#3 Green, Green, Green and... Green

"... Yes, they'll all come to meet me Arms reaching, smiling sweetly It's good to touch the green, green grass of home." This is a green that doesn't rely on the sappy, stemmy galbanum or sweet, herbaceous spicy basil. This is green like verbena, lemon-like, tart, yet with its own winsome, profuse verdancy. There are facets that to my nose also evoke that of makrut lime leaves, crushed laurel, and the smell of milkweed exudate. One of my favorite resins also appears here, mastic (or lentisque), bright terpenes and a subtle tint of camphor, moderately coniferous, a soothing balsam. Mastic also happens to be an impressive fixative for green and citrus notes. It feels like juicy foliage and sunlight slowly evaporating the dew, distant citrus groves, and memories of being playful and carefree. Grown ups need sensations like this, and the magic of scent to draw out these feelings cannot be denied. Herbal, creamy, more floral in its dry down, feeling like throwing rocks on a cool stream, GreenX4 makes me want to frolic and tra-la-la away from the drudgery and dream of eternal weekends, enjoying freshly picked fruit in the summertime, feeling sorbet melt in my mouth, and getting lost in a book on a porch swing. Its deep dry down is a somewhat berry-like musk reminiscent of ambrette. This is sublime stuff.

The transitional period where late summer meets early fall is my favourite season, and it always has me reaching for green scents. So it comes as no surprise that I really fell for this quadruple Green after sampling it this early September: it more than fulfills the promise of its enticing name. It's such a well-made, comfortable green scent - it really is all green, but there's nothing sharp about it. At first there's some almost citrusy brightness from the verbena, and then it soon settles down slightly deeper, more "forest green". It's quite aromatic, yes, but in a light, natural way - perfectly unisex. I see this is a controversial comparison, since it's been downvoted, but it did instantly remind me of Un Jardin En Mediterranée, or the best parts of it. That's another late summer staple for me, and I still love it too, but I think this one is a little more sophisticated and maybe smoother. Most importantly: I instantly felt at home wearing this, returned to it several times over the last few days, and couldn't stop sniffing my wrist any of those times. Of course that's very personal, and probably not useful to anyone else - but it's a sure sign that out of all the lovely scents I've been testing lately, this one deserves a permanent place in my wardrobe.

How strong and beautiful they are, Miller and Bertaux. Especially, especially for the top notes. Very green-verbena, indeed. But not grassy green: sweet/acidic green, then rain, water green, reeds. Also green fig fig milk, which doesn't appear in the notes (and which I find very well here, in the first few minutes, unlike Isabelle). And lemon/sweet, yes: yuzu-orange-bitter. And yes, zen, bamboo. And I, too, agree with Phényl: similar to Jardin en Méditerranée. But even softer, more beautiful, more mysterious, more poetic. The drying sometimes pleases me a little less, loses a little of its relief, doesn't de-sugar (again, a very 2005-2009 trend), but nothing dramatic enough to mar the whole picture. In any case, I like the first 15 minutes so much that it remains at the top of my pile of favorites in this register. These are panoramic-postcard scents, right up there, and there isn't a single one (so far) that doesn't move me.

This scent was my first niche purchase when I began my perfume hobby. I was enchanted by the fresh, vegetal greenness of it and the refreshing hint of lemon. It didn't smell like any of the mainstream green scents that I knew and loved, as good as those were. I felt like this was the very epitome of childhood summers. Playing hide and seek and hiding behind a big, leafy bush in the backyard, while your next door neighbor is mowing his grass. Someone else nearby has a sprinkler going, and you can hear bikes and roller skates from out on the street. "Olley olley oxen free!" Everyone knows it's time to go home when the street lights come on. Your skin has the warm, slightly sweaty note that's reflected in the coriander/cardamom note in this delightful scent, too. Miller et Bertaux No. 3 Green x4 dries down to a very pleasant skin scent - one of my top summer scents every year.

I remember the first time my husband smelled the dry down of Green x3. He asked, what is that powdery incense you are wearing? He moved in closer and said....yes, it’s you. Wearing this scent is magical; you and the people in your orbit will be transported into an ethereal land of tart limes, brisk air and fresh leaves. The dry down is indeed more powdery, but it never strays from feet firmly planted in the family citrus orchard. And though most of the time I think silly names are just that, the more I wear #3 Green, Green, Green and... Green, this strange beauty with the funny name makes complete sense. I can’t imagine my collection without it.

First spray and opening remind me of Thai green curry which happens to be one of my favorite Thai dishes. Very curious how this dries down. add: I like it I like it a lot! very fresh green...love the bay leaves add: at the moment it's spring time here and scents of herbs, weeds and early flowers are filling the air...grass is mowed frequently and the occasional showers give it and extra fresh woody/mossy/earthy undertone green green green and green mixes perfect with this time of year !! the green curry feel I first had is long gone since it is so much more this scent makes me happy

As a lover of green fragrance, this is beautiful and hits the brief. A delicious fresh herbal citrus hit from lemon verbena. The aromatics from bay and coriander. The mastic which intrigued me the most and I love this note. A beautiful warm weather fragrance which would have been a definite purchase had it lasted! With significant overspraying, even on clothes, it just disappears. At the right price I would still purchase and be happy to re-spritz every hour.

