Le Petit Grain

I pictured this one exactly right, before I placed the order. It’s the true and authentic neroli and tagerane combo, nothing more and nothing less! Initial blast reminds me of Hermes eau du vert oranger concentrate a lot, one can clearly percieve the juicy and fresh citrus with all the natural bitter and texture, the bitter orange garden right after a rain, you pull off a shy tiny ‘grain’, wipe it and unpeel it, there! Freeze and repeat the move for dozens of times for hopefully a hour, till the lasting power gone and you have to snif closely to your arm. It’ s totally understandable and pretty impressive for a citrus centered colonge like‘ le petit grain’, to perform this well. Not mentioning I got a deal as 22 bucks per 50 ml bottle, it beats over Hermes on this, gonna enjoy my summer with thee green bittle orange around!

Le Petit Grain is an absolutely delightful rendition of a bitter orange tree with surrounding wildflowers and herbs. Eminently wearable (leans masculine) and satisfying all the way through its quiet drydown. LPG is quite top-heavy for an eau de parfum; it really performs more like a cologne absolue (as Atelier calls it). I think there is an unlisted dab of labdanum preventing the composition's patchouli oakmoss drydown from being harsh – Le Petit Grain is in fact a stealth chypre. So those looking for a citrus chypre will be pleased indeed.

I tried it a minute ago and as soon as I left the boutique a lady stopped me and asked me what I'm wearing, so there will be compliments. But green or citrus scents normally work with my skin chemistry. This fragrance has a gorgeous opening. Very fresh and playful. When it dried down I decided that this scent would be very interesting and better on a man, if not even sexy ;) Perhaps I'll update my review a bit later, because it's still changing.

This is another take on the classic Eau de Cologne arrangement (Neroli, Orange Blossom, Orange Leaves etc.), with bergamot to complete the sour/bitter feel of it. This is Lyn Harris' homage to the orange tree, from the flowers to the leaves to the earth downwards. I definitely like the top with the bitter green Orange-Citrus smell, and I think what makes this interesting is the use of Lavender and other very aromatic, very Mediterranean Herbs to accompany it. It's almost as if both fresh and dried cooking Herbs have been added here giving it a fresh, green and Herbal feel. I think this one is really nice. It's an Eau de Parfum, but I sometimes wished it would last a little longer on my skin. l really do like this house and I certainly admire and appreciate Lyn Harris' passion for using natural ingredients... that's something which makes her perfumes smell undeniably natural and well made!

I tried this again after two year I wrote the review below. Strangely, on a very hot and sunny day (I got another sample from the MH shop as part of a purchase). Loved the citrus and tarragon combo, as they produce an original cologne, not too citrusy, not too herbal. Good staying power. __________________________________________ It is warm and balmy, quite a gentle take on cologne. Starts with a complex cocktail of citrusy openings, which is then taken over by tarragon and lavender. Good sillage, staying power is reasonable and it doesn’t dry into a powdery, old fashioned cologne as it keeps a bit of freshness throughout. Quite an interesting proposition, although it took me a while to get it. And strangely enough, it had to try it on a sunny day to appreciate it fully.

"Le Petit Grain" is extremely easy to like neroli/citrus cologne type of scent. Opened very feminine - loads of sweet, sugared citruses with fresh petit grain. For me this actually smelled like sunshine, stayed very linear for few hours. For that time I felt that it was 100% feminine, but as this phase passed I was struck by aromatic notes, making this a bit darker, a bit more aromatic and a bit more bitter. "Le Petit Grain" is very easy to enjoy, the staying power is average - 5 hours with fairly noticeable sillage and few more close to skin. A good blind buy if the price is right.

I loved this on card, it's very dry and dense with a lovely citrus tang. On my skin however it went quite sweet and fruity. I still like it but would need to mix it with something more herbal.

Completely agree with Cereza, it’s difficult not to like this very natural-smelling cologne style fragrance. But it’s also difficult to justify its price tag IMO.

Being something of a Miller Harris nut I really wanted to like this, but in the end I had to wash it off. It's just too astringent! At first it was a sharp herbal - like lying in a field of long grass in the summer sun, but after a while it just became too linear for me. Perhaps the right sort of man could pull it off. Such a shame, the only MH I dislike.

Le Petit Grain is described as including the scent of all parts of an orange tree. It opens with a clean orange citrus scent as expected but then takes a pleasant turn more toward woody and earthy. The spiciness of the angelica and tarragon temper the orange and lemon. Bergamot with vetiver is one of my favorite combinations and this scent does the duo justice. I would recommend this, especially on cold winter days when you crave a little sunshine but want it grounded.

I knew this fragrance was not for me when someone asked if I had been decorating because there was a smell of gloss paint - I was wearing Le Petit Grain.

I was expecting the bright, sharp, green side of neroli from this perfume - well it was too sharp, green and bitter.
