $70 mark I would jump and buy it right away Also for those saying it's identical to YSL Y EDP, it's not that similar to that one, I have both it's much more similar to YSL Y EDT by far.

This is great! And has become one of my wifes favorites out of my whole collection. She can't stop smelling me when i wear it. To me I dont see what others say about the similarity to Y EDP or Fakhar Black. Maybe Y EDT but that might even still be a stretch. This is a great fresh scent that still has some weight to it!

@nexufrag. Thank you!!! It smells nothing like YSL Y EDP and it's extreme ginger smell with all those aldehydes. For me Blue Ridge is a way better Fragrance. This is just my opinion people so don't go having a brain aneurysm. I think the YSL Y line is extremely over rated. Eau fraiche and parfum are the best IMO

Blue Ridge is still being produced. They simply changed the name for copyright reasons. The new name in South Slope. This is a great blue fragrance. Not an ambroxan bomb.

This smells very good. Smells just like YSL Y EDP.

Bottle is nice enough, but the atomizer is fantastic, maybe the best I've ever owned. Didn't know it was a Gent Scents crossover until I got it home, so that wasn't a factor on my buying it. I enjoy it quite a bit, gets a few compliments. My coworker said I "smell expensive, not a compliment" which was somewhat baffling. Seems to last alright on my skin, when I go to punch out for the day its a some-what faint skin scent so that's about 9 hours. Starts out with this lovely bright fruity punch, a "warm-cold" smell I hadn't experienced before. Then it settles into a clean floral smell with an amber, earthy undertone. Very fresh and clean, not offensive or "niche." The wife likes it quite a lot so it's one of my go to "day out" scents. Might be a smidge too cold for a true winter, but with the mild winter we had where I am this could be a year round frag. Especially true when the sun is shining.

It's a really nice scent! There is an undeniable resemblance to Y here. What I find odd is that the note breakdowns for the two are completely different yet the end products are almost the same. I would have to say that the main difference to me is that Y has a little more of a powdery smell and Blue Ridge is slightly sweeter. Currently, at full retail prices, a bottle of YSL Y EDP is $139, and a bottle of Blue Ridge is $140. Blue Ridge would have to outperform YSL Y in every category for me to consider buying a full bottle of this at its current price. I got a 15ml travel spray just to try it, and I'm really not disappointed in how it smells and performs. I love it actually—I just wish it were a different scent DNA.

It's pleasant. Extremely similarly to Y, which he has expressed his love for on a million YouTube videos. Kinda surprised he went with this for his "blue" frag, when it's obviously a knock off. Kinda disappointed, to be honest. Not only because the Y line is about my least favorite blue fragrance line due to what I perceive as youthful sweetness, but also because he was okay with releasing a clone.

I really don’t get how people think this smells like y EDP, maybe edt although I don’t have that one to compare side by side but y EDP is not as bright as blue ridge. Overpriced? Probably, but not a bad fragrance. Smells good, just such an overdone type of scent there is sim many more options for cheaper. Terra nova is a different story, still need to put my nose on Jet Black

Great scent profile, very refreshing. Lasts a long time, but sits a little close to my skin. Doesn’t get as much attention/compliments as some of the other fragrances in this line. Not quite as versatile imo as some of the other designer blue fragrances out there, but is reasonably priced in comparison.

The opening is identical to YSL Y but the drydown is different and its not as long lasting. I understand that Gents Scents acknowledged that Blue Ridge falls into the same line as YSL in terms of the scent profile but the two smelling so similar is disappointing.

I’m disappointed because this is super redundant if you own Y EDP. The dry down especially smells like Y EDP. Terra Nova is where it’s at though.
