Miracle of Roses

Well funnily enough, I'm on the coattails of Christi, yet again and in fact her's was one of the few reviews I actually allowed myself to read before trying these. I felt it was informative and entertaining but somehow 'spoiler free' at the same time which is a great quality to have. I've got to say I concur completely with the consensus that Miracle of roses is a startlingly unique interpretation of a 'rose based' (or at least has it in the title) perfume and without over egging it too much, restoring faith in the creativity of Indy perfumers, not that it was in danger. What I mean is... this release is made more Poignant because rose is such a difficult material to put your own mark upon.I think Miguel Matos has managed that. I really can't pick out a Ta'if or a Moroccan or a damask rose in here, it's not one to be fathomed easily, just sit back and enjoy. In fact the top notes in this fragrance give it a warm, oriental feel with a gourmand sense that we will come to in a moment. The rose really is nestled between a milky, nutmeg and cinnamon spiced smell and a kind of incense like accord, maybe olibanum? but that's not even giving the foodie associations, more a sense of sexy, warmth. There's a bready note and I do mean bready, not brioche or baked goods sweet, I'm talking more savoury and wheaty, but it's never to the extent of Serge Luten's Jeux de peau a fragrance I've always wanted to like, but just could never wear because frankly...it's horrible. Another thing is that this doesn't feel too opulent or regal to me, or even perfumey with more of a muted feel. (in a really good way) This is fantastic and proabably my pick of the bunch. I haven't worn it properly but I suspect it will be a rewarding experience and Miguel should be proud and really be praised for a fine piece of work in Miracle of Roses. I think I want a bottle?

I have the pleasure to being following Miguel creations since he started working on his line, this one is my favorite, a beautiful spicy honey rose in a bed of milky sandalwood with a beautiful cinnamon touch, it's not a typical jammy or sweet rose, very well rounded, and i'm very picky regarding rose. Once I have a bottle of it I will make a review. Very unique spicy rose, extremely potent juice and long lasting, the last time i've try it I got 12h+

I've tried all of Miguel's perfumes with his discovery kit, and I love love love Miracle of Roses. I love a good rose perfume and this one is very close to my heart! the opening is so delicious but what I like most is the drydown. It's a creamy talcum scent and it's very comforting.

Hat tip to Miguel Matos who is one of the only European perfumers to make it EASY for folks in the US to try his stuff (ordered samples from his website, easy peasy.) I was super excited by this one it wasn't what I expected. Mostly feel like I've smelled it before. Don't get me wrong, that isn't a BAD thing at ALL. But I don't actually find it groundbreaking. On me this is Rose and Cinnamon. Really well done on both but so similar to Les Absolus d'Orient Santal Royal by Guerlain that right from the beginning I felt like I'd smelled it before (I own Santal Royal). It isn't terribly powerful, but in line with most modern perfumery. (Two sprays lasted a couple hours and I could smell me, but no one else could. After a few hours I couldn't smell it anymore except for the occasional waft.) But it is really nicely blended and very elegant. If you like spice, and you like roses this is a winner. If you own Santal Royal, you don't need this.

It is compared to AXE, KKW Fragrances??? People, are you kidding? Miracle of roses is thick gourmand with heavy cinnamon layer, sharp unique and very bold.

Inspired by the “miracle of the roses” story of Saint Elizabeth of Portugal (which also supposedly happened with Saint Elizabeth of Hungary, and also the daughter of a Muslim King, Casilda of Toledo). Legend has it these saints were stealing bread to feed the hungry and when caught, the bread miraculously turned into roses so the good saints would not be punished. Miracle of Roses, by Miguel Matos, is an unusual fragrance and the real miracle is that it miraculously doesn’t smell like any other rose fragrance I have ever tried. And considering I probably have a couple hundred rose dominant fragrances in my collection and have smelled many more, that’s quite a miracle indeed. Even when rose fragrances do not smell just alike, they tend to remind me of another in some way. Miracle of Roses does not, and I find that quite rare and unusual. It’s rather difficult to describe, as it’s not (to my nose) a realistic rose scent, it’s more abstract, almost like an alien rose that I have never smelled before. It’s rose, but sort of in the same way as Nahema, it is “not rose yet clearly rose”. Miracle of Roses doesn’t smell like Nahema at all, but it has that unusual rose/not rose quality about it. Among the rose/not rose is a bread note which is quite unusual in that it’s not sweet like baked goods, it’s more like white bread with a cinnamon dusting, not an actual pastry, even with the additional notes of milk and honey. I find it more of a scent of comfort, maybe a sweetened beverage, rather than food. There is also a dustiness to it that counters the gourmand qualities and it creates a bit of odd nostalgia. There is even a slight medicinal vibe which may be where I’m getting a slight cooling effect. So, despite the very gourmand sounding notes, it does not come across as an overly gourmand fragrance to me. There is this somewhat coldish note that I mentioned above that I can’t quite figure out, almost like a draft, it gives a slight cooling effect to the scent, especially initially. But the fragrance doesn’t feel cold at all, yet it doesn’t feel warm either. I can’t really describe it in those terms because there seems to be both a cooling and warming effect countering each other, creating a rather surreal feeling about it. Again, sort of alien. Miracle of Roses is the sort of fragrance that could be interpreted a hundred different ways by each person who smells it. It’s not easily defined. I find myself sort of fascinated by it and strangely comforted by it. Maybe it’s the kindness in the legend it was inspired by influencing me, but it smells of a sort of comforting goodness. Or like the scent you would imagine while looking at an oil painting of the kind Saint with her bread and roses and the gathered fabric of her dress, noticing a blanket of dust on the frame, and feeling a cool draft that passes through the weathered hall where it hangs. (I purchased my sample from Miguel’s website as part of a discovery set.)

