Such an interesting scent. It starts very rich and strong. It's hard to explain but I get an oak barrel aged bourbon, but without full fermented alcohol effect. I also get the green lime and ginger combined with the liquor. It sounds like disharmony, but it's the exact opposite. I've never smelled kumbaro, but it's very nice. I don't have anything on my pallet to compare it with, but if you put a gun to my head, I'd say a sweet green cardmom, but less spicy. I'd almost consider it as a gourmand of sorts. Miller et Bertaux is such a great find - this is another unusual but approachable fragrance that feels confident and self-assured. I wore this recently for an interview and it was the perfect choice. The harmonious amber and green tones immediately reminded me of Costume National Scent - also similar with its minimalist name and cool-girl attitude. I blind-swapped for this and was worried - a review compared it to 1725 (a sweet fragrance). Then I read a positive review, and when I looked into the reviewer’s fragrance preferences it was all sweet. Uh-oh, not my vibe. I didn’t recognize all the notes - what is kumbaru? Luckily it was love at first spray. A website told me kumbaru grows in the rainforests of central and South America, has a wet grass smell and is used as a spice in cooking. I also had minimal experience with elemi, which fragrantica says is resinous/fresh/citrus/dill/fennel/peppery/grassy. Yeah I get all that. And yay it’s not sweet!! Overall it’s just my kind of fragrance - smart, graceful, grounding. Part emotional escape, part intellectual exercise.

Borderline Great. I'm sitting here writing and sniffing at the same time. I'm a few hours into this fragrance and it feels like it could be in blind buy territory. But here lies the problem... I tried this in 75 degree weather and it evaporated within 2 hours. Not good. This is a double agent for sure. Hour 1 and hour 2 are two totally different scents: Im not an elemi expert(im just as clueless as you are) but in the opening, you will get a heavy dosage of musk and elemi. It's very aromatic in the beginning(confirming that elemi ingredient). In the base, you're served with another left field ingredient called kumbaru. This makes "in" smell foodie in the dry down stages. The base has a syrupiness reminiscent to Bond no 9's New Harlem. Despite my knock against the longevity, I still think this is one both men and women should definitely try. If you're in the mood to receive compliments, then look no further.

This brand is so underrated. I have a big pile of samples from a fragrance meet and this one was in there. I put it on and didn't think much at first...but within minutes, the scent unfolds into something magical. I had to buy a full bottle as soon as possible. Now I have that full bottle and am wearing it for the first time today. Its just so wonderful. A very brief opening note of bergamot and then it almost all disappears. As it warms with your skin the soft amber and musk and woods start to bloom. It's delicate and unique. The cedar is soft and warm, not harsh like some woody notes can be. This one definitely has to be worn to feel the magic. I don't think it can be described accurately. And it would be worthless tested on paper. Get your nose on this, you wont regret it!

Poor man's 1725. It's literally the same thing, only more muted, a bit dirtier and a lots less interesting. Hard pass.

"Plain Amber" ** Two stars because of the amber note, that I generally love. Three stars lacking because in that territory this perfume will remain anonymous. In a colder day, its sweeter note of the dried fruit was more perceptible; in a warmer day, this becomes just boring. (sample was received from an online shop joining an ordered parcel)
