Mila Schön (Original)

Mila Schön, the first fragrance launched by the Italian brand in 1981 has nothing to do with the pyramid listed here. The leaflet that came with the perfume and ancillary body products describes it as ‘a chypre fragrance, with notes of bergamot, mimosa, carnation, cloves, rose, jasmine...resting on a base of oakmoss, civet, castoreum, ambergris and vetiver’. The notes listed in Fragrantica are about subsequent reformulations that have nothing to do with the original beauty. (Thank you Elena for correcting the notes!!!) 240ml Eau de Parfum reviewed, from the early 80’s. Mila opens like many late 70’s to early 80’s chypres, but mostly like the forgotten ones; Missoni, Vu, J’ai Osé...herbal and bitter, fruity but sparkling, elegant! The intelectual ones like I call them. The ones that time (injustily) forgot, became too scarce or too expensive to pursue and eventually became a memory. There’s a wonderful bitter quality that marries with a honeyed note and immediately brings to mind Ted Lapidu’s Vu. The fruity bergamot is more astringent here and embraces a revitalizing effect. Uplifting. Galbanum, which I’m sure is here as well, brings it closer to a green fragrance at first, but as soon as the flowers begin to appear things change over. A muted rose, a soft jasmine and a more prominent carnation and pollen rich cassis or mimosa. The honeyed feel of the mimosa becomes more prominent now, and it reminds me slightly of Vu’s intensely urinous honey note, although here is far more subdued and smooth. Mila is one of the fragrances that becomes stronger as it dries down. The oakmoss and vetiver enter the scene, alongside the patchouli, and the scent becomes more woody than chypre; the earthy notes are strong but the oakmoss feels like a recurring player rather than the star. The animalic trifecta of civet-castoreum-ambergris radiates heavily if I smell my skin, but lingers lightly in the air around me if I smell the sillage. It varies from heavily dirty to heavily musky, depending on the temperature and the way I smell my skin. But it never leaves, and while never entering dangerous territory like Furyo, Magie Noire or La Nuit for example, it is never unnoticeable. The general feel is of a slightly melancholic scent. It inevitably feels 70’s, which for me is a plus and it has all the elements I enjoy in perfume. Add to that a green/chypre character with intense animal notes and I’m in heaven! I can’t help but feel it branches from the Aromatics Elixir family and just like the fragrances mentioned above it has a sophisticated feel, intelectual capacity and gorgeous glimpses to bygone eras that once upon a time were the IT moment. It’s a perfume for a few, who can appreciate it just like it takes a developed palate to devour all the nuances of a fine wine. Easily found, not terribly expensive and very much worth the time and effort! Moderate to heavy sillage with outstanding longevity. Edit to add; a year and a half of use and I’m amazed at how it blooms on skin. No matter if it’s hot or cold, Mila shines. Winter, summer...the deep deep drydown shows an animalic warmth that just pulsates and vibrates for hours on end. I love and sense it all day long, but come the end of the day, I catch whiffs of something gorgeous, erotic, sensual...a beast gleaming from my pores. Very few perfumes do this and Mila is one of them. Couldn’t be happier to have more than 300ml in total, I didn’t expect this outcome and I’m more than surprised. What a shame this gem doesn’t get the praise it deserves, it’s undoubtedly a classic! Side note: if Kouros ever had a version ‘pour femme’, this is it! What a find this was! A well-rounded fragrance: warm, smooth and woody. Sexy and spicy, this is a classic amber composition. Strong and persistent, but held close to the skin. A golden, lush, richly aromatic mix of very high quality ingredients. Fruits are dry, rather than sweet, florals are soft, and creamy sweet. A dry peach, with a sweet, not sour or bitter, citrus. The rose is lovely, persistent, a deep red rose. Could easily vault to the top of my favorites. It really does not remind me of specific fragrances, but the quality and clarity of vision is on par with the great classics. Spicy, boozy and warm, this is very French to my nose, but evokes the Italian countryside. Amber and patchouli evolve over a long deep drydown. The base notes are complex, combining a gentle musk with soft woods and a light patchouli. I am editing now that I am wearing it again in the fall. Great for the holidays.