This is such a lovely, surprisingly complex, green fragrance. All the notes work beautifully together: the zesty, citrusy lemon verbena; the earthy, herbal bay leaf, coriander and vetiver; and the creamy jasmine. The picture I get is wandering through a herb garden and arriving at a jasmine-fringed freshwater creek in springtime. Definitely unisex. The sillage is pretty good but I wish the longevity was a bit better!

The prince of green Fragrances Ever youthful, sparkling, humble, but energetic. A timeless creation, a work of art & love. A spontaneous bursts of life on a sun-struck patch in a deep and dark forest. A hint of a small roses linger just behind the veil. Another bow to Mr. Miller and Mr. Bertaux Bravo bravo 👏

tart and fresh, like entering a cool hotel room in a luxury hotel on a hot summer evening, perfectly unisex in my opinion, reminds me of "under the lemon tree", lovely, limey, addicting, no curry smell for me

This one might be a year round fragrance for me. It reminds me of my first grade art teacher's classroom.

On my skin this fragrance opens like 4711 cologne - bright, a little rumbustious, but pleasingly quirky and nostalgia-inducing. After about fifteen minutes it settles into a verbena-dominated scent, as Doc Elly has noted, though I also detect a bouquet of various grassy smells - a little fresh-cut-grass, and a bit of that slightly pungent, almost leather-like smell of dried-out summer grass. In the drydown I get subtle sweet citrus, like mandarin, and subtle musk, but the verbena persists here as well. Longevity is good; sillage is fairly modest, as you'd maybe expect from a very un-sweet niche frag. I'm new to perfume but I suspect this could be a fun layering fragrance, with something figgy or floral from, say, Jo Malone or Diptyque. Worn alone, I think it would be suited to a very hot, sunny vacation (more "lavender fields and fresh anchovies" than "cocktails with umbrellas in"), or a crisp Autumn walk in an orchard or by the sea.

I had saved Green x 3 until the last of my M&B samples because I’m not crazy about many “green” fragrances. However, I find this one enjoyable and quite wearable. In the beginning it’s dominated by the listed lemon verbena, with a twist of lime, a fairly sharp, even prickly scent. Thankfully, it’s a pleasantly aromatic green, not a “fresh-cut grass” green, and a soft, truly verbena-like scent, not the harsh citronella that often tries to pass for “lemon verbena”. After a few hours it dries down into a wonderful ambrette-like musk. I’ve tried all of the Miller & Bertaux fragrances, and can say with confidence that I like every one of them. Green x 3 is one that I’ll reach for from time to time when I’m looking for a well-behaved green fragrance.

A friend was wearing this and it smelled amazing: fresh and clean and not like any perfume I could pin down. I am a big fan of iris perfumes and it reminded me of the fresh, cool kind, like Hiris. She told me where she'd got it and so I went to try it on myself. At first it is overwhelmingly green and acerbic, but it soon settles down into the lovely scent I remembered. The sillage and longevity are incredible – I got wafts of it all night. Even today, a day later, the cardigan I was wearing has this wonderful scent. But I just don't feel it's 'me'. When I'm wearing it, I feel like I'm in disguise.

There’s no tea notes listed in this but that’s what I get. It reminds me very strongly of Tommy Girl, the early aughts version, which of course I haven’t smelled for a long time. But it has that same easy freshness, and appealing sort of green tea drench of bright sparkly tea and citrus. It’s completely unisex, there’s no harshness or overly sweet notes, anyone could wear this and although it suits hot weather best I think it could be worn at any time of year.

Definitely is similar to Un Jardin En Mediterranee, but a bit shaper and fresher. It's honestly so beautiful, green and fresh, perfect for a hot summer day. I am so curious to try more from this house because of how lovely this fragrance is.

This is just symbolic for the brand: I really like it at the first puff, then it dries down to a mosquito repeller in 15 minutes. My own girlfriend doesn't suspect I'm wearing perfume. And still, I like the head of this perfume very much, even if I'm not into green fragrances. - Notice that this is very green and very fresh, but your body spray will overpower it in maybe 30 minutes, if not sooner. It's practically impossible to wear and still sits in the line of the hundred$. Considering this, I find it so much overpriced.

This is sour, straight, bitter, simple, refreshing. It reminds me of Pélargonium but less complex, sparkling, enjoyable, elegant, long-lasting, .. .in short ... I prefer Pélargonium even if being more recent it is therefore less original. When compared, this has an added sweet touch in the finish. For my nose this is his backbone. Stackable. This, Pélargonium, Verveine, Geranium odorata, etc... Are crowded with the same troop.

Smells interesting, but in a strange way, not in a way I enjoyed. I agree with other comments saying that it smells like Thai green curry (the most prominent notes to me were lemongrass, bay leaf and coriander), and the association made it feel heavier and not as fresh as I hoped it would be. I love green curry, but I don't particularly want to smell like it.

