Petrichor Plains

The scent of rain on parched earth after a protracted dry spell. There is a road running across the damp ground. It is wet too. Adjacent to the road is a wooded area. As the sun comes out, the petrichor fades and the warm woods begin to scent the area. The above experience is recreated with considerable realism in Petrichor Plains from Australian niche house Mihan Aromatics. The scent progression is: a damp, earthy petrichor opening which you will either love or hate (I love it); next comes an accord that I perceive as things warming as the sun comes out (cardamom, bergamot and some other warm, spicy notes along with a smooth carrot seed note feature here); and finally, warm woods. Longevity is about 4-6 hours and projection is moderate. This scent is well composed and blended. I find the scent best suited for fall and early winter, but I have also worn it in spring. The scent is unisex. The presentation is good. The bottles have a look that to me suggest laboratory glassware with nice heft, good atomizers and a weighty black magnetic cap. This fragrance is somewhat similar to Le Labo's Baie 19, but this scent is less green than the Le Labo and substitutes fairly ordinary woody notes for Baie 19's lovely patchouli base note. My Most Meaningful Relationships by indie house Filigree and Shadow is another nice scent for petrichor lovers, but it is much less complex than this fragrance. I enjoy the earthy damp smell of this fragrance, it is not at all dank or tinged with mold. I wear this scent solely for my own enjoyment as this note blend is unlikely to ever gain positive reactions from others. To be clear, this fragrance initially smells familiar in an "I've smelled this before but I can't quite put my finger on what it is" sort of way before progressing to pleasantly warm woodiness. The only way to tell if you will like Petrichor Plains is to sample it, I'm afraid. Something this conceptual and atypical needs to be experienced before a bottle commitment is safely made. There are samples of this fragrance available for minimal cost from a handful of retailers with web stores or from the manufacturer. If the idea of wearing the unique smell of "after the rain" appeals to you, check out this scent. Recommended for those in search of well crafted, highly unusual yet wearable fragrances.

This is one of the best petrichor fragrances I have smelled and it is an 80% dupe for the now discontinued Narcisco Rodiruguez for Him. The 20% difference is that it's a much lighter, happier and younger cousin. Once I finish my bottle of Narciso I won't hesitate to replace it with this fragrance. I...kind of see the similarity to Santal 33, but they are worlds away from each other. I do not like Santal 33. I do think the minerally freshness of petrichor plays in the pickle field for some noses which triggers the comparisons but that's where the comparison ends. But Petrichor Plains is on another level. And if you are looking for a Petrichor scent there is no way I would direct you to Santal 33. A masterpiece.

A very unique stunning fragrance. I bought this as a blind buy and was pleasantly surprised. It’s nothing I’ve ever smelt before yet somehow it smells so nostalgic and familiar. It’s unusual but in a good way. Both myself and husband think it’s stunning so it’s very much so unisex. I’m not great at describing scents but I don’t smell any pickle like others have mentioned. It does remind me of rain, but rain in a sense of fragrance not wet dirt. Like walking through a field in England, slightly drizzling you get the smell of wet leaves and rain and nearby flowers. It’s fresh but also cosy and warm at the same time. Mihan Aromatics definitely achieved what they set out to by evoking feelings with this fragrance.

Wouldn't say this is very petrichor reminiscent, but very lovely. On the drydown it does go a liiiittle soapy for me, but still has a hint of dustiness if that makes any sense. The type of scent that makes me want to go into tall grass in a thick fog. Doesn't SMELL like thick fog, but the scent would be great for the occasion. The feeling it gives is very melanholic and otherwordly for me.

This is a gorgeous, woodsy scent to me. A lighter, slightly more feminine version of Mikado Bark. My girlfriend wears this and I wear Mikado Bark. I struggle with a lot of perfumes, but this doesn't make me ill at all. And bonus for being an Australian company, so it's actually obtainable, and very nicely priced.

