Cassis en Feuille

Absolutely the smell of a dewy walk trampling over someone's fruit and vegetable patch - and I mean that in a GOOD way. (Obviously you should never, ever trample on someone else's kitchen garden.) This is good. Really really good. Full of intensely natural smells of earth and sap and tart, peppery, nose-tingling crushed vegetation. More of a smell than a scent, much less a perfume. It doesn't feel 'designed' or artificial-lab-grown anything. To my nose, this is much more green than sweet - which is welcome. The cassis is rough and funky, like the smell of a berry fresh off the bush in your hand, not a stewed-red-fruit vibe at all. I was appalled to realise (reading it on Fragrantica) that there's pear in there because the smell of ripe pear fruit makes me gag, but somehow in this lovely scent it's just a gentle, fresh note rounding out the rest, not a dominant presence. Sillage not huge, longevity fades out at 4-5h for me. But it's really worth reapplying. Just beautiful for a spring or summer day. Maybe an autumn day too.

A perfect scent for high summer. When nature is groaning with ripeness, but there are still leaves and greenery all around, just before the fall into autumn. This perfume smells like you are standing in a hot greenhouse surrounded by an abundance of blackcurrant and tomato plants. Its such a fabulous smell, both green and sharp and sensual and warm. They have balanced those two opposing smells so well, with the hint of rose and bergamot linking the two with their own opposing softness and sharpness. I adore this perfume. It encapsulates peak British summer for me.

I was very interested in In Love Again by YSL because of its uplifting tomato leaf note. I found a great deal for Cassis en Feuille, and it was a successful blind purchase. It opens with a bright and strong bergamot alongside the aromatic and vegetal tomato leaf note. This is is reminiscent of walking through a garden in summer, and picking up fresh tomatoes. The dry down is softer, slightly floral and powdery (to met at least). I will definitely wear this beauty in spring or summer.

The best way to describe this is in an interesting freshie with a twist. Where a lot of summer fragrances would kick off with citrus bombs this is very green. It’s what I imagine cassis leaves or ivy leaves smell like if they were put in a blender. Then it slowly transitions into a nice French expensive perfume smell which stays close to the skin. I get about 6-7 hours with the last 3 being skin scent, but I am very generous with my sprays.

I was looking for similar scents to L'Artisan Parfumeur vétiver écarlate, and this is a good competitor. Les zingy more floral. This is also more feminin and doesn't have the Vetiver but it 's pretty close with the tomato leaf. Juts like walking through a garden full of green plants and flowers. Very natural scent. I love the scent but sadly performance is poor and it's also expensive for this kind of performance.