Opening: Have you ever opened up a woman's purse and peeked inside? That's the image that immediately came to mind. I grimaced because I was expecting something else, but felt a comforting warm vibe take over my soul. I was immediately at ease, and my focus seemed to have clarity. 20 minutes in: This still doesn't remind me of a fragrance. This is a story. A story like Victor Wong tells with his creations. It's an emotion. I love these types of fragrances because it makes me dream. This fragrance makes me dream. It's softly spicy, but nothing really peeks it's head out. Obviously this is a rose based fragrance, but it surely isn't dominant, and that's a great thing. This fragrance will settle you down if you're anxious. 30 minutes in: The rose is taking over, claiming this fragrance. Hey, it's me ROSE, this is a rose based fragrance. 2 hours in: Somber Rose. Yes, that would be a way to describe this fragrance, but for myself the somber rose gives me clarity, and says to me, we both can't be depressed, so it instantly makes me feel more outgoing. This fragrance embraces me, and says to me, "that was my intention". HUGS 6 hours in: The rose is dominant, while projection is mild at this point, although this fragrance was never a monster projector. 12 hours in: It's not a skin scent yet. It's still projecting 2 inches off my skin, and is still going strong. Conclusion, if you enjoy rose fragrances, this one is sure to please. Mr. Miami Cuddles

“What drives me insane is the twofold nature of this nymphet, of every nymphet perhaps, this mixture in my Lolita of tender, dreamy childishness and a kind of eerie vulgarity.” (Lolita (1962), Stanley Kubrick) Tested Miracle of Roses and the scenes from Stanley Kubrick’s “Lolita” started running in my head. “Lolita, that's right, Lolita. Diminutive of Dolores, "The Tears and the Roses." There are so many rose fragrances, it seems it’s impossible to create something unique, but here comes Miguel Matos and his Miracle of Roses. This fragrance is so innocent, naive, tender and dreamy on one side, and mysterious, sexy and even somewhat erotic on the other, I couldn’t help but call it a Lolita fragrance. Those two sides of a fragrance complement each other without dominating one over another, it’s blended so well. The rose here is spicy, creamy, even powdery and dusty at some point. The staying power is very good, projection is great. Unisex? Definitely. Full bottle worthy? Oh, yes! A must test for someone in search of a unique rose fragrance? Yes, yes, yes!

This fragrance is very interesting. It's definitely rose-centric. I would say if you're not a fan of rose then you probably will not like this. The rose in this, in my opinion is a pink, slightly watery rose, that is quite green in the opening and mid. It's a light rose, not a dark, jammy rose. After the initial opening I get bread. It smells like the fresh, green rose, and then if you were to stick your nose into a bag of bread. In the mid the honey comes in adding just a bit of sweetness. The dry down is fresh, pink rose, bread, and a bit of honey. I don't get any warm spicy notes or any woods. As far as performance, it's fantastic. This lasts over 10 hours with decent projection.

This is beautiful ... deep and somber. The intermingling of the rose, bread and spices work so well creating a distinctive take on rose I have not encountered before. It does not get sweet nor enter into the gourmand territory even with these food-y notes. The hypnotic smokiness emerge as the minutes and hours pass, comforting and haunting at the same time. I sprayed it before bedtime and the melancholic rose scent has transformed into a delicate powdery cloud still present the morning after. What a beauty!

I enjoy this and I'm not usually a fan of roses. The milk and cinnamon create a fantasy scent of Indian milk tea with rosewater in the opening stages. Very attractive idea for a perfume. This is a cuddly, tasteful rose that made me smile...a rare reaction for me. The drydown is more powdery and spare like a classic Goutal floral. The later drydown also reminds me a bit of Claus Porto Favorito Red Poppy soap although that could just be the power of suggestion! I like it!