On my skin the spray smells sort of like cucumber water but the dry down smells like wood dust to me, with maybe like a bit of a light ozone smell? but you have to be really sniffing to get that. I don't get any asphalt or rain from this one on my skin, However on fabric it smells completely different I get a soapy-ozone smell with a hint of dirt? Its much closer to petrichor on my clothes then on my skin. It doesn't seem to last very long on skin or fabric but I feel like for this kind of scent, petrichor or rain, I'm not sure I expect it to have much staying power. I like the dust smell tho, I reminds me of taking a wood-shop class as a small kid. While I don't see myself having more than a sample this was really neat to smell. :)

A very decent petrichor scent. A linear collection of ozonic, earth, wood and rain notes - fresh and earthy. It actually smells like a realistic forest just after rainfall with the wet dirt and airy, woody elements. This fragrance is a must have for nature lovers, it's everything you want in a petrichor scent olfactory-wise but is still quite wearable. I always test these sorts of scents on my non-fraghead pals to get a truly non-biased opinion and was told "you smell like a woody forest (in a good way!)". Longevity unfortunately isn't amazing, it lasted about 2-3 hours on me, but if forest and rain scents are your thing it's definitely worth a try.

It is very watery and aetheral scent for me. The opening punches you with earthy note, petrichor particularly. As it settles, woody notes get more prominent while maintaining the patchouli/petrichor fresheness. However after drydown, I get just some fresh vegetal-like remnants. On my friend's skin it was just cucumber water. Not a blind-buy, you should get a sample and test it for a few days. On clothes the woody and earthy notes linger. I will not repurchase but I am happy to have it in my collection, still one of the best petrichor perfumes.

This was one of my first forays into niche perfumery and I just revisited my old sample. And what a joy! I get dewy florals for the first few hours before they fade away into the dirt they grew from. The perfume never loses its cool, wet edge. I'll just have to be careful because I'm worried the damp will start to read as musty on my clothes. It's weird the notes are so different to what's on the official site (from my memory it's more similar to Heretic's Nosferatu). Very glad I don't get pickles lol!

Anotha one from the #gifthaul. Pretty nice! Not photorealistic rain scent in the slightest, and a bit too soapy smelling for what I was hoping but very pleasant! Sadly not picking up on any asphalt notes which is devastating because fresh wet asphalt after a thunderstorm is indeed my absolute favorite scent in the entire world...sigh, one day I will find one in a bottle

Quite nice. It really recreates the damp mossy earth and asphalt at first, though on dry-down there's a little spiciness and complexity. Not as "rotting vegetation" as some petrichor / rain scents can get. Goes on light, stays light. I'd say it's unisex but like most petrichor scents I'm not even sure it's for humans. Might be better as a candle?

I think this one is very nice. I pick up lot of iris, dry sandalwood, earthy and solar notes with wet petrichor. Longevity is a few hours, sillage is small. This one is a perfect late spring/ summer fragrance for my taste.

I mean, they nailed the brief. This smells exactly like rain on dirt. It’s cool and novel but do I want to actually smell like that? Not sure.

"Petrichor" by Demeter from an earlier release was much more convincing — an earthy, wet, out-of-town version. Yes, water and air accents are present here, but mineral and metallic compounds dominate. The ground, or realistic wet-rain asphalt notes aren’t traceable here. Most likely a raw granite crumb in the center of any European city, with a note of discharged ozone before a thunderstorm. The composition seems flat and synthetic. It’s a pity, because on the blotter, Mihan is "sitting" with an enviable resilience, which isn’t the case with Demeter.

Does what it says on the box. It’s a photorealistic representation of rain on humic soil with a hot wet asphalt lean. Definitely a green fragrance in my view. Sure the aquatic ozonic opening dominates early, but it ends up a wet green woody scent. Cedar maybe? It’s interesting and wearable, but I just don’t enjoy green fragrances and that’s what stands out for me. Maybe it’s just because I’m sensitive to that accord. Amazing art, replicating an emotive natural accord, but just not me. Brilliant for what it is though.

The asphalt smell is very apparent at first, with the ozonic / rainy smell being more prominent in the drydown. This fragrance has pretty weak longevity and silage but does smell really nice. I wouldn't wear this in summer, but it's perfect for a rainy day in spring, autumn, or winter. Definitely one of the best 'wet concrete' scents out there and worth buying.

it's a little bath and body works-ish for me. its not objectively bad by any means, it just doesn't have a whole lot going on. i was really excited for the asphalt and earthy notes, but i don't pick up on either at all. it just reads as your average clean "rain" scent with a little floral sweetness in the background.

