Tabacco Smeraldo

I rarely post reviews but didn't want to gatekeeper this masterpiece. Tobacco Smeraldo was a bit of a surprise from Miguel Matos. I've appreciated the technical mastery of his work ever since he debuted Jungle Jezebel (2018) and this carries many of his signature stylizings (like overdosing ingredients), but unlike many of his other interpretive fragrances that play with contrasts, this one hones his expertise in creating photorealistic accords to singularly feature a realistic tobacco scent (what he calls "green tobacco leaves"), which makes Tobacco Smeraldo so delightfully wearable. It is basically a "soliflore" type of fragrance and is easily, the best tobacco-themed scent I have smelled in my 20+ years of collecting fragrance. As in Matos' other creations, this is a powerful fragrance so I would caution wearers to spray judiciously (1-2 sprays is enough for all day longevity; sillage-wise, in the first 4+ hours, it leaves a trail that literally fills up the house). The only shame is that this line is hard to find in the U.S.(which is why it's not hyped up... yet), so if you find yourself in Spain, definitely go check it out.

Absolutely fantastic. Working from a hand decant I received with a recent purchase. I am glad that I selected this. I already have two other Miguel Matos creations, Akelarre and Babieca. This may be my third. Really great take on the tobacco arena. Has a rubbery nuance at first. Not in a bad way. And that doesn't last long. At least for me. But the tobacco is unmistakable. The addition of violet leaves, oakmoss, and other ingredients give this an ethereal feel. Green and rich. Really well done. I didn't get an eternal longevity experience. Almost 8 hours, which is certainly acceptable. A nice scent bubble through the first half. As of this review, 26 people on Fragrantica list that they have this. If any of you 26 do not want it, send it my way. It's almost Christmas. You can gift early. 😁. Looking forward to having this in my collection one day. I think it is worthy of being a signature. I need a few more wears and my decant won't allow that. Tar and Euphoric Patchouly also look interesting from his namesake brand. Cheers! Happy hunting.

When you get to know Miguel's work and fragrance personality you start seeing hints here and there of his influences and good taste. This fragrance opens with a blast of greens and vegetable like nuances, almost play-doh like, moist earthy green, very pungent... after the inicial blast this chameleon starts to change colors, pepper, vanilla and tobacco start to rave for a couple hours until the ultimate surprise kicks in, I was in awe when I realized what it was, his rendition of Bandit, mossy floral green leather. If you know it you'll know it's there. You sneaky bastard! 😎

As a tobacco note and cigar smell fan I am in a hopeless hunt for a real cigar-tobacco forward scent. I have and tried many of the most recommended ones. Tabacco Smeraldo is one of if not the most realistic tobacco focused fragrance period. And it is really tobacco focused, not the oversweetened honey-vanilla-amber-clove sickening mix like almost all the so called tobacco fragrances. Here you get pure fresh green tobacco in a photorealostic way. It is a masterpiece. I wish to have it a bit more “brown” and cigar-like but still love it as is.

Up until I bought Tobacco Smeraldo there was an inverse correlation between the number of bottles in my collection and how often any particular one got worn. This is a clear outlier and gets worn way more than any other. I love it and now all I can think about is tobacco perfumes (and whisky).

This is beautiful!! A moist tobacco, mixing with tropical waters and vanilla; the spices bloom beautifully on skin, black pepper and light violet leaves entangle. This is only my first impression and I can tell there are a lot of nuances to unfurl with each wearing.

Very photorealistic dark tobacco smell. The juice is a bold dark green colour and the smell definitely resonates with that look. The projection on this is fairly hefty so over-spraying this will become over-powering. The word dank kept popping into my head when considering how this smelt but not in an unpleasant way if that makes sense. I also get a deep yerba matte type vibe from it, very green and almost vegetal. Worth trying if the aforementioned qualities are your cup of tea

I'll have to agree with one of the comments below. If you know how violet leaf absolute smells like (which is an earthy, semi-sweet, wet soil/ozonic, kinda bready even, leafyness - not to be confused with "Violet Flower" , which is a powdery, cosmetic aroma), then Tobacco Smeraldo is 90% just that in my opinion. Pair that with a hint of Bran Absolute/Vanilla and there you have it. It's not a *bad* scent overall, but it does have a "wet cabbage and vanilla bread" feel to it. Dries down somewhat rubbery and plasticky, lasted for about 4-5 hours on my skin.

Very realistic tobacco smell. First sprays were like opening a humidor. The pure tobacco smell almost overpowered all other aspects. It was pleasant until it wasn’t. After about an hour it began making me nauseas. After four hours I washed my neck and my stomach almost immediately settled. It’s a lovely smell but there is something almost ammonia-like that I could not handle continuously.

violet leaf extract in overdose ...moist, swampy, rotten vegetation...it's exactly what you obtain when you put too much violet leaf in your composition...for me it's a total fail. Anyway if you like this swampy smell of violet leaf , a bottle of extract is around 20€ and with one or two drops you obtain exactly this perfume.

One of the weirdest fragrances I've ever smelled in my life. So green, so strong, so muddy/moist and so weirdly familiar. I do appreciate the creativity, I just don't see myself wearing this on my body. However I think I wouldn't mind a house fragrance with this.

Miguel is a creative genius with this perfume. I'm going to buy a bottle this year. I have been using a sample I received and I am just blown away. A stunning tobacco! 🍃🌬💨 Tom Ford wishes it smelled like this.