I really wanted to like this one, but reality is sometimes stranger than fiction. It opens up with celery, immediately followed by a bitter lemon rind, which then transforms into a bitter green tea and some type of (again, bitter) herbal liqueur. In my mind, this combines into a horrible bitter soup (thanks to the celery that I can't un-smell).

Vibrant fizzy verbena mastic petitgrain sweet abstract woody This is the definition of a simple pleasure fragrance for me, something I wear when I don’t want too much going on but still want something to enjoy subtly. Nonetheless it’s completely outstanding. The bright bergamot meets verbena accord of Eau de Guerlain joins more hefty slightly musty resonant green aromatics, mastic and laurel, as in the opening of CdG Laurel, but pumped up to the brim with a strongly sweetened fizzy lemonade. The result feels more like something discovered serendipitously on the perfumer‘s organ rather than properly designed, like someone asked „what if?“ and violently mixed the green section together, but it ended up working perfectly. It’s somewhere between the natural smell of a crisp lemon tree branch and a fancy 8$ hipster lemonade, right between blisteringly green citric and addictively sweet. If you can tolerate strong green notes, this is a must try!

'Green, green, green...' is a lovely perfume, and I think if you are interested in green scents, you have to try this. I was a bit afraid of those savoury thai curry-comparisons mentioned previously, and I didn't want to believe this was true. Although, this was exactly my impression, and please forgive me for forwarding this association! But I think it needs to be addressed. However, as someone also mentioned – this is so much more. It's complex. The reviews below are really excellent, so I don't really have anything unique to add really, except I would like to put emphasis on the savoury notion here. This is also my impression with several of the Miller et Bertaux perfumes. Many of them are quite savoury. So please be aware of this. I think it's a divider – some may like it a lot, to some it may appeal less.

Really excellent. Absolutely lives up to it's name. There used to be something called 4711 Ice that my aunt kept in the refrigerator and it was such a joy to put on when it was very hot. Really strong and camphoraceous or menthol-y. Kind of like perfume candy. This has that invigorating thing and then a lot more: the best parts of Un Jardin en Mediterranee especially. But nothing like most "ice" type scents: none of the welding arc horror of Mugler. Natural iciness. And a whole beautiful floral/herbal/citrus other thing happening simultaneously. Fig isn't an ingredient listed here but it's definitely got that hyper-green/sweet Philosykos quality...just plain fun, really. I don't know what else to say.

Green is the kind of fragrance where it's all I can think about for the first ten minutes I'm wearing it. The opening is this wild blast of shimmering, sherbet-like fizzy greenness. It's kind of bizarre. It settles down after a few minutes, becoming a more recognisable verbena scent, and I lose interest a bit. Then again, that shocking fizz is a little exhausting, and when the scent comes into focus it's almost a relief, like one of those seeing-eye pictures. I genuinely don't know if I love it, but it for sure demands my attention. I've tried a few Miller et Bertaux scents now and they always leave me a little cold, but I feel a weird sense of admiration and bewilderment for this one.

Wow love this one. Very mediteranne by hermes, but more green and less subtle sweet (dabbed on some of that too to compare.) You would have had me fooled if you said there was some fig or fig leaf in here for sure. Also a little bit like tea, like a green lemony tea. Also reminds me of Fig tea by Roger Gallet. But that is super fleeting, this one (and hermes) are a bit longer lasting. Loving it, very summer scent i could get into. Citrussy, subtly fig sweet, and green all the way, with the slightest of herbal and resinous nuances that don't dominate it's citrussy greenness. Love it.

Gorgeous green fresh soil & botanical top notes - think “Lentisque” by Phaedon Then after a minute it gets floral & fruity with some soft musk & woods layered in The fruitiness accord takes center stage & lingers the longest but it’s a little too “fruit punch” to my nose I was really hoping to get a little more of the bitter & realistic green leafy notes out of this one Overall not bad (I wish a genius chemist would figure out how to get those notes to persist longer &/or perfumers could figure out a method to increase their tenacity)

I needed an alternative to Un Jardin en Mediteranee that didn’t resemble a body spray. Think I’ve found it. Fresh spicy goodness for summertime! I’ve been subscribing to a monthly 7.5 ml vial of this on Parfumado, no complaints! Another very affordable dupe of this is Autograph Celestial Fig by Marks and Spencer’s which is £34.95 for a 100 ml bottle.

Not everyone will become a botanist in their lifetime but at least you could smell like one. The value of this fragrance depends on the weather condition and not necessarily the season. In cloying humid weather, this parfum is a beast. Green 3x smells very natural. On a side note: This is one of the best fragrances to layer something with.

I'm not sure what this is supposed to smell like. The moment I spray this all I get is that green curry smell that you get when you eat Thai, that coconut herbal curry. I don't get any freshness or citrus vibes, just very herbal sweet coconut curry🤯

Smells almost exactly like Angostura orange bitters and I love those. The name is accurate, it's a mostly green pallette, but it has a sour orange candy side and a bit of spices in the mix
