Brera

Brera is one of those scents I wouldnt normally reach for, as rose isnt typically my favorite thing. However, I have to say, I truly appreciate the artistic vision and the story behind it. its very well executed. The scent truly evokes what I imagine an old Renaissance painting would smell like, with the scent of aged paint, dust and history. It feels somehow very dramatic, And for that reason i would put it in the gothic category, making it an excellent choice for this time of year as we approach Halloween!

A round and sweet rose-patchouli with saffron. A familiar theme, but so rich and beautifully executed. Rose and jasmine merge to create a spicy, voluminous, and rose-forward floral accord, supported from above by saffron and from below by vanilla/labdanum. Good sillage and longevity.

Reminds me of MFK Oud Satin Mood but more refined and less loud. So far the entire range is very elegant.

A spicy rose patchouli. Brera is inspired by the Pinacoteca di Brera, the Brera Art Gallery in Milan. It is one of Milan’s most important public painting galleries, with a large collection of Italian paintings spanning from 4000 BCE to the 20th century. Among its collection, Francesco Hayez’s work Il Bacio, or The Kiss, moved Alessandro Brun, the creative director of Milano Fragranze. He therefore took Brera as the theme and invited perfumer Violaine Collas to create this fragrance. From the first spray, the most noticeable notes are saffron and chili pepper. It is a dry, slightly sharp kind of spice, with a faint leathery edge. After a while, the rose becomes more apparent. It is a rather heavy, dark rose, with a touch of green geranium. So this rose does not smell soft. It feels like a cool rose with stems and leaves attached. Once the patchouli comes through, the sharp spiciness from the opening is toned down a little, and the rose no longer feels as cold and rigid as before. Labdanum brings out a sticky resinous amber quality, with a slight leathery nuance. Brera is not very sweet. Although vanilla appears in the drydown, it mainly works to balance the composition and make the whole fragrance feel rounder. It is better suited to autumn and winter, or to cool evenings. In cold air, the rose becomes clearer, while the resin and patchouli gain more layers. In very hot weather, the saffron, chili pepper, labdanum, and patchouli may feel a little stuffy. Both projection and longevity are very good.

Second sampling from Milano Fragranze, Brera, a resinous rose/saffron blend, a touch spicy without the spices overwhelming the rose. It’s not too sharp or heady, and not overwhelmingly floral (despite the inclusion of jasmine and geranium on top of the rose), a balanced blend that features the smoky labdanum, also, with pepper and vanilla as well. The vanilla is revealed gradually over the first couple hours, producing a sweeter dry down to the spicier, more resinous opening, but the overall scent profile stays largely the same throughout the wearing (so far). I like it—not as impression-making as Basilica but still a nice perfume that I’d recommend that everyone try. Brera, like the rest of the line, is priced at $135 for 100ml in EDP concentration, sold at Perfumology, Luckyscent, and some other boutiques—very reasonable pricing, and it like Basilica, it performs very well. Quite the treat and great value. 7 out of 10

Have a sample of this and the first note I notice is an elegant sophisticated rose. But it’s spicy and feels quite heady to me. I wonder if the resinous quality described by another reviewer is the patchouli. I think there is a similar quality I’ve felt with other perfumes, that strong sometime Over pungent quality I smell is the patchouli. I don’t like that smell I don’t think. I think it needs time to settle as this sneak to me although the rose is there smells quite masculine so no surprise that it’s unisex. My partner thought it was a feminine fragrance. I think it does settle and although refined and defiantly elegant it does have a strong pungent masculine aroma to it. I feel like this fragrance is perfect for any graceful artistic sophisticated outing, ballet or an art gallery as the fragrance so aptly is made after from Milan.

This one is interesting. It opens with a very dry, dusty rose but it is also sweet. The difficulty for me is that for most of the wearing, it smells VERY synthetic.....like the most artificial rose. The late dry down is really nice and long lasting on skin. For now, I probably won't wear it alone but I've layered it with LV Ombre Nomade and it sweetens it up nicely. I suggest sampling first.

She's giving Portrait of a Lady light. If you adore PoaL but its too intense, too intimidating or too special-occasion, sample Brera for a more regular option. I got a discovery set for this line and I'm so impressed. It's so well done, even Basilica just won an award. Bought my discovery set from Ministry of Scent (ships US) but they also sell individual spray samples for just $5 each.

You've probably smelt this "saffron"(/"leather") accord before; I know I have. It does feel like quite a nice scent but it's modern rather than classic. Despite the Brera area of Milan being well known for nightlife, this is a fragrance inspired by the art gallery which is also there. You could still wear this on a night out though.

It’s nice but the chilli is tingling my nose. After I read in the comments what’s the story behind it I started to like it. I think it depicted the feeling really well. It’s not for everyone, but it’s lovely and unique. But definitely not a safe blind buy safe and not your typical rose scent.

I’m not the biggest fan of rose, but this is nice :) a spicy, gothic rose. I second the review that states it smells like there’s an oud note somewhere.

This reminds me of another fragrance but I can’t think what although this is definitely the only fragrance I’ve tried/owned with a chilli pepper note! It’s not overpowering but it can make the nose tickle a little. This is an oudy fresh rose with the little zap making more of a cold weather fragrance than summer. I’ve a little discovery set to check out from this house and I lol forward to working my way through th lem all a finding a gem or two in there.

Brera smells like oud Silk mood extrait by MFK. there is 80% similarities between them. I wanted to buy MFK Oud Silk Mood so bad. Now I realized they’re very similar, and now I don’t know what to do because I also have Brera. MFK OSM is a little bit more airy und smoother. The camomille and Papyrus makes the difference but BRERA is very very similar. The middle notes of both are dancing togheter. I am waiting for the drydown. Will update

This is a very gothic, dark, earthy, & spicy red rose. Smells like there’s Oud in there but I guess it’s the patchouli. Not sweet at all. The geranium gives it a bit of a vintage rose flair. I dig it, but it’s def not for the faint of heart and you HAVE to like rose patchouli scents. Super super heavy on the rose.

Old school kind of rose-scent. Combined with patchouly, the problem is that the rose are very prominent so I have a hard time figuring out the other notes. But a hint of saffron hides in there aswell. Okey so I was able to find some bergamot after I read the notes (cheating).

It's a big stretch of the imagination to comply to the Milano narrative explored here. Other than that, it's a nice and lasting saffron-rose scent in the oud direction, no surprises.

This reminds me of either a rose oud scent or rose patchouli scent. Not unique in my opinion but smells really nice. Borderline unisex and worth sampling 👍🏽