(Review of the EdT.) Really a surprise, being impossible to find. It could be described as a paradigmatic vintage fragrance overloaded with flowers and musk. The musk is really "dirty", but it blends in an exceptionally good manner with the sweet, juicy notes of flowers, rendering it really luxurious and glamorous. It's a dark and exotic scent, with very strong longevity and projection, but pleasant. Exquisitely crafted, it smells rich and "natural", without plastic, synthetic vibes. If you like old style scent, definitely a must have. (10/10)

AMAZING CREATION! I have recieved a huge 120ml bottle of EDP of this and it is still boxed and unopened with thread over it ́s lid, but i could smell it anyway through the lid and it is amazing oriental!!! No words to describe it, just such an explosion of spices with peach, carnation and wood in one of the most beautiful combinations i have ever smelled so far! Ladies, if you love oriental and can find it, then DO get it, it is really an unique fragrance! You won ́t be duplicated by someone, you ́ll be outstanding!

Clovey, rosy, carnation-y, dark, dark, dark. Wonderful stuff. I just dragged out my nearly 40-year old bottle and it still stands up and/or is still wearable. Lots of patchouli and amber. Adult. Old School. Classic but absolutely not main stream. What so many niche fragrances of the last 3+ years are trying to be, and not quite getting there.

I think this is the single most fem fatale perfume ever created. The notes are complex fruity Chypre. Ambergris, Civit and Opoponax are the complex sultry base. Anise, clove, violet, vetiver, cassia, clary sage, bergamot, neroli, coriander, Jasmine, oak moss and olibanum all contribute to the complexity and depth of this fragrance. These ingredients are all natural and why the fragrance changes throughout the day. I have loved this perfume since it’s launch in 1980 and nothing compares. The perfumer who created this work of art is a genius! I could walk around naked before leaving the house without this scent. I sleep in it, wear it all day, it is s part of my soul and identity. This perfume is a classic for the idealist, confident feminine and strong woman. I have had men follow me specifically to ask what I am wearing. I am an Autumn in the color wheel so it blends perfectly with my body chemistry. This perfume is intoxicating for the wearer and everyone around them! Mila Schon was a visionary to pit her name on this bottle. Thank God it is still made in Italy where the ingredients are natural and not in the USA where the ingredients would have to be synthetic.

This is a beautiful blend (I have an EDT; it is as persistent and lingering as "normal modern" perfumes ;-) Mila Schön opens on me fruity, peachy and musky, but citruses fade soon. After a while peach becomes smooth and pleasantly rounded, and carnation and rose appear. At the second phase the scent starts to bear some resemblance to Fleurs de Rocaille. I checked, and they share many notes indeed (notice, that I own the cologne version of FDR, so I can't say anything about other strengths). The base is musky (for a reason or other musk almost always tends to build up on my skin), a bit woody and, to my nose, styraxy, too. Some sweet and soft flowers remain as does a slightest hint of peach (it never leaves). Warm whiffs of this graceful perfume can be detected hours and hours later...

Review of the eau de parfum. A good constructed fragrance. Nothing is too much. I think is an oriental but not in an overtly way. Sweet but not too sweet. Suited also for very young people, the one who likes clearly feminine scents. Suited for night out but also for formal/work/daytime. It is very classy, elegant, chic in a classic way and for this reason this perfume can't be described as very unique, because it is constructed in a classical way. Nothing here is out its place. You can smell is made of high quality ingredients. What is unique about this perfume is that it doesn't contain colourants.( so mentioned on its box)

This is perhaps one of the most uniquely beautiful fruity chypres I have ever had the good fortune to experience no less possess! I recently pulled it out of the dark cabinet and fell in love all over again. All the preceding reviews are correct in their appraisal of this fragrance’s gorgeous symphony of notes, the masterful evolution of those very same notes and the excellence in quality. Mila Schon, despite its age, could easily compete with a current Amouage or Xerjoff and win hands down! Sadly, it is quite hard to find and if you do, you may have to sell a bottle of Memo or two to procure it.

I received a sample of this years ago when this first came out. Back then, I only wore one perfume- opium. I was so pleasantly surprised that I liked this. It was especially cool because it is my name! I just got a huge bottle of the vintage, original perfume so now I can wear my namesake perfume whenever I like. Its complicated, classy, original, and beautiful-- like me!

I have to laugh at the comment, "Thank God it is still made in Italy where the ingredients are natural and not in the USA where the ingredients would have to be synthetic." IFRA reaches its filthy fingers all around the globe, honey. There's probably more American perfumers bucking the standards than anyone.

My favorite scent of all time. I still have a little powder left, but it's not quite the same as perfume. I have been looking for it since about 1990. I found some on ebay once but lost to a last minute bidder. Alas! I wish it would be produced again.