Personally I only smell very faint coconut with this; it gives me no actual rain scent. Unfortunately, another underwhelming offering from Mihan that, to me, smells like generic, albeit nice, car air freshener.

This basically smells like black licorice, minerals and woods. Another way to describe it would be asphalt in the hot sun after it has rained. The asphalt note is very prominent. There is no sweetness to this perfume. It also smells very similar to Le Labo's Santal 33. While I like that one, I'm not a fan of this one. It's just a very strange scent and not mass appealing. Someone else mentioned the word industrial and I have to agree. It's like being in a machine shop with the smell of metals and a bit of machine oil mixed in. Unisex leaning masculine. Smell: 4 out of 10 Longevity: 7 out of 10 For reference, I'm female.

I’m lol’ing at all the ridiculous reviews stating ‘pickles’ ‘coconut’ etc. This is a nice dry mineral/ozonic orris frag with citrus and herbal top notes. If you’re an orris/iris fan who enjoys the drier side of iterations such as Iris Cendre then you’ll likely enjoy this scent. It’s got zero coconut or pickles but I can see some resemblance to Santal 33, as much as I hate to admit it. If you want an affordable Santal 33 dupe that’s reinvented as an orris forward frag then this is definitely worth a sniff. For what it’s worth, I’m an iris fiend and this is the only one out of the sample pack that I full bottled because I just can’t go past an iris fragrance, I just can’t help myself.

Some additional notes from the box: Buddahwood, Nagarmotha, Cardamom, Amyris, Bergamot, Carrot Seed, Rosemary. Petrichor Plains does a good job of approximating that hazy fresh-rain-on-warm-asphalt smell, with some herbal green and prominent woody touches. It doesn't scream "petrichor" but it does a great job suggesting it. It's very well blended, and takes me back to living in the city in a tropical country. Green, woody, wet, and slightly industrial. Nagarmotha/cypriol does a lot of the heavy lifting to achieve this effect. Projection isn't nothing to write home about but still quite good, and longevity is fine, in the 5-6 hour range on me.

"notes: rain, iris, violet, rosemary, cardamom, amyris and Australian buddhawood" per Marie Maire first impressions: a slab of hot concrete, in my head the polished kind, likely a patio, surrounded by flowers. mostly iris, the whole plant. summer rain on greens and floral woods and road. pretty gentle, not even really petrichor to me. the smell of rain hitting the surface of the earth, but not so much the ozone. in the first ~10 minutes there is some sort of pickle reminiscent note, but it goes away

I love it, but for me it is too reminiscent of Le Labo’s Ambrette 9 (which I have). In fact, on me it is almost entirely Ambrette with orris coming out after about 20 minutes. I’m a huge fan of petrichor fragrances, but I have others that are much more earthy and wet to me. I’m disappointed I’m not picking up on the petrichor mentioned in the other reviews.

Notes listed on Mihan's own site differs a lot from the notes listed here. Iris, amyris, violet for instance should be added here on Fragrantica for this scent. Because that's basically all I'm picking up. Faint, airy, floral. I do not get any petrichor or soaked soil. Definitely no wet asphalt. A real bummer since I'm not a fan of these flower scents.

This smells like a wet rainy day coming back from a forrest full of pine trees, coming home to your log cabin and taking off your wet coat, hanging it on the coat hanger. The smell is fresh rain mixed with green. Gotten a lot of compliments from its unique smell, living in a colder city where this fragrance fits the mood.

63rd Slightly aquatic(-), touch of sweetness, citrus, herbal, earthy patchouli(-), and a peppery aroma mingle. Clean, cool, fresh, but no green note... It’s better than I thought it would be, but still not my thing. 7/10

Unbelievable petrichor scent. My first true petrichor that made me fall in love with this scent profile. More of a wet rain asphalt petrichor than a woodsy one for those asking. Stunning.

rainwater rapidly evaporating from the asphalt after a hot summer day’s quick downpour. soft and mild skin scent. mineral-y, comforting, and unusual.

This is a sandalwood fragrance more than anything. Nothing really special or conceptual about it at all.

Smells like a soggy santal 33 still nice tho
