Unfold

Halfway from "Douleur" to "Tyrannosaurus Rex." Darker, less exuberant (or: less hysterical) than the former, but not quite as dark, oversized and powerful as the latter. Common to all is a metallic core and a subdued animalic quality. "Douleur" comes with a bouquet of bright roses and pink cotton candy, "T-Rex" with lots of juniper tar and a veritable pool of blood, while "Unfold" in a sexy latex dress first hides itself behind a fir tree but then decides to enter an incense-filled church. I like all three: innovative fragrance art at its best!

Unfold is such a wonderful play of contrasts! For those of you who have oil-painted: This is turpentine made hot as hell! So if that turns you on at all, Unfold may just bring you at least the same amount of joy it's brought me. The main theme lasting throughout is tension between fir resin with a metallic-cassis aftertaste and latex-clad florals - I get mainly violet and lavender. Chiaroscuro sums up the development nicely, I think. In the beginning, the aldehydes don't make the composition brighter so much as louder to me. It feels as though they inflate the molecules of the main theme into gigantic globules that my nose can inspect up close one by one. In that sense, they are illuminated at this point. There's just so many, though. While masterfully done, this part can get too loud for me quickly, if I'm not in the mood for it. Like the hype before a drop lasting too long when I'm all out of excitement becoming a bit annoying. I find Unfold most enjoyable towards the second drydown, when beast mode deactivates and one can admire the main theme in all its glory from afar. Shortly after that, the first woody, incensy, and finally tonka-esque shadows start to creep in, making me feel like a sexy creature of the night. Sleek, graceful and stealthy if I wish to be.

It's smells like when I crush a stink bug. I would never spray this on myself.
